90s so Bratvas and the rest of it was common place. The entire black market just suddenly became public, had been brewing all through the 70s and 80s. Was hard to get official loans, no real banks, and an initial payment was needed to get a mortgage on newly privatized land near the town center. Building a new life and all that.
At the time the fam had a farm and this unit of a man, I think short and bulky, came over to get his money every couple of months. My granddad just talked with him like he does with everyone and the guy just drove off each time, gave him some apples or moonshine with vague promises and it got forgotten about eventually.

Life is literally just about having the right people and luck, that’s what I’ve learnt from the old man.

I kind of like using the accent I'm using to write it out, though Kelvi's version of it does seem a bit exaggerated to me but then again I'm definitely not claiming to be an expert in South Accents, if people want me to stop I'm fine doing so.

I remember watching a documentary or something like that on the 2017 Special in Alabama and one lady said something like, "You know, we're only the second-worst state, Mississippi's right there so any time someone talks about us like we're the worst we just point over to them."

Yep, in the UK. We've been getting a lot of immigrants from Eastern Europe, and while I think it might decrease after Brexit, it'll probably improve our geography skills as a population.
