The sun would rise in the west and the Huang would witness something that they had never seen before.Great herds of cattle coming from the east, the Huang where astonished. These creatures seemed similar to the water buffalo that the Huang relied on has a food source, but altogether different. Qing and the rest of the warriors where excited at the chance to hunt such majestic beasts and eager to find out what they tasted like. They would all be scolded by Ming the wise woman and told to aim their arrows at other animals and not to harm the cows that where now grazing on the verdant and green grasses that surrounded Zhai Cheng. No one disrespected Ming not if they valued their lives.

"I do not know why these creatures have come but they represent an opportunity, Lin come we shall learn of these beasts" Ming says motioning the young scholar to follow her.Lin would bow and follow her grandmother to observe the cattle from a respectful distance and learn and possibly gain their trust.

"Maybe one of those cows is the reincarnated form of that old crone Suyin! " Tao says hitting Qing on the arm as both of the old men howled with laughter memories of Suyin and her constant nagging and disciplining of them when they were mere boys.

The women of the clan would give the men the stink eye at the both of them, and they would tone it down but they couldn't help snickering and making jokes of mean old Suyin for the rest of the day.

It was a new day. Song was catching fish with a bone spear in the Yu River along with her clan members. She was gorgeous with long flowing black hair, beautiful eyes, and a graceful body. She thinks back to the day that harlot had come.Han was a normally quiet and stoic man, .Song was boisterous and extroverted chattering everyone's ear off and laughing often.Ming often commented that Han and Song were two sides of the same element. Like yin and yang they balanced and complemented each other.

Imagine her surprise when that strange red-headed woman from the west would seduce Han.Song watched the harlot like a hawk, but she couldn't be everywhere at once. When she found out she smacked both Han and Jana in the face and cursed a thousand curse words in the Huang tongue. She knew that Han was too shy to make the first move, but she couldn't believe that he would allow himself to be seduced. She also couldn't believe that Jana who was married to that warrior would act so dishonorably it made her sick, did bonds and sacred oaths mean nothing to these two fools?

Song would nearly break her marriage to Han. Han would try to comfort her and get on his knees to apologize to her. She cursed at him and told him basically to fuck off. It was rare to see a man cry but Han did when it seemed he lost the love of his life.In the end she touched the waters of the Yu River and looked at the reflection of the moon.In Huang culture the moon and waters were yin and yang. They pushed and pulled and on each other and complemented each other always in perfect harmony.

She thought back to how Han would make her laugh and the good times they had with each other. The next day she would approach Han and he would beg for her forgiveness. She raised her hand and said:

"You are a foolish and stupid man,but thinking back to how you made me laugh and for the sake of our children I will forgive you just this once" She says. The strong, well built worker would promise never to do anything that stupid again. They kissed and embraced but she put her finger on his chest and looked him in the eye.

"Don't you ever cheat on me again,or next time I will remove the problem!" She says.

Saladon Nomads
2nd year on the western plain
It was decided then. All the adults within their humble group gathered around a great circle. Many were pleased by the prospects of this land. It's central and powerful position within the plains. It was decided then, this would be their home.

Varrus had spent wandering these plains for a place to call home, he found many lands and verdant plains. He found them hospitable, but wondered if that would be enough for his family- he thought until he found this great land.

The land beared mighty oaks and tranquil streams. Beautiful emeralds, but strange birds. If there was a heart to the plains this would be the land pumping veins of water throughout the plains.

It was this, why he choose this land. It was a land of promise and opportunity, which is why he needed to claim it for his people before the strangers in the north took hold of it. Perhaps they could see about joining their humble land, but they dare not risk interacting with the strange men.

As the people settled into their new land, they continued their work. Instead of the normal hides, spears we're made. Ensuring their tribes safety from the foreigners. As for Fara and Matilda, they sought to make horseback riding more comfortable for their tribe. Ensuring that both the horses and they would be in comfort.

Whether all is well on the plains is yet to be seen, depending on the actions of their fellow men of Saladon. Whether they choose to coexist or fight for the verdant plains remains to be seen.

The tribe settles into the valley, having found their true home.

The Sons of Corvus, Year 44

Image

A good year, once again. There is plentiful food for all, and industry and progress marches steadily forward!

A great quantity of Soulstone (as Cavon calls it) is produced, and Janon and Lopen spend the year huddled around the fire, hammering and melting and pouring and pounding away at the new creations. Two fine knives are created, and then given to Old Juna and Janon's wife, Cara. These creations are suitable weapons for the reliable farmers, made to mow down ears of the vast fields of barley-wheat that surround them. Janon also emerges with a mighty Soulstone pick, one that will not shatter and bend like the Sunsetstone one he had before. Likewise, Lia spends the year working to derive the secrets of the Horned Bow - the creation of the Huang that can launch an arrow further than that of their simple bows. A complex meld of bone, horn, and wood - the Corvidians will surely be prepared for any threat that marches upon the hill-settlement once this tool is mastered.

Beyond industry, other triumphs are made this year. A new son is born to Janon and Cara this year! A healthy young fellow, much like the other. Janon proudly names him Jaron Stonebreaker, though it is far too early to deem the lad a sturdy worker. Janon and Lupen's children fill the camp, their young voices eager and excited. The future belongs to the Stonebreaker family, it seems.

There are, of course, notes of unhappiness - such is life. The new plot of wheat is laid to waste by a hot winter wind, as it was not expanded and grown to withstand such ill tidings. Corvin rebukes Janon for his impatience - he had urged his nephew to expand the plot further or task it to his wife before crafting the new pick, but Janon assured him that it would be fine. Alas, fate did not decree so. However, this is not a devastating loss, merely an irritation and inconvenience.

Corvan cannot help but scowl when his wife's oldest son joins them on the hunt this year. Little Corhan is just like any other child in the village, asides from the fact that he looks like one of Lia and Lopen's progeny. Jet black hair and strange eyes. A constant reminder of his wife's infidelity. Jana claimed that the Huang man had made advances, and that Cavon had suggested the importance of fresh blood in the tribe. While decent excuses, they were excuses nonetheless. Corvan quietly whispers to his cousin Juvon that perhaps it would be best if he adopt the child and make up a story - he will never let little Corhan become chief, despite the child technically being his oldest son. Juvon accommodates his cousin's request more out of pity than anything, though pretending to accept it in exchange for the finest cuts of meat from Corvan's hunt this year as to preserve his pride. Juvon and Lia make up a tale for little Corhan about how he is their son, explaining his strange looks. They claim that they simply did not wish to be married any longer, and that they were not ready to take care of the young boy. It is a bold-faced lie, but Juvon wishes to have a son and Corvan wishes to cast one away. For the good of the tribe, such stories are told.

Lopen takes the name Crafter after his success in creating the knives. Janon enjoys the Second Name serving to demonstrate one's prowess or skills, and he eagerly endorses Lopen's decision. Cavon weighs in with support of the decision, and Corvin begrudgingly accepts it. "These names are unnecessary. It is not as if there are too many people and not enough names to distinguish them! Such a thing will never happen." the elderly chief complains to his brother. But if the tribe wishes to adopt this custom, so be it. The one stipulation is that only men will pass down their name, as to not cause conflict or confusion in the future.

Juvon takes a second name as well, "Soulspeaker", upon Cavon's suggestion. The elderly wise man knows that he will join the ancestors soon, and he imparts upon Juvon the wisdom of listening to dreams and omens. Corhan takes this name as well.

In the following year, the tribe attempts to complete their current progress. Janon goes back to recreate the destroyed plot - the ruts he has planted are still there, so hopefully it will be faster this year. His wife ceases her harvesting to aid him this year. Ideally, they will be able to expand it to the point where a single foul event will not destroy the year's labors. Lopen continues to spend time at the forge, churning out more tools for the tribe. Such creations are the way of the future.

Ceston (M, Scout, 56) (Equipped: Sling, Three Wolves) continues on the hunt once more. (Hunt Gazelle)
Corvin (M, Warrior, 60) (Equipped: Simple Bow, Three Wolves) continues on the hunt. (Hunt Gazelle)

Conan Stonebreaker (M, Trainee Warrior, 10) joins the hunt this year, helping his uncles carry the catch. (Hunt Gazelle)

Cavon (M, Spirit-Guide, 60) spends the year poking at yams and playing with the grandkids. (Research: Yam Comprehension)
Juvon Soulspeaker (M, Spirit-Guide, 39) looks at the work-knives, and decides that surely there is a better tool for the harvest. (Research: Sickle)

Cora Hunter (F, Spirit-Guide, 19) aids her uncle with the curved blade. (Research: Sickle)
Corhan Soulspeaker (M, Trainee Spirit-Guide, 7) helps his "parents" in their research, learning of the Four Aspects and the realm of the dead. (Research: Yam Comprehension)

Juna (F, Worker, 60) (Equipped: Bronze Workknife) gathers wheat from the plot. (Gather Wheat)
Lopen Crafter (M, Worker, 32) attempts to craft a hammer from the Soulstone, in order to more quickly create tools and weapons from the precious stone. (Create Bronze Hammer. If this does not take the entire year, create another bronze work-knife) (Technique: Sandcasting) (-1 or 2 Malachite)
Janon Stonebreaker (M, Worker, 36) (Equipped: Bronze Pickaxe) digs out the second plot of wheat once more. (Create Second Planting)
Cara Stonebreaker (F, Worker, 32) (Equipped: Copper Workknife) works with her husband to establish the second planting once more. (Create Second Planting)
Jana Hunter (F, Worker, 35) (Equipped: Bronze Workknife) gathers wheat from the planting. (Gather Wheat)
Cana Stonebreaker (F, Trainee Worker, 11) works the fields. (Gather Wheat)
Jane Stonebreaker (F, Trainee Worker, 7) works with her sister and mother. (Gather Wheat)

Coran Hunter (M, 5) swings sticks and bares his teeth.
Lopan Crafter (M, 4) plays with the dogs in the mud.
Lian Crafter (M, 3) tags along with his older brother.
Lana Crafter (F, 3) begins to speak her first words.
Jaron Stonebreaker (M, 0) cries and eats.

Cara and Janon attempt for a child.
Lopen and Lia attempt for a child.
Corvan and Jana attempt for a child, likely for the last time.

Any stored food is consumed, extra food is stored.

The Pennenthelli

Another year of blessing seemed to come upon the Pennethelli, but this seeming divine benevolence was quickly proven false in Venvild screams and long, bloody delivery. The boy was healthy and with weak lips, Ven named him Roekar as her beloved bondmate Ahleth close by her, gently caressing her sweaty cheeks as the Scholars were preparing warm water and bedding her down in warm furs in the tent. These damn tents, Avunan tought as he carried yet another pot of boiled water inside, it was about time they had some proper dwellings, but that would have to wait, he had a daughter-by-bond to cure and nurse back to health, but then he had one last wish that his son would have to carry out, he would make Ahleth swear upon it. As the scholars were hard at work providing Venvild with all the earthly medical treatment the Pennenthelli knew, the rest of the tribe prayed for her safe convalescence between taking their meal, socializing and making sure the day-to-day activities of their small settlement continued, food was even more important when sombody was beset by foul, diseased spirits for food provided the fuel needed for the body to burn them out. And a great trial was coming upon the tribe soon, the Riverlanders had in no round-about way said that they hoped for Pennenthelli aid when the time came for them to return to the north whence they came. It seems war would be upon the tribe soon. Perhaps one last great battle to truly send a mighty fighter like Henimen to a proper grave in the eyes of the war-spirits, one last hurrah for the old gray war-wolf who was still freakishly strong and sinewy despite his age. In the mean-time, it would give Ronan a chance to shine in the eyes of both gods and men.

Year Forty-Four ends...

The mountains burn. After a series of heavy storms, the woodlands of the conifer forests near the People of Heaven kindle, great blazes sweeping the valley for days, tearing like living things that wish to devour through branch, canopy, and underbrush. The Manisaharu barely flee with their lives to the treeless heights, where their lungs fill with smoke and they shiver with cold. Two of their beasts panic and flee in the escape, and Kashish and Amidan come down with consumptive coughs on account of the foul air.

Warclyfe: The tribe has enough to eat. Their laborers tear more copper from the soil, to be turned into the valuable god-metal once the shrine has regained her power. There is also progress on the front of woodworking; techniques and tools cut from the earth and stone which plane wood more easily into planks, for use upon the briny depths which the Warclyfe intend to master. Labor, it seems, is their primary constraint, and now that their methods are no longer so primitive, constructing a simple vessel of boards seems plausible, not a flight of fancy.

The Deepkin
Kharbarinth: There is a great bounty for all, and some are even beginning to grow fat on the land. The labor upon the einkorn field is progressing, though far from completion. Laika fails to capture any pigs. Cynthia and Valerie bear children, two beautiful pale rosy-faced girls. Jarn and Adrius have made great strides in understanding the strange growing cycle of the winter wheat, which is planted when other crops are harvested, and grows best in spring. Now, perhaps, it will flourish under the tribe's care.

Stalheim: There is more than enough food for all now. In a flourishing of spring, the einkorn and squash plantings are faring well, colonizing new stretches along the river. Tanya and Emilia bear children, Tanya a girl by a difficult pregnancy which requires medical ministrations, Emilia much more easily with a slightly ugly redheaded girl.

North of northeast Alexander travels, out along the wild coasts. Here to both north and west sandy beaches stretch, and thence azure waters, while plains roll elsewhere. The land is vacant of men, but filled with wooly sheep that graze along the shores. Deep purple amethysts can be found in the waters here, and great outcroppings of stone so black it appears to drink in the very light.

The Corvidians: There is more than enough food this year - such is bounty of the land. The fine Horned Bow is now the province of the Corvidians, not only their former allies - a new weapon which sings when it is plucked, and shoots far and true. A new wheat planting has been simply enough established, the first shoots showing by the new spring, and a new bronze hammer is prepared. The process of making the hammer is somewhat slower than anticipated, as the tribe has no good timbers for the haft and so Lopen must search some distance for the right material, but it is ready for use by autumn's onset nonetheless, with some Soulstone left over. No children bless the tribe this year.

The Huang: There is ample food in Zhaicheng. The cherry trees have, at last, taken to the soil of the blessed land, and their first saplings are beginning to grow. Song bears a baby boy, a much beloved gift of the tribe.

The men and women investigating the bloodstone have made a breakthrough - they believe, even with the furnaces and the charcoal, that their fires are not hot enough. The lumps they retrieve from the fires are shot through with soot, brittle and crumbling under even a few blows, but the few pieces that burn hottest seem clean of these impurities. A method to deliver more air to the fire, so it can burn hot and swift, must be devised.

The Riverlanders: The people eat well, and three simple bows are prepared for the warriors. The scholars also report good progress in their comprehension of the methods of medicine which the Pennenthelli espouse.

The Pennenthelli: Vast is the harvest of both flesh and fruit of the people, and none want for anything. Venvild has recovered from her illness, the strength returning to her body, and moreover the maize planting is growing strong, new shoots along the river a welcome sight.

The Nirari Band: The people eat well. A worthy composite bow is taking shape, carefully and lovingly molded from bone and branch, to slay any who might threaten the band or mighty animals to feed hungry bellies. No children are born this year.

Unicorns are feisty beasts, difficult to tame and harder still to convince simply not to gore a man when he approaches. But through long acclimatization, through nights spent sleeping near the herd, through many bribes and the offers of more food for compliance, Isrid has finally managed to convince a pair of the noble beasts to allow him close enough to stroke and feed them by hand. They accept his presence in their own herd, and this is well indeed.

The Saladonian Nomads: There is not enough food for all to eat this year, a unwelcome development for the men of Saladon. Chana alone, thankfully, takes ill, the hardy constitution and warm cloaks of the tribe fending off the worst of the winter chill. A decent quantity of timber is gathered for spear-shafts, but no spear are completed yet. Adney bears a healthy son as the summer heat envelopes the land.

North of the encampment, marching alongside the familiar mountains, plains roll. There are no people here, but hard rock deep and gray. Wolves can be found here, loping after great deer with majestic antlers.

Northeast of east, up into the mountains, Anatoly roams. To his surprise he finds foot-paths worn into the rocks, though no signs of men, and here and there caves have old firepits. Bright red berries grow high on these mountains, up near the snows, and taste repulsive but fill a man with vitality. Pale gray stone laces these cliffs, cliffs of pale white rock.

So one year ends, and perhaps another begins... many feel a time of change approaches, a time of new ideas under the sun...

Saladon Nomads
3rd year on the western plain
Last year was rough on the men of Saladon, the sudden change from nomadic to sedentary was a rough one. Finding the transition rougher than they imagined. However, they were not dissuaded by this struggle, investing more into gathering food than ever before.

As the tribe majorly concerned about their struggle for vegetation. Varrus ventured far south to the desertlands, seeking out the cave, Anatoly saw long ago. The reason, specifically was to find something of great value, but really his wanderlust was calling out to him. Regardless if he could find a boon or blessing, it would be a great boon to the tribe.

Chana tries to rest and recover from her returned illness. Anatoly covers for her tasks in hopes of giving her the ease of rest and recovery. Unburdened by the sense of duty. Regardless life goes on, on the verdant plains.
Varrus and Fara are companions
Chana and Anatoly are companions
Gawys and Adney are companions

It was the end of an era and the beginning of something new, something grand though the people of Zhai Cheng did not know it.Life continued onwards, tribesmen continued cultivating the plantings, hunters hunted beasts to fill the stomachs of their kindred, and wise men and wise women continued learning of the mysteries of the world.Deep down they all felt a stirring, that something of enormous change was to happen at some undetermined point in time but they did not know when it would happen nor would they stop laboring to ponder the possibilities. Besides fish wouldn't catch itself, and crops wouldn't pick themselves either, nor would the bloodstone just give up it's secrets oh no, they would continue working hard and working together to make sure their future is bright.

Qing was old, but even in his age he was still muscular and well-built, his tanned skin shining in the light of the sun, covered in scars from the animals he hunted to bring food to his people. He was a strong and fearsome warrior but he knew his time was soon coming to an end.He would give the composite bow, a powerful weapon that had fell many a mighty water-buffalo for years to his student Xing.Xing held the keen bow in his hands and bowed to his master.

"Remember to fight with honor!" Qing said to the young warrior.Xing bowed once more and said "I will".With that said the rest of the clan would wish the migrants farewell. They would journey to new lands and stake out their own claims under Heaven. The journey would not be easy, but they felt that this had to be done. They would always show their thanks to the ancestors, and they would always return to Zhai Cheng to honor them,no matter what the future may bring.

Every year is spent praying to, and showing filial piety to the ancestors
Filial piety is given to the elders through respect, love and care

Liu Ming (Female|Scholar) - Continues trying to domesticate the cattle, giving them spare potatoes and jadegrass if there is any left over [Cattle Domestication]
Liu Tao (Male|Scholar) - Continues researching sericulture and will continue to do so for the rest of his days [Advancing Sericulture]
Liu Zhang (Male|Scholar) - Tries to develop a method to deliver air to the fires when working iron [Ironworking]
Liu Lin (Female|Scholar) - Tries to develop a method to deliver air to the fires when working iron [Ironworking]
Liu Xiaotong (Male|Scholar)- Continues tending the cotton planting with diligence and love [Cotton Comprehension]
Liu Xiang (Female|Scholar) - Continues tending the rice planting with diligence and love [Protorice Comprehension]
*Everyone else focuses on food*
*Song and Han seek another child
Xiang and Xiaotong seek another child
Hua and Chao seek another child*

Liu Xing (Male|Warrior) - Armed with a composite bow, migrates to new lands with his wife and clan members. Will hunt and provide for his people on the journey.
Liu Lan(Female|Scout) - Leads the settlers to new lands.
Liu Tang(Male|Scholar) - Migrates to new lands.Brings a medicinal poultice.
Liu Wu (Female|Worker) - Migrates to new lands.Brings some bitterroot seeds to plant in their new home.
The settlers will focus on survival while making the trek. Also they will if possible bring enough hide to craft two hide tents.

They'll arrive whenever if at all.

The Pennenthelli

Another year, a year that the aging chieftain felt would be a year of change for the Pennenthelli. He did not know how much time the Spirits have allowed him to stay in this world, but with a few winters, he would probably pass to the Afterlife, where he would once again meet his beloved bondmate Kathildra, lost to him in the bloody labor of childbirth so many years ago. He walked along the lazily winding river, a wide band of water cast in gold and shimmering color by the setting sun, setting for him perhaps, for the founders of the Pennethelli who had left their forested homeland in the south many years ago and settled next to the river that cut through the plains. There they had made their homes ever since, and soon, perhaps when his son Ahleth comes to lead the tribe they shall go back to the north, they shall replant the golden food, the sweet-berries in the land where the black snakes hunt, where Sundrop Ore can be found in great abundance and where crimson-red stone glitter near the waters, Ahleth had though they may be blood from all the creature the water-serpents have hunted, crystallized into shimmering stone. That would be their home, the Pennethelli would return to the place where one sad, lonely grave had been dug, by the old chief himself when he had been much younger and buried his daughter.

Ahleth had agreed to it, hell, he had sworn, on the departed spirits of his mother and the sister he never met. And he better do it lest they come haunt him later. But that was his son's future work, to pack their belongings and range out across the plains back to their first home. First there were things that needed doing. They were celebrating old Henimen's 60'th year, the man was eldest of the tribe, a grizzled warrior whose mane of gray hair and long gray beard carried testament to his many years upon this green earth. While old and thinner than he had been even ten winters ago, there was still, somehow a sinewy, spindly strength in his body, enough for him to go hunting with his long-time beloved bondmate Jenwin. She truly always had the heart of a wandered, a passion which Avunan had not let her pursue to her heart's content in the early years, though she had taught the Chief's younger son Tauhlor the ways of the ranger, even though he had spent most of his time in the settlement except when protecting Latozar and Hervath as they occasionally journeyed to the first home to carry sundrop ore back to their forge.

And of course, there was perhaps the most important trial yet ahead of them, one they would not face alone but side by side with a people they had come to accept as friends and take in during their time of need. These Riverfolk, the spirits of rot and death driven away now hungered for vengeance against the strange and blood-thirsty dog-men who had driven them southward. It was almost fitting in a more morbid interpretation of it at least, as one era ends, it ends with a great battle between the fighters of two bonded tribes to drive away an invader that cavorted with deadly bestial wolves. Perhaps their old warrior, clad in sunmetal armor at the head of the Pennethelli war-party would return home victorious or they would return with his body. It remained to be seen.

The man tapped the piece of stone with the heavy bronze hammer, sweat standing out on his forehead. It was only one of hundreds that he had laboriously malleted into place over the last few weeks, the others working just as hard as him.

A voice below interrupted his singleminded focus on the work - his wife's willowy tones, like water in a desert to a parched man.

"Supper!"

He grimaced, looking down at the fair haired black woman and then at his own dust-covered pelt. His sweat had combined with the dirt and stone powder from the quarry, streaked with some of the soot which was left over from the fracture mining process, to turn him both white and black with caked residue.

"I should probably go jump in the river first."

His wife wrinkled her nose and laughed, waving him away. That was the only further comment he required on how he must both look and smell.

A bit of cold water, clear and clean, refreshed both his spirit and his body. The season was trending towards autumn, and there was a strange anticipation in the air, almost as if there was a hidden lightning behind a cloud. Very odd. He shrugged his shoulders, reclothing himself, and trudged back towards the village for dinner.

The End of Year Forty Five, and the Dawn of Civilizations

A time of change, and turmoil. All tribes see strange lights at night, high in the air, ribbons of prismatic color which swirl about the stars. Over the lands of the Warclyfe, though, these auroras are particularly intense, filling men with wonder mixed with fear. What this sign might mean is hidden from even the most cunning of Tes'la's seers, but time, perhaps, will tell their meaning...

Warclyfe: There is more than enough food this year. The laborers of Tesla have hewn much copper from the ground, but the shrine of Tesla seems to still be recovering from the early rituals there worked - though hair stands on end near the shrine, and the scholars speak of a gathering power, the copper placed beneath the shrine's arch remains stubbornly mundane.

The Deepkin
Kharbarinth:There is a great bounty for all to feast upon. Bella has now entered the ranks of the Trained, those warriors with many scars and bruises from long months honing body and mind for combat. The einkorn field is only slightly irrigated, but perhaps will resist drought a bit better. A suit of hide armor, faced in bronze, has also been prepared, which Lorik now bears. Though no more pigs have been captured, the stone wall now completely enfolds the village, a formidable rampart of cracked rock mortared together with small wooden platforms where defenders may rally. Natalya bears a fair-haired boy in the height of summer, and the squash, blueberry, winter wheat, and maize cultivations are growing in scale.

Finally, better techniques for the honing of metal weapons, to use stone and oil and effort to sharpen and repair blades to cut and to bind tight the alloys which the Deepkin rely upon - this they have discovered. Moreover a small vessel is prepared, of beaten board cunningly planed and nails of fine bronze hammered tight, to ride over the deeps.

Stalheim: All eat enough, though there is not a great abundance. Alexander has not managed to capture any horses, but a fine suit of iron-scale armor has been prepared. Tanya bears a daughter, healthy and hale.

The Aederfolk: There is plentiful food in both settlements, a good harvest securing the needs of the people. Annwyn is still struggling beneath her illness, and one of the toddlers is deteriorating, but Elatha and the other child have recovered. Nimue bears a boy child, who comes forth ill, though her own labor is easy. The barely planting has been coaxed into colonizing new ground, a grand thing for the tribe.

The manners whereby soil might be prepared for life, and how to tend green and growing things - these methods the Aederfolk refine, and now perfect into proper Horticulture, whereby their fields and gardens may flourish.

The Khortuun: There is enough food this year - not overmuch, but enough, which is much better than not quite enough. The return of Ginnem and his new bride is a surprise for the people of the Khortuun, as is the speed of their return, but here at last is a sign that they are not alone in the world. And that is a good thing to know. The prickly pear and rope grass stands are expanding, though a blight has moved through the bean fields this year, killing off some of the weaker plants. No children bless the Khortuun.

Namsut's labors have been blessed - by long exposure and labor at teaching the camels the ways of the people, he convinces several beasts to consent to bear burdens of food up and down the lip of the canyon, bearing bundles of prickly pear thick with juice swiftly and easily in from the planting. These efforts of domestication, no doubt, will be of great use to the kindred.

The Huang: A great harvest is taken from soil and forest, enough that bellies groan with fullness. The departure of many sons and daughters to distant lands is a note both bitter and sweet for the people of Zhai Cheng, but the knowledge that they cast a light into the future is a good one, as is the news near the winter rains that the people have arrived and begun setting up a new settlement in safety. There is a slight sour note in this tapestry, the news that the bitterroot has failed to seed in the deep jungle, but otherwise all is well. No children bless the tribe this year.

The last piece of the puzzle - a primitive bellows which pumps air into the forge when smelting iron, and the bloom comes forth pure and easy to work, a marvel indeed. The might of iron the Huang now wield, as the ancestors foretold.

The Riverlanders: Home again. No men or monsters harass their long journey, and before long familiar vistas beckon once more. Elianna and Flynn, meanwhile, left behind, have mastered the treatments and tinctures which the Pennenthelli wield to cure their ill and wounded. No doubt this will aid the tribe.

The Pennenthelli: There is no lack of food for any man or woman, a great achievement for any tribe. Boots have been prepared, and armor too, to allow men to fight where blows might otherwise lay them low. The strawberry planting is expanding nicely, a boon for the Pennenthelli, but the maize planting has withered before a stiff hot west wind, perhaps a curse come from the withdrawal of those who bore it out of the north to their lands. Ellyn bears in the spring not one child, but two, beautiful girls with strange golden hair like enmeshed sunlight.

The Nirari Band: To strange countries the folk wander, to make new lives in new lands. The few unicorns they bring with them are a boon, consenting to bear light burdens as the Nirari travel far west to lands where mountains shadow the southern sun.

The Saladonian Nomads: The rhythms of the season have assumed more importance for the Saladonians, but this transition they make willingly, and with more hands to the labor, plentiful is the food the tribe now enjoys. Chana has recovered from her sickness. Far to the south Varrus roams, away from his companions over scorching plains, then down into the darkness. The caves he explores are intricate and narrow, but after nearly a day of crawling with a torch through the darkness, he emerges into a vast network of caverns far belowground. Amazingly there is water here, and life, mighty pine trees and strange creatures flourishing in the damp darkness, lit only by intermittent shafts of light which fall from far above.

So ends another year, and thus the cycle of the years...

The Sons of Corvus, Year 45

The year is good! The scholars have truly mastered the Horned Bow, stolen from the thoughts and minds of their former allies. The bitterroot planting grows thicker and stronger, and the new barley planting slowly expands beyond its carefully tended borders. There is more than enough to eat this year, with both elders and children having plenty to subside upon.

Lopen has a great triumph this year, holding it aloft to the sky for the ancestors to behold and admire. The hammer comes together - much slower than initially anticipated, due to the lack of good materials for the haft - but it comes together nevertheless. It is a third crucial step into the industry which will hopefully dominate their future, after the furnace and the soulstone. Corvin abdicates leadership of the tribe this year, stepping down in favor of his son. After his many years of struggle to keep his family safe, he is satisfied with his work. It is time for him to rest.

Cora departs with Ginnem the Desert Man this year. The tribe mourns her absence, but with her departure is the introduction of new friends and allies. It is a worthwhile trade, and the Desert Man promises to bring a bride in return in the coming years. It is the start of a friendship that may last hundreds of years, though the simple sons of Corvus do not know this.

Cavon has a dream this year. Thousands of lights and tents, spilling across the plains and illuminating them like a thousand fireflies. It is written in destiny - a wordless prophecy, spoken by the Great Spirit himself. It is their fate - to spread and grow, like the wheat they tend, into a thousand homes and hearths.

And so they will.

Ceston (M, Scout, 57) (Equipped: Sling, Three Wolves) continues on the hunt once more. (Hunt Gazelle)

Juvon Soulspeaker (M, Spirit-Guide, 40) looks at the work-knives, and decides that surely there is a better tool for the harvest. (Research: Sickle)
Lia Crafter (F, Spirit-Guide, 29) works with her associate to perfect the curved knives. (Research: Sickle)
Corhan Soulspeaker (M, Trainee Spirit-Guide, 8.) helps his "parents" in their research, learning of the Four Aspects and the realm of the dead. (Research: Yam Comprehension)

Juna (F, Worker, 61) (Equipped: Bronze Workknife) gathers wheat from the plot. (Gather Wheat)
Lopen Crafter (M, Worker, 32) makes several bronze spear-tips, in the case of enemies and invaders. (Create Bronze Spears) (Technique: Sandcasting)
Janon Stonebreaker (M, Worker, 37) (Equipped: Bronze Pickaxe) works to expand the barley and second grain planting, that they would withstand the upcoming years. (Expand barley planting)
Cara Stonebreaker (F, Worker, 33) (Equipped: Copper Workknife) works with her husband to expand the barley planting. (Expand Barley Planting)
Jana Hunter (F, Worker, 36) (Equipped: Bronze Workknife) gathers wheat from the planting. (Expand Barley planting)
Cana Stonebreaker (F, Trainee Worker, 12) works the fields. (Gather Wheat)

Coran Hunter (M, 6) swings sticks and bares his teeth.
Lopan Crafter (M, 5) plays with the dogs in the mud.
Lian Crafter (M, 4) tags along with his older brother.
Lana Crafter (F, 4) begins to speak her first words.
Jaron Stonebreaker (M, 1) cries and eats.

Cara and Janon attempt for a child.
Lopen and Lia attempt for a child.

Any stored food is consumed, extra food is stored.
