Brief History (use to justify Geopolitical Status): Rather than declaring himself Emperor, *Napoleon declared himself Chef d'Etat (Head of State), essentially a Dictator in perpetuity. This allowed to court republicans who managed to support his return to power in 1815 and reestablish the Republic with his victory in the hundred days. The childless Chief was succeeded by his nephew who began a controversial tradition of members of the *Bonaparte family retaining the title. Under their leadership, Galasie was able to secure much of the land they had lost after the failures of the early XIX century. After the social revolutions of the XX century, the position is much more hereditary, but casts long shadow, from the Rhine to the ocean and long lost colonies that enriched Galasie in the past.

Government System (short description): Italy is a constitutional monarchy, having been a democracy since the Democratization Referendum in 1946, and ratification of the Constitution of Italy in 1948. Italy utilizes a federal system, being partitioned into several states. The states have similar government structures to that of the national government, as well as local governments (Conti and Communi).

The Monarchy: The current sovereign is King Umberto Tomasso III of Savoia. The monarch of Italy holds limited ceremonial powers, with the primary function of serving as head of State. The King is responsible for naming a successor before death or abdication, or the eldest living child of the King will otherwise be crowned King.
The Executives: The executive branch is headed by the President and Vice-President of Italy. The President of Italy is elected to a four year term indirectly through an Electoral College. The President and Vice-President's terms are renewable once. The President is commander of the armed forces, chief of all executive administrative departments, and signs or vetoes legislation.
The Legislature: The Legislature is comprised of two houses, the Parliament of Representatives and the Senate. The Senate is elected by State Legislatures to a six year term, which is renewable once. Each State has three Senators. The Parliament is elected directly by the people every two years, and it's membership is based on population. The Parliament has 508 members, or one member for every 125,000 persons. The legislature is responsible for creating and passing laws.
The Judiciary: The Judiciary is responsible for interpreting the law and the constitution. The highest court in Italy is the Italian Supreme Court, comprised of twelve Justices appointed for life by the Senate. Beneath the Supreme Court are the Circuit Courts of Appeals, of which there is one in each State. Beneath the Circuit Courts are the District Courts, of which there are multiple in each State, depending on the population.

Italy utilizes a runoff system for voting, in which voters select parties or candidates based on primary preference, followed by secondary and tertiary preference. Should a voter's primary candidate not be elected, their vote will be transferred onto the secondary candidate, and so on and so forth.

Law enforcement is managed at all major levels of government. Large cities (such as Roma, Venezia, Milano, Bologna, Firenze, etc) have separate police departments. Outside major urban areas, local law enforcement is handled by a County Sheriff (Sceriffo della Conta). County Sheriffs are assisted by Deputy Sheriffs (Vice Sceriffo), of which four are hired from every Communo (Municipality) in the Conta. The mass exodus between the unification and the 1960s has seen thousands of Italians leave the nation all over the world, giving birth to large Italian communities across the planet, especially in Europe and the Americas Since the 1940s, a new economic boom propelled Italy into the international spotlight, as liberal government policies combined with free economic policies enriched the nation. Elections in Taiyin are based on a hierarchical electoral system. Local People's Congresses are directly elected, and all higher levels of People's Congresses up to the National People's Congress (NPC), the national legislature, are indirectly elected by the People's Congress of the level immediately below. Governors, mayors, and heads of counties, districts, townships and towns are in turn elected by the respective local People's Congresses. A candidate may be nominated by a legal party or organization, or could be any voter seconded by at least 3 others. The final list of candidates is worked out through democratic centralism. Voting is to be done by secret ballot, and voters are entitled to recall elections. Electoral districts at the basic level (townships, towns, etc) are composed of 200–300 voters but sometimes up to 1000, while larger levels (counties, etc) are composed of 3000 to 4000 voters. Voters begin with direct local elections, selecting deputies to Township and County level People's Congresses. These People's Congress Deputies then elect Municipal Deputies, who then elect Provincial Deputies, who elect NPC Candidates, from which NPC Deputies are chosen.

The NPC is the supreme organ of state power, made up of many sub-committees and bodies which it elects, including the NPC Standing Committee (NPCSC), the permanent body of the NPC. It also elects the President, the Premier of the State Council, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, and the Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

The NPCSC oversees the election of the NPC, and can extend the term of the current NPC by a put off election by at most a year with a two thirds majority vote. The NPCSC convenes the NPC once a year, and may do so when it finds it necessary or with a proposal from one fifth of NPC's members. The NPCSC holds power until the succeeding NPC elects its standing committee. It exercises the majority of the power of the NPC and meets in continuous session, when the full session of the NPC is not held. The NPCSC also has the power of judicial and legal interpretation. The official name of the central government is the State Council, sometimes referred to as the Central People's Government. In the early 1900's, with the advent of the discovery of oil and other rare earth minerals, the miners led a revolt which engulfed the nation in a revolution, in which the native population and sympathizers took control of the country for themselves. Brokering peace between them and their colonizers, the newly formed CAU began large scale economic and industrial reforms, while also establishing itself as a regional power by consolidating the tribes the "Treaty of 50 Tribes", which allowed local autonomy but would still pay taxes and abide by union standards for workers. Utilizing harsh methods implemented by the Central Committee they were able to utilize the land to it's fullest potential and putting itself as a new frontier for resources and labor. The nation, which was an pre-industrial mining colony became an economic power house by becoming a major importer of outsourced labor. These practices changed by the mid 1970's, where a coup led by Aurélia Courtet and the IWW which brought democracy to the country. While it lost some industrial power, it still prides itself in the manufacturing and mining sectors, as well as the agricultural sector, whilst also having a long list of civil liberties guaranteed to all those that live within it's borders.

The Ismeili Government is a Theocratic Elective Semi-Constitutional Monarchy, divided amongst three powers the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary and further subdivided between Secular and Non-Secular. The Legislative is a purely Secular body elected between Ismeils 37 states in proportionally by number of votes, amongst its members a Head of Government is appointed by assembly and confirmed by the monarch. The Executive is a dual secular and islamic power: the Monarch, who is Head of State, is elected but only within the Royal Family and only by declared practicing muslims, this represents the islamic side; the Grand Vizier, who is Head of Government, is appointed by the parliament and can be confirmed or not by the monarch. Ismeil's origins date back to the Great Turkic Migrations of the medieval period, the settlement of Turko-Tungusic tribes in the Negev-Sinai Region constituted the initial formation of the Ismeili people, due to trade relations with other people and the ever expanding mediterrenean comerce the Ismeili homeland would flourish beneath the existence of other state entities. Amongst which was the successive Egyptian Sultanates all the way into the 19th century. Through those centuries the ismeili-turkish population would begin to expand rapidly and overtaking the arab-egyptians, to the point that within the mid 19th century the Turks had just become the majority population in both modern day Libya and Egypt.

Successive Egyptian crises later the Turko-Ismeili population eventually rose up against the Egyptian government, establishing the Exalted Ismeili State, stretching from the Nile River Valley as far south and east as Gonder and as far north and west as Tunis. Galasien interests in North Africa were inevitably interrupted by Ismeil's intereference in the region. Tensions would flair up in the 1891 and initiate border clashes between the two nations surrounding the Tunisian-Algerian border. However the situation was defused in the Tunis Congress, mediated by Great Eilean. As per the conditions of the 1891 Treaty of Tunis, Ismeil would give out land grants to the Galasien and Eileanic government to contruct the Suez Canal and allow them full shipping rights through it, in exchange Ismeil was given a 99 year mandate of Galasie's North African territories comprising of modern day Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and the Azawad Triangle. Throughout the mandate Pied-Noir migrants were guaranteed their traditional ownership rights up until 1958 when it became defunct, as another side the official ownership and administration of the Suez was given to Ismeil as written per the treaty.

The turn of the 20th century initiated with a trial by fire as the rather under developed North African sphere still lagged behind Europe in industrial prowess. This would change as world economic decline gave room for expanded industrial interest in North Africa and Petroleum prospecting funded by profits from the Suez Canal. The 1940s gave way from the economic decline into a boom called the Fifty Gilded Years, with the current Süleyman I Hashimad having ruled through most of its time. Now as 1990 approaches and the Economic Boom dissipates Ismeil has thrived under its Isolation being at the forefront of Nuclear technology exploited from the Nigerien Mines and the population boom of th years that passed.

Government System (short description): The Eileanic Government is a Unitary Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy, that is divided between two governmental powers, the Executive and the Legislative Branch. The Legislative is formed by the two Houses of Parliament, the House of Peers and the House of Commons, the Upper and Lower houses respectively. The House of Peers is made up of 747 Lords-Temporal (Barons, Earls, Dukes, et cetera) from across the Eileanic Isles, and as well by the Lords-Spiritual from the 26 Catholic Bishoprics across the Kingdoms. This marked the first time that the Eileanic Isles were unified under one crown. The reign of Robert I began the first punitive colonization attempts of the Exsean, and later Eileanic Kingdoms, first with Robertsburg in Charlottania on the Amalian continent which slowly spread across the Eastern Seaboard, and sugar islands of the Caribbean sea. The rest of the century, saw the unification of the isles, and the ideals of the Enlightenment leading to the Crown conceding more power to Parliament.

The Eighteenth Century marked the rise of the Kingdom of Great Eilean, with the multiple wars against the great opponents of Galasie, Scotatrova, the Turkic Berbers, Sagarian Nawabs and various other native groups across the globe, eventually culminating with the Seven Years War, the seizure of Bengal, All lands East of the [InsertMississippiNameHere] River, and Vanquishing of Galasie as an Imperial foe (for the time being). The first Pax Eilenica though did not last long, with the loss of the Amalian Colonies during the Amalian Revolution, and the Napoleonic Wars saw the Kingdom of Great Eilean (later United Kingdoms of Great Eilean and Strathland) see the darkest hours of Exesey till the Battle of Westcape, which saw the Royal Navy defeat the Galasien Navy, and the seizure of South Africa from the Republic of Salland. Finally culminating in the Treaty of Pfarren, resulting in the Nineteenth century being the Pax Eileanica.

The Glorianan Golden Era saw the Eileanic ascend to Super Power status the likes of which the world had never seen, by the Twentieth Century Great Eilean boasted an empire upon which the sun would never set, vast territories and populations under Eileanic Rule, resources beyond human imagination, guarded by the greatest fleet the world had ever known, the Royal Navy. Yet, the Great War saw the first crack in the façade of the Sunset Empire, mutinies, strikes, colonial uprisings, though all in time saw them suppressed, and the Concorde-Cordiale seeing eventual victory over the Acuisian Kaiserreich. Yet such a victory weakened Imperial Resolve, even with the eventual creation of the North Atlantic Concorde, and the Amalian pressure to give up the Empire, the Eileanic Empire has been on the retreat from across the globe, the East Sagries, Africa, the Far East, yet the clouds seemed to part with the coronation of Gloriana III, which saw a new, Glorianan Age dawn upon Great Eilean.'

Montmairism, created by the Queen's Cousin and First Minister, Lord-Admiral Montmair, sought out the preservation of the Empire through all costs and keeping all former colonial territories in line, no matter the costs. Beaten, but not yet broken, the past three decades have not been fair on the Eileanic Empire, with the dawn of the Twenty-First Century, the question is raised. Shall the sun finally set?
