Majority/Official Culture : The vast majority of people in the Commonwealth identify as Han Chinese, but there are numerous enclaves of ethnic minorities scattered throughout the nation.
Majority/State Religion: After years of exponential growth, Christianity had become the largest religion in the Commonwealth, comprising at least 60% of the population. The rest mostly follow traditional Chinese religions.
Major Industries / Economic sectors: Mining and ore processing; iron and steel; aluminum; coal; machinery; armaments; textiles and apparel; petroleum; cement; chemical; fertilizers; food processing; automobiles and other transportation equipment including rail cars and locomotives, ships, and aircraft; consumer products including footwear, toys, and electronics; telecommunications and information technology; robotics and artificial intelligence.
Amount of Industrialization: In the Earth from which the Commonwealth hails from, it is one of the most industrialized nations. As such, it has achieved a level of industrialization equal to the United States or Western Europe.
Economic Description: While the people of China had lived in poverty for most of its history, the economic might and capitalist ways of the Commonwealth by the year 2050 has given it the position of having the second gross domestic product in the planet, following the United States by a very close margin. Its economy is highly capitalist in nature, though the government maintains strict regulations to protect worker rights and the environment.
Technological Level: Post Modern Technology
Magic and other shenanigans? (If any exists) : Certain individuals, called metahumans, are documented to gain supernatural abilities through a mutation in their genes that activates in times of extreme stress.
Military DescriptionThrough close economic and military cooperation with the United States and the Russian Federation, the Commonwealth achieved superpower status, though it was still behind the other two great powers in terms of military might. The Commonwealth Military has an aggressive doctrine that calls for high mobility and versatility; as a result, Commonwealth vehicles are often more lightly armored than their counterparts in both Earth or any of the other worlds that humans have settled. They make up their lesser durability with higher volumes of firepower and versatility, which is embodied in the transforming vehicles that all three branches of the Commonwealth forces use. In addition, because of the Commonwealth's reliance on the sea for international trade, it has special emphasis on the navy and air force.
Army: The ground based forces of the Commonwealth are often synonymous with their navy and airforce, as their mainline battle tanks are fully amphibious and the mecha that are often seen fighting alongside their infantry are capable of turning into aircraft in turn. Many of the vehicles in the Commonwealth's disposal are two in one war machines that switch between from one form to another when the situation calls for it.
The army usually functions as a defensive force, though it is fully capable of conducting grand offensives as well. Its infantry core is not as well trained as their counterparts in the other two great powers, but they make up for this with greater numbers. Their primary infantry weapon are kinetic burst carbines that fire superheated slugs in short bursts, which causes burns and severe lacerations on unprotected targets.
- 1.8 million active personnel, 5.6 million reservists. The army possesses no less than 120 divisions, half of which are armored divisions.
A standard Commonwealth mechanized division possesses:
- 15,000 infantry
- 250 Lieren Amphibious Main Battle Tanks
- 270 Mechas
> 120 Striker/Chopper Bot (anti-armor mecha/anti-surface helicopter)
> 150 Star Drakes/Earth Drakes (anti-infantry mechas/anti-air jet)
- Two Reconnaissance Teams
- 100 Mobile Railgun Carriers
- 50 Mobile Rocket Launcher System
Navy: The Navy is the national pride of the Commonwealth, being the most prestigious and powerful of the three branches. The reliance of the Commonwealth on the sea for international has caused it to focus on its navy. It possesses a total of 11 naval groups, though some are undermanned or missing some vessels due to the casualties it had sustained during the Third World War, or the difficulty of maintaining certain ship classes, such as battleships and carriers.
A standard battle group (of which seven exist) possesses the following vessels:
- 2 Huo Xi Class Battlecruisers
- 3 Hellfire Class Heavy Missile Cruisers
- 5 Defender Class Multipurpose Destroyers
- 100 mini subs (two man submersibles armed with mini torpedoes)
- 75 Sky/Sea Wings (transforming anti-air single man submarines/ anti-surface aircraft)
- 10 Seeker Class Escort Submarines
The remaining four naval groups are carrier strike groups, which are supposedly composed of:
- 3 Phoenix Class Aircraft Carriers (total capacity of 35 piloted aircraft and 150 UAVs)
- 1 Imperial Class Helicopter Carrier (capacity of 50 Striker/Chopper Bots)
- 10 escort submarines
- 100 mini subs
- 50 Sky/Sea Wings
- 5 Defender Class Multipurpose Missile Destroyers
- 2 Hellfire Class Heavy Missile cruisers
In total, the navy possesses;
- 12 Huo XI Class Battlecruisers
- 10 Phoenix Class Aircraft Carriers
- 3 Imperial Class Helicopter Carriers
- 40 Hellfire Class Missile Cruisers
- 1,100 mini subs
- 56 Seeker Class Submarines
- 750 Sea/Sky Wings
- 71 Defender Class Multipurpose Destroyers
- ~800 coastal patrol craft
- ~200 minesweepers
In addition to the standard forces of the navy, the Commonwealth also maintains highly valuable and powerful assets in the name of the defence of the homeland:
- 3 Gigafortresses (transforming aerial/aquatic fortresses)
- 7 floating fortresses (massive naval platforms the size of small islands located in strategic locations in the territorial waters of the Commonwealth)
Air Force: The air force of the Commonwealth is also a force to be reckoned with, though it is often tied with the navy and army due to the dual nature of many of their vehicles. The airforce is thus a strange thing to classify; some would argue that the aerial forces of the Commonwealth are mere extensions of the army and the navy, while some say that it is an entirely different entity.
However, the arguments to the latter are more found, as the air forces of the Commonwealth include several flying fortresses (which are much smaller than the floating fortresses found at sea) that protect key cities in the nation, as well as a significant amount of airships capable of high altitudes. These airships in turn deploy squadrons of jets and flight form mechas, as they are much more lightly armed than their naval counterparts.
National Goals :Weather the possible collapse of society due to the ISOT; take the lands it deems to be rightfully belonging to the Commonwealth.
History : The roots of the Chinese Commonwealth would be laid down in the wake of the Chinese Nationalists' victory against the Red Army. The Communists are surrounded by the Nationalists in the middle of their march north and decimated to oblivion with no mercy, preventing the formation of another Communist great power. In the following years, hundreds of thousands of suspected communists would either be executed or imprisoned. The Nationalists then proceed to form the Chinese Commonwealth, though true democracy would not come for the next few decades as the leader of the Kuomintang, Chiang Kai Shek, would rule the nation as a single party state until his death.
Despite this, however, China would industrialize far earlier than it did in the original timeline. By the 1970s, it had become a powerful industrialized state that cooperated with the United States in many ways, aiding it in containing Communism into the Soviet Union and destroying North Korea utterly, allowing for Korea to unite under the government of the south. The Commonwealth would then keep on its status as a resurgent power in the world for the years to come.
In the 1990's, the USSR collapsed, leaving a (for real) democratic government to take power in Russia with the covert aid of the Chinese Commonwealth. The resulting Russian Federation inherited the power of the Soviet Union and all of its problems, but it would recover economically with help from its neighbour in the south.
In 2047, war broke out between India and the Chinese Commonwealth over disputed territories. It is here that the Chinese unveiled the new generation of transforming vehicles. With the help of their new weapons, China was able to win, though both sides sustained heavy casualties. Still, the Chinese Commonwealth would be known for its highly versatile mecha forces, and Russia and the United States attempted to procure transformer mechas of their own, though the Commonwealth refused to give up its secrets.
In 2064, the Third World War broke out due to the flare-up of tensions between the Western powers and the renewed aggression of Russia into Eastern Europe and the Middle East with the backing of the Commonwealth. In addition, hyper nationalist states sprung up on Korea and Japan and other East Asian nations, pitting the belligerents into three camps: the Western Allies, the Sino-Russo Concord, and the third, the Eastern Coalition, composed of most of South East Asia, Korea, and Japan.
It was also in this war that metahumans first appeared, most often the results of experiments made by the belligerent nations in an attempt to subdue their rivals. However, these individuals would often be absorbed into their intelligence agencies as operatives and agents.
After five years of conflict, the war had grounded into a stalemate, with Eastern Europe now firmly entrenched in Russian influence while the West maintained an unbreakable cordon in Germany's eastern border. In the East, Korea's exiled democratic government returned to power and the Japanese dictator was thrown out by a revolution. The northern part of China had seceded, while the south remained firmly in the hands of the Commonwealth. However, the borders of the world now resembled the past...
