I’ve been warming to the idea of Tim taking the top job. I know he would clash with you on foreign policy, but you two would be a fantastic team on domestic policy.”

"Atang's not leadership material. He's bad at building relationships, but I don't think he'd be able to cultivate the long term respect in the Senate you'd need to climb that ladder anyway. I might keep him in my back pocket in the House for something though..." She hummed a little, before nodding. "Tim's a good guy, and his heart's in the right place on foreign policy. He and I have had our spats but it's not like he's trying to do the wrong thing, I think it's just legitimately not his area. I think he'd be a solid choice."

The Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee was on a mission to expose the corruption of the Wolf and Tawney administrations. Naturally, doing so meant investigating the activities of the top law enforcement official- the Attorney General. With majority members of the House Judiciary Committee by his side, Ibrahim Simpson announced his plans to do just that.

“Hello ladies and gentlemen, members of the press and members of the public. As some of you may know, the Department of Justice under Attorney General Jones announced via the outlet ‘FOX News’ in December its intention to drop all but one charge against former Senator Luke Hawthorne in its investigation into a scandal which has been dubbed, ‘the Midwest Massacre.’ The Attorney General has provided neither the public nor members of the House of Representatives with justification for this act.

So, as of this morning, the House Judiciary Committee has approved a subpoena of Attorney General Jones and other associated parties, summoning said parties to sit before this body and provide testimony to its members regarding its intention to drop charges on Senator Hawthorne while maintaining charges for all other indicted parties. The purpose of this subpoena and subsequent set of hearings will be to determine if this action was in fact justified, or if it was carried out based on partisan interference into the legal process and miscarriage of justice on the part of Attorney General Jones and President Tawney. If the latter proves to be true, I intend to exercise my power as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee to create a Committee Task Force to investigate potential actions to ensure the fair and just enforcement of the law.”

Ibrahim took a sip of water, before finishing.

“Are there any questions from the press?”

"Alexa Yang, CNN. Congressman how important is this hearing to yourself and to the Democratic Leadership since this will be the first major oversight hearing of the DOJ since the Attorney General took office in 2017?"

I just want to make sure there is no foul play going on, either under Attorney General Jones’s direction or under his nose. If he and President Tawney have nothing to hide then they should have nothing to fear about coming before myself, the members of this committee, and ultimately the American people.”

Just want to take a second and say how incredibly proud I am of everyone who has worked on this campaign, in Nevada and around the country. We punched above our weight and exceeded all expectations, this is a truly great achievement. Now its time to take this fight on to Super Tuesday!

ARIZONA BECOMES SECOND STATE IN NATION TO INCREASE SPEED LIMIT TO 85MPH
HIGHEST LIMIT IN NATION ON NON-TOLL HIGHWAYS

By L.M. Grunley
February 22, 2020
BREAKING - Arizona is to become the second state to introduce 85mph speed limits and the first to introduce them on non toll highways in the country. The move follows proposals drafted by the Arizona Department of Transport for an 85mph trial limit on Interstate 40 between Flagstaff and the New Mexico border that have just been signed off by Max Smith, the state's Governor.

The move will result in the speed limit on a 383 mile section of highway in Northeast Arizona being raised from 75mph to 85mph. It will be the first non toll highway in the nation to recieve such a limit, and the second in the nation overall after the SH 130 toll road near Austin in Texas, which increased the speed limit to 85 in 2012.

However, the new limit will not apply to trucks and other HGVs, which will continue to be subject to a 75mph limit, and will not apply at night when the limit will also still be 75mph. The limit will also only be in place for a trial period of 18 months, unless such trial period is extended.

The new limit was supported by Arizona's auto industry, however has been frowned upon by road safety campaigners, tribal leaders (the highway affected runs through the Navajo Nation) and environmental leaders, who say that the new limit is unsafe and will increase pollution.

Caroline shook James' hand. "Thank you for making it on such short notice." Locking the door as she had with Dernilski and asking Christian to make sure they weren't disturbed, she sat down. "I know I don't need to give you a talk on discretion, so I'll cut straight to it. With our current candidates, what're our odds looking like for November?"

Tim leaned back in his chair and stroked his chin, half-nodding at Volek's words. The man certainly had a point––although he personally was backing this effort because of his strong support for consumer rights, it was unlikely that there would be broad agreement within the party about new standards (many Democrats, after all, were receiving fat checks from Big Tech), and any new regulations would definitely scare off more mainstream Republicans like the sitting President.

"Alright then, the language right now is nice and tight, just as I like it. I don't know if there's much else to edit. When would you like me to meet with Levi, and what exactly do you want us to discuss? Unless this is going to the top of the docket, is there a need to get started on this now?"

“Originally, I wanted to have the bill finalized and ready for a vote by April. However, if some recent tweets are to be believed, our Senate candidate in Ohio is open to joining a lawsuit by North Dakota to break up Google. Normally I wouldn’t put much stock in… Twitter pontificatin’... but Vichter’s our man in a key race and Burgun’s an icon among the so-called populist Republicans.”

Karel sipped some water before continuing.

“I’d like you to meet with Levi as soon as possible and discuss if there are other cases you can codify… I’ve only scratched the surface of all the case law that’s built up over the years, and I’m sure there are cases that pack more of a punch, if you get what I’m saying. The Speaker’s given her support… this is definitely going to the top of the docket.”

"Excellent. I'll be sure to schedule a meeting with the man, then...once he shows up back in Washington, of course. The race is heating up though, so who knows when he'll show. In the meantime, I'll have my team research various antitrust cases and see what we can dig up."

Firebrand With Paul Joyce
Episode 201: Moving Goalposts

"Welcome to the Firebrand podcast, this is your favorite host, Paul Joyce. We've got a lot planned for today, I hope you guys are ready, but before we get into all that, I would just like to remind you to subscribe at youtube.com/firebrand. You can, of course, always listen in to our content on Apple Podcasts or Spotify."

"I was debating what to discuss on the show today––I knew I wanted to zone in on infighting within parties, but I couldn't decide which political party to discuss. The focus this week has been on the GOP, given the Nevada caucuses and a big spat between those clowns erupted on Twitter. Loonies like Hypolite Gaspard down in Louisiana, Representative Ruler from Iowa, and, of course, the Wolf Family, just could not keep themselves from a good tug of war on Twitter. It raised some interesting questions about the direction of the Republican Party from here on out, because they're certainly evolving; whether they're ready to move beyond Wolf, whether they are moving back to the neoconservative status quo that defined my days in high school and college, or whether we are now seeing a migration towards a darker, more fascistic Republican populism in elements like Bernie Porter's presidential campaign. His victory in Nevada really does signal a dark turn for the nation, we'll get into that on later episodes."

"What has really gotten lost in all this is, I think, the stark divisions within our own party, the Democratic Party. Look, we know that progressives and conservative Democrats have been at war for the past few years---a war that, I believe, was actually started by folks like Dianne Clifford and her honchos at the DNC. But with new leadership at least in the legislative Democratic arm, it's easy to succumb to the illusion that corporatists have taken a more conciliatory approach to the left. You have so-called 'progressives' working with reactionary forces like Volek and Simone and claiming victory on small reforms. But this is merely an illusion. If you think that the Democratic Party is any less reactionary, any less pro-corporate and ruthlessly capitalist than it was under Clifford and Baharia, you're being duped by a brand of centrism that, I think, is much more dangerous than anything we are used to. Let me explain."

"Right now, our side has the upper hand. We have convincingly defeated the Dayton machine in two out of the three electoral contests that have occurred, which puts the establishment on the back foot. If they don't intervene, Levi is gonna run away with this primary, I guarantee it. But they can't have that, you see. Anything that threatens their donors' pockets, anyone who dares challenge the conventional wisdom and actually harness the power of the people, is in direct conflict with the interests of the Democratic elite. But it's when the centrists are on the back foot that they are most dangerous. We have to stay vigilant, because these next few weeks are gonna get ugly."

"They're gonna sling mud at Levi, that's for sure. But more than that, look what they're doing in Congress. The House is steadily engaging in the neo-imperialist foreign policy of the establishment, look at the massive sanctions packages they've already passed (with huge GOP support) on three countries - Iran, Venezuela, and China. The three nations that are actually challenging U.S. global hegemony, in many ways, are the ones that they're seeking to silence. Instead of thinking about the American people, and instead of acting on domestic policy to secure livelihoods and fight for the poor, the priorities of Caroline Simone lie in crushing the will of nations that dare to pursue alternative narratives to the U.S. They think this kind of strong-arming and American exceptionalism is going to win them votes without having to engage in the popular, populist politics that threatens their donors. It's very telling."

"On the Senate's side, they're being more clever. I expect nothing less of Boss Volek, though; any Tammany Hall alumnus is trained in the ways of deception and tact. They're actually trying to mollify progressives. How? Through some very clever maneuvering. Look at the bipartisan tax cuts they're pushing, the legislation they frame as 'pro-worker.' This does nothing to actually level the playing for the working class, it's another scam to make folks feel like the government is helping them out without actually holding the plutocrats responsible. Think about it---do tax credit expansions require the wealthy to chip in more? Do they actually redistribute our resources? Or do they just let folks keep more of the measly wages that they've already earned? Wages that have been stagnating for the past few decades?"

"Progressives should see the RAISE Act for what it is: a scam. A scam to keep progressives shut and frame Levi Murphy as a raving, unhinged monster when he goes after the Democratic establishment. This is a fake olive branch that the leadership is using to shield themselves from the political revolution they know is coming, make no mistake, they are acutely aware that people are waking up. They know that black Americans who have been imprisoned in their own neighborhoods by pigs, they know that the workers they abandoned with disastrous job-destroying trade deals, they know that the young men and women sent to die in forever wars across the sea --- they know none of these people are gonna fall for their same-old bullshit anymore. So the bullshit has to change."

"Some left-wingers think this is evidence of success. They say, 'look, the leadership is actually scared of us, so they're moving left!' No, that's so naive. Look what year it is. What's the year? 2020, it's an election year. They know they can't afford to lose their base like they did in 2016, so they're pretending to be united in progressive reform. The moment their candidate, Dayton, is in office, they're gonna run away from these positions. Take it from me, I actually believed in Baharia in 2008, I worked on his campaign. Because he sounded like Sam Baginski when he spoke. And then he governed like a Clifford. This is what the Democrats are trying to replicate this time around, in an even more malicious way because they're backing up this farce rhetoric with legislative action."

"So don't fall for it. Don't get complacent. Don't believe, for a second, that the Democratic Party is fighting for you. Because they're not. As long as their pockets are being filled by dark money, it doesn't matter how much you're suffering, how much you're enduring, how much we need them. We have to back up our movement activism with movement politics. And there's no better way to do that than to get out and vote for Levi Murphy this week in South Carolina. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We just have to show up."

"I'm Paul Joyce, this is Firebrand podcast, and we'll be right back for exclusive live coverage of the South Carolina primary this Saturday, Leap Day 2020. I'll be live on the ground in Charleston, I'll be reporting with a few TYT associates, do some interviews, it'll be a blast. You can tune in on our YouTube channel, Instagram, or Facebook page. Until then, all power to the people folks, I'll see you in the Palmetto State!

James made his way to the Speaker's office the first chance he had in response to her email. He entered shook her hand and said "Madame Speaker how can I help you today?"

"Honestly?" Moore said sitting down "Things are upside down right now, if Porter is the nominee we can win but the RNC won't let that happen and without a divided field they actually can stop it. So its Richardson or Tawney if it goes to a contested."

"Richardson v Dayton they will make a play for the Rust Belt again, they can't take Michigan but wisconsin, ohio, pennsylvania... all doable. Florida is getting further out of reach, georgia and arizona were only viable running against a porter or a wolf, and even then barely. Murphy might win the EC but lose the popular vote oddly enough... He puts wisconsin out of reach for the GOP but definitely loses florida... New Hampshire is a real fight, maybe even virginia... but the race could come down to the southwest, nevada, colorado MAYBE New Mexico. The 04 map basically. That being said Murphy is starting to do better with hispanics which is encouraging...."

"My number one concern is african americans... we want to take pennsylvania and we need big black turnout... neither candidate is doing that right now. Dayton can win the black vote in the primary sure and that could win it for her. But in the general i worry we won't see philadelphia african american turnout like we need to."

FROM: [Christian Orbison]
TO: [Paul Joyce]

Dear Mr. Joyce,

The Speaker was very intrigued by your recent podcast regarding internal relationships in the congressional Democratic Party and the motivations behind members of the Leadership in committing to certain actions and movements, and would be delighted to invite you to take coffee with her at the Speaker's Office at the Capitol Building in DC at a time and date mutually convenient. She always has time to communicate with members of the press, especially those published in more democratic formats like podcasting and blogging.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Christian Orbison

Moore shook his head, "Frankly its a fair hit on Dayton. Besides that hit doesn't hurt her nearly as much with the Black vote as you'd think. Mostly younger voters, activists, yes many people of color but mostly the woke crowd."

"As for Porter... If Wolf ran again we would be able to call on unprecedented turnout, and many republicans and moderates in the suburbs flipping... no one would stay home who stayed home in 2016. Wolf would call on plenty more turnout and have the power of the incumbency... without Wolf in the White House our party's motivation would be cut drastically. Porter... we could run that demonization campaign, show him as a bigger threat to democracy than Wolf and on top of that we would win over the reluctant Wolf voters who liked him on the economy. For all his bluster Wolf put together a coalition, got the GOP onboard, and was viewed as a moderate by independents. I don't think Porter can do the same especially when he's all about overturning gay marriage and invading Iran. On top of that Porter does not have any credibility with the African American or Hispanic working class that the GOP spent the past 4 years building for Wolf, btwn criminals justice reform, opportunity zones, the outreach... Wolf made himself incredibly visible for the African American community, and trust me it was paying off."

"I'm not saying we underestimate him... i'm saying he gives us a really good playbook for the general."

"I guess you could say I'm just getting jitters the closer the election is bearing down us. We've got a lot of good people in the House, especially the freshmen. And I don't want to lose this opportunity to take the Senate." Exhaling, Caroline shook her head. "I've been playing the worst case scenario in my head over and over."

@RoughriderGovernor
People said Sec. Bernie Porter will not be capable of winning big cities, but look at what happened in Clark County the biggest county to vote so far! Sec. Porter won that in a landslide!!!
