[Interest] Potential Star Trek RP Discussion

I've been kicking about the idea of a Star Trek RP, but frankly am unsure on the precise details and premise for that RP, what people are interested in, so on and so forth. Overall, what I'd be looking for would be a moderately knowledgeable group of players who understand the basics of Star Trek, moderate level of quality (Not one sentence but not twelve paragraphs). It would be character based, with everyone on a set ship at a set location (ship class determined by vote), with myself probably be playing the role of First Officer to keep things somewhat in check insofar as not dying by stupid in the first page.

For anyone interested, please drop a post here on what precisely you want and what role you'd be thinking of playing.

Depending on the era, I'd probably go for an engineer or security/tactical character.

Round the time of the Earth-Romulan War is my preferred era, but don't mind doing later periods (particularly if we end up going for an Excelsior class).

I'd absolutely love to see this happen. Personally I'd want to do eng/tac/cmd on a soverign class but that's obviously kinda late for what you had in mind. Though I'm up for anything.

I'm certainly up for boldly going into the colorful world of the '60s. I'd likely go for either an engineering or sciences character, anything that isn't a golden-shirt.

Starfleet became too OP after the Dominion War and when Voyager came home. Ablative armor for probably all of their ships, weapons and defenses to hold back the Borg, Romulus getting nerfed. Doesn't sound like too good a setup for an RP if you've overcome most of the issues around you.

My #1 preference would be the TOS era, with the exploration focus, klingon conflict and tensions... there's a lot going on then, not to mention its my favorite show and I am very biased. The Earth-Romulan War period would also be very interesting.

IMHO any and all means of holding back the Borg short of their complete annihilation are temporary measures at best, but I can see your argument.

Honestly feel an exploration focus would be best, but not because it's interesting.

I'm just very pessimistic about the level of endurance many RPers on this site have, myself included, and an exploration focus would allow this RP to be fairly episodic, which means that a player could vanish for weeks at a time and it wouldn't be too big a deal.

Eh. Can't help but feel the Mirrorverse has been written into a corner, especially by DS9.

Yeah, and besides, it's just too edgy. Wayyy too edgy.

Every DS9 Mirror character just felt like "my whole family was put in an agonizer and/or blown up by the Klingons, allow me to furrow my brow as hard as I can while you feel pity for me", and I'm afraid that could sort of bring the whole story down. The Dominion War setting offers up better opportunities for richer character development, in my opinion.

Anyway, I've already started developing my character in my head, and as long as we take a ship I think I'll lay dibs on helmsman/FCO.

As an idea/note to the OP, it might be worth taking a page out of Starfleet Adventure's book and actually playing the Captain rather than the First Officer. So long as your character is more of a collaborative & deligating type its easy to focus on the Away Team or the efforts of the specialists (i.e. the PCs) and gives you a framework for an episodic game.

Anyway, I'm starting to think of an Anthropologist/Archeologist/Socialogist character. Someone who studies Alien cultures, habitats, and the history of the quadrant. Though I'm flexible and happy to slot into any particular need.

Thinking about doing a comms officer character, if possible. I want to know whether or not that would work, because if we're going for an episodic story, then I'm not sure if me taking that role would interfere with the format or any stories OP had in mind.

Not going to lie I'm actually kind of surprised by the poll but hey it works. For everyone who suggested Mirror Universe times while I do think it'd be neat to live in perpetual fear/concern/murderfest, either by your own crew, other crews, or the Klingons, I feel like it would make things either a party of people trying to murder other PCs or it just not feeling like Mirror Universe.

Looks like it'll be Dominion War in any case! Fun times. I don't think we'll go off on a Miranda class since I want this to last a bit more than two posts, maybe a Galaxy or some sort of refit. At this time, unsure.

Sadly I do have to announce that this idea is already on hiatus due to me suddenly lacking a computer to work from and having to do most of everything on phone. So, yeah, large scale formatting/image editing went out the window. It's a fun time.
