Strala wrote:OP can we make it that getting a higher stat in magic costs more points than other stats? I always viewed magic as this rare gift that takes decades to master completely with very few ever getting there. If you can app as a character that's already a master mage, what's the point of being a noble? Unlike fighting and archery which can't destroy entire armies and cities, magic can, and once you reach that level, you are bound to become extremely well treated. Most of the nobility can not treat you poorly in fear of having their entire family line being wiped out. Even royalty have to treat you decently or else you could destroy his or her armies and cities.

Yeah, once you reach above five points in a stat, you have to use two points to level it up again.

Fireball, healing, ward. The basics.

That still feels OP unless this character is middle aged at least in his forties. Wouldn't that take at least two or three points?

Well, you'd need to know how to use the bow or whatever else you summoned. You can summon items, but you can't magically know how to use them.

It is not instant. She would know the spells, but the huge, army killing and city sinking ones would take weeks, even months to prepare, and would need to be perfect, lest they backfire on the caster.

What would happen if someone has a five in fighting, riding, or archery? What about six points, seven points, or even eight points.

Fireball, at one point, can only go about a foot before puttering out. Healing can only heal very minor wounds, like scratches, and ward could prevent a single blow. If he gets a higher stat in magic, the spells get more powerful.

After every five points, the price goes up. It costs two points for every level after five, three for every level after ten, four for fifteen, and so one and so forth.

I know that. I meant what are you capable of if you add that many points into a stat?

Well, you're still just an average human, so if you add a ton of points into fighting, you can still get hit by arrows, fire, etc, you'll just be an absolute terror on the battlefield. It your great at riding, you just do better on horse. In archery, you'd be a literal sniper, but that won't stop someone from using a tower shield to get up close and stick a blade in you. You can be a nigh unstoppable mage, but using magic will tire you and make you more vulnerable.

I've gone ahead and edited my app with the new stat rules and added a bit extra to her bio somewhat explaining how she's such a skilled mage at her age.

I somehow made Maksym, like, really awkward when he interacts with other people.
Well, he was written by me, so...everything is going to be awkward.

I'm definitely going to try to get a post up tomorrow. I'm sorry for being extremely inactive. School has been busy recently.

Well, I'd be a bit awkward too if I was suddenly recruited into an elite company called the Company of Black-Hearts on my first day in a city.

Yeah...would anyone know what to do in that situation? Spies and Chuck Norris excluded.

After reading through the IC I think I'll be skipping this RP and revoking my character.

Phaenix, I was wondering why you have been refering to Aval as Arval in some of your recent posts. Is it intentional for some reason I am unaware of, or is it simply a minor mistake?
What happens when one combines the Baltic States, interstellar technology, vast amounts of wealth, and moderate Social Democratic policies?
Well besides an absolute mess, Zedeshia!

Oh, my mistake. I read his name as 'Arval' and I've been using it ever since. Sorry.

It’s perfectly fine. I was simply curious.
