I’d like to congratulate Governor Richardson on his truly exceptional victory tonight. Iowa’s result shows that the American people, like me, believe that Governor Richardson is the best man to continue the exceptional work done under Presidents Wolf and Tawney in making America great again, and I’m confident that we’ll continue to see that.

Velez Campaign Headquarters, Des Moines, Iowa
(February 3rd, 2020)
Image

There was a solemn atmosphere at the campaign headquarters. They hadn’t expected to do well in Iowa, given its caucus format, lack of minority voters, and other circumstances. But they hadn’t expected to do so poorly. It was truly a wake up call for the campaign- the phones were buzzing, texts and emails were flying. The campaign manager was already discussing diverting funds from New Hampshire and putting them into Nevada, as the Hispanic-heavy state would likely be the Velez campaign’s lifeline.

Fairly early in the night, as soon as it was clear he wouldn’t do well, Velez took to the podium to say a few words to the supporters who had gathered at the headquarters.

“Tonight, we did not win. We did not shock the nation, or build momentum to carry us through this primary cycle. However- we need to be proud of what we did tonight. You need to be proud of the hours of work you put in, from phone calls to door knocking, we gave it our all. More importantly, you should be proud because it is thanks to you and your work that we are STILL IN THIS FIGHT. It’s not over yet- this is just the first inning. We may have struggled tonight, and we will probably struggle in New Hampshire. But ladies and gentlemen, we will persist and we will prevail. Our energy is strong in Nevada, it’s strong in South Carolina. I promise you I will keep giving it my all, because I know you’ve given yours. Thank you, Iowa.”

Porter Concession Speech, Des Moines, Iowa

Image

"The tide is coming. Victory is near. To my supporters in Iowa, I thank you for your commitment! To my supporters in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada, I say we have a great few weeks ahead of us, no doubt! And to my supporters in the rest of America, let us stand together as one and reject the corrupt politics of Nathaniel Richardson! We have outperformed polling, by double digits, my friends! We've beaten the odds when they said we couldn't do it! Do I wish we could've won? Of course I do. Do I lose any hope, do I lose any sleep? No. I don't. Because I know that bright days lie ahead, and that we must stand stalwart against the liberal trojan horse that has occupied our party and seeks to take it from us!

A RINO stands before me, my friends, and I don't mean the one with a horn...At least a literal one."

He paused for the laughter, or at least for effect.

"It is time we come together, and defend the party that we know and love. Stop special interests? Limousine liberals? Bit ironic, considering that he's one himself. I was born to a farmer, he was born to a businessman. I fought in this country's wars, Richardson tears down this country's monuments to them. I didn't come home to this country after fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan to see it destroyed by some silver spoon coastal elite in a red tie! Because who pays him? Washington insiders! Who is he friends with? Lobbyists! Hell, he even married his own campaign manager, that's how close he is to the swamp!

If Wolf drained the swamp, Richardson is drinking straight out of it! He's bribed, he's a puppet - it's plain and simple. Like that man ever stood for anything in his life. He had a silver spoon upbringing, and the world was handed to him. Wolf showed us that that type don't win elections - just ask Clifford, who only succeeded because of her last name, connected to some lecherous old man, what we in this country tell people like her and like him.

Our time is not over yet, my friends! Victory shall come, and it shall come near and far!

Glory to America, and God bless her sons and daughters!"

At the Donaldson campaign headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, John was celebrating the fantastic result in Iowa with his staff. He was overjoyed that he even managed to pick up a delegate, let alone a county. As the crowd grew inside the hall that was rented out, John decided that now was the best time to address the crowd, to give them a short speech. He walked out onto the stage with a massive grin and began waving to the crowd.

"Hello, Iowa! Or rather I should say ¡Hola! Iowa. This is an amazing result for our campaign tonight, a truly amazing result. When I announced my run for the nomination, some of the Washington big whigs laughed us off, laughed in our faces. Well, we showed them tonight Iowa!" John paused while the crowd began to applaud and cheer. "They thought we had a zero per cent chance at winning anywhere, they were wrong. And I would say Iowa that I think we are the real winners from tonight. We won big and now it times to carry on this campaign, I won't be stopping anytime soon!"

"It's time that everyone gets a fair shot at the American dream. So that no matter if you are African American, Hispanic, Native American, Caucasian, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or anything else that you can still make it in this country. We need a country that works for everyone, not just the Washington Insiders. We need to raise the minimum wage federally so that my friends like Andre can actually live on that wage. We have to make sure that no matter your skin color that you are treated equally by our justice system. It is both an issue that is close to both Tracey and I's heart. We have a lot of work to do my friends, but I am ready and willing to work hard for the American people, no matter if you voted for me or not. Let's get to work America! Now onto New Hampshire where will when big!"

"¡Muchas gracias Iowa! Thank you so much, Iowa! It has been an amazing experience meeting you all and thank you for everyone who caucused for the Donaldson Campaign tonight, we couldn't have won it without you!"

Outside, a gentle flurry blew in from Lake Erie. Hitchhiking onto Richardson's victory in Iowa to start his campaign, Paul felt confident that whomever won the primaries would win the General, but he couldn't be sure. Out on stage, a podium stood with a large flag behind it. Earlier that day he spent some time riding around Cleveland, stopping at several bars and diners to greet potential voters. Hopeful that Senator Hawthorne's legacy wouldn't stain his campaign, he stepped out on stage. Thundering applause ensued as he took the podium.

"Howdy, Cleveland!! I'd like to thank all of you for coming tonight. I'd like to start by thanking my campaign staff, my family, and all those who've supported me over the years. I've been around for a long time, and I'm going to tell you; there's a lot of fixing up to do down in Washington. Our family, our friends, and our great state is under attack. Democrats want to raise your taxes, take your guns, and let any Joe, Jim, or Bob who feels like it cross the southern border! They want to ship our jobs to Mexico and China, and let radical socialists like Not-AOC take over the United States. We need to act. We can't bring ourselves down to their level, as some of my Republican colleagues have done. The name-calling, mud-throwing, foot-scraping political landscape of the last few years has to end. For the good of the American people, we've got to return to the days when people of different ideologies could sit at the dinner table and not bring up who said this and who did that. Just turning on the morning news makes any decent American want to throw up their breakfast.

Friends, I'm not going to sit here and act like the world's gonna be perfect. It never was and never will be. What I can tell you, is that if Democrats take control of the Senate this November, alongside the house and possibly even the White House, this country will be on a much worse track than we are now. Amnesty for illegal immigrants, which will flood the country with fresh, new, Democratic voters that will help Karel Volek and Caroline Simone rule as dictators indefinitely. Not to mention their views on taxes. Radicals like Levi Murphy want to RAISE taxes and reverse President Wolf's tax cuts, which benefited Ohio so much! Ever wonder why people are leaving New York and California in droves? Taxes. Taxes. Taxes. It makes you wonder why the Democrats hate the middle class so much. Some have come out and LITERALLY said "Your taxes will be raised."! They'll go up, up, up and never come down. They need more tax money to fund their ridiculous, communist Green New Deal which would WIPE OUT manufacturing jobs and our great energy systems just because they believe the delusion that climate change is caused by humans. Believe me, I'm not a climate change denier - in fact, I'm strongly in favor of keeping climate change under control, however I believe climate change is caused by natural occurrences. I'm sure that comment right there'll be taken out of context in a Bernie Porter ad. But we're not going to get into that, folks.

Again, I'd like to thank you all for coming. We're charging full speed ahead, and we're gonna cross that finish line in November and make it to the United States Senate! (Applause ensues)

-- Now folks, any questions?"

Rodman took a sip of water. Behind him, the American flag was rolled away to reveal a campaign logo. He smiled, and awaited questions.

Levi Murphy
Victory Speech
Davenport, Iowa

Image

The election night party in Davenport, Iowa, was flooding with people. The convention room that the campaign booked for the event was possibly too small for the amount of volunteers and supports that amassed in the crowds. Early in the night, the results looked positive as they began trickling in. It was not long into the count that it looked like the Iowa Caucuses would definitely go for Levi, especially as the results from many of the rural and working-class counties were counted. It reached the point of the night where there was no other possible route for Dayton to win the Iowa caucus and when it was called on the major networks, the Senator decided to give his victory speech to the rowdy crowd. He and his wife came from the back of the convention room, walking the distance from the far end to the stage at the front of the hall. Levi received many hand shakes, pats on the back and chants as he made his way to the stage.

When he reached the podium, he paused and absorbed the atmosphere, before going on to address the jubilant crowd.

"Guess what Iowa: WE DID IT!"

The crowd erupted in applause and cheer. A chant of 'Murphy Murphy Murphy' broke out amongst the crowd, and all Levi could do was smile and wait for the applause to calm a little before continuing.

"I remember back in early 2019 that pundits were very keen to right us off. We're too 'radical' they said. They said that our movement would never recover from being censured by the Republicans in Washington D.C. They said we were done for when the Washington D.C. establishment began to line up behind Dayton. The pundits, the professional talking heads, well, they were still dismissing our movement only yesterday. Not any more, not any more Iowa. Not only did win we convincingly, right across the state, but we have created a political earthquake that that has big money, big business and special interests very worried right now. And they should be!"

"There is a lot of people in this moment that I would like to thank. My field organizers, my campaign managers, the countless numbers of volunteers and campaigners, those small individual donors who powered our campaign towards victory tonight. I'd like to thank our farmers who stood by this campaign to change the rigged rules against family farms. I'd like to thank the working class communities, including here in Davenport, who have joined our fight to raise the minimum wage, bring back our manufacturing jobs from overseas and clean out Washington corruption that has put working people and working families last, in favour of the rich and powerful elite. I'd like to thank the many young people who joined and voted for our campaign today too, we will continue our fight for tuition-free college, cancelling student debt and creating a green future that can create millions of good paying, union jobs. I couldn't have done it without my family either, my wife, my children, you have all supported me through the thick and thin. You were there for me, even when I was miles away from you, it was each of those moments that kept me going through it all. Thank you." Levi went over to kiss his wife on the cheek.

"Today, Iowa has voted for the boldest, most transformative political agenda we have seen since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. We dared to support the common sense policies that most working class people in this country already want, like Medicare for All, universal and free education, an end to the forever wars, breaking up the big monopolies that control our economy and banning corporate influence on our political system. Iowa voted for a $15 dollar minimum wage, a jobs program to create good-paying union jobs in the renewable sector. Iowa voted for the richest 1% to pay their fair share, so that our children and our kids can grow up in an America that we can be proud of. A country that looks after their citizens when they get sick, a country that pays it citizens to not only live, but grow. A country that will protect our natural environment and beauty. I can already hear it now, people calling us crazy for the simplest of asks. Tonight, we have all proven that they were wrong. We overcame big money that has funneled millions into our opponents campaigns, into shady Super PACs to blunt our momentum. Private health insurance companies were at our necks, but we have fought back, and we have won."

"This will only be one of many victories, brothers and sisters. While we have won in Iowa today, there are 49 states more to go. We cannot let the passion and enthusiasm we see tonight dwindle, no, we need to build it into a powerful political force that can send a potent message to the establishment. I believe we are in the strongest position to win the Democratic Primary, and I firmly know that we are the strongest campaign up against whoever the Republicans throw at us. Whether it is Richardson or Porter, our campaign which is built on the backs of working class people, young people, farmers, mothers and fathers, we can beat them. We can beat them in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania - and guess what, we can beat them in Iowa, too!"

"Iowa is the beginning of something big, so I will be continuing to do my part to build our movement," Levi said. He looked down to his watch. "In fact, I am catching a plane in three hours to New Hampshire. We are going to win New Hampshire, my friends! We are going to win in Nevada! And hopefully, we pull off the most spectacular victory in South Carolina to position us well for Super Tuesday. Now, let's continue the battle to create a country that works for the many, not just for the few."

Tim grimaced as he looked at the Iowa results on his phone. He opened the door of the car that had driven him to Dayton HQ, where he walked by reporters, several of whom flocked over to him as they caught sight of his car.

He wasn't sure how the Dayton camp was taking this...it was good news and bad news. Good news, she had outperformed polling and kept it closer than Baharia's win in 2008 over Clifford. Bad news, Levi was predictably getting good press. He briefly slowed his walk and turned to some of the reporters

Senator Westra, do you have any comment about the results tonight?

"I congratulate my friend and colleague Levi Murphy, this is a well-earned and well-deserved result for him."

Any news from the Dayton camp?

"No, I'm not an official advisor or anything, I'm here at HQ to meet with volunteers and supporters to thank them. She's outperformed polling, her chances in New Hampshire are solid, if I was her team I would be feeling good right now. But that's just my take, don't want to put words in her mouth, let's wait for her speech. That's all from me folks, good night."

With that, Tim ignored the barrage of additional questions and entered the building, where crowds of supporters and volunteers were gathered to watch the results live. He was met with some smiles as he shook hands, took some selfies, and thanked them for their help in getting Jillian to this stage. This was not a result that had caught anyone by surprise.

The candidate herself, obviously, was nowhere to be seen at the moment, probably busy preparing concession remarks elsewhere. Still, he shook hands with some of her senior staffers and advisors, with whom he'd been in frequent contact, and informed them that this was a result they had every reason to be moderately pleased about.

After Tim had gone around and spoken with plenty of volunteers, and had been briefed by some Dayton advisors, still awaiting her concession speech, he found a quiet corner and rang up his chief of staff back in Washington.

"Hi, Anne? Yeah, still haven't gotten the chance to speak with Jill, understandably. Listen, make sure you get those tickets for New Hampshire first chance you get. Haven't got a chance to officially coordinate with Dayton staff yet but off the record, I've been informed they want all the help they can get. Who knows, maybe they'll want me to be in Nevada instead, I don't know. But Levi is also squaring in on New Hampshire so I can imagine she needs to hold her big lead there first."

"Yeah, get me those flight tickets. First thing tomorrow morning. Oh, I don't know. Yeah, that's a good idea. I'll ask if I can hitch a ride on the bus, but for now book the tickets for safety. Ok? Oh, and Anne. Inform Volek, I'm not gonna be in Washington for a while."

With that, Tim hung up and informed a staffer he'd like to speak with Dayton the moment she was free. This amount of investment in another politician's campaign for a sitting Senator was probably unusual, but he knew that he needed to be present to secure the promises Jill had made. And then there was the question of the vice presidency, as well.

Tim walked up to a random supporter. "Any place to get a good cheesesteak around here? I'm starvin'."

Laredo, Texas

Linda Lazare Speech
February 2, 2020

Image

Linda Lazare walked along the border, speaking with some of the officials there, getting their opinions on different subjects, and then she went to make her speech in the nearby museum.
"¡Hola Laredo! Fellows and Fellowettes! This is, I believe, my third or fourth trip to the border in my lifetime. Each time I come, I see new faces, old faces, families, and single persons coming across. Eachtime I look at these faces, I see different emotions, fear, anxiety, excitement, happiness and sometimes I see sadness. The people coming across that border, in the way that I see, are doing things the right way. They are coming in legally, they have their passports checked, and none of them are the criminals and rapists that they were once categorized. They all look like nice people to me, people who I might see at the grocery store, tussling with their kids to put that can of spaghetti o's back on the shelf. These people who I describe to you, are the majority of Mexican immigrants, kind, law abiding, AMERICAN CITIZENS.

A round of applause was given to Linda,
These men and women don't seek to harm anyone, they are coming here to make a better life for themselves, just like the pilgrims did, just like the Germans did in the late 1800s, just like the people of St. Domingue did back in the 1700s. What makes them different? Now, i will admit, there is a minority of the Mexican immigrants who came across the border illegally, what do we do with them you might ask? We don't shut the border down, and build a wall like the chinese in ancient times, we strengthen the border, put more security, providing more jobs for the American people, while at the same time, easing up requirements for Legal immigration and making it darn close to impossible to enter illegally."

"I don't think illegal immigration is good like the Republicans like to paint on me, it is unfair to those in England for example, who may have to wait years before they can immigrate to the US legally. I bet, I could ask any Republican five questions that are on the naturalization tests, and barely any of them would be able to answer without googling it. About 16% of Mexican and 21% of other Latino lawful immigrants correctly answered that two tests are part of the U.S. naturalization process, so if we ease up these tests, then more people would be able to come in legally, and less would try to swim across or climb the "wall". Literally, I went online and researched the naturalization test, and most of those I didn't know until maybe middle school if not high school, and yet, these tests are given to people who are coming to find a better life, who may not have a way to research the answers to the test. There is something wrong with that, and if I'm the only candidate in Texas for the Senate seat who sees that, then we have a big problem folks."
Another round of applause,
"We need change, and if the Republicans in congress won't do jack, then we the people have to put our foot down and elect a new person, like me. The Republicans love to say, immigration is not a partisan problem, and yet they almost always refuse to listen to what we democrats have to say, I mean, I have a voice, you have a voice, we have always been told to use it, and yet sometimes that voice is oppressed. We will be heard, and if I am elected in November then I will assure you of that."
A much greater round of applause and cheers came from the crowd as she waved and stepped off of the podium and began walking around and looking in the museum shaking hands with voters, kissing babies, and handing out pens.

Governor Russell E. Long
@RussellLong

We're taking back America, starting here, tonight, in Iowa. #Murphy2020 #TakeBackAmerica @LeviMurphy

Russell had not been idle. Since his visit with Levi in Washington, he'd been working his way through Louisiana, doing his best to tip the scales in Levi's favor in his home state. He'd met with dozens of local notables--city councilmembers, mayors, state legislators, preachers, community leaders and organizers, union leaders and members, and anyone else he could get his hands on. He wheeled and dealed at his best, convincing as many as possible to support the Senator--and when ideology failed, he went to self-interest, making a combination of mostly-empty promises and effective threats.

He also had been stumping and retailing for Levi, knocking doors and making speeches throughout northern Louisiana and occasionally southern Arkansas, reaching out to working-and-lower class voters, preaching Levi's message of economic regrowth and fairness, while avoiding social topics as much as possible.

You just don't give up do you? I heard you went snooping around some parishes very near and dear to my heart over her in Louisiana. I hope Mr. Murphy does good in the Democratic Primaries, it'll be a lot easier for Governor Richardson to win the General. Continue your visit to SW La, we'll welcome you with open arms and angry crowds with torches! Just kidding, we'll do pitchforks instead.
