Dominant Species: Humanity.
Demographics: Primarily Human, with a few near human species.

Territory: Sectors F-9, G-9, E-10, F-10, G-10, E-11, F-11, and lastly J-12.

Megastructures:
1. Olympia Central/Yoshida Fleet Works - less a single massive construction and instead several large scale ship building and breaking yards located in the central core territory of the Company.
2. Ares Gate Pair - The single largest asset owned by the Company, the Ares Gate Pair is the only known pair of FTL gates owned by a private company, the Gates are pair of heavily fortified and secured FTL gates owned and operated by OHI and is one of the few assets owned by the Mother company proper, rather then one of it's many subsidiaries.

Government and Ideology: Corporate Autocracy
Leader Name and Title: Elizabeth Farebrooks Windgates Achermen, Head of the Acherman Family and CEO of Olympia Heavy Industries.

Extraterritoriality:
-IS EXTRATERRITORIAL: Despite having a core of sectors that is properly its own territory, a large portion of the Company's assets are seated in several Branch offices in other national territories.

Religion: None officially, how ever The Company allows a largely peaceful sect of Christians along side a smaller minority of Buddhists.

Military: 1.4 million armed security personal, Spread across OHI's own Security department, USEC/United Security, and Yoshita Fleet works Security forces.

Special Technologies: Mass Fabrication and Copyright. Using a combination of Nanoforging, Molecular manipulation, and tried and tested Production line techniques allows OHI to set up and control one of the largest concentrate mass production bases in the Galaxy. The Key to this is a system of Standardized Construction Templates allowing for a unified system of Items production across all of OHI's foundries.

Symphony in C's Nation Application

Nation Name: the Symphony in C of Ciloya Toepa's Task Elements

Population Size: One person's mind instantiated in approximately ninety-five thousand bodies, plus their slaved machinery if applicable.

Dominant Species: Ciloya Toepa was, until she uploaded, hacked into an old factory, and started mind-cloning herself into various fancy new bodies, a standard human. The Symphony's current forms are incredibly diverse and no fair assessment can be made of their distribution.

Demographics: If you insist. Most of the Symphony's bodies take the form of starships and heavy machinery, though some prefer to load themselves directly as emulated minds and remote-control these sorts of devices instead. A variety of nanotech-enhanced biological forms fill out the pack, ranging from human-adjacent to utterly alien, though these inevitably have unusual features, mannerisms, or shapes that give away that they were purpose-built.

Territory: The Symphony's current main base of operations, a location sardonically referred to as "Home For Now", orbits a planetless M-class star in sector AF12; given that there are probably millions of stars in that sector, it's really not something that could be considered a foothold there at all, and should not be considered territory. The Symphony is also in command of smaller ships, factories, and minor locations here and there around the galaxy, none of which amount to much in the way of assets.

Megastructures: Home For Now consists of a sprawling but abandoned-seeming megastructure complex near its parent star, which contains a Quantum Telegraph station (useful for coordinating the bodies!), a central supercomputer and factory complex, and a small-scale starlifting operation that dredges up a few billion tons of hydrogen annually.

Government and Ideology: The Symphony's form of government is essentially a single person's form of "self-government" within their own mind: Ciloya's different mind-clones talk to themselves or each other, come up with their next course of action, and then meander around until they get to it. One mind-clone can't really disagree too vehemently with another, because that one would have made roughly the same decision under the circumstances; if there is disagreement, it's a sign of self-conflict rather than some sort of politics going on.

Ciloya's strongest opinion is that she thinks everyone should do the whole Symphony thing, because minds are fragile and having backups is a good idea. She's terrified of her (permanent) death, seeing any death as a tragedy, and keeps asking why people are okay with sickness, aging, and such being considered normal. In secret, she desires a way out of the endless toil and effort that goes into life; "find or make a heaven" could be considered the Symphony's rallying cry.

Leader Name and Title: Ciloya Toepa has no other names or titles. She may give out a body's specific identification number if asked, but she does not expect anyone to remember them.

Extraterritoriality: The Symphony is extraterritorial save for the current central base of operations, which is militarized and under a policy of controlled access.

Religion: Ciloya (and so the Symphony) doesn't particularly believe anything, except as a means of testing ideological strength.

Military: The Symphony is fairly committed to not killing people, and maintains only a token force of around fifty small to mid-sized slide-drive starships (all of whom are proper members of the Symphony) built for long-term expeditionary duty; these sacrifice close-up combat power and armor in exchange for endurance and cargo capacity, though they do mount modestly powerful railgun and missile weapons in the event that they are forced to defend a location with violent force.

None of the Symphony's bodies are intended for proper modern ground combat; those meant to go to other planets tend to have a variety of concealed stun weapons, ornamental melee weapons, and personal shields for defense. Bodies of starships or infrastructure, however, are more than capable of employing lethal measures against intruders, largely focused around venting gases and heat in unfortunate ways towards unsuspecting boarders.

Special Technologies: Here we go.
  • Most of the Symphony's bodies are nanotech-augmented, mostly by having various atomic metamaterials embedded inside them for survivability and microsensors implanted to aid with sensory information, but some by having internal nanobot patrols for internal damage, disease, and such. These bots are highly specialized, cannot survive outside their body, and can't really do much besides fight viruses and repair tissues.
  • Home For Now's factory infrastructure includes advanced fusion processes that allow the efficient conversion of starlifted hydrogen to heavier elements (albeit with a dramatic energy cost past iron, for physical reasons). These materials are practically all used to build or repair the Symphony's bodies, though having a supply of a few million tons of gold or uranium on hand does make trade somewhat easier.
  • Obviously, the existence of the Symphony required the use of mind uploading and duplication, though at this point the technology available is so specialized that Ciloya will be hesitant to offer it to anyone else, as it likely would not even work on someone else's mind.
  • Ciloya has hardened herself against infohazards/basilisks/viral memes; polities that use social tech ("metatech") may find it difficult to influence her substantially.

Do you hereby promise that you have read and agree with the rules, or are willing to pretend like you have read and agree with the rules, and are willing to listen to and accept the judgments of Arktic and his deputies as the final word regarding combat, technology, and game fairness and fun?: Yes.

Ciloya Toepa's Character Application

Character Name: Ciloya Toepa, bodies C-1 through C-95XXX (variable)
Appearance: No fixed appearance; every body is unique.

Species: Notionally human in origin, Ciloya uploaded to a supercomputer and printed out spare bodies of various mechanical and biological natures.
Age: Original body was born 198 years ago; total subjective time is somewhere in the megayears thanks to having tens of thousands of simultaneous streams of experience.
Biological Sex, Gender, & Sexual Orientation: Biological sex highly variable. Identifies as female and uses she/her pronouns.
Homeworld: TBD. Let me know if you'd be cool having her from your world, anyone!

Allegiance & Affiliation: Self. She considers herself an autonomous nation, and she's not wrong.
Occupation: Producing new bodies, exploring the galaxy, getting in intellectual arguments.
Rank: -

Personality: TBD. It tends to come out differently in different contexts.
Biography: Ciloya grew up on a world where massive innovations in technology did not change peoples' opinions on the inevitability or (gasp!) importance of death, and from a young age was shunned for being overeager about immortality. It took a chance encounter with a space traveler to get her to leave home, vanish into galactic history, and then reappear in recent years as a decentralized computer intelligence with bodies spanning the galaxy. Bit of a makeover.

Skills: Thanks to a constant stream of information intake from thousands of sources, Ciloya has the experience of a nigh-omnipresent immortal on her hands, though she tends to enjoy hiding this and feigning ignorance sometimes. She is crafty, physically intelligent, and exceptionally creative when it comes to it.
Liabilities: Ciloya thinks she can speak for other people and does not understand views opposing her own very much; she has a crippling fear of her own mortality and will abandon friends and loyalties in service of her own survival.
Special Characteristics: Ciloya is multiply instantiated across numerous bodies that cross-reference each others' minds to ensure they're all roughly aligned; she is nearly immune to social tech / memetics; she has a supercomputer's worth of processing power on her hands.

Accepted! Adding you to the map post-haste.

Not sure what you mean, but humanity has been a member of the galactic community for at least a few centuries, and potentially a full millennium. But there's no limit to how ancient, or how recent an alien species can be.

I wasn't sure whether or not to include that my species basically elicits a response of "oh, look at the cute little lynxes trying to survive a hostile world-OH GOD THEY'RE SPACE BOLSHEVIKS HELP!"

Like they were once considered a backward species/primitive species then were ignored for a while...

Are those 200,000 ships normal line ships? Because if so, that fleet is far too large.

Also, please clarify gravity plating.

Gravity Plating:
-A panel that applies a set acceleration to objects within a volume directly in front of the array. In this manner, the plating is capable of generating artificial gravity without the need for rotating sections or constant acceleration from an outside reference frame. Power consumption is directly related to the magnitude of the acceleration and the area of the plating and exponentially related to the volume affected. Due to the power consumption, it is recommended to restrict use of this plating to the living areas of spacecraft or stations.

Fleet Size:
-The majority of warships used by the PNR are Strike Frigates, high-speed ships of no more than 300 meters in length with a maximum compliment of 60. They are not considered well armed or armored and lack conventional weapons of mass destruction. The primary purpose of these ships is to deploy strike teams of Marines using its small compliment of drop ships. Besides the drop ships, lighters, and service craft the Strike Frigate carries no other combat aircraft. Strike Frigates are expeditionary vessels, designed to arrive in a designated area of operations on short notice and an expectation of minimum resistance. Nonetheless it is more than capable of severely damaging unarmed or unarmored ships. It is fitted with a simple "Slide"-type FTL drive, electronic warfare equipment, and several kinetic point defense weapons and missile silos. Roughly three-in-four PNR warships are Strike Frigates, with the remainder being logistics support ships and capital ships. Due to the nature of PNR military strategy, few capital ships are outfitted for expeditionary operations with a preference for surface deployments being carried out by the strike frigates. Most capital ships which do consider landing operations or other sorts of take-and-hold missions instead simply make room to carry Strike Frigates as a mothership. Some Strike Frigates are specially modified to perform particular missions or provide specialist support to general use Strike Frigates.

-Considering the compliment required to man a Strike Frigate, which includes both ship's crew and the requisite Marine compliment, and the total number of military personnel employed by the PNR, 200,000 vessels is a conservative estimate for total fleet size even accounting for the presence of line ships and supporting units. Were one to assume other military units did not exist, the PNR would deploy its personnel among more than a million Strike Frigates! Since larger warships do exist, and other organizations are required to support such a vast fleet, the PNR deploys much fewer ships than this number. The PNR is able to deploy so many ships due to the vast quantity of resources at their disposal in a post-scarcity economy and lean digital existence. Even assuming the PNR did not practice conscription, and participation in the armed forces was entirely voluntary, there would be significant fractions of the population which would enlist simply out of boredom, in numbers which would easily dwarf an industrial nation's army. With this taken into account, the large size of the PNR fleet and perhaps potential adversaries is understandable. A smaller fleet would simply require a government and population that is even less interested in defense, with few other barriers to fleet size in conceivable existence.

Gravity plating approved.

Your IC arguments are very convincing, but I'm hesitant to give you such a large fleet for OOC reasons. A TRUE post-scarcity economy is impossible, and dedicating it entirely to your military seems... possible, but awfully unbalanced. I don't want you curb stomping everyone else. Lower the ship number to 10,000 and you're approved.

HEAVY WIP - ALL ASPECTS SUBJECT TO CHANGE

FIRST SPHERE NATION APPLICATION

Nation Name: First Sphere
Image

Population Size: ~6,000,000,000
Dominant Species: Fornix
    Singular: Fornix
    Plural: Fornixi
    Adjective: Fornixian

Known by many titles from many species, the Fornix are a species with a long and storied history. Originating in a more practicable and likely place, upon the spinward south of the galaxy, they were a humanoid species much like humanity. With a rise to power much akin to that same humanity, outlasting competition by physical stamina and intellect. As time moved on, they were consumed by an all-encompassing need for mastery in all things. They wished mastery in the very fabric of reality, in the space-time continuum, in matter itself. They wanted the very building blocks to be their playthings. Such actions did not come to fruition, though the empire formed from the Fornix at that period was littered with experiments, both working and not, and in time their machinations destabilized the very things they were attempting to bring into reign. Matter and space itself became warped and wrong, the fundamentals of distance and time akin to pendulums than their static, proper forms, and the Fornix knew that they had to escape. They would board a great and vast ark and leave for the center of all things. That was millenia ago.

Today the Fornix are old ones, their forms morphed by flares of individualistic self-perfection in every single being, and as a result physically they can be considered a drastically different race. A unifying factor among those more often seen by foreigners, if such a thing exists, are omnipresent robes and smooth masks. The average life-span for Fornix is approximately 300 years, in part due to extensive medical knowledge for the race and it’s own ability to genetically temper with already-living individuals, while an average Fornixian height would be 2 meters, though individuals far outside this average are known to exist. Mammalian and warm blooded, for the most part Fornix are implanted with various organs, glands, and implants in order to improve survivability and ensure redundancy; if one organ should fail, another should be ready to take its place. To this end, while some sport external exoskeletons and others softer skin, Fornixi invariably will have a hardened, plate-like armor beneath dermal tissues to absorb brute force damage. As a direct result, on average Fornixi are 200% heavier than most other species care to assume, with that number only rising as such individuals design themselves to be far larger than the norm. Generally, reflexes are serviceable but not all-halting, their own momentum due to this weight working against the Fornix. Hearing is considered to be exceptional, often augmented by implants, while sight is likewise good for the species. Some Fornix are known to utilize implanted organs to gain sixth senses, such as echolocation via sounds inaudible to most ears.

    The Tyrant Star
A massive station, one light year upon the Y axis above the central black hole, which holds the same name to those of the First Sphere, this ancient piece of technology is a wonder capable of capturing the passing energies of the galaxy itself as they travel into that black hole and, in so doing, both power a shield capable of withstanding such batterings, hold itself in place statically, and be capable of producing expansive surpluses. It acts as the primary hub for the vast majority of the First Sphere’s populus as well as the sole producer of such goods. The station itself is a massive pair of rings, each 8,000 kilometers in radius and arranged as to be perpendicular to one another, with the inner section of such rings used for habitation, food production, and Raw material refinement. The outer section of the ring is utilized for voidborne actions such as vessel production. At the center of the Tyrant Star sits, generated by several powerful emitters, a singular artificial star to allow for the cultivation of foodstuffs. For it’s protection, the Tyrant Star is afforded a powerful, layered shield system, point defense systems, and gravity beam weapons of titanic scale. It should be noted that the Tyrant Star possesses a massive Drive in the ‘Blink’ category.
Government and Ideology: Autocratic Civilian Dictatorship
Ruled over by a singular individual, the Arch-Magister, who holds absolute power over the First Sphere. They appoint government officials to the various Departments who, in turn, hold localized authority over their various specialities. Total authority is held by the Arch-Magister over the armed forces, though minute details are dealt with by the appointed Defense Council. This Defense Council consists of nine Admirals and Generals which hold permanent authority over all bureaus in a time of war, though they cannot move against the rulings of the Arch-Magister. In addition to this, special authority may be granted in writs enabling some to bridge the gaps between Departments when necessary, though that authority may be revoked at any time and provides no guarantee that the next Arch-Magister will keep it active. Every fifty years a national vote is held for whether or not the currently residing Arch-Magister should stay in power. Should the vote fail the individual stays in power until the next vote or death, while its success ensures that in two years time a full, single election is held, in part to give time for campaigns to run and garner support. When an Arch-Magister is expelled, for those two years they hold limited control with no ability to alter the political process, execute individuals, or overall give punishment to others. In order to perform those duties, interim councils are formed from the Department heads. The current Departments are as such:
      Department of Agriculture
Charged with the production of all foodstuffs to include vegetative, animal, and synthetic, the Department operates various farms and factories across the Tyrant Star's surface. Utilizing the artificial star as well as strains of gene-perfected plants and animals, they produce in excess of the current domestic need, lowering the foodstuffs overall price of sale. Mammalian kine are somewhat grown, prized for the quality of meat, though they are largely niche due to more space efficient food sources such as crustaceans or grains. This Department is charged with the maintaining and provision of security, both personnel wise and materially, of their grounds. However some protection is invariably provided by the Department of Interior.
      Image
      Department of Commerce
While the First Sphere does not trade with other nation states, there is a nationalized currency and internal trade and, as such, there is a necessity for the Department of Commerce. In charge of job creation aboard the Tyrant Star, the economic growth of the country, and the development of sustainable industry, this Department collects data for the First Sphere in order to track and predict economic trends and counter any issues which may arise. While most Covens do not see this Department as an especially glamorous position of power, those more numerically minded find some measure of interest.
      Department of Energy
In overall command of the collection systems, power plants, and distribution systems on the Tyrant Star, this Department ensures all stations under its purview follow the standards set and perform either at or above expectations. Inspections on each facility are performed every six months with a deviance of more or less than two months, and are given without warning by compartmentalized inspection teams. They ensure technicians are properly trained through the further operation of several trade schools as well as potential, though not paid, on the job training, though such individuals take far longer to achieve proper scale of knowledge.
      Department of Infrastructure
With the overall purview of First Sphere structural integrity, this Department has an invasive presence within all others. With the goal of preserving their station, they begin work projects to repair or improve certain areas as well as perform random inspections on all buildings on a bi-monthly basis in order to ensure that such buildings and regions do not fail. Certain pieces such as the collector arrays may be inspected on a more frequent basis due to their inherently stressful existence. The Department is empowered to arrest any official deemed to be performing inadequately in the stations preservation, though such an arrest may only bring the case to the Arch-Magister, not convict or sentence the individual. To be personally reviewed by the Arch-Magister is unusual and reserved by only the higher ranking officers, with lower ranks being dealt internally. Due to strategic imperatives this Department works exceedingly close to the armed forces with many ranking officials being former Naval officers in engineering.
      Department of Interior
Overall in command of the Tyrant Star’s land area resources, the Interior is inherently a valuable position of power for any Coven and, as such, finds itself in a continuous struggle. Forever pushed forth on the cutting edge of excellence, both by the inherent value of land area on a static station and by those Covens who desire an upper hand, for this Department every square foot counts. Management of these lands is continually honed down to a science of efficiency and effectiveness.
Outside and within this Department system are the Covens, familial spheres of influence which use their children, real and adopted, to further their own gains. Provided with vast retinues of power by purchased votes and deep commercial ties, they can be likened to political parties due to their individualized view of how the Quest For Heaven should be achieved. A series of alliances, some shifting while others are practically permanent by virtue of basic beliefs, permeate that system, complicating the overall political system. Covens vie for political appointments in order to further their own worth ro the Arch-Magister and, as such, ruthlessly teach and train those among them to be the best they might be.
Leader Name and Title: Arch-Magister Uxo
Extraterritoriality: PROHIBITED
All foreign entities entering First Sphere territorial space are purged by force.
Religion: Quest For Heaven
The Fornix generally believe in what is known as the “Quest For Heaven”, a journey of self-enlightenment and self-empowerment through philosophical and technological means. That is to say, the belief that spiritual enlightenment is separate from physical self-beneficiary actions do not exist in the religion. Through this technological improvement, eventually true universal understanding could be achieved as well as true immortality, turning the species into theoretical gods. In order to take this, the logical conclusion is the mastery of energy and, thereby, mastery of the universe’s laws, the galaxy, and all it’s denizens. It should be noted that this mastery is not one of simple brute force, of the subjugation of all in the galaxy, for to be a god is not to forever need to act as a mortal. Most believe that some species and groups will naturally worship them once such a hypothetical is achieved, that they will find allies and subjects by their natures. A naturally pragmatic religion, the main tenants and methods of individual worship is in action, not words, and every breakthrough, every creation, every rifle and starship is a prayer and praise to the Quest. It is, by the very nature of the religion, one wholly unique to the Fornix and the First Sphere.

    Army
      Numbers:
        400,000 Fornix
        10,200,000 Golems
While not officially a separate entity from the Navy, there is more than enough distinction between the two as to be considered by many a branch unto itself. Ferried into battle by the Naval forces and utilizing drop pods for rapidly inserting into combat, ground forces vary as wildly as the species itself. With main line troops primarily being biomechanical constructs designed for rapid movement, reflexes, and a lethality unmatched, these vat born are not considered people by the First Sphere itself legally or by the Fornix themselves, instead seen as living weapons designed for a singular purpose in mind. Subdued for transit, to let them loose upon a planet is to unleash rabid dogs upon a child. When armed with ranged weaponry, these constructs are often equipped with heavy cannons firing shrapnel shells, acting as massive shotguns to shred enemy infantry, though others may be armed with heavy satchel charges to destroy enemy armor and close-knit formations. Their armor is brutally utilitarian, wasting little on pomp or ceremony, though some wear masks to denote their Coven ownership. Such denotation is used to note which Coven’s creations did the best upon the battlefield, followed orders the best, and so on and so forth, mostly in order to garner slender bragging rights. Such biomechanical constructs are known as ‘Golems’.

The rare times the Fornix masters take to the field show a spectacularly cruel and majestic beauty. Whether giants striding into battle carrying their own void shields upon their backs, encased in crablike armor and wielding corvette grade weaponry or flying beings capable of diving into combat without a whisper, invariably casualties are sustained. Those who prefer a more silent aproach may implement blades, often honed to an exceptional edge, or more exotic technologies such as a gravitic pulse generator about the hand. At times Fornix prefer long ranged combat, implementing gravitic rifles to engage from afar and inflict severe damage to those of higher rank. Such rifles can be considered akin to light cannons in their penetration capabilities. Preferably such valuable individuals remain unused lest an especially hard target present itself for forces which cannot be simply bombarded into impotence, though they may deploy themselves onto the battlefield if vanity should take hold.

Smaller drones can be seen deployed in combat, most commonly as suicide bombs to destroy fortifications, troop formations, and enemy armored vehicles. Often times small, utilitarian objects of a spherical nature, many utilize a plasma drive system which may be seen on other fighter craft, mostly due to the sheer degree of acceleration which the system affords, and with this propulsion system in tandem with an advanced Reaction Control System the drone is able to maneuver in and out of cover with exceptional speed. Armed with heavy charges and deployed en masse, often combined with a gas attack to mask the presence of the drones, their effectiveness is seldom seen but always confirmed. Those drones which utilize a gravity drive often are termed as ‘gun drones’, armed with a gravitic rifle and used for long range support. With weak shielding able to withstand a few hits, these disposable weapons platforms provide effective cover fire for advancing formations as well as the omnipresent potential to engage high value enemy targets such as officers. It should be noted that these systems utilize Artificial Intelligence matrices to perform their tasks at hand instead of simple protocols or ineffective operator control.

Armored forces are not deployed by the First Sphere in any fashion.

I'll be working on an app. (Maybe with a puppet for the nation app.) For the character app I'm gonna have my character be some low-level MWC bureaucrat.

If it isn't an issue, I'd like to update my application to move the Symphony's primary base to sector AB22 so that it is a little more centrally located. (Note that I still don't think it counts as a territorial claim; it's just one system, so an empire who wants to set up all around it on any of the millions of systems in the sector absolutely can.)

I won't mind if this isn't possible, but considering the IC isn't up yet, I figured I might as well ask.

Territory: Sector N13, Olympus System and surrounding Shield Systems

Megastructures: Atlas-class Craftworld, an enormous mobile fortress which serves as the center of a nomad fleet and is capable of establishing colonies, mounting offensive military campaigns across several star systems, and manufacturing whole war fleets. It is the most common residence for digital minds.

Government and Ideology: Direct Democracy, Armed Neutrality, Galactic Harmony by Any Means
Leader Name and Title: Supreme Executive Council

Extraterritoriality: Is Extraterritorial

Religion: Human Ascension Theory

Military: Roughly 1.6 Million personnel, 10,000 warships. Preferred actions are intervention, surgical strike, and insurgent operations. Failure of these tactics, or an alternative desired effect, may justify orbital bombardment, xenocide, and total annihilation.

I like this, a lot, actually. The one problem is I think your not taking in to account the engagement distances that are present. Space combat realistically takes place at thousands of Kilometres apart between combatant ships. That being said, I dont see a problem with that provided you take what I have said in to account. Otherwise, it gets an Accepted in my book.

At this time, what would the stance be on subspace distortion technology in the offensive role?
