Character Weight: 187 lbs
Character Position/Role/Job: Congresswoman from Ohio’s 9th District

(Image)
Character State of Origin: Ohio
Character State of Residence: Ohio
Character Party Affiliation: D
Main Strengths: Progressive Stalwart
Main Weaknesses: Uncompromising
Biography: Born to two Polish immigrants Alexandra Gilicki has memories of her parents studying for their citizenship test at their kitchen table. Her parents arrived with nothing fleeing the Soviet Union before settling in Ohio, they could barely read Polish and couldn’t speak any English. Her mother took a job as a seamstress and her father worked in a factory, eventually becoming a plant manager. Alexandra was the third of 4 children and the only girl, despite this her mother insisted she get an education.

She attended high school in Toldeo, getting a job as a waitress at night to help support the family and save for college. Through financial aid and a good scholarship Alexandra was able to attend Michigan State University for an undergrad in Criminal Justice - Pre-Law Degree. She would go to the University of Cincinnati to earn her Juris Doctor.

Graduating in 1997 she moved back to Toldeo and married her long term boyfriend who owned 2 restaurants in the city. After being admitted to the bar in 1998 she began work as a civil lawyer in a real estate firm while doing pro bono work for women in family court. During this time she had 2 children and became politically active with various groups through her pro bono work. In 2004 she was elected President of the Toldeo Women’s Bar Association. In 2007 she was appointed Assistant District Attorney for Toldeo and was assigned to the Special Victims Bureau becoming the head of the unit in 2009 when she became a strong advocate for abused children.

With a reputation for working hard and being tough but fair she was admitted to the US Supreme Court Bar in 2009. She continued to work as an attorney in Toldeo and furthering her local notoriety until 2014 when the incumbent Congressman for Toledo’s 9th district retired. Her local connections with major advocate groups, her polish heritage and tough reputation helped her win the primary and then the general by a large margin.

After her 2014 election she hit Congress hard focusing on early progressive issues such as climate change and income inequality. She has passed few bills but authored several large progressive pieces of legislation regarding the minimum wage, criminal justice, and climate change, recently she was one of the primary authors of the GND.

He'd be willing to take another blow from Volker like last time...Actually much further. He'd kick up a stink, get the internet chanting at them. Get petitions against it and basically lead an opposition.

If New Cob makes a GOP candidate in Mississippi, we'll need a Democrat.

Maybe I'll make a stand in guy just because I don't think they could really win.

I'm thinking of making an Eisenhower inspired presidential candidate that led coalition forces in Afghanistan, maybe a House seat from a conservative part of New Jersey, struggles with campaign energy, but has made numerous connections in the Tri-State area and has campaign finance at the beginning and is a favorite on cable news, but has trouble fund raising on the campaign trail.

A bit late to run, but Porter might gun for his endorsement.

I disagree

If New Cob's GOP guy is a 1) a Republican, 2) not overly problematic, 3) with some experience, and perhaps most importantly, 4) pro-Medicaid expansion, I frankly don't see a way a Democrat could win. I mean, I guess an even more conservative Dem could win but it would be incredibly difficult and likely undercut natural Democratic support.

It's my turn to go sponsor-huntin' with my first attempt at writing a constitutional amendment.

Proposing an Amendment to the Constitution of the United States to Forbid the Desecration of the Flag of the United States of America
The Defense of the American Flag Amendment

Sponsored by: Representative Katherine Edwards (R-GA-3)
Co-sponsored by: Representative Thomas Volker (R-MO-8), Representative Charles Renfus (R-MS-4), Senator Barry Anderson (R-MO)

Overview: The resolution herein is a proposal to amend the Constitution of the United States of America with the intention to protect the Flag of the United States of America, the supreme symbol of the United States both domestically and overseas, from acts of desecration - such as burning - by affording to the Federal Congress, and to the governments of the several states, and the Federal District, and the several territories of the United States such power as to legislate for the prohibition of the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States of America.

Section I: Despite the sincere work of the state and territorial governments of the several states and territories of the United States of America in order to protect the Flag of the United States of America from physical desecration, it is understood that in the cases Texas v. Johnson and United States v. Eichman it was the legal opinion of the Rehnquist Court, and thus the precedent in law, that the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States of America was and is protected by the freedom of expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. This amendment seeks to provide a justifiable caveat on the basis that it is the sense of Congress, and the states subsequently ratifying this Amendment, that the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States of America is an act of gross offensiveness not worthy of the protection of the Constitution.

Section II: Thus, Congress shall have the power to prohibit the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States of America, and to entail federal criminal penalties therein for the act of doing so.

Section III: And thus, the several states, the Federal District, and the territories of the United States of America shall have the power to prohibit the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States of America, and to entail local criminal penalties therein for the act of doing so.

Section IV: Neither Congress, nor the several states, nor the Federal District, nor the territories of the United States, shall construe any such section within this amendment to prevent the appropriate disposal of the Flag of the United States of America, by dignified burning as so recommended by the United States Flag Code.

This resolution is then honorably presented to the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration in order to protect the Flag of the United States of America, and to improve the United States Law, and is backed by Representative Katherine Edwards.

Goldman yes but no cosponsor unless Democratic whip says otherwise, Vohoffsky says no in his gut, but maybe be pushed by the Republican whip.
