"My Vice-President has to be understanding of their unique role as the first woman's VP," Jillian paused, "traditional Vice Presidents have never been seen as the man of the table, I was Governor with an ambitious Lieutenant Governor, I refuse to have a deputy with an investment more in themselves rather than the goal we'd be elected to attain. So my shortlist at this hour doesn't account for ideology, rather it accounts for their ability to work with me to reach our goals and their personal belief in my agenda as far as I can tell. How much we agree on, so on."

"I'm not opposed to a Vice President who'd want to run in four or eight years," Jillian continued, "but they do that after most of my agenda, that I want to be elected on, is passed and law."

"Any chance you'd be willing to tell me some of the names on the shortlist, or would you rather keep it a secret?"

Stuyvesant Analytics Polling 16 November 2019
Image

After a brief hiatus due to a reshuffle among the firm's staff, Stuyvesant has returned to conduct another round of polling for the Republican nominating contest. As the race continues, the contest has only continued to tighten, with no clear frontrunner nationally or in the early states. As Super Tuesday polling is conducted, a clearer picture of the race at the macro-level is likely to emerge.

National
Gov. Jonah Prendergast: 30% (+1)
Gov. Nathaniel Richardson: 29% (+1)
Fmr. Sec. Bernard Porter: 22% (+2)
Cong. Diane Paulson 21% (+3)
“Someone Else”/Undecided: 7% (-7)
Sen. Arthur Bragg: 1% (-)

Iowa
Gov. Nathaniel Richardson: 33% (-)
Gov. Jonah Prendergast: 29% (+2)
Fmr. Sec. Bernard Porter: 19.5% (-)
“Someone Else”/Undecided: 4% (-2)
Cong. Diane Paulson: 14% (-)
Sen. Arthur Bragg: 1% (-)

New Hampshire
Gov. Nathaniel Richardson: 28% (-)
Gov. Jonah Prendergast: 27.5% (+2)
Cong. Diane Paulson: 26% (-)
“Someone Else”/Undecided: 6% (-2)
Fmr. Sec. Bernard Porter: 9% (-)
Sen. Arthur Bragg: .5% (-)

South Carolina
Gov. Nathaniel Richardson: 33% (-.5)
Gov. Jonah Prendergast: 28.5% (-.5)
Fmr. Sec. Bernard Porter: 26.5% (+2.5)
“Someone Else”/Undecided: 6.5% (-1.5)
Cong. Diane Paulson: 5.5% (-)
Sen. Arthur Bragg: ~0% (-)

Nevada
Gov. Jonah Prendergast: 29% (-1)
Cong. Diane Paulson: 24.5% (+3)
Fmr. Sec. Bernard Porter: 23% (+3)
Gov. Nathaniel Richardson: 18% (-2.5)
“Someone Else”/Undecided: 5.5% (-3)
Sen. Arthur Bragg: ~0% (-)

Key Takeaways

-Prendergast has clung onto his national lead, and by showing up in Iowa and New Hampshire more than any other candidate by a wide margin over the past month and a half he has seen his position in the polls grow in the early states. This is a boon on the candidate, as pundits were initially skeptical as to whether or not the West Virginia governor could hold his solid positions in the polls.

-Porter has seen a sudden surge in the third-in-the-nation Palmetto State. He has aggressively courted the state's conservative Wolfist voters in his recent bout of campaigning, which has put him within striking distance of the Prendergast-Richardson tier. He has benefited from the light schedules in the state held by his opponents.

-Paulson has seen a surge in the national polls due to her positioning of key endorsers and surrogates, and her relentless advertising campaigns thanks to well-funded friendly Super PACs. Analysts speculate that she could be seeing a second surge against expections, which could shake up the contest as we move toward casting votes.

-A national showdown of sorts has benefited both Richardson and Porter. Porter was involved in statewide disaster relief from flooding spearheaded by Governor Burgun (R-ND) over the last month. In response, Porter received some positive coverage from hard-right outlets for his assistance and willingness to jump into action. Support from undecided voters then went to Richardson, as the candidate lambasted Porter and Burgun for ineffectiveness and the former Defense Secretary's lack of pertinent experience and politicization of a crisis. This drew attention from all sides and had small but noticeable positive results for both candidates.

-Nevada has turned into the latest battleground, as Prendergast's lead in the final early state has been eroded by aggressive campaigning by Paulson and Porter. This could be seen as one of the best options for the lagging candidates to make their mark on the race.

-Certain candidates, namely Prendergast and Porter have benefited from his high-profile surrogacy for the Governor-Elect of Kentucky Tara Misra, and Governor-Elect of Louisiana John Holland. Despite a surprise loss in Mississippi, the 2019 gubernatorial contests have left the GOP in a stronger position going into the election year, thanks to the defeat of an incumbent governor and highly touted candidate in Louisiana and Kentucky respectively.

-As the first caucus approaches, it is clearly anyone's race. There are not many undecided voters, mostly due to the establishment of the field. Voters understand that what they see is what they get, and tribalism is beginning to take hold. Candidates are trading voters, but will it be enough for any of them to consolidate a serious lead before January?

Alas, from time to time, she had to host friends and guests here and thus she took part of the day before to clean up. By the time that her friend Jillian was set to arrive, the entire home was in order and the Alaskan was sat at the kitchen table as pop music played from her Alexa. It was that big black woman's music that Frankie had come to enjoy though she only left it playing given the fact her guest was likely to not think of it as inappropriate. So when Dayton arrived, she opened the door to greet her with the song traveling out the door.

"Hello Senator, how are you?"

"Quite good, Senator," Jillian smiled, "I trust your keeping well?"

“I am doing splendid. Though I would be better if the Senate could finally get a move on. It has certainly moved slowly thanks to its sleepy leaders.” she said, stepping aside to let Jillian into her home.

“I hope you don’t mind the music. I quite like it.”

"You and your subtle flex," Jillian gave him a pinch under the table in complete subtlety as she laughed along.

HOLLAND RESIDENCE
NOVEMBER 18TH, 2019
JOHN HOLLAND

After his massive victory in the gubernatorial election, Holland had decided to take some time to relax after a long campaign. He spent most of us days post-election at home with his wife. Some occasional visits from his children and grandkids along with phone calls with his transition team littered about in preparation for the next four years. Today however was a real meeting. He had a scheduled meeting at his home in Lafayette with a Republican Senate candidate.

He waited for Gaspard to pull up to his house patiently. Sipping on some tea while he looked out the window.

"If things go the way you say they will, with your support and Jillian’s in helping clear the path for me to the Senate seat right here, then I think that you can count on my support. Obviously I’d like to probably talk to my team before actually doing anything just yet since they deserve a say. And I hope that those who endorse me will have their promises honored to a degree to help them stay comfortable in crossing the threshold to endorsing Jillian in return. I want to look out for my people Tim, I’m sure you get that. But I think you can depart today to Washington with some good news for her. Though I’d love to have her call me too, especially in regards to figuring out a timeline.”

The Office of House Minority Leader Volker, Cannon House Office Building, Washington D.C.

After seeing the statement off to be issued to the media by his office, Volker sat in his chair for a brief moment as his mind drifted to the following year's House elections. Shortly after, he picked up the phone on his desk, usually he would never call his wife during the day, what with the two of them being flooded with work quite often, particularly within the past year. However, he thought it necessary to as a result of the day's circumstances. Consequently, the Congressman dialled in Torrie's cellphone number as he waited for the call to go through.

Two staffers immediately nodded at their boss and departed the room as soon as her phone had rung. It was her personal cell and unlike other calls, she has immediately stopped what she was doing to answer. Both of those details, while perhaps minor to others, had quickly been learned by her staff as meaning one thing: Thomas Volker was calling. And unless they wanted their futures jeopardized, they did not want to be caught eavesdropping on the powerful GOP couple. Torrie finally answered the call once her office door closed with a thud.

“Hello Thomas, everything alright?”

"Oh yes, thank you!" Hypolite replied as he placed his Arnold Wolf hat upon his head. The driver shut the Limo door as Hypolite walked up the steps and rang the doorbell at the home of Governor Elect John Holland.

Since then, music seems to have gotten a new definition, the aides pick the song while I sit down and read up on briefs, speech drafts, committee reports or bills, it's all become a monotonous tune of background beats."

She took the seat, "is this your playlist for the flights home?"

Dayton nodded affirmatively, "I agree, my entire college plan was written with Professors, school Principals and four students in a room drafting up a proposal. There was two lawmakers in the entire process, me and the Republican Speaker's office, we each sent one delegate into the room once a week until they finished their draft. That and if the Senate was run by teachers you'd never have filibustering, speaking concisely is a skill some politicians would do well to have."

Frankie had missed votes since Wednesday in order to travel back to Fairbanks for a constituent event. Normally, she despised such a sacrifice but given the light Senate schedule and the recent slowness of it all, the Alaskan had decided she could spare the few days. It was hardly a vacation, it was for her own reputation as a true representative who listened and participated, an image she intended to highlight in the lead up to her re-election especially. Thus as her flight landed from a weary connection in Seattle, the elder Frankie was tired. It was late and already she would have to be up early the following day to prepare her home for Jillian. She had worked on cleaning up already before she had left but nonetheless, she needed to get home. Thanking a nice man and probably an admirer of her sensible politics who helped her with her overhead bag, she made her way to luggage pick up already slightly annoyed at the long wait.

Though unfortunately for me, I don’t get those intimate moments with my staffers like you do but I suppose that’s a good thing because I’m not running for President. I imagine you must be awfully tired. I get drained for a few flights now and then but traveling is your whole schedule. Then again, you are much younger than myself Jillian.”

"I used to play the piano," Jillian recalled her sore fingers when she was a kid, "I became too good after a while, and we couldn't afford the bigger newer piano so I'd sit in a bus for three hours a week to cross Norfolk and get to my piano teacher's home and play there. Since then, music seems to have gotten a new definition, the aides pick the song while I sit down and read up on briefs, speech drafts, committee reports or bills, it's all become a monotonous tune of background beats."

She took the seat, "is this your playlist for the flights home?”

“Yes and also my playlist for my flights back. I actually just flew in yesterday evening so I suppose I’ve just been in the music mode for a while.

"You went to space, I swam a few times a week," Jillian smirked, "I'm certain you're in better shape than me."

"The road is no good for your health, corn dogs and beers are all fine, except when had at every event in a day, in a week," she said, "then it upsets the balance of things. I'm glad you mention the Presidential Race, I can't imagine I'm the first to seek your counsel."
...I'd like to do you slowly...

Hypolite slept as his driver drove up to the Holland residence,

"Sir, we have arrived" The driver said as he opened Hypolite's door.

"Oh yes, thank you!" Hypolite replied as he placed his Arnold Wolf hat upon his head. The driver shut the Limo door as Hypolite walked up the steps and rang the doorbell at the home of Governor Elect John Holland.

Holland saw the car drive up to his house and set down his tea. He waited for the doorbell to be rung until he opened it.

"Gaspard! It's nice to see you." He held his hand out for a shake and invited him into his abode.

“Space is about survival, smarts, and quick senses...much like politics eh?” she added with a smile.

“Ah yes, I’ve met with Diane Paulson thus far. A very nice friend of mine. Though I’m sure you’d have something to add to who she is to you. But please, enough of my rambling, what were you seeking from me?”

The Nez-Martinez pairing both laughed at Jullian's response, "It helped that I was teaching when we met," Kathleen briefly mentioned before Agustin jumped into the conversation, "Speaking of teachers, I wouldn't be mad if some group of politicans set up a group to help get more of us in Congress over, say, lawyers, but that's just me."

"I'd think it might have more to do with the fact that when we create an agenda, we sure as hell are going to stick to with it." Agustin joked as the wine he was drinking was starting to go to his head.
