by Democratic East-Asia
Full Nation Name : Pan European / Europan Empire (and protectorates)
Short Nation Name : Europan Empire (or simply "The Empire")
Flag / National Symbols: Flag of the Empire

Government Type : Absolute monarchy (with some parliamentary elements)
Official Political Ideology : Protectionist capitalism (with heavy state intervention)
Head of State : Emperor Charles von Stroheim
Head of Government : Prime Minister Herbert Ernst Karl Frahm
Government Description :

The Empire is unsurprisingly an autocratic state, albeit one with some trappings of a democratic government (nominally). Led (nominally) by an elected prime minister, the Pan-Europan lower house is composed of regularly elected public officials from all of the Empire's various kingdoms/duchies/states. On the surface this is democratic, though there are many catches to who can actually vote and how powerful the lower house really is. Voting rights within the Empire are relatively restrictive, limited only to men and women who fit the following:

  • Own property (in terms of land, housing/buildings, and other assets)
  • Have an annual income of over 80,000 Euros
  • Pass a state-mandated literacy test
  • Come from a preferred racial background OR have been recognized as an "Honorary Europan"

Naturally, there are a number of exceptions: citizens who've contributed heavily to the advancement of Europan society through military, scientific, and government service are also granted voting rights (as are Honorary Europans) while people with criminal records of any sort are denied the vote. Colonial subject populations (numbers) are quite obviously denied any form of political representation (unless they opt to become "honorary europans"), as are most "societal inferiors" given how strict Europan voting laws are. That said, provided that a citizen DOES have the ability to vote, he can rest easy knowing that his voice may have been heard by those in charge. Reality of course, is often dissapointing. While the Lower House does have the ability to vote on and propose legislation, it is the Upper House that holds precedent when it comes to decision making.

The House of Lords (what the Britannians call it anyways) is composed of the Empire's very large and surprisingly diverse aristocracy. It's largely a formality nowadays (Nobles have better things to do) but does hold yearly meetings and votes on legislation now and then. The real power lays with the Imperial family, more specifically the Emperor himself. Charles von Stroheim is undeniably the Pan Europan Empire's absolute ruler, and it goes without saying that his word is the law...

You're still reading this? Well, I guess its time to briefly look at the Europan system of colonial governance. It's pretty obvious, but yes the Empire has colonies, and a lot of them in fact. Similar to the Britannians from the anime, colonies are divided into numbered districts, with each assigned a military (or appointed) governor and large garrison force. Colonial subject peoples are on a whole treated horribly by the highly racist and darwinist Imperial Government, which plays off different ethnicities against one another. For example, the Igbo people might be nominally favored (given prefered positions in colonial jobs, better living conditions, more "honorary citizens") compared to say, the Yoruba. It's an old system that's worked for IRL colonial empires in the past, and the Europeans here keep it so long as its' necessary. That said, "prefered treatment" might as well mean getting stabbed in the foot vs getting shot in the back. Practices such as forced labor (basically just slavery), starvation-level wages, suppression of civil and social groups, and genocide are regular in Imperial Africa.

Territory : Most of continental Europe and a large part of Africa (as seen on this map)
Territorial Ambitions : The Imperial Monarchy openly declares its intent to enlighten the world.
Capital City : "New Europa", a planned city approximately 40 km south of "Germania" / Berlin. To those familiar with the series it somewhat resembles Pendragon from Code Geass in both size and majesty. The current population sits at ~10,000,000.

Population : Upwards of 550 or so million in the European core (all ISOTed territories at least). Colonial population is approximately 350 million (a poor estimate).

Majority/Official Culture : The government of Pan Europa has long advocated for a "Unified European Identity"... which has seen some success in the Empire's older kingdoms and states. This united culture is rather Germano-centric, though incorporates elements from North French, Italian, and other "approved cultures" within the Empire as a whole. That said, a majority of the Empire is rather diverse in its own right, given that Europe is a very large place indeed. Some cultures, however (including the Dutch and various German identities along the Rhine), have been largely absorbed/destroyed.

Majority/State Religion : The Empire has no state religion, though a significant minority are Protestant and Catholic. That said, the Emperor himself is an atheist (as is a large percentage of the upper class). The ruling Pope at the moment is all but an Imperial puppet figure.

Major Industries / Economic sectors: Consumer goods production (various), heavy machinery, mechs / robotics, materials (various), shipbuilding, etc (The Empire's economy covers most categories due to its utter size)

Amount of Industrialization : Given the general aesthetic / vibe of Code Geass, it should be sufficient to say that major powers (including the Empire in this case) were all heavily developed, more so than their IRL counterparts in fact. The Pan European Empire here maintains a very large industrial base throughout the Rhineland (and parts of France), Northern Italy, Danube regions, and parts of Poland and Eastern Ukraine. This industry has proven quite capable in running both the Empire's war machine and civilian economy, churning out vehicles and weapons just as quickly as it churns out consumer goods. Of course, extremely heavy military spending has been straining the civilian market for the last few years.

Economic Description : The Imperial economy is an utter colossus in terms of size, sucking in resources from across the world to feed its massive consumer and industrial base. Functioning under a largely capitalist, but heavily regulated (the Imperial government itself operates numerous companies) system, the Empire's economy is nonetheless dominated by conglomerates of large corporations, each of which manages its own economic sector. It wouldn't be inaccurate to say the Empire runs under a sort of "fascist corporatism".

Workers' rights within the Empire are quite poor, though pressure from the Empire's traditional enemies has forced Europa to make some concessions (A 10-hour workday limit, set minimum wage, vacation days, etc). Of course, many of these benefits are poorly enforced and often deliberately overlooked to maximize profit (and output in the colonies), with nastier things such as "unpaid overtime" quite common within the Imperial workforce. Wages in Europa proper remain tolerable (if far from ideal), though are likely to fall if the economy crashes. Colonial subject workers receive notably worse treatment compared to their European counterparts.

Technological Level : For the most part while some aspects of Imperial technology are reminiscent of those of the modern-day (early 21st century), there are many exceptions. Imperial weapons technology is notably more advanced, with the Empire in possession of infantry coilguns, railguns, various forms of mechs, and even some energy weapons and experimental shield systems. Rocketry has followed more or less modern developments. Imperial materials science and industrial practices are top-notch, with the empire capable of manufacturing enough high-strength alloys (and other composites) to build entire artificial islands and arcology-like cities. Some fields such as nuclear science are underdeveloped / new, though medical technology is evidently quite advanced.

Magic and other shenanigans? (If any exists) : Due to the nature of the world the Empire came from, Geass exists as a very real power that certain individuals possess. At the moment some members of both the Empire's elite inner circle and its secret police are known to possess Geass related powers.

Military Description

Overfunded, bloated, and increasingly corrupt, the Imperial Military stands as a giant on paper but has spent the past few decades in a state of relative peace. Military service is heavily encouraged throughout the Empire (and mandatory in some states), as soldiering is considered "one of the highest professions" by the Imperial aristocracy and leadership. The military is oddly enough one of the few organizations that doesn't totally discriminate, hence it is possible to see colonial conscripts serving alongside Europeans (though this is very very rare given how division composition is generally organized).

Army: The Imperial Army is arguably the pride of the Empire's armed forces and receives a majority of the Empire's overall military budget. It fields very large formations of armored and mechanized divisions (the two primary division types of the Imperial Army), each equipped with a bountiful supply of both heavy vehicles and Knightmare Frames. Heavier combatants in the form of mobile command centers and land battleships can also be seen. Discipline is high within divisions recruited from the core states while training is adequate. The typical Imperial trooper can expect to be issued a standard bullpup coil-rifle, standard carbon-composite body armor, and various other tools / gadgets a modern industrial age soldier would have.

A standard Imperial armored division is composed of approximately 12,000 soldiers (eyeballed), 250 MBTs, 270 knightmare frames, various artillery pieces, and any necessary support vehicles. A mechanized division is somewhat larger at 15,000 personnel in size, and focusses more on IFV/APCs and support vehicles (artillery) than heavy armor. Other divisions (mountain divisions, desert operation divisions) won't be detailed for the sake of brevity. Combat units fielded by the Empire's numerous knightly/military orders are notably different and generally much smaller (if more elite).

A more detailed analysis of a proper Panzer Division: (~12,000 total personnel)
(2) Panzer regiments (A total of 250-280 modern MBTs)
(1) Knightmare Frame regiment / combat wing (270 KMFs)
(1) Motor infantry brigade
Reconnaissance battalion (motorized)
(1) Motorized artillery regiment (SPGs, MLRS)
Various logistical battalions (medical, supplies, communications)

It is estimated that the Empire has approximately 10,100,000 soldiers in its army split between ~740 fully operational divisions, not counting any knightly/military orders. Even then this large force is stretched thin defending the frontier.

Navy: It goes without saying that similar to the army, the Europan Combined Fleet is an absolute beast in terms of size and funding. Due to the ongoing (prior to the ISOT) arms race with the Atlantic Federation (and its allies), the Empire was forced to build a fleet that could match (or at least contest) the North American Republic's incredibly powerful navy. As a result, the past few decades have seen to massive buildups in the Empire's navy. Currently, the European Combined Fleet possesses at least:
  • 35 CVN equivalent carriers (including super heavy battle-carrier variants)
  • 32 heavy battleships (modern)
  • 26 helicopter / light carriers
  • 74 cruisers and heavy cruisers
  • 450 frigates / destroyers
  • 370 corvettes (or so)
  • Over 250 submarines (various)
  • 60 mine warfare vessels
  • 300 or so smaller patrol boats
The navy itself is split into three operational zones as of the given moment (Europe proper, Mediterranean, Africa), with personnel and ship distribution relatively even across the board. Technologically there's nothing too outlandish about Europa's navy, though it does utilize a few techs not fully implemented yet IRL (coil/railguns are common).

Air Force: Largely glossed over (in the anime too), it can be assumed that the Europan Imperial Airforce is more or less modern in regards to most of its equipment, with the exception of fielding a number of heavy airships and flight-capable Knightmare frames (blaze luminous hover systems). VTOL transports and gunships also exist. The most common Europan jet fighter closely resembles an IRL Eurofighter typhoon in both appearance and capability, with the exception of longer flight range (sakuradite reactors are highly efficient). Likewise, there exist F-22 look-alikes and other planes an IRL individual might recognize.

Unsurprisingly, the Europan Imperial Airforce is incredibly large, fielding tens of thousands of planes across two continents. Of course, not all of these planes are modern.

National Goals : First and foremost is to weather the impending economic collapse (due to the ISOT) and anything that might arise from such a situation. After that, we'll see.

History :

The Pan European Empire traces its origins back to one particular Central European royal family which rose to prominence during the 16th century. Under the leadership of a particularly aggressive and competent line of emperors, the Habsburg family managed to consolidate its hold over much of the old HRE and Spain, eventually expanding outwards and absorbing regions such as the dutch provinces and Switzerland (which was defeated after a particularly grueling war). France was gradually worn down by successive wars (and the religious chaos of the mid-late 1500s), shedding territories to the HRE. As history progressed the Empire would continue its gradual expansion, driving the Ottomans out of much of the Balkans while eventually uniting Italy.

The age of colonization would see towards the establishment of numerous Spanish, Britannian, and a few French and other European colonies throughout the Americas. While the German elements of the Empire largely missed out on this phase of colonization, the HRE instead took its time to consolidate its holdings on the European mainland, and push the Ottomans back to Bulgaria. Industrialization began to kick into full throttle as factories began springing up across Europe and the British Isles.

As the age of revolutions swept across Europe, France would finally be pacified during its revolution and incorporated into the Empire's sphere. Likewise, the faltering Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth would be partitioned between the Empire and Russia. Across the ocean, Britannia's North American colonies on the Eastern Seaboard would break free and go on to found the United Republic of America. Unlike the monarchies of Europe and despotic regimes of the East, the Americans would openly champion the ideals of democracy and equality. This would set the stage for the next two centuries as the rising threat of republicanism would shake the old world to its core.

The gears of history were beginning to accelerate.

In 1812 a.t.b the first Russo-Imperial war broke out after diplomatic talks over the status of Poland broke down. The Russians, unwilling to back down from their occupation of Eastern Congress Poland (which was to be handed to the Empire), launched an offensive into Eastern Prussia and the empire's Galician territories. The small kingdom of Moldova would side with the Russians, intent on reuniting with its brethren in Imperial dominated Wallachia. The three-year-long conflict only dragged on for such length mostly due to the stubbornness of the Russians, who initially refused to surrender despite losing key cities such as St. Petersburg and Moscow. However, the Russians ultimately lost and were dealt a rather humiliating blow. The Empire would gain client states throughout Eastern Europe in the wake of Russia's defeat, further solidifying it as Europe's dominant power.

Alas, despite the massive successes it had achieved in past centuries, the House of Hapsburg had by the 1840s been in a state of consistent decline. Their failures in containing the various republican revolutions throughout South America alongside a series of increasingly incompetent rulers led to a growing power vacuum within the hall of Vienna's imperial palace. These issues were only compounded with the assassination of Emperor Francis in 1842 by a republican terrorist, leading to a major power struggle between the Empire's nobles. The "Decade of Blood" as it came to be known saw the killings and deaths of hundreds of nobles across Europe. Ultimately it was not the Habsburgs nor any other major noble house that won out: rather, a certain man from the "Stroheim" family. Charles von Stroheim came from a line of Prussian petty nobles who'd made a name for themselves during the Russo-Imperial war. Through extensive political maneuvering and a fair bit of backhanded dealings, Charles had propelled himself into a position to seize the throne. After 7 years of political violence, Charles von Stroheim ascended as Emperor of the (not so holy nor Roman) Empire and declared the founding of the Pan European / Europan Empire.

What followed was a period of extensive political and social change. Charles abolished most of the old feudal titles present within the old HRE and annexed a majority of the Empire's subject states. Similar to its Britannian neighbor, Europa adopted a forceful imperialist and social darwinist approach towards colonization and social reorganization. While the Hapsburgs had been relatively successful at building a "pan European" imperial culture and identity, Charles intensified efforts to integrate the "misguided masses" of French, Romanians, Poles, and other national minorities. This policy proved rather unpopular, and to enforce it Charles resorted to rather... extreme measures. Throughout his 28-year long reign (1849 - 1887) hundreds of thousands of political dissidents, "undesirables", and other "riff-raff" were sentenced to forced labor, shipped off to prison colonies, or simply executed. Yet for all his shortcomings Charles did make a surprising number of "good" decisions: he built new universities and made tuition free (for those accepted), encouraged scientific research and funded institutions, and encouraged industrialization and infrastructure development. To this day most (loyal) Imperials agree that Charles was "more or less a good ruler".

For all their troubles the old Habsburgs were given Spain and Portugal as their own semi-independent kingdom within Europa's sphere. This would come to bite the Europans in the ass later.

The latter half of the 1800s flew by as the age of imperialism entered its second stage and Africa was conquered. Britannia would manage to secure a series of their own colonies (Nigeria, East Africa, South Africa, etc) while the Empire took the lion's share. The United Republic of America would see towards its own expansion, gradually absorbing all of Central America. In the far east, Japan's fast-paced industrialization (thanks to sakuradite reserves) would enable it to rapidly expand as an imperialist power, with Japan chopping off major parts of China (Manchuria, Korea, Indochina, some coastal cities and provinces) from an ailing Xin Dynasty (a semi-generic Han Chinese successor to the Ming). The Ottomans would continuously decline, shedding both Bulgaria and Greece in the 1870s (both of which are then absorbed by the Europans). Russia despite all odds and a large republican revolution in the 1890s (which overthrew the Tsardom) would manage to industrialize under a semi-socialist regime. Minor states such as the Scandinavian kingdoms were absorbed as the 19th became the 20th century.

Throughout the 1890-1900s, world tensions grew as the various competing powers sought to dominate one another. Britannia was worried about American expansionism while the Americans wanted to fully secure their borders. The Empire of Europa looked towards the Russians and Ottomans wearily, and both nations in turn allied with one another for common defense. The Ottomans simply wanted to survive; Russia wanted to reclaim its old territories and get revenge. By the 1910s, a massive arms race had developed between the world's powers, and all it took was a simple assassination to kick things off.

The Kingdom of Iberia by the 1900s was a rapidly declining power, having lost all its colonies and on the brink of total economic collapse due to extreme mismanagement and a lack of industrialization. The Habsburg monarchy was unpopular with virtually everyone: the Portuguese despised being ruled by a foreign dynasty, the Spanish were sick of the terrible conditions within the kingdom, and the Catalonians wanted independence. Radical ideologies such as Beutelism (libertarian socialism) and Marxism began to gain supporters, especially amongst urban Iberians. Numerous revolutionary groups and societies were founded as the Kingdom declined. Funded by both the Americans and Russians, the revolutionaries prepared to make a move.

On July 4th, 1913, as King Alfonso XIII's procession made its way to church in Madrid, a beutelist revolutionary by the name of Juan Prim intercepted Alfonso's motorcade with help from six of his comrades. They opened fire at the cars with their pistols, killing numerous officials and wounding Alfonso's chief guard. As Alfonso's car sped away, a machine gun opened up from one of the nearby buildings and totally shredded the small electric vehicle. Alfonso was riddled with bullet holes and died instantly. In the chaos that ensued, Prim and his supporters stormed Madrid's parliamentary building and declared the end of the old Iberian Kingdom and the founding of the Spanish Republic. Soldiers across the country mutinied and declared their allegiance to the new revolutionary provisional government while Portugal declared independence. Catalonia, already swamped with Kingdom troops (due to prior violence), erupted into violence.

Europa immediately declared war on the nascent republican regimes in Iberia and began mobilizing while Britannia and America finally came to blows over Canada. Just a week later the Russians declared war on the Empire out of both support for the ideological allies and a burning desire to recover what it considered "rightful land". The Ottomans opted to fight defensively. Despite their quick initial advance, the Russians quickly bogged down after reaching the cities of Kiev and Minsk as Imperial reinforcements flooded in from the west. Ultimately, the war became one of attrition, and it was one Russia and the Ottomans simply could not win. By mid-1917, after years of trench warfare, the sudden introduction of tanks by the Empire finally turned the tide and allowed Imperial troops to break through Russian frontlines, which completely collapsed. Likewise, the nascent Iberian republics were crushed. As Imperial troops moved in on Moscow and Madrid, across the world a different picture was taking hold.

The United Republic of America by the 1900s had turned from a once loose collection of colonies into an industrial superpower of its own right, having conquered much of Central America and the Caribbean. Throughout the war, the Americans had been busy supplying the various European republican states while simultaneously fighting the Britannian Empire. Britannia would suffer crushing defeats in the Americas, losing Canada by late 1915 and most of its island possessions by the next year. By 1917 American soldiers were landing in Australia and Southern Africa while the Britannians reeled from an increasingly dysfunctional economy and broken military. Britannian citizens starved as food shipments from the colonies shrunk up (the Europans couldn't spare any for Britain) and prices skyrocketed. The Brits simply couldn't take it any longer. In late 1917, the Britannian Empire signed a conditional ceasefire with the URA and dropped out of the war. Those colonies that hadn't been occupied by the Americans quietly defected to the Europans as Britainia turned inwards. It seemed that the flames of conflict were finally dying down.

Europa had survived the first Pan-Oceanic War, and on paper was larger (and stronger) than ever before. The grim reality was that the European Empire could only barely hold on to what it had conquered (it was frankly a miracle everything kept together). Millions of Europan citizens had died in the trenches of Russia and on the streets of the country's starved cities while civil unrest was at an all-time high. Industrial workers and farmers, tired of their long working hours and meager pay, rioted across the Empire. Things probably would've resolved themselves within some months... had it not been for a certain visionary.

Karl Marx was born into a family of relative wealth and high social rank and had lived what most would call "the easy life". Yet young Karl was dissatisfied with his lot in life and ultimately decided to forego his nobility and experience the lot of the average worker. What he discovered was a wretched existence, one where a human being would be worked to the bone and treated like expendable garbage by his so-called superiors. Compiling what he'd seen and felt during his ten years as a manual laborer, Karl Marx wrote the "Beutelist Manifesto" (Beutel himself had never actually written such a book), an ideological guide extolling a new form of revolutionary socialism. Marxism-Beutelism (the work built off what Beutel had written) advocated for the establishment of a "proletarian state" run by a direct democracy of the working class. The old ideals of freedom, democracy, social equality, and economic equity would be held paramount by the proletarian republic, which would eventually transition to a classless and stateless society. It was a dream Marx hoped would become a reality.

Marx had his chance in the fall of 1917. Taking advantage of the already precarious situation at home and his growing fame, Karl assembled a core group of revolutionaries and overtook the Imperial garrison of Strasbourg as riots engulfed the city below. The "Beutelist Workers' Republic of Burgundy" came to life.

The November Revolution had begun, and all hell was breaking loose.

French, Polish, and Balkan nationalists, liberals, and socialists staged uprisings throughout late 1917 into the opening months of 1918, causing major disruptions to both the imperial economy and military. Marx's revolutionaries at their height managed to hold much of the western Rhineland and a few key industrial cities... before the hammer finally fell.

Otto von Bismarck, the Imperial PM, was going to have none of this radical nonsense. Unfortunately for the rebels, a rather wide segment of Imperial society agreed, and the counterrevolution and government pushback was too much for the revolutionaries to handle. With stunning efficiency, Bismarck brutally crushed the rebellions one after another. Most of Europe was pacified by 1919, and Strasbourg itself was surrounded by the end of that year. Marx and a few of his closest confidants holed themselves up inside Strasbourg's parliamentary building and prepared for a last stand. The 160 or so surviving revolutionaries were no match for the thousands of Imperial soldiers storming in from outside, but they nonetheless fought like lions. With a large stockpile of grenades and a few stolen machine guns, they managed to hold off the Empire's soldiers for nearly 4 hours before running out of ammunition and resorting to melee combat. It was a doomed endeavor from the start, and soon every last revolutionary had been silenced. Marx himself was bludgeoned multiple times by Imperial troops, who attempted taking him alive so he could stand trial for his crimes. The old German wasn't going to have any of it, and in one last act of defiance detonated a hidden grenade he had on him. With a resounding BOOM, the November Revolution came to its end.

After nearly 6 years of violence, the world was once again at peace. Over 30 million people died during the First World War.

“While revolutionaries as individuals can be murdered, you cannot kill ideas.”

However, there was one place where Marx's dream did indeed come true. Britannia had left the war an economically broken nation on the verge of starvation, and the Imperial family had become incredibly unpopular due to the sheer enormity of the disaster they'd brought upon the British Isles. Labor and food riots spiraled out of control as government violence only further infuriated the impoverished and starving masses, and it seemed that revolution was in the air. It was time. Under the leadership of Marx's old Colleague Freidrich Engels, the Beutelist Liberation Army of Britannia staged simultaneous armed uprisings across England, Scotland, and Ireland. Mass mutinies accelerated the pace of the revolution, which quickly overtook London. Much of the Britannian royal family was killed during the violence, though a few including a certain Victoria would manage to escape to Europa. They were followed by the flight of over 2.5 million Britannians, many from the middle and upper crusts of society. These Britannians would come to make up a significant community within Europan Burgundy.

As violence died down in early 1920, Engels and the Beutelists declared the founding of the "Workers' Federation of Britannia". While the Europans wanted to intervene, the poor state of the economy at home and still simmering unrest within Europe proper prevented them from doing so. In order to secure the future of the revolution, the WF Britannia quietly began improving its relations with the North American Union.

Life in Britannia after the revolution changed drastically. The right to vote was extended to each citizen, all minorities were granted full and equal rights, "national" groups such as the Scots and Irish were once again permitted to express themselves, workplaces were democratized and wages raised, work hours finally reduced, and much more. Despite initial skepticism from outside observers, the Workers' Federation in fact maintained its democracy throughout the post-war years, and attempts by authoritarian factions to rise in power were avoided.

Europe's post-war years were largely quiet as the country began the painful process of reconstruction. Politically not much changed: the Empire retained its old imperialist, centralized ways. All leftist political parties and organizations were banned in the post-war Empire, which never again wanted to see anything similar to the likes of 1917. Suspected Beutelists and Marxists were jailed and killed en masse, as were "sympathizers" (which oddly included a lot of Russians). Kaiser Wilhelm von Stroheim (who had presided over WW1) would go on to marry his second wife (Victoria II) in 1930 a.t.b after his first died. Victoria herself would eventually succeed Wilhelm as the Empire's absolute ruler in 1936 after unknown circumstances led to the deaths of the Kaiser's three sons. Victoria's reign would be remembered for its legacy of violence and treachery.

To control the new Russian territories, the Reichkommissariats of Novgorod, Muscovy, Smolensk, Caucasus, and Ost-Ukraine were established. Each was eventually slanted for full integration, provided that the local populations assimilated. "Europeanization" policies were heavily encouraged in the new territories, with residents encouraged to learn either German or New Latin (some Italic form), convert away from or renounce Orthodox Christianity, and change their names. Likewise, settlers from Western Europe began to arrive in former Russia, either displacing existing inhabitants or occupying now abandoned land. The same process was attempted in former Turkey and Arabia.

The ongoing economic crisis in Europe made it apparent to the Empire that in order to compete with the now very large North American Union (having annexed Canada), it needed to increase the productivity of its colonies. MittelAfrika in particular was of great interest, having been well known for its lucrative rubber industry. As rubber prices collapsed during the 1920s, it became quite apparent that the old brutalist plantation methods MittelAfrika had been running on were no longer profitable.

One project, however, would capture the imagination of the Imperial Colonial Administration. A young bright-eyed engineer named Hermann Sorgel approached the government with a bold initiative: dam the Congo River, and create a massive central African sea in the Congo basin. Sorgel claimed this would create a more moderate climate, provide excess water to irrigate the less temperate regions of Mittelafrika, stabilize the water level of Lake Chad, and most of all, to generate a tremendous amount of electricity, a necessity for both the burgeoning industry of the Lower Congo, and for the extensive air conditioning that the Europan plan to move Imperial settlers into the heart of Mittelafrika required.

This plan was put into full motion starting in the mid-1930s. A small series of smaller dams were built further up the Congo for controlled flooding in preparation for the construction of the behemoth itself: the Kaiser Wilhelm Dam. It would take tens of millions of tons of concrete, millions tons of steel, and the combined forced labor of over 150,000 Africans to complete the dam, which was finished in the mid-1940s (right as the 2nd World War raged). The dam had been completed, but the human costs were astounding. Horrible working conditions and rampant disease led to the deaths of some 37,000 laborers.

As Europa preoccupied itself with large African industrialization projects and dams, to the far east another empire was rising. Japan had profited greatly from the First World War and entered the 1920s as a relatively industrialized and prosperous imperial state with a burgeoning colonial empire. As Xin dynasty China neared a state of collapse in the late 1920s, the Japanese military swooped in and the Emperor of Japan declared the annexation of China. Resistance within the country was disorganized and scattered, allowing Japan free reign over much of Asia. As of the late 1930s, the Japanese Empire stood dominant over all of China, Mongolia, outer Manchuria, East Siberia, and all of South East Asia (including Indonesia). Only the NAU aligned Philippines remained independent.

The world was fast-tracking towards war. In protest to Japanese expansionism, the NAU and its allies in South America and Australasia would place trade embargoes on Japanese goods, and cease the export of resources such as iron and coal. Japan in response began building up its military in preparation for what it thought would be an eventual confrontation and strengthened its ties with the Pan Europan Empire. American operatives funded revolutionary groups throughout Eurasia, hoping that they'd hopefully draw away Europan and Japanese attention. It worked.

In 1938 a.t.b, revolutionary cells across China rose up against the Japanese occupation government. They seized key cities across inland China and greatly disrupted Japanese infrastructure and communications. Dr. Sun Yatsen declared the founding of the Republic of China from Chongqing and rallied his people for their subsequent war of independence. To the Japanese militarists, this was clear evidence that the Americans had been messing within their sphere of influence. The final showdown had to be now before the situation in China spiraled out of control.

In 1939 a.t.b, the Japanese Empire launched simultaneous assaults against dozens of NAU pacific possessions and staged an invasion of Australia and the Philippines. Days later, the NAU initiated War Plan Red and invaded Imperial Africa. The 2nd World War had begun.

WW2 was a mess and a half, and saw Imperial victories in some places and NAU ones in others. The brutal invasion of the Britannian Workers' Federation cost the Empire over 2.5 million soldiers and led to the deaths of some 4 million Britannians before an American expeditionary force pushed the Empire off. Strategic bombing missions were conducted by all sides with much of the British Isles, Northern France, and Burgundy heavily damaged throughout the war. Rebellions would erupt in Iberia (again) and Russia, drawing away large amounts of Europan manpower and resources. Yet despite these setbacks, the Empire would manage to kick the Americans off Africa... but otherwise could do little more. The NAU and Europans ultimately settled for a status-quo ceasefire in 1944 a.t.b before the Americans turned their attention towards Japan.

Despite Japan's economic superiority compared to its IRL self, the full might of the NAU would prove impossible for the Asian empire to overcome. After a year of island hopping (and kicking the Japanese out of New Guinea), the NAU was positioned to liberate the Philippines and begin mass strategic bombing over the home islands. NAU jet bombers laid dozens of Japanese towns and cities to waste while the once-powerful IJN was largely sunk by late 1946 a.t.b. Years of research into sakuradite refinement allowed the NAU to begin deploying powerful boosted-implosion bombs: large explosive devices that utilized relatively large quantities of high-grade sakuradite. 20 tons each, a single boosted implosion bomb could yield up to 2 kilotons tnt of explosive power: not quite on the same level as a proper nuclear device (which weren't built till far later) but enough to lay waste to multiple city blocks at once. Dozens of these devices were used during the war, as were massive quantities of standard explosives. Over 2 million Japanese died during the NAU's bombing campaigns before Japan, on the verge of total economic and social collapse, surrendered in early 1948 a.t.b. The war in the east was over. Tens of millions had died due to war, starvation, genocide, and crimes against humanity. The Imperial family was exiled (and fled to Europa), while a new Japanese Republic was founded.

As America celebrated its victory over Japan, the Empire was once again embroiled in a series of civil conflicts as marginalized groups revolted against the government. In Congo, the Mongo people (and a few other Bantu groups) rose up against the colonial government out of anger over the loss of their historic homeland (which was flooded to make way for the congo sea). Massive riots in France broke out in 1944 a.t.b after the Empire's failed invasion of Britain, as the French were infuriated due to both economic hardship and the disproportionate losses suffered by their kingdom (over a million French soldiers died in Britain). Iberia exploded, again. The Arabs revolted. And the Russians? The Russians took up arms in such large numbers the Empire was forced to divert millions of troops to the region.

Victoria was furious and decreed that each and every rebellious population was to be punished with immense severity. The genocide in Congo was terrible.

These same scenes were repeated in Arabia, where up to 6 million Arabs were murdered in roughly the same amount of time. In order to prevent an uprising in Egypt, Victoria chose (wisely) to officially consider Egyptians as separate from Arabs, and bestowed upon them the status of "Honorary Europan". The new Kingdom of Egypt was granted dominion over the Holy cities (to appease the local Muslims), and those Arabs that could quickly attempted to declare themselves as "Egyptians".

The war in Russia was a disaster.

Yet once again, the Empire would manage to weather this period of instability despite shedding a number of territories. It turned out that hundreds of years of Imperial rule and propaganda meant the core parts of Central and Southern Europe were firmly Imperial in outlook, and there existed large numbers of self-identified Imperials in historically troublesome regions such as France and Poland as well. The failure of the 1940s revolutions ultimately would only strengthen Imperial rule within Europa proper. Victoria II began what she termed was the beginning of the Empire's final phase of integration, and pressure mounted on formerly tolerated minorities to assimilate.

The decades passed, and Victoria eventually disappeared from the public eye. The world entered a new cold war between the Europa (and its allies) and the Atlantic Federation (NAU and friends) as neither side had the willpower nor ability to invade the other. Anti-Imperial colonial uprisings led to the independence of India and the Empire's decision in extending "honorary europan" status to its colonials in an attempt to stem rising unrest. A series of rather unremarkable emperors and empresses throughout the 1960-90s seemed to indicate a gradual decline in the Empire’s fortunes, but across the ocean it was far from sunshine and rainbows as well. An increasingly nationalist China would ultimately split from the NAU in the 1980s after disputes with American-aligned Vietnam turned violent. The opening of the Chinese market would push new life into the Empire’s economy, as would the ascendance of Charles von Stroheim (not to be confused with the first Emperor) to the imperial throne.

Charles' reign was characterized by large scientific advances, a generally strong economy, and a reinvigoration in national spirit. The invention of the Knightmare frame in the late 2000s signalled the height of Imperial technological achievement and military engineering, and as war once again loomed on the horizon, the Empire was ready. In 2011 a.t.b Europa declared war on the Workers’ Federation of Britannia and overran the two islands in less than a month… weeks later it began its invasion of India, cutting a swathe through India’s tank armies with its new Knightmare divisions. The Atlantic Federation took to India’s defense and World War 3 began.

It’s been six years into the war, and the Empire makes steady advances on all fronts against its enemies. Chinese neutrality has proven to be a major hindrance to NAU, who continues to challenge the Empire by sea and on land with its own KMF forces and vast conventional army. The deployment of the FLEIJA in 2015 proved to be a devastating surprise, and as of now has led to a stalemate on numerous fronts. Yet in this world of superpowers, it is ultimately individuals who have the ability to change history. Charles' meddlings with a power far beyond his full understanding have not gone unnoticed, and a certain group of individuals does not intend for the emperor to get his wish of “world peace”...

I'm going to try RP as Rhodes Island from Arknights, which is a medical organization trying to cure a terminal disease back in their homeworld (and also have a powerful paramilitary nature combat division, even though it's the smallest compared to other divisions). Also can't make the app yet rn as I'm busy, but just want to say that I plan to have it spawn first around Southern China. Also, the whole organization is located on gigantic mobile platform just to let you all know

My friend! This actually might be very interesting, provided that I believe there is a potential reunion player. I guess the whole cast might be here after all.

Honestly, I'm kinda hyped about more Arknights mostly because I'm a fan of the game (and the concepts behind it).

Alien Physiological Weirdness
Togruta: Their montrals allow them to sense the movement of objects around them through echolocation with a range of up to 25 metres - although juveniles lack the same effective range due to their immature montrals.
Mirialan: While nearly physiologically identical to humans - befitting a near-Human species, they're notably more flexible and agile than baseline humans.
Naboo: Technically classified as humans, the colonist population of Naboo is more accurately divided into two strata - the nobility and the commoners. While the commoners are standard, baseline humans, the nobility have their roots in the ancient creation of Naboo - scant historical sources name them as the descendants of Force sensitives who went into exile in the system and through their combined efforts made the planet. Which goes some way to explain the planet's exceedingly unusual physical makeup - more akin to a collection of rocks held together by a core of fluid water than a standard planet with a molten metallic core. As such, a somewhat unusual proportion of Naboo nobility possesses a minor level of Force sensitivity - usually manifesting as low-grade precognition and other Sense abilities.

Military Description
The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) is the ground forces of the Republic Military, the armed forces of the Galactic Republic. Locked in a brutal war against the secessionist Confederacy of Independent Systems for the past two years, it is a veteran force trained and equipped to operate in a wide variety of environments. It is comprised primarily of cloned human troopers, supported by ground combat vehicles in various roles. In addition to the rank-and-file soldier, the GAR consist of numerous specialists, including environment-based units.

The GAR command structure is staffed both by clone officers and, at the higher command levels, by Jedi Generals - members of the ancient Jedi Order who were called on by the Republic Senate to lead the GAR when war with the Confederacy broke out.

In space, the GAR is supported by the Republic Navy which engages in space combat operations and provides the army with spacelift capability. The Open Circle Fleet, or the Open Circle Armada, was a major space fleet of the Republic Navy and its primary expeditionary fleet. Built on a backbone of Venator-class Star Destroyers, it is tasked with taking the fight to the Confederacy Navy.

Both the GAR and Republic Navy are deeply interlinked, with the Navy nominally subordinate to the GAR formation they're attached to - although naval and ground command are largely independent.

Anaxes Strike Group Two
Anaxes Strike Group Two was mustered to reinforce the Anaxes campaign, an engagement with the aim of turning away a concentrated Confederacy offensive on one of the Republic's primary shipyards and a key infrastructure for supporting the Republic war effort.

Strike Group Two - comprising three GAR corps, an independent legion and reinforced by the entire Flame Trooper Corps - was intended to be part of a key counteroffensive aimed at repelling the Confederacy forces currently held at stalemate.

They never arrived.

Head of Organization : FrostNova/Yelena
Other Important Individuals : N/A

Territory : N/A

Population : 401
Membership : 401

Economic Policy : As a revolutionary movement lost in time, Reunion's economy is non-existent. Its members will typically barter for goods with one another, and receive a stipend of supplies from the stockpile of loot the revolution has acquired in its journey. They have no currency to speak of either, and subsists primarily off of raiding, looting, and scavenging.

Tech Level: Post-Modern Fantasy
Extra Information / Quirks:
Emergency Leadership
Reunion presents a united face to the world, but is internally wracked by division and strife, only kept together by the strength of personality and personal power of its leaders. Despite this, Reunion has been divided into several factions according to specializations and beliefs. First comes the Yetis, led by FrostNova herself, clad in white and children of the Originium mines in the northern territories of the Ursine Empire. These people are the closest thing Reunion have to idealists that believe in the cause of granting the Infected equal rights with the rest of society and finding a home for themselves away from those who would scorn their very existence. Then there are the Phantoms, led by Faust. Generally affable, these Infected are as silent in the internal politics of Reunion as they are silent in the battlefield. They do not share the blood-thirst of some of the Infected, but neither do they believe in a peaceful end to the Movement. Their exact motives are a mystery to their fellow Reunion, but their loyalty is unquestionable.

Normally, they would be on equal footing with the Yetis when it comes to the decision making of the impromptu council, but seeing as their numbers have dwindled and Faust is nowhere to be seen, they seem agreeable to following whatever the Yetis say. Though, they remain free to act by themselves.

Ancient Races
The people of Terra have evolved into various different races that have co-existed and warred with one another for centuries. They are all humanoid in shape, but most races feature animal ears and tails, and exhibit certain superhuman traits accordingly. Others like the Sankta and Sarkaz feature halos and wings of light for the former, and horns reminiscent of devils for the latter. Both exhibit a penchant for combat and Originium Arts.

Originium Arts
"Magic" as some call it, has existed for as long as society has existed. These physics defying feats were once only accessible to mage-kings and others capable of manipulating and transforming matter, but the advent of Originium Ore has brought these once mystic arts into the scrutinizing light of science. Secrets once thought impenetrable have been codified into a body of laws accessible to anyone with even the slightest talent for it. Extreme manifestations of modern Originium Arts include gravity manipulation over an entire battlefield, slowing the passage of time itself over a set area, melting entire buildings into slag in the span of a second, flash freezing entire city blocks, and so much more. However, those are reserved for once-in-a-lifetime geniuses with talent and resources to spare. More commonly Originium Arts manifest as energy based attacks, or the ability to heal grave wounds without need for medical equipment. Others still, are used to reinforce the abilities of ones allies to superhuman levels, or hamper the capabilities of enemies. Another common use for Originium Arts is the remote control of drones and familiars, safely away from the battlefield.

In warfare, Arts is the military's answer to armored formations as no amount of physical protection is capable of protecting against Arts-based attacks. Typically, one needs a conduit of sorts to use Arts. This usually takes the form of a staff or wand, but some have been known to use their voice alone for such a act. That feat however, is much rarer.

Oripathy and the Infected
A disease that predates even the invention of the law. Oripathy is a disease known to manifest as ore lesions across the body including internal organs, affecting many bodily systems and causing major organ failure at its terminal stages. Its symptoms are varied, but muscle weakness and sensory impairment are common in the majority of patients, often depending on where the ore lesions manifest. Auditory hallucinations have also been reported in most cases, wherein patients reportedly "hear" the ore talking to them in gibberish. If the patient begins to be able to understand this gibberish or give meaning to them, it is often a sign of worsening symptoms, and radiographic testing of the central nervous system is suggested as Ore lesions may have begun to manifest in the brain. Similarly, amnesia and a obsessive personality have been observed in the Infected population as their condition progresses. In a extreme minority of cases however, Oripathy has been known to cause mutations of the body, often benign or detrimental, but rare cases have been known to manifest useful adaptations such as increased physical strength and mental acuity despite damage to muscle and brain tissue, and even optical camouflage. Another common mutation is the increase in Originium Arts Adaptability, allowing Infected to better manipulate Originium Arts for more power at the cost of their lifespan.

So far, there is no known cure to Oripathy, and it is a disease with a 100% fatality rate. Medical science however, has proven that Infection can only be spread if Originium crystals enter the bloodstream, whereupon body tissue will be slowly converted into more Originium until the body ceases to function, and the corpse flakes away and aerosolizes to be inhaled or consumed by other living beings. Fears regarding the Infected being able to spread their disease any other way have not ceased despite this however, and many to this day fear breathing the same air as the Infected much less touching them. Similarly, getting cut by Originium Ore during accidents have been known to cause the disease, and even those wearing PPEs are still at risk of infection as the mere touch of raw Originium Ore has been known to cause the disease, and propagate itself slowly across the environment.

Harboring Infected is a crime in many states to this day, and failure to report a corpse is often cause enough for the shutdown and purge of entire districts to contain its spread.

Originium Industry
Despite risks of Infection, Originium is at the heart of Terran industry. Vastly more efficient and effective than any other alternative source of fuel, Originium engines power the vast Landships that are the modern city-states of today. Everything from production of goods and warmachines, to power generation is dominated by Originium. Refinement and study of the ore is the key to modern Terran civilization, and it has advanced understanding of the sciences at a rapid pace never before seen.

This has come with a downside however, for the more industrialized a nation is, the more often it is hit by Catastrophes, natural disasters that range from earthquakes to meteor showers, that convert the very ground into Originium. This knowledge has been suppressed to academia and theory, but the data was undeniable. Despite the dangers and all the suffering it has caused, the powers that be have unwittingly lain their survival on the constant supply of this miracle ore.

Military Description
The Reunion Movement's Armed Forces is divided according to its factions. Whilst at the base level, anyone can put on a mask and wear its symbol, they are but a mere smokescreen to fool outsiders into underestimating the true lethality of the Movement. These are no mere insurgents, but are highly trained and experienced guerrillas who've fought the militaries of superpowers to a standstill. No event encapsulates this as much as the Fall of Chernobog, wherein the Empire of Ursus, one of the premier superpowers of the world, was humiliated when the Mobile City and Fortress Chernobog fell to Reunion in less than a day. What was thought to be a simple riot to be quelled quickly spiraled into a uprising that felled the city's civil and military government. Months of espionage and undercover operations crippled the city's ability to respond, and Infected from all walks of life rose up to turn on their oppressors. Even units of Royal Guard, a elite wetwork squad, floundered against the full might of Reunion.

It was a perfect storm that would go down in the history books as one of the most ambitious and successful battles in living history.

Before this invasion, Reunion mainly relied on its elite infantry formations for success, but access to Chernobog's supply of military gear has equipped the movement with heavy weapons such as mortars, and the vast drone fleets the Empire of Chernobog is known for.

FrostNova's Yetis
The Yetis are one of Reunion's elite and most prestigious formations. Personally trained by Patriot, a veteran of the Kazdel war and hero to the Empire of Ursus before his infection, the Yetis utilize FrostNova's prodigious talent in Combat Arts to shape the very battlefield around them. The cold of winter sweeps in and visibility drops immensely as advanced equipment falters when their internal mechanisms are frozen. Soldiers feel their blood cool as the temperature drops to unbelievable levels in an instant, and a supernatural feeling of fear grips their hearts. It is a common story in the Origininium Mines north of the Empire, and it has terrorized countless numbers of patrols, convoys, and camps. Soldiers who report back to their commanders tell a tale of winter-clad wraiths whose very blades freeze limbs and leave corpses as shattered blocks of ice, coming and going just as suddenly as the cold air.

Whilst the Yetis do not deploy any Heavy Weapons of their own, their utilization of Arts more than make up for it. The degree to which these soldiers have incorporated Arts into their doctrine and equipment is unprecedented. These Infected children, sent to die in the mines for the Empire, have all grown into disciplined warriors without peer, and are a shining beacon of hope for the Infected as they go toe-to-toe with the best soldiers Ursus and Great Lungmen have to offer.

30 Yeti Ice Cleavers
60 Yeti Casters
80 Yeti Snipers
100 Yeti Operatives
50 Frostfangs

Faust's Phantoms
Phantoms are dedicated light infantry. Unlike the Yetis or the Possessed who engage in all ranges, the Phantoms prefer to keep their distance from the foe. They taught Faust everything they knew, and now follow his word to the letter. The young lad had proven himself to his seniors, and he proved both a trustworthy commander and friend. Trust is sparse in the Phantoms, so such a compliment means more than one might think. These mysterious conclave of elite skirmishers are stealth specialists who carry high-powered Crossbows with specialized ammunition called Ballistas. Unlike most military crossbows, these Ballistas are designed to penetrate even heavy armor. A mix of modern materials science and the use of Arts make these weapons deceptively effectively even against the heaviest of personal armors. In addition to their superb training and experience, the Phantoms truly earn their name thanks to the use of Utility Arts that hide their form and signature from electronic sensors and sight alike. To track these crossbowmen will instead rely on tracing the trajectory of the projectiles, and approximating from there, or engaging them in melee. Many a commander have been confounded by these skirmishers, and tales of these ghosts are common amongst those who've fought and worked alongside them.

10 Phantom Mortar Gunners
10 Phantom Casters
20 Phantom Crossbowmen
20 Lurkers
30 Phantom Medics
40 Wraiths

Navy: N/A

Air Force:
The maintenance and production of aircraft, and the training of pilots able to manipulate complex arts-based machinery and firing mechanisms are far too expensive for Reunion. Such things are only possible with the backing of a military power and a industrial base of a entire nation. Instead, Reunion's air force relies on the drone fleet of the Chernobog garrison, many of which Reunion has stolen during their initial strike against the city.

5 Raptor Drones - The latest in Combat Drone models, the Raptor Drone is armed with a minigun and ammo to spare. Their outstanding stealth capabilities make them a major threat to any infantry formation.
5 Arts Master A2 Drones - Combat Drones who've replaced their flight support models with a Arts Weapon Module, allowing it to send beams of concentrated Arts to pierce straight through any armor.
10 Defender-4 Drones - A conduit for Support Arts, these drones are unarmed but durable, and increase the physical capabilities of surrounding allies including mechanical ones as they find their mechanical frames reinforced, and it projects a bubble of Shield Arts around nearby allies.
10 Frost Drones - A heavily armored conduit for Support Arts, these drones are unarmed but can project the cold of extreme winters around them, freezing the ground and causing malfunctions in equipment not rugged enough to survive such low temperatures.

Organization Goals : The cessation of Infected persecution, the guarantee of Infected civil rights equal to the rest of society, and the creation of a state wherein the Infected can live without fear of discrimination.

History :
The Reunion Movement began as a way to make the Infected's woes visible to the public. Civil Protests and awareness programs to help the disenfranchised were the norm for Reunion in those days, but its activities were concentrated in the Ursus Empire which did not look kindly upon the Infected or their sympathizers. These activities were very much illegal and cracked down upon, but Reunion did not relent in their quest to better the lives of the infected. This perseverance gathered talented individuals to Reunion's arms, but that all changed when Reunion went quiet.

The cause is unknown to outsiders, but the leadership of the Movement still remember how, one day, Talulah changed. Her personality seemingly did a complete reversal, yet none were willing to question her. Their trust in Talulah was ironclad still, even if she did begin to present herself as some kind of infected messiah. Slowly but surely, Talulah betrayed her ideals, and Reunion was radicalized into what it was now. Their once peaceful protests turned violent, morphing into riots that saw many killed. Whatever good will they had built up with non-infected communities disappeared overnight. In the months of silence that followed this quiet, Reunion prepared for the fall of Chernobog.

Troops were trained beneath the noses of Imperial officials and law enforcement, as Reunion agents crippled and weakened the city's ability to respond to a attack. Key officials disappeared overnight, and even the Catastrophe Prediction System of the city was sabotaged so that the city fell victim to a Catastrophe just as the uprising began. What was broadcasted to the world as a simple riot turned into a bloody purge of Chernobog as the infected took their pound of flesh and then some from their tormentors. Innocent citizens were murdered indiscriminately, while the Infected who refused to participate were branded traitors. The Yetis and Patriot's followers did their best to maintain order, but the butchery would not stop.

In the span of a few hours, the Imperial Military's presence in Chernobog was wiped out, and the symbol of Reunion was emblazoned on the face of government buildings.

The world watched, shocked, as one of the premiere military powers of the world was humiliated in one of the most devastating losses in the empire's history.

This show of defiance was exactly what Reunion needed to boost their message across the world as fear of the Infected grew. Anyone could be Reunion. Anyone could take up the mask and wear their symbol. In response, many turned on their infected neighbors, feeding the hatred that Reunion now subsisted on. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy. in fear of revolution, these people had fed its fires, and now the world would reap what it sowed. The ghosts of generations cried in hate, and their descendants raised the banner of Reunion against a world that had given them nothing but torment.

For a moment, Reunion seemed unstoppable.

Their next target was the neighboring city-state of Great Lungmen. Here, Skullshatterer died in combat against the Lungmen Guard Department and Rhodes Island during the opening stages of the war. The people of the Infected Slums had not been as receptive as expected towards Reunion, and while the loss of one of their leaders stung, the operation continued nonetheless. The Possessed and Phantoms took Lungmen by storm, pushing the LGD back until Rhodes Island intervened and cornered both Faust and Mephisto, while Crownslayer went missing in action. This sudden change in fortune necessitated a strategic retreat from Lungmen, and the Yetis arrived to ensure the survival of their nominal allies. Yet, more hidden enemies halted Reunion in its tracks. Faust died covering the retreat of Reunion and the Infected from the slums, as black ops squadrons from Lungmen dubbed "Black Raincoats" began purging the slums of Infected regardless of their innocence. It is reported that the sewers were thick with infected bodies that day. Faust's death further demoralized Reunion forces in the vicinity, and outright broke Mephisto's morale. Were it not for FrostNova taking control, no Infected would have lived to see the next day.

The Yetis held their ground in a last stand against the combined forces of the LGD, the Black Raincoats, and Rhodes Island. FrostNova was the last woman standing on her side of the conflict, but she perished soon after despite a display of Originium Arts that would feel right at home in a ancient saga. The Yetis sold their lives dearly, and every second they held the line was one more innocent saved from the purge of the Black Raincoats.

More than half of Reunion's forces had met their end that day, but their momentum did not reverse. In a seeming act of desperation, the Mobile City of Chernobog was on a collision course with Great Lungmen.

That however, was a story for another time.

Just got another question as well. Can I also RP as a city state too in addition to Rhodes Island? If it's fine, honestly I'd also like to try Bikini Bottom too or maybe even go further by doing the theoretical nation the city is located on. Though if you think it may not be allowed as it's a bit not serious, then I can think of another idea.

Honestly whatever you like works, though Bikini Bottom's pretty light-hearted compared to some of what's going on (and interactions might honestly be awkward given how spongebob is written out to be). Ultimately it's up to you though!

Full Nation Name : The Alpine Union - Der Alpenbund
Short Nation Name : The AU
Flag / National Symbols: A White-on-Red Cross, White-on-Red Triangle

Government Type : Federal Republic
Official Political Ideology : "Demo-Unionism": A political ideology combining the democratic ideals, along with many personal and political rights of the old Western world with restrictions of economic freedoms inspired by the Universal Union (Aka: The Combine). The government is still run democratically, with a constitution securing human and citzen rights, but the economy is in large parts kept strongly state-supervised.

Head of State : None
Head of Government : Bundesrat ("Federal Council", consisting of 8 equal positions. The primary executive organ of the AU.)
Government Description : Adhering mostly to the Swiss Confederacy of old, the government is made up of the Bundesversammlung ("Federal Assembly", consisting of two chambers) in the legislative, the Federal Council & its ministries in the executive and the Federal Constitutional Court and the judicial system in the judicial branch.

Territory : Officially most of the territory of the Swiss Confederation before the Combine invasion; practically, control over most lands outside the mountainous areas is weak, due to massive contamination of the land. Forces in these regions are only there to control the local biotic, necrotic and other exogen populations (aka: Xen fauna and flora). However, underground networks used by the Union and its citzens often also extend far below these areas.

Territorial Ambitions : No real territorial ambitions in the traditional sense, but wishes to reclaim the contaminated land and make it at least somewhat habitable again.

Capital City : Finsteraar, located inside/below the mountain Finsteraarhorn in the former canton of Bern.
Population : 9.3 million citzens (including certain sentient military vehicles and certain Xen refugees)
Majority/Official Culture : There is no official culture. The majority culture would be German-ish, followed by French-ish, then Italian-ish. The "-ish" signifies that after living underground for 40 years, the citizens of the AU do not usually identify with regular European nationalities or ethnic backgrounds, especially the younger generation.

Additionally, a small but certainly notable minority within the nation consists of formerly Xen inhabitants and rescued Combine vehicles, which have never had any associations with Earth cultures apart from the that of the AU.

Majority/State Religion : There is no official religion. However, most people within the nation are either non-religious or protestant Christians (with Lutheran and Reformed Protestantism sharing roughly equal halves of the Christian population).

Major Industries / Economic sectors: Major economic sectors include: Recycling (Everything from air to production materials), food production (mainly via advanced hydroponics), excavation, mining & underground construction (for obvious reasons), entertainment (sitting in an underground bunker all day having little to do is tedious af), electronics (totally did not copy some of the combine's stuff), healthcare (combine-copied medical tech yay).

Amount of Industrialization : Medium, for a country of its population, with very little heavy industry.

Economic Description : The economy is focused on autarky, and only as large as the Union itself can support as there have not been any exports or imports in the last 40 years. Little heavy industry as they simply have not been needing it.

Technological Level : PMT. Much of the Alpine Union's technology was copied or inspired by Combine tech over the years. While omitting most of the bio-cybernetic side of the Combine technology, AU computers have still advanced very rapidly (even using tiny amounts of organic material in certain processors). Their recycling tech is also very advanced, both in terms of material and atmospheric recycling. The latter, as well as their advanced hydroponics/food production also utilize adapted Xen wildlife.

Magic and other shenanigans? (If any exists) : If you count Vortigaunt shenanigans, although the Vorts living in the AU are a minority, and also far less adept at these shenanigans than their non-AU ethnic relatives. No real reason had ever been found for this.

Military Description - "Schildstreitkräfte" ("Shield Forces")

Army: Generally reffered to as "Landschild" ("Groundshield"), in inspiration of Combine namings. Formed by a core of professionals and bolstered by the compulsory military service each citizen must complete (although there are alternatives for people who don't want to go to the military or simply can't). They maintain the still quite substantial defenses of the AU, and conduct patrols/act as heavy response units on the surface, where their primary concern is keeping the exogen fauna and flora infesting the formerly Swiss countryside at bay and under control. For this purpose they operate a special division, although all units are trained in these tasks. Soldiers jokingly refer to it as "pest control".

Active Combat Personnel: 421 000
Reserves: 557 000 - Reserve Army

Ground Vehicles: [SUBJECT TO TWEAKING]

Tanks: 150
Infantry Carriers: 1500 (various types)
Other ground combat vehicles: 800 (various types)
Ground transport vehicles: 23000

Aerial Vehicles:

Aerial Combat Vehicles: 630 (various)
Aerial Transport Vehicles: 1200 (various)
Other Aerial Vehicles: 460 (various)

Navy: Does not exist. Literally nothing.

Air Force: Generally referred to as "Luftschild" ("Airshield"), also inspired by Combine names. Airshield is a mostly tactical air force, operating strike craft to assist ground forces when on dangerous missions in the countryside. Other than that, Airshield operates many drones for observation of problem areas that Groundshield might have to deal with. In terms of air superiority, it mostly relies on a medium contingent of interceptor craft, and its anti-air defense grid.

Air Force ORBAT:

Active Personnel: 78000

Aerial Vehicles:

Aerial Combat Vehicles: 880 (various)
Aerial Transport Vehicles: 180 (various)

National goals: To preserve their independence and make their land not 'super lethal'/'absolutely uninhabitable' anymore.

History: Der Alpenbund - The Alpine Union

The Alpine Union is a so-called 'survivor state' - the only one on Earth, in fact. When the events of Black Mesa spiralled out of control and Xen creatures started to overrun the planet, the Swiss populace bunkered down in the nation's vast, expansive bunker systems. Adapting certain plants and substances from the Xen invaders, improvised indoor hydrofarms, air recycling stations and such technology became common to make life in bearable.

[Note: Instead of only lasting less than a year like in the original game, the portal storms and xen wildlife spreading on Earth before the combine invasion went on for almost 4 years in this timeline. It also differs in other aspects slightly from the Half Life timeline.]

After several years, conditions outside were considered very hostile, so the reclamation of the Swiss land progressed only slowly. However, this would prove a stroke of luck. For while most of the world was rebuilding and distracted, the Combine, the Universal Union, invaded the planet, taking down its already precariously overtaxed military defenses in a mere two days. The Swiss, however, quite literally bunkered up, were considered no threat by the Combine invasion force, in addition to the land they were living in being one of the worst contaminated on Earth.

Shortly after the surrender of all Earth forces apart from the Swiss, the Combine deemed the biotic, necrotic and other exogen contaminations of the territory formerly belonging to the Swiss Confederacy as unrecoverable, delcaring the entire region an exclusion zone. Apart from occasional Combine flyovers, the garrison force would leave the Swiss people in their now ever-growing bunker networks alone. They, in turn, dedicated their efforts downwards, into the mountains and the Earth's crust.

It has been almost 40 years since the Combine invaded Earth and the Swiss Confederacy went underground - quite literally. Now called the Alpine Union, though operating on many of the same principles as before, the nation has adapted to living so close (relatively speaking) with an interdimensional empire, adopting Combine-inspired technology, architecture, military uniforms and even insignia.

To the Combine this signals that it would be only a matter of time until the AU would integrate peacefully with the Universal Union, but this is not the case. These outward resemblances to the Combine serve the Alpine Union as a figurative chamaeleon skin, in order to be left alone.

However, the relatively calm coexistence of the two entities slowly started to dissolve several years prior. In roughly 35 AI (After Invasion), it was revealed that the Alpine Union might be sheltering Vortigaunts and the likes - though the Earth garrison had their hands full and so decided not to investigate. However, as the grip of the Combine Overwatch on Earth started to slip, the AU became more and more supportive of the rebels.

Now, in the year 39 AI, the rebels, led by one Gordon Freeman, assault the biggest bastion of the Combine on Earth - the Citadel in City 17. Its destruction, though, should prove to have unintended consequences for the entire Alpine nation.

Hmmm, honestly something of the matter could work. I for one am totally up to asking and answer questions from both an IC and OOC perspective.

Now I'm tempted to go Burgundy, hah!

Honestly, that European empire is sitting on a lot of very interesting land... I'm going to see if I can make a concept work with Iceland, maybe an SSSS-inspired postapocalyptic state of sorts...
