The House Minority Leader arrived at the RNC fairly early in the morning, particularly in comparison to the his previous meetings, then again, this meeting differed from the others. Admittedly, elements of the down ballot elections he had found pleasing, particularly the GOP’s hold on Kentucky. However, he found the results from Mississippi most concerning, particularly with the loss in Texas having happened a mere five months beforehand. Nevertheless, Volker patiently waited for Governor Abernathy and Majority Leader Warrick to make their arrivals, thinking over what input he had for the meeting.

"Alright, and we're back!"

The anchor was an attractive woman, in her mid-thirties, too-white teeth bared in an approximation of a smile. She leaned forward in her seat, elbows propped up on the desk, as she spoke to the camera.

"Good morning, Sioux Falls, and welcome back to you early risers who were with us already. On the show with us today, we've got someone very important...Jason Evander, the one and only Congressional Representative from South Dakota!"

The screen split, shoving the anchor off to the left side while the right showed Jason, his massive frame tucked semi-comfortably behind the desk in his tiny D.C. apartment. He smiled and waved to the camera.

"Hey there, Sioux Falls!"

The anchor laughed slightly. "Congressman Evander, how are you?"

"Please, call me Jason. I'm doin' fine, doin' fine...I miss Sioux Falls and my son back home but other than that. Y'know."

"Mmhm, mmhm. Now, Jason...there's been an awful lot happening in Washington, hasn't there?"

Jason snorted. "For once, yeah. Even if the Senate gets nothing done."

The anchor smiled politely. "Let's start with the Relief Act that's currently being voted on in the House."

"Ahh, yes," Jason said, nodding. "Before you ask anything, I want to be clear: I did not write any substantial portion of the Relief Act. Senator Dayton of Virginia and Congressman Ruler from Iowa were the main architects of the bill--I just led the effort to introduce it in the House in order to help out the people of North Dakota."

"Mm." The anchor nodded. "What's interesting to me, is that you led that effort and brought the bill into the House, while repeatedly clashing with North Dakota's Governor, James Burgun, on Twitter."

"Well, that's Twitter. That's politics--Jim Burgun and I are different men, we support different Presidential candidates, but at the core of it, we're both public servants. It would be wrong of me to not try and help in North Dakota just because I don't like Governor Burgun."

"Mmhm, mmhm. Speaking of the Presidential election, I know you've endorsed a candidate--Congresswoman Diane Paulson, from Maine. Why was Congresswoman Paulson your choice, and not one of the other candidates?"

"Well, that's easy. Diane Paulson isn't bound to ultra-conservative, traditional Republican orthodoxy. She's an independent thinker who understands that the fundamental basis of America isn't religion or race, but an ideal: Liberty. I'm supporting her because not only do I agree with her ideals and her stances, but because I believe she's the strongest candidate to beat the Democratic nominee in November 2020."

"Why is that?"

"Because America, as a whole, is moving away from us...from the Republican Party. And I don't blame them. For too long, we've been preoccupied with petty political squabbles and fighting useless culture wars, instead of delivering real prosperity and peace to the American people. Diane Paulson is the candidate to fix that, to swing America from fighting a neverending culture war to fighting for prosperity and freedom for all Americans."

The anchor nodded. "Congressman Evander, what is your opinion of Utah Senator Everett Colbert's recent statements regarding President Wolf?"

"Hm." Jason pursed his lips. "Well, I gotta say, I don't think Senator Colbert is wholly wrong. We the people, including the whole Republican party, have no information regarding President Wolf's condition. There has been zero information from Vice President Tawney, from the First Lady, or from Chairwoman Wolf regarding the President's capacity and condition in months. I don't think President Wolf's gotta resign, but I'd appreciate more openness and transparency."

The anchor nodded again, her plastic smile growing wider. "Well, Congressman, that's all the time we've got today. Thanks for joining us, and good luck in Washington!"

"Mmhm," Jason grunted, waving again at the camera. "Thanks for having me, and I can't wait to come home again! Ezekiel, dad loves you!"

The split screen ended, and the anchor grinned at the camera again. "Now for the weather."

He also ordered a book on Amazon about John Tyler. The Whigs kicked him out after he vetoed their bank bill. He knew it was not going to be good. He didn’t bother to introduce himself to anyone. He just showed up.

“Everitt, come in quickly and take a seat.” He said motioning towards a leather chair facing his desk. He would take his seat again once Colbert had sat down.
