Name: Gwendolyn (Gwen for short) Sirrade
Age:24
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance:
Image

Mage?: Yes
Bio:
Being the child of wealthy Dascus nobles, Gwen’s life looked like it would be one free of strife and difficulty, reality however, proved to have other plans for the girl. Gwen’s birthing came prematurely and went on to be a litany of complications and problems that ultimately claimed her mother’s life and very nearly took hers too. Wracked with grief and desperation, Gwen’s newly mourning father, an influential lord and respected hero of war, used his contacts and wealth to seek out help from the country’s most prominent physicians and mages. While close, the young child managed to hold on to her life and through dozens of trials, developments and a miracle, managed to emerge victorious against her body's affliction.

Ecstatic at his daughter’s recovery and reeling from the loss of his wife, three years went by before Lord Raullin began to realize a strangeness about his daughter. After the procedure, those involved warned him that his daughter may never fully recover and while alive, could remain frail for life and dependant her pool of magika to survive. But instead of being the vulnerable child he expected, Gwen seemed to continually grow faster and bolder with every new moon and despite her condition, the signs of her magical gifts only became more and more pronounced. Unsure of what to do and fearing for another loss, the lord did the only thing he could and tried to teach her discipline and restraint through military studies.

From then on, Gwen’s upbringing became a blur of studying, sparing, training, and admiring the many heroic tales of old. Stories of individuals facing armies to protect brothers, of farmers rising to defend their homes from monsters and of the world's races uniting to defeat the demonic scourge of old. The stories filled the young girl’s mind and planted a seed that would grow within her, a desire to be like those in the books, a legend. Despite her father’s best efforts, a sense of pride continued to develop within the child and while he was prowd to see her excel at her studies it only went to further her already oversized ego. When she finally came of age, much to her father’s dismay, she left the safety of his side and went off to join the Shotarr knights.

After a gruelling boot camp, Gwen was allowed into the holy army of knights. Starting from the bottom rungs of the order, her ambition, focus and skill quickly propelled her through the ranks. In the skirmishes she was brought into, she fought with unmatched valour, bravery and ferocity as she worked to dispatch her enemies and protect her allies. Away from battle, she spent her time continuing her studies of magic while assisting the scribes and knights with their tasks and working to promote herself and the honour of the knights through assisting the local populace. From the outside, she seemed like the perfect knight but to those that had the misfortune of meeting her, she was stuck up, arrogant and solely focused on her own gain. Though despite her less than desirable personality, her actions gained her attention and while failing to make any friends along the way, ultimately pushed her rapidly up the ranks and resulted in her becoming one of the youngest knights to achieve the rank captain in the order’s history.

It was here however, that she met her downfall. While leading what should have been a simple hunt to track down a group of renegade mages, their targets somehow discovered the knights on their trail and set an ambush in wait. In the end, the over eager captain walked straight into the trap and the group of knights were forced into a fight for their lives. It was in this battle however, that Gwen saw an opportunity, when she spotted the leader of the rogue band and several of his accomplices fleeing from the field as the others held back the order. Making a split-second choice, Gwen abandoned her forces and chased down the fleeing mages alone. Though as fate would have it, she finally met her match and was ultimately defeated in the encounter. Returning to her men empty handed, she unknowingly sealed her fate with the order. Her rise to power garnered her no allies and little love from the men she commanded and abandoning them in a desperate battle only to fail at stealing glory for herself was the final push. When her conduct was formally called into question, dozens came with accusations against her. She was stripped of her rank as captain and excommunicated for breaking her vows of honour. Furious at the ruling, Gwen flung curse after curse at the order and vowed that they would one day beg her to return before being escorted off the site and flung to the streets.

From there, the next chapter of her journey began. No longer an official knight of any faction or kingdom, she wandered alone on the search for glory and fame while performing deeds of heroism and virtue wherever she could (all still in the hopes of growing her prestige). Her journey however, eventually brought her across an out of place goliath woman fighting against a group of bandits trying to steal from an otherwise unguarded trade caravarn. Seeing it as a ripe opportunity, Gwen leapt into the fray and together the duo secured an easy victory. After the fight had ended, the goliath introduced herself as Ylva of the nomadic Pathmaykr clan and before long the two began to share their stories, by the next sunrise the large goliath had made the executive choice that they would continue as a pair. While hesitant at first, Gwen accepted the goliath's company and in time, and after more than a few close calls, a bond of friendship started to form and deepen between them. Now close to a year later, they continue to wander together and even managed to earn enough of a reputation to join the most recent expedition into the ancient temples.

Fighting Style: Spellblade
Abilities:
  • [Swift]: While never the strongest amongst those around her, Gwen has always been quick and precise. Now with years of experience, training and a bit of magical assistance on her side, Gwen can move like a blur on the battlefield darting in and out of enemy lines as she strikes harshly into their flanks and around their defences then pulling back before they have the chance to properly strike back.
  • [Maelstrom of magika]: Gwen has a remarkably large pool of magical energy within her that she been studying to control and direct into the world around her with life force magic.
    Main combat spells;
    - Propel: Launches Gwen in a chosen direction at break-neck speed.
    - Cushion: Creates a solid circle of runic like symbols that can absorb the force of impacts and varies in effectiveness from the energy put into it. (very useful for catching herself after propel)
    - Soul Spear: Fires a spear of raw magical power that can vary greatly in strength, casting time and range depending on the power used.
    - Aura leak: Gwen releases her control and lets her magika run wild. As well as covering herself and her immediate surroundings in burning magical blue flames, her spell casting becomes more powerful though highly erratic (doing this for even a short time though will drain her magika and potentially leave her on death’s door).
Limitations:
  • (Weak constitution): Ever since her birth, Gwen has always been a relatively frail individual. Even after years of training and making it through the Shotarr knight’s rigorous boot camp, she is ultimately physically weak and susceptible to injury.
  • (Stillborn): Complications during her birth should have left Gwen dead upon entering the world but quick actions and decisions from her wealthy, desperate father and her own unnaturally plentiful pool of magika ultimately saved her life. However, her body is now dependant on the flowing magic within her and having it run dry or be nullified would drain her of all strength and could even lead to her death if not allowed to recover quickly.
  • (prideful): While having mostly noble goals and ideals, Gwen is a self-centered, haughty individual with near limitless confidence in her abilities. From this, she can be easily goaded into making poor choices both in and out of combat.
Equipment:
  • [rapier]:
  • [Half-Plate armor]: (Partially shown in appearance image) The half-plate armour offers decent protection over limited parts of her body but allows for nearly unhindered movement.
  • [several magika potions]: A potion made to increase the recovery speed of magika. While it won’t make a difference in combat, Gwen often takes these after long fights or after having her mana drained to help her recover.
Optional Questionnaire
Personal Quest: To earn her place as a hero of legend
Favorite Factions: the knights of shotarr, wanderers
Least Favorite Factions: The Merry Men of the Vine (they’re too loud)
Favorite Memory: Her promotion to captain
Goals: Become a famous hero, re-join the knights of shotarr.
Greatest Fear: Losing control of her magic
Religion: believes in the existence of gods but follows the ways of Magika

Name: Ylva Pathmaykr
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Race: Goliath
Appearance:
Image

Mage?: No
Bio:
Ylva’s story is one best kept simple. She was the first born of Olvir, current chieftain of the nomadic Pathmaykr clan and as such, first in line to lead her people as the next chieftan. Being the most likely heir, her childhood was one of hunts, violence and merrymaking as she learned the ways of her people firsthand. The goliaths often held a strong sense of culture and the Pathmaykr's were no exception, they lived freely as nomads and being a herd of giant like warriors, rarely ran into those brave or foolish enough to try and harm them. They recorded their history and legacies in stories and carvings that they passed down through the generations and while the laws of the harutan were followed, a few exceptions were made as while the clan members were often violent and harsh to one another, it never abandoned its own.

Growing up with such heavy expectations on her, Ylva was met with challenge after challenge as the others tested her right to lead. As she emerged from the challenges victorious and with nearly a dozen younger siblings to take care of (and occasionally beat down) Ylva was steadily recognised as as a powerful warrior amongst her people. But her greatest strength as a leader came in her nature, she met each challenger with honour and ferocity as she handled their request with respect but when the bout was over and a bruised, broken goliath laid before her, she praised their attempts and offered a hand of friendship. Through violence and battle, bonds of trust were formed and over time, the challenges began to stop all together. She had earned the trust of her people. Fights and brawls against her continued unhampered, as they always would in the tribe, but now the focus was joyful and strengthening rather than testing her metal.

When she reached the age of 27, her final trial began. Her father, now contemplating the future, gave her one final challenge. Ylva was tasked to leave the clan, walk the world and find something that would bring them newfound power and strength. It was a right of passage for all chiefs of the tribe and not one taken lightly. Olvir himself took over half a decade to learn of the outside and eventually returned with both riches and a new, fertile land for the tribe to wander and thrive in. The task was not meant to be an easy or short one but was made to ultimately prove the chieftain-to-be as worthy without question.

Knowing what was expected of her and ready to take on the challenge, she was given her father’s war hammer, several days’ worth of food and let loose upon the world. Admittedly more than a little naïve about the workings of the lands, her stature and power kept her mostly safe throughout her travels until on one fateful day, she came across several travelling merchants being robbed by a group of bandits. Seeing it as a chance for exercise and a way to punish those preying upon the unarmed, she spoke a calm greeting to alert them of her presence, then charged into battle. Halfway through the fight however, she noticed several of her foes falling before she had the chance to hit them and come the battle’s end, an interesting individual made herself known. A small, ashen haired human who could move like lightning. Though something about her pride and confidence struck a chord with the goliath and reminded her of home. Despite everything, she found herself enjoying the young woman’s company and saw through her words to her actions and decided to travel along with her. Before long, an apparent legend began to spread about a powerful, nomadic goliath and after close to another year of wandering and adventuring, an invitation to join the coming temple expedition was sent to her. Not wanting to wound her friend’s pride however, she burned the letter and said the call had come for them both, knowing that none in their right mind would question the extra help or the large, war-hammer wielding goliath bringing it.

Fighting Style: Barbarian
Abilities:
  • [Titanic wrath]: Even amongst the other goliaths of her clan, Ylva’s raw strength stood unchallenged. In combat she uses this power to tear apart foes with reckless abandon and protect her allies with unmatched ferocity.
  • [Mountain Spirit]: Goliath’s are well known for their resilience and once again Ylva outshines some of the best from her race. In spirit and body, she is an unbreakable force of will able to shrug off pain, fear and hesitation until her very last breath.
Limitations:
[box]
  • (Arm’s length): While priding herself on being a near unstoppable force of destruction up close, Ylva has no real ranged options in combat and lacks the speed or finesse required to close distances safely.
  • (Friend Maykr): Despite appearances and her innate love of violence, Ylva is quick to trust and fiercely protective of her friends. More dangerously though, her lack of any real shrewd features or traits leaves her easily surprised in battle and far less likely to notice ambushes, traps and betrayals.

Equipment:
  • [Smalls] A monstrously large and crude looking war hammer fashioned from ancient wood and hardened mountain stone. Made for the sole purpose of crushing, its handle is adorned with dozens of intricate carvings made by its many wielders.
  • [carving knife] While not much use in conflict, Ylva carries her carving knife with her at all times as a memento of home.

Optional Questionnaire
Personal Quest: The find something worthy to bring back to her clan
Favorite Factions: The repentant, the merry men, the slayers, the storm chasers, the wanderers
Least Favorite Factions: the Horde (she believes they threaten her people's freedom)
Favorite Memory: Sharing a drink with her first defeated challenger.
Goals: Protect her companions and uphold the pride of her pride of her people.
Greatest Fear:dishonouring her clan
Religion: Harutan

Aaaaannnndddd done. Need to go through the grammar still (will try to get to it tomorow) but other than that here be the first drafts.
Wasn't too sure about how magic should be written up but figured I'd give it a shot and see how it comes out. Anyways, as always let me know if there's anything that seems iffy or like should be changed!

YES! I'm not horrible at this
1. The prediction ability is a bit much and its not clear where or how he gets this power, so I would just do away with it.
done
2.Since they are involved in your bio(which is well done btw) you should probably list the repentant and the dragon killers among favorite and least favorite factions for example
done
3. There are some grammar mistakes in the bio for example "And if he could overcome those obstacles, he lived in the Kingdom of Dascus. He would be expected to a mage, or would get murdered in a week." The meaning of this is unclear. You should work on trying to flesh out your descriptions of situations or environments in the future.
done (I think)
4. I'm unclear what you mean by scarred for life, how he came to be this way and how it serves as a limitation.
done
5. Even if you can't find a picture(we can help you with that later) more of a clear description of things like hair color, height, and other characteristics would be helpful.
How did you guys even find those photos?
Overall, great job for a first try! if you need any help with the edits let us know!
I envy people like you who can write well.

Edit:
there's another one?

Hey, I love that first pic! I have it bookmarked :P

Gwen and Chryssa seem pretty similar (in terms of circumstances, not personality), will be interesting to see how they interact.

I'm not sure the Knights of Shotarr take mages into their ranks (there's nothing against it written in faction blurbs but I'd rather err on the side of caution and wait for Tom's decision) but that aside your apps are pretty good and I don't see anything wrong with either of them.

EDIT: Heard back from Tom, he says that it would be very rare and rub people the wrong way, but allowed nonetheless. So, both apps are accepted!

That link you posted is to the old RP, which died several months ago. Like the name of this thread states, this is a reboot of that RP, with a few changes.

Regarding pictures, I think most of us just nab them out of google images or a few specific image boards; I know I get most of mine from safebooru or zerochan (you can look them up).

Your app looks good to go, you just need to put a picture or a short description (a few sentences or a short paragraph should suffice) in it and it'll be accepted. Like Tomia said earlier if you need any help, feel free to ask.

First of the two crocodile twin apps, the second one will come soon.

Name: Krook Tolasthes
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Race: Thalari (Thal'gol)
Appearance: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/3d/9f/d9/3d9fd9e5602be0b076a812242424174e.jpg
Mage?: No

Bio:
Krook Tolasthes was born in the Great Swamp, an heir to the Tyr'el tribe, or "crocodile-folk". His mother passed away giving birth to him and his twin brother Keagan, the older by fifteen minutes. His father was a respected man within his tribe, somewhat of a leader among the Foresters of the swamp and a popular figure among the reptilian and amphibian tribes that occupied the area. He was a man of great valor, one who wrote several key novels on the subject of Thalai theology and environmental conservation, and often traveled across Eboris regularly to speak in public on the need to protect the wilderness of Eboris. And soon, he was the lone parent of two boys, boys that needed plenty of feeding for their massive bellies.

Despite the terrible tragedy, the family was relatively happy throughout much of Krook's childhood. Few princes held the honor that the two boys held, and no prince had a playroom as big as the Great Swamp. Much of Krook's early childhood was spent enjoying the great outdoors, swimming in the bogs, eating fruit and mushrooms straight from the trees, breaking dozens of bows while practicing archery, hunting everything from frogs and fish to deers and boar, and, of course, studying and cultivating the Thalai. After all, with a theologian for a father, the Thalai was an extremely important aspect of the household, and was often pushed. Krook saw no issue; he loved the environment and his home, and dreamt of becoming a Forester and protecting the land.

However, his twin brother Keagan was not so happy with it. He wanted to see the world outside of the Swamp, and was entranced by tales of magic, often poring over texts about Magika and its applications instead of joining his brother on a buffalo hunt. His father was disappointed by his son's lack of interest in the Thalai, and began to favor and spoil Krook heavily, leaving Keagan further and further disgruntled with his lack of freedom. The day both brothers turned 18, two major events transpired. Krook officially reached adulthood and officially became a Forester of the Great Swamp, and Keagan ran away from home, severing his bond with the Thalai and becoming a sar'ena'thal. Krook and his father's grief was palpable, but they continued to devote themselves to their work, with Krook protecting the Tyr'el's various wetlands and small farms with his deadly accurate shot, and his father starting a new thesis on the culture and history of reptilian Thalari.

Despite the hole in their lives', things were relatively happy for some time, three years to be precise. That is, until the fire. A crazed member of The Holy Order of Fire who had fallen "in love" with Qrodia became convinced that there were holy artifacts that would "win Qrodia's heart". When the Foresters refused to let him in, he started a massive fire, burning through much of the bracken wetland. Krook had been away on an expedition at the time, and he came back to watch his homeland in flames, burning like it never had before. When the fire had finally extinguished, countless had died, including Krook's father. Now, he had lost everyone. His mother and father were dead, and he had no idea where his brother was, he had stopped responding to Krook's letters. However, he refused to let his grief destroy him, and let his homeland remain torched. He took two weeks to grieve, and went right back to work, helping to slowly repair the section of the Great Swamp that had been set ablaze and continue to serve as a Forester. Another three years later, and life was once again looking up. His home was rebuilding itself day after day, he had gotten married, and had even sired a son.

However, this brought on a new issue entirely; money. He had a household to build and a family to feed, and being a Forester, while it was a dream come true, it was a very...selfless job. As such, when a position guarding a research team at the border of Dascus and Tashar opened up, he jumped on it right away.

Fighting Style: He's predominantly an archer, but he can smash some skulls in if push comes to shove.
Abilities:
  • Tyr'el Heritage: Krook is a Tyr'el, which roughly translates to "crocodile-folk". As a result, he has inherited many of the benefits of his heritage, including enhanced strength, endurance, instincts, sight, hearing, and smell. He is equipped with a powerful jaw that can bite down with over 5000 pounds per square inch in modern units, as well as several sharp claws for slashing. In addition, thanks to his powerful, muscular tail and streamlined body, Krook is an excellent swimmer, able to easily top speeds of fifteen modern miles per hour at top speed.

  • Skilled Archer: Upon looking at Krook, one would (very reasonably) think he is a barbarian or warrior of sorts, but in actuality, he's an archer, and a bloody good one at that. For someone with such large limbs, he has a gentle touch and impeccable aim, having used his bow many times to sharpshoot at those who dare endanger the Great Swamp's farms and wetlands. It's hard to hit a target, but it's even harder to miss it by a small enough margin to scare the target away. When shooting to kill while hunting, he prefers to dip and coat his arrows with poisons harvested from the natural plants, herbs, and fungi of the swamp, granting an animal a swift and merciful death in the rare event that he misses.

  • Become the Beast: Much like other Thalari, Krook can adopt his beast form and transform into a massive saltwater crocodile, twenty modern feet in length and full of viciousness. He's swift on both land and water in this more compact form, often using it to glide underwater in total silence. He can freely shift between forms, and hold this beast form with a clear mind for roughly five minutes, and can hold it even longer than that, at the cost of some lucidity.

  • Amateur Potioneer: Krook is no alchemist, but he is quite knowledgeable with natural remedies and mixes. Using natural ingredients such as roots, herbs, leaves, animal byproducts, and other natural pieces of flora, he can make all sorts of salves and medications that work very effectively, despite the bitter taste they contain and slight interference with the digestive system that they create.

Limitations:
  • Inner Limitations: Krook is a peaceful person at heart, and hates to engage in acts of violent or brutal combat. It's why he chose the bow; an arrow to the head or heart is a swift, peaceful end. Crushing one's skull in a massive bite is not. As a result, he is reluctant to use his natural, primitive weapons such as his teeth and claws unless absolutely necessary, and even then, he sometimes doesn't attack with all of his might in the hopes of bringing about a "dignified" death. An honorable personality trait, but not as impressive when you've been slain at the hands of an enemy's blade.

  • Speed and Size: While he is a very powerful and monstrous Thalari, this power comes at the cost of mobility. Due to his bulk and weight, Krook is slow and clunky in his Thalari form, and is an easy target because of how utterly massive he is. In an open environment, this slow speed isn't a major issue, as he can briefly transform into his beast form to quickly move from place to place, but in a smaller, cramped environment, where turning into a twenty-foot-long lizard is not an option, his size is a major hindrance.

  • Beast Form: Certainly, Krook is a powerful Thalari, but he hasn't developed his shapeshifting skills to the point where he has full mastery over his abilities. While he can fluidly transform in and out of his beast form, he can only stay in it for five minutes with clear lucidity and mental control. If he stays within the form any longer, he slowly begins to lose mental clarity and becomes overwhelmed by his instincts. Additionally, the beast form is incredibly draining, requiring massive amounts of energy and food. If he has not consumed enough food or has not had enough rest (for example, if he has switched in and out of his beast form too many times), he will not be able to adopt the beast form.

  • A Man of Nature: Krook can make natural blends and potions, but he's no alchemist. He's incapable of using magic or treating ingredients in such a way that they release it, and his creations are no replacement for a magika-infused potion or healing spell. They are excellent laxatives, but not great as powerful substances.

Equipment:
  • Armor: Krook wears a suit of light armor that was bestowed to him as a parting gift from his fellow Foresters. The heaviest part the armor is a bascinet-style helmet that covers most of his head, leaving a small space for his eyes and snout. The rest of it is very light to allow for flexible movement on the battlefield, consisting of just a sleeveless, padded gambeson that is reinforced with some thin chainmail, as well as thin trousers and thick, steely boots. It isn't the best armor, but compared to the many soldiers who rush into battle without any sort of armor, it's certainly a step up.

  • Weapons: Krook's primary weapon is a massive bow in both frame and draw length, a 16th birthday present from his father that was custom-built to accommodate for his superhuman size and strength. It is made of strong, supple yew, plated with silver and studded with rubies. The arrows are made from wooden shafts with steel tips, feathered with the down of a heron.

Optional Questionnaire

Personal Quest: To reunite with his brother and convince him to come back home to the Swamp.

Favorite Factions: The Foresters, The Repentant, The Merry Men of the Vine, The Knights of Shotarr, and Oadot's Chosen. Generally, anyone who at least somewhat cares for the environment is a friend of his.

Least Favorite Factions: The Order of Evrouin, the Magi Consortium, The Holy Order of Fire. The latter is especially pertinent, as they are responsible for his father's death, even if he does not blame individual members.

Favorite Memory: Holding his son in his arms for the first time.

Goals: Krook has three main goals. Firstly, he wishes to keep the Great Swamp's natural habitats healthy and prosperous, and make sure no natural environments are damaged in the hunt for magical artifacts in the same way his home was. Secondly, he wants to help end the negative stereotype that Foresters are a bunch of uneducated fools who hinder the world's progress. Finally, he wants to publish his father's final novel, and carry out his last wishes.

Greatest Fear: That he will come home and find that he has lost another loved one, this time his wife and child.

Religion: Thalai
yea bro idk

Name: Sir Oscar the Wise | The Iron-Handed Knight
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible): Here
Mage?: Yes
Bio: The story of Sir Oscar the Wise had humbler origins than one might expect from a respected figure within the Order of Evrouin: it begins with the tale of Oscar, the peasant boy. Oscar was born in the farming town of Redhill as the son of the town blacksmith, Alfric, and his wife Erin. He had a brother six years his elder named Owen as well, and the two would often play with their father's tools while pretending to be knights, much to the blacksmith's chagrin. In fact, since his early years Oscar seemed to take particular interest not only in swords and battles, but in tales of brave knights and daring adventures. He would absorb these stories like a plant absorbs sunlight, and none interested him more than the stories pertaining to the gallant knights of the Order of Evrouin, the Dragon Killers. He came to admire and revere figures such as the heroine of Redaran, Helen Farrow; the enigmatic beastman hero known only as Old Wolf; and even the legendary first Dragon Killer, Garland Godsbrand, said to have been trained by Zoros himself to take down the dreaded Rog Balam, tyrant beast of the Dracian Mountains.

Young Oscar dreamed to become a hero like those famed Dragon Killers, but deep down inside he knew that it wouldn't happen. Him? A peasant boy, the blacksmith's son? What hopes did he have of becoming one? How would he even pass their rite of initiation, the hunt for dragon blood? He knew the disheartening answers to all of these questions, and so, as he and Owen started growing up and his father began putting them to work and teaching them about the family trade, these dreams and fancies slowly began to fade away, Oscar resigning himself to a tranquil unremarkable life.

That is, until he turned ten.

When out gathering some firewood for the house one night, the young boy saw sparks coming out of his fingers. He immediately ran to tell his father, excited about this newfound ability and what it could mean for him. After all, though his dreams were of becoming a Dragon Killer, any boy who fancied tales about knights and heroes would have heard about the Enchanter Order, whose mage knights were the backbone of the imperial army. However, rather than being excited for his son's future, Alfric was distraught. He explained that he needed him and Owen here to help him run the workshop and eventually take it over and take care of their mother when he was gone, and expressly forbade his younger son from using his talents in public.

So, of course, Oscar ran from home. Escaped in the dead of night one day and followed the path to the nearby town of Rittland, where he traded some stolen tools for passage to the capital. Upon reaching his destination, he ran up to the nearest city guard he saw and explained the situation to him. Unfortunately, the guard was less than sympathetic. It was not unheard of for lowborn children to claim they had magical abilities in order to get free food and lodging in the headquarters of the Order, so the guard, understandably skeptical, asked for a practical demonstration. Oscar confidently agreed and began trying to manifest sparks once again. After all, he had already done it once, how hard could it be to get a repeat?

Very hard as it turns out. The boy simply stood there for several minutes while holding his hands in front of him and scowling at them, while an increasingly bored and annoyed guard glared at him. Suddenly, a nearby commotion caught the guard's attention, and he ran off to attempt to stop a street brawl, leaving Oscar by himself. The boy angrily stomped on the cobblestone floor beneath his feet and suddenly noticed a tingling on his hands. When he looked down, he noticed that they were sparking again, which only served to further enrage him.

Suddenly, someone tapped him on the shoulder and the boy whirled around, seeing a girl about his age with glossy white hair and big blue eyes; her tidy, well-kept appearance made her seem like a noble, but she wore an uniform of some sort instead of a silken dress. She introduced herself as Elesia and told the boy to accompany him, which he did. Much to his surprise, she led him straight to the Order's headquarters next to the royal palace, where a professional battle mage trained in the Sight confirmed that Oscar indeed possessed the gift of magic.

From that day onwards, his training with sword and spell began, and he showed incredible aptitude for a peasant boy who had only ever wielded sticks and stones before. He also often met Elesia on the training grounds - while they were the same age, she had two years of training on him, as her magic had manifested when she was eight. Even then, Oscar struggled to catch up to her and match her pacing, which, along with his drive to become powerful enough to join the ranks of a Dragon Killer, was part of the reason he excelled at his training. His friendly rivalry with Elesia soon turned into a close friendship, and, as the years passed and the two matured, it eventually blossomed into a textbook romance.

Finally, when he was eighteen years old, he managed to graduate early from his Enchanter training - most people, like Elesia, graduated after ten, whether because they were not as talented or, as in her case, because they wanted to ensure that they had learned everything there was to learn, but he was far too eager to pursue his dreams to wait two years longer, and he passed his exam with flying colors.

With that, Oscar was free to either join the imperial army or pursue his own goals. He bade farewell to his beloved, knowing that their destinies were about to part ways - she was a noble and would return to her family's estate as a battle mage, to wait for further orders and serve the Emperor, while he was a young man without a home to call his own and the desire to travel the world under the banner of the bow and the wolf.

However, his quest to join the Order of Evrouin was far from over, and now he would face his biggest challenge yet: harvesting a dragon's blood. Visiting the headquarters of the Order in Varum, Oscar found some like-minded youths and information on where to find a dragon: the town of Greywald, bordering the Barrier Mountains, had reported being attacked by one. Oscar and his small party headed there and were well-received by the townspeople, who were happy to see someone come to their aid. However, the group was torn on how to act next. Some of them wanted to set up traps in the terrain surrounding the town so that they could have an advantage over the dragon the next time it attacked, while others, Oscar among them, wanted to take the battle directly to the beast's lair. Waiting for it to attack felt like using the village as bait, which didn't sit well with him.

Oscar's side eventually won the discussion and the group began traversing the Barrier Mountains that separated Tashar from Hercynia in search of the dragon's lair. It took several days, but when they found it, they realized that they were very much out of their depth. The dragon in question was an Iris Dragon, the deadliest brood still extant in Eboris. As soon as it detected intruders in its lair, its fire breath incinerated two of Oscar's companion, and the rest immediately ran to try and find shelter in one of the mountain range's caverns and crevices, hoping to regroup and plan their next move. However, by the next hour, he was the only one left, and severely wounded, too: the dragon's claws had raked through his chest and torso, and he had lost a hand to its voracious maw. It was a miracle that he had managed to survive so long with such injuries.

Finally, fortune decided to give him a respite, or perhaps destiny intervened to ensure his survival. Whatever the case, the dragon walked by his hideout without noticing him, and at that moment, Oscar mustered his remaining strength to plunge his sword deep into the beast's chest. The creature roared and flailed in agony before backing away from him. Though its heart had been pierced, it clearly still had some life in it, and prepared to let loose another stream of flames from its maw. Desperate and knowing what was coming, Oscar performed an act that was labeled as forbidden in the old legends and stories about dragons and their slayers. He drank the blood that coated his sword.

The dragon breathed fire upon him, and Oscar screamed in agony, but not because of the flames. Drinking the dragon's blood seared his wounds shut and caused him an unfathomable pain, but protected him from the flames. A few moments afterwards, Oscar cut off the dragon's head, ending its flames and its reign of terror forever.

He collapsed afterwards, but woke up a few days later in Greywald. A seasoned Dragon Killer had been dispatched to take care of the issue in case none of the candidates returned, and had found the boy unconscious next to the dragon's corpse. Impressed, the Dragon Killer harvested the dragon's blood on his behalf, carried him to safety and congratulated him on a job well done when he woke up. Though the endorsement rang hollow after all the wounds he had sustained and the companions he had lost, he took solace in the fact that he had finally done it.

He had passed their test. He would become a Dragon Killer.

The next day, he and his savior were on the road back towards Varum, and come next week he had received his boon, his cape, and the iron hand that earned him his nickname among his peers. However, reality was quick to set in: even though he had achieved his goal of joining the Order of Evrouin, he'd be hard pressed to become a figure of legend like his heroes. He had lost his dominant hand and his swordsmanship suffered for it, not to mention the fact that his wounds didn't seem to heal properly, even with the aid of a high priest from the Chosen. Limited thus, he knew he wouldn't be able to face off against fearsome beasts and wandering monsters on his own.

That is why, upon joining, he began spending his time in other ways. He began focusing on magic instead of martial prowess and honed his craft so that it would serve him where his sword could not. He mingled with the officers, and learned of the inner workings of the order and of leadership on the battlefield. He served as a liaison to the people, hearing their words of gratitude as well as the issues that they had with the order. And yes, sometimes he dealt with problems that required force, using his magic to deal with packs of beasts encroching on small roadside villages, or leading a group of his fellow Dragon Killers on a dragon hunt. His amiable nature coupled with his reputation for being measured and perceptive and his use of magic over weaponry led to him earning his epithet. He was thenceforth known as Sir Oscar the Wise.

He has now served in the Order of Evrouin for eleven, almost twelve years, earning quite a bit of renown as an approachable Dragon Killer and a prominent member of the reformist movement, a group of members of the Order of Evrouin who want to reform the organization so that they can better protect the people and deal with corruption and complacency within their ranks. He has grown disheartened in the pursuit of his childhood dream of becoming a legendary hero, but in turn he has devoted all his time and effort to making Eboris a safer place.
Fighting Style: Magician (primarily offensive)
Abilities:
  • [Swordfighting]: He's not very good at it anymore, for obvious reasons, and he only brandishes Lionheart as a last resort, but all his ailments haven't taken from Oscar the ability of a master swordsman to analyze his foes, predict attacks and look for openings. He is keenly aware of his surroundings in battle and his instincts are as sharp as ever, even if he can no longer move as quickly as he once could.
  • [The Sight]: One of the few abilities particular to the Enchanter Order and its trainees which the Consortium hasn't been able to replicate, The Sight is a sixth sense of sorts that aids Oscar in detecting sources of magika, residual magika from spells, and other individuals with the gift of magic. It helps in analyzing spells and estimating the power of other magicians as well, which is useful when battling rogue sorcerers.
  • [Spellcasting]: Oscar's main asset is his ability to use magic. In the past he combined this with his martial prowess to deadly effect, but now he relies purely on his spells. He has a widely varied arsenal of spells at his disposal, and while he specializes in elemental magic (particularly storm magic) to attack his foes and affect the terrain to his advantage, he has mastered a few non-elemental spells such as curses, force spells and even the occasional utility spell - levitation in particular is useful to him, and healing minor injuries can ward off infections during long journeys.
  • [Blood of the Dragon]: For all the trouble it has brought him, drinking untreated dragon blood has given Oscar a single boon: complete immunity to fire and burning, beyond what his fellow Dragon Killers possess and permanent in nature.
  • [Zoros' Blessing]: For his deed in slaying the mighty Iris Dragon, Oscar was awarded a very powerful blessing, and his aura of white flames is quite a sight to behold. While he no longer has much use in coating his weapon with it, he can still use it to defend himself.
  • [The Gift of Song]: A bohemian at heart, Oscar quite enjoys music, song and merrymaking. Over the years this has led to him developing a remarkable singing voice.

Limitations:
  • Most evident among Oscar's many ailments is the lack of his left hand, which he lost to the Iris Dragon. As he is (or was) left-handed, this means he can no longer wield his sword as well as he used to, and has trouble with basic activities such as writing.
  • Needless to say, this also means he can't use his sword and shield at the same time. The only reason he bothers carrying a buckler is because it's a memento of sorts and in case he needs to defend himself more than he needs to fight back.
  • As a result of drinking the untreated blood of the Iris Dragon, Oscar was afflicted with its curse, which means that the injuries he sustained during that battle never fully healed. This causes him chronic pain and has severely hampered his stamina. He cannot walk for very long without rest and swimming or sprinting is very difficult; attempting to fight tires him quickly and the pain can often mess with his concentration while spellcasting.
  • He also does not wear armor, as the weight wears him out very quickly. As a result, he's vulnerable to swords and arrows.
  • Due to the above, Oscar is overall a poor fighter up close, a far cry from his days of glory when he had just graduated from his training in the Enchanter Order. While he still retains a great deal of practical knowledge on how to use a sword and handle himself in a fight, the curse of the dragon has made it so that, in practice, this knowledge is only useful to lead men in a battle or give pointers to someone in need of training.
  • His divine boon from Zoros, while very powerful, can only manifest as an aura of white flames that covers Oscar's body and his weapon, meaning that it is only useful at close range. As Oscar is someone who avoids fighting at close range when possible, this is rarely useful.
  • His immunity to fire is not without its downsides. Another aspect of the dragon's curse is that he quickly grows weaker in the cold and struggles to maintain his body heat.
  • The Sight, as the name indicates, requires him to see to be useful. If he is blinded, or if whatever he wants to analyze is out of sight, then it's no good.
  • He just can't seem to grow a beard. One of the many regrets in his life.

Equipment:
  • [Lionheart]: Oscar's trusty blade, forged for him after his initiation into the Order. While it's no longer very useful for him as a weapon, its true strength lies in the damirite core forged into the hilt, which greatly amplifies Oscar's spellcasting abilities, making him a greater threat than he would otherwise be.
  • [The Iron Hand]: Exactly what it says on the tin, with the sole caveat that the iron was runeforged to produce a powerful electrical current (that doesn't affect Oscar himself, of course). As it's only useful at melee range, this is more often a last resort than a strategical boon - it can be used with no ill effects even if he has exhausted his boon and his magika reserves.
  • An old buckler
  • A carving knife
  • A flask of Sualdir's Draught

Optional Questionnaire
Personal Quest: To protect the people of Eboris from dangerous beasts and other threats
Favorite Factions: The Enchanter Order, the Repentant, the Merry Men of the Vine
Least Favorite Factions: Faenar's Faithful, Haruza's Horde, the Magi Consortium, the Foresters
Favorite Memory: The night he laid with his first love, Elesia
Goals: He hopes to still become a legend like his heroes, though he has grown to doubt that he can
Greatest Fear: Dying old, sick and forgotten
Religion: Pantheon

Is the IC started yet?

If not, I might hop back in.
I use my NationStates stats, because a population of billions/trillions and an economy of hundreds of trillions is totally viable, trust me.
But seriously, aside from the population and GDP, just assume that my NS stats are roughly accurate.

If you mean how many characters you can app, I can answer that :P as many as you think you can handle really. We don't have a hard limit for this sort of thing. Though even if you're a very active poster, I'd advise you not to go over four.

(If you mean the character limit on NS posts it's 60k characters)

Name: Doctor Vissra “Vis” Montresor
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible):
Image

Image

Mage?: No
Bio: Born in a small town in one of the Empire of Tashar's colonies, Vissra lived a quiet life with her parents and her younger sister during the early years...her father Adrian was a traveling businessman who was often on assignment so her mother Sirin devoted herself to caring for her home and for the girls. Adrian was an ambitious social climber, and wanted the high life not only for himself, but for his two daughters as well and so he would try to use his wealth and business connections to establish opportunities for them. He made sure that they were well educated and cultivated their graces to maybe attract aristocratic husbands one day, but also wanted them to make their own names in the world. Her sister Viera took over their mother's dressmaking business and eventually got to the Imperial capital where she set up a bigger shop, meanwhile Vissra went into the medical field.

She always knew that she'd wanted to help people so she stuck closer to home and found a local doctor to train under, an old army medic and alchemist named Doctor Frederic Jansen. Studying under him from the moment she turned seventeen, it wasn't glamorous at all. Dr. Jansen was all about hands-on practice and getting out there in the field, treating patients up close and studying autopsy sessions in order to learn about the cause and spread of disease. Once her internship was over at the age of 22, she set up her own practice in the village and started working from there. Vissra was asked about the proposition of entering the army as a medic, but she refused as she believed that patients were patients, no matter what side anybody was fighting for. Things carried on pretty normally, until those years passed and the undead scourge came.

Soldiers started flooding the town, many chalked it up as the Emperor defending his claim or maybe war with another country on the horizon, this many men were certainly not needed to put down something as simple as a local rebellion...but one day, the people saw it. A body of horrible, twisted form and giving off an ungodly aura was shot down by a local guard, and you didn't have to be a genius to recognize it for what it was. Demonic, evil. This thing had crawled up from the depths of the underworld to destroy the empire, and maybe all life on the continent...but strangely enough it wasn't demonic. Upon examination, this was a human body. Once alive, but brought back by powerful sorcery for some sort of unholy purpose. Many have heard the saying "where there's smoke, there's fire..." that couldn't be any more true in the case of necromancers and their hordes. They don't come up to the surface alone, if one had come then certainly more would follow. Follow they did, and more quickly than anybody would've liked or predicted. Quickly, research was done into finding the culprit...and it took quite a while, but the mages were able to trace the source of the attack back not to some malicious cult or an uprising against the empire, but a young necromancer whose desperation had gone wrong. The girl had lost her dearest friend in a raid on her own nearby town, and the response from the empire there was less than underwhelming. Racked with grief, she'd stolen some tomes from her Butterfly faction mother in an attempt to bring her friend back to life, but her inexperienced magic had made things go south...and badly. Something made the ritual go out of whack, and instead of her friend revived, the girl had died in a brutal way and swarms of undead started rising.
The medics were kept busy treating both soldiers and civilians, working alongside the mages who were doubling their efforts to curtail and stop this scourge as more undead started attacking,..not only that, but people started mysteriously sickening. Whether it was from the foul magic or perhaps the rotting bodies, it was pretty hard to tell. The plague fell like a blight over the town, and despite the best efforts of everyone involved to the point of even the Emperor sending physicians from corners of the empire, it didn't seem to let up any. It would spread rapidly if left untreated, but the best everyone could do was attempt to keep it contained. Vissra was doing research into a possible cure for this plague when she heard about the discovery of the artifact and some research to be done on an ancient temple. The research team assigned would need assistance, so she jumped on the chance. If this artifact were as powerful as it were claimed, perhaps it could be the answer to curing the plague and bringing her town back to some sense of normalcy...thus she joined the team.

Fighting Style (Warrior, Mage, Archer, etc):: She's not a warrior, but learning from a retired alchemist and soldier meant she learned how to brew all sorts of potions. Her primary mode of attack are corrosive chemicals and liquids: usually bomb potions, glass vials filled with a flammable liquid that burns on contact with air or acid potions...and also she wields a pair of daggers for self-defense.
Abilities:
  • [Experienced Physician]: She's a highly trained doctor with a knowledge of wounds, disease, the body...and thus more likely than not can stop you from dying.
  • [Potioneer]: Training under an alchemist has given her the knowledge of how to craft potions and medicines, both to harm and to heal. Both an herbal tonic and liquid fire that can incinerate enemies, if she has the ingredients on hand she can fix it up. She calls it "cooking."
  • [Botanist]: She has an extensive knowledge of herbs and plants due to having to gather ingredients in order to make medicine. Unfortunately, that also means she also knows which plants are able to get you high (don't ask).
  • [Not a Rogue But I Can Pretend]: She has a pair of daggers that she can wield easily enough to defend herself, but that's about it. She's not a fighter so she's learned how to be quick and agile in order to keep her own head on her shoulders.

Limitations (Reasons why your char can’t singlehandedly conquer a kingdom):
  • (Not your Supergirl: She knows how to fight just enough to not die. That's it, that's the extent of her combat skills. Don't count on her to go charging into battle and lopping heads off, she's fine being the sideline hoe.)
  • (Muggle Rights Matter: She does not have a SINGLE drop of raw magical blood in her...she knows alchemy, but don't expect her to conjure tornadoes or summon lightning. Deep reservoir of mana? Try like a fifth of a kiddie pool.)
(Note, you do not have a maximum or minimum of 2 limitations. If you don’t need all those, delete them. If you need more, copy and paste.)

Equipment:
  • [Claw and Fang]: Her two daggers, picked 'em up from the local blacksmith and named to be edgy. They're glorified steak knives with fancy patterns but they get the job done so she loves them anyway.
  • [Bombs Away]: Has potion vials filled with some liquid fire concoction, acid, and all other horrors of liquids that all say one thing: fuck off.
  • Herbs and Spices: Just your classic medicine ingredients, some poisons, and some "interesting ones that do cool shit"...aka, the stash she doesn't tell anyone about unless you agree to not tell anyone about it.
  • Comforts of Home: Food and water so she doesn't starve, some extra clothes and a sleeping roll

Optional Questionnaire
Personal Quest: To cure the plague going on in her town and find a way to stop the undead problem.
Favorite Factions: Oadot's Chosen
Least Favorite Factions: Doesn't really have one, seeing as they're all grey in a way.
Favorite Memory: When she finally graduated from med school...er, apprenticeship.
Goals: To help as many people as she can and form her own guild where she can train more doctors serving a personal code rather than any one side.
Greatest Fear: That she won't be able to stop this plague in time
Religion: The Pantheon

Looks good so far Ceystile, but I'm afraid I have to make a correction here. The demons haven't attacked; the last time they were seen was over a thousand years ago and they've mostly faded into myth. The expedition is just to explore the ancient temple, not to quash the demons since they haven't shown up (that'll happen later).

Hello, everyone.

I'm not generally a guy for text-based roleplays in personally-generated fantasy worlds, but I'll give this one a shot. Give me a moment to make an app!

Name: Werakoya Eyeketrau
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Race: Goliath

Mage?: No
Bio:
Fighting Style (Warrior, Mage, Archer, etc): Rogue
Abilities: Werakoya was cast out from her family at a very early age. She grew up with the life of an orphan in a human settlement in Dascus and was hired by the local Street Crawlers. You see, she was desperate for a means to keep her large stomach full, and they were desperate for someone with enough strength to break the tough locks and brute force through the tougher situations. Everyone involved quickly learned, however, that Werakoya was not cut out for the life of a thief. No matter how many tricks of the trade they taught her, she was always too clumsy and too... well, big to keep hiding in the shadows. The only reason why she stayed on so long was because the more experienced rogues sacrificed their freedom to get the guards off her tail and keep their strong-woman active. Thus she led to the capture and dissolution of the entire guild, finally banished from the city in which she grew up.

She travelled though Dascus, taking up small jobs: a farmhand, a miner, a traveling performer. Things that required strength and easily-learnable talent. None of the jobs lasted more than a year, and few of them lasted more than a season. All the while, she honed her craft as the sole free survivor of her thieves' guild. The sole survivor. The new chapter of Street Crawlers that settled in Dascus isn't worthy to wear the same name. Her glimpse of good fortune came when a royal Dascian official noticed her skill at crafting small, handheld traps. She wasn't a natural, but she knew exactly where to find problems with the traps. The Dascians needed a representative who could find the relevant booby traps inside the ancient temple. She was offered a position on the spot, and she hesitatingly accepted. Whether this would be just another seasonal gig was a matter to be determined.
  • Loose Twig: She can point out any error in any set of machinations as a way to confound the trap. She has to notice the trap first, and even then it will take her some time. If the contraption is anything short of flawless, however, she will find it out.
  • Not So Secret Anymore: She can find a secret entrance and, if possible to reach by foot, remove all barriers to entry. The obstacle would be removed by means of strength and by no other way; if impossible to move via strength, it cannot be moved.
  • Silence and Noise: She can adjust the volume of her voice and actions to be as quiet or as loud as she sees fit. This does not affect her visual profile, just her auditory profile.
  • Whittle: She can take a small pieces of metal and wood and fashion a mechanism, about the size of a human hand, of poor quality. The mechanism must have been seen before and must be able to be replicated without the work of machines or like tools.

Limitations:
  • Clumsiness: Werakoya has a big and bulky frame, and she spent her entire life trying to fit into crammed and inescapable situations. It's not for lack of trying or experience that she gets stuck all the time; she's just naturally clumsy.
    [box]
    • Chains of the Past: The loss of her biological, orphan, and professional families have given her a mild depression. Her happy and optimistic personality is a facade. As a result, she makes acquaintances with everyone but doesn't quite get to the level of friendship with anyone.
      [box]
      • Not Quite Right: Even though she can find flaws in the work of others, she can't replicate the work of others perfectly. She can't set up functional traps larger than a human hand, even if she's seen them before.
        [box]
        • Timidity: Her strong will had been beaten into submission by her guild, to the point where her future employers had to reteach her self-confidence. Regardless of will, she is a natural follower and can be convinced to do just about anything (within reason).

Equipment:
  • Crowbar
  • Wire Cutters
  • Palette Knife
  • Ball Bearings

Optional Questionnaire
Favorite Factions: Bank of Ashar, Wanderers
Least Favorite Factions: Street Crawlers, Haruza's Horde, Honor Guild
Favorite Memory: Playing marbles with fellow orphans
Greatest Fear: Getting her compatriots killed, dying alone

I use my NationStates stats, because a population of billions/trillions and an economy of hundreds of trillions is totally viable, trust me.
But seriously, aside from the population and GDP, just assume that my NS stats are roughly accurate.
