Scotatrovian Government approves States to move into Phase 1

As of May 26, there are 331,754 total cases, 18,339 deaths and 135,688 recoveries in Scotatrova.

The Minister of Health, Pablo Abasto, announced at a press conference that 14 states are advancing to Phase 1. This is reflected in the map that accompanies these lines, which reflects that 39% of Scotatrova is in Phase 1, while the remaining 61% are still in Phase 0. States such as Alleuze, Vulra, Elejalde, Lezama, Ibaea and Roisel, as of Monday, May 25, will enjoy new relief in confinement. However, for now Atalon, Cortana, Cadecia and Monce, among others have been denied permission to move to Phase 1 of de-escalation because they haven’t yet met the government’s COVID-19 health markers. For now its citizens and businesses will have to continue to respect the rules restricted to Phase 0, which means that no bars/restaurants can open their doors to the public yet. Businesses that have been allowed to open in Phase 0, must also continue to serve by ‘appointment only.’

Those states entering in Phase 1, however, will have more restrictions lifted, allowing social gatherings of up to 10 people, as long as social distancing measures can be guaranteed. In Phase 1, businesses can serve customers with safety measures in places. For example, cafes, bars and restaurant terraces can open 50 per cent of terrace capacity to customers. Hotels and tourist accommodation can also open so long as they keep common areas, such as dining/buffet areas closed. Places of worship may also open at 30 per cent capacity and funeral services may be held with a limited number of mourners. Cultural events involving under 30 people can be held indoors at a third of capacity, and outdoor cultural events can entertain up to 200 people (seated). Museums may open also open at a third of capacity. Non-professional sports are also allowed in Phase 1 for activities that do not involve physical contact or the use of changing rooms. Outdoor markets may also operate so long as stands are spaced apart.

On Board the U.S.S Batavia, Command Ship of the Batavia Squadron, and the US First Fleet

”Rear Admiral Hauser! We’re entering the Taluecema System.”

The Warrant Officer’s announcement dragged Nicole back to reality in her office. Officially Rear Admiral Nicole Hauser, she was the commanding officer in charge of the U.S Fleet now entering the Taluecema System. Her Fleet was escorting several Army Corps from Ohio and Tennessee to the surface, who would be destroyed reported hostile munitions and fuel depots scattered across the surface. Now that they were in system, her staff needed to report to the Naval General Staff back home, and devise a strategy to secure space superiority in system before the ground campaign could begin.

”Thank you, Warrant Officer Perkins,” Rear Admiral Hauser let slip. ”Inform Naval Command of our arrival, than report downstairs to the Battle Bridge.”

”Yes, ma’am.” The Warrant Officer stated, before disappearing down the hallway to the ship’s communications center. Grudgingly, she stood from her desk, and began the trek to the turbolift that would take her down to the battle bridge.

Rear Admiral walked down the corridor, taking the seemingly endless corridor to the turbolifts at the center of the spire. She was aboard the U.S.S Batavia, a Saratoga Class Starcraft Carrier, a three kilometer long warship that was currently serving as the flagship of the U.S Navy’s First Fleet. Unlike her sister classes, the Delaware Class Battlecruisers and the Altacado Class Assault Carriers, the Saratoga Class featured two massive, retractable doors on the topside of the ship’s spine, which when opened, revealed the 600 meter long flight deck, as well as the dozen hanger bays on each side, adjacent to the main flight deck, that housed the ship’s complement of fighters. Though a powerful and efficient carrier, the massive retractable doors proved to create too exposure for enemy combatants, hence the ship’s escorts and role as a command vessel.

As the Rear Admiral reached the turbolift at the center of the spire, the blast-proof window opposite the turbolifts provided an excellent view of the U.S.S Pagosa[i], one of the many [i]Colorado Class Cruisers that not only escorted starcraft carriers such as the one she commanded, but served excellently as a ship of the line. Unlike her carrier, the Colorado Class Cruisers were much smaller, approximately half as long. Yet, the Colorado Class did not have a need for massive hangars on its spine, and therefore gave the enemy no exposure to its interior bays. This, coupled with the dozen Octuple Barbette Turbolaser Batteries, dozens of point defense cannons, and multiple torpedo tubes; gave a line of Colorado Class Cruisers the near perfect ability of creating a wall of firepower few other navies could match. Even the near ancient Empire, with its fleets of star destroyers, would have trouble matching such firepower.

The buzzing of the turbolift snapped the Rear Admiral back to reality. As the doors slid open, revealing the Battle Bridge, a wave of calm washed over her. For many, the Battle Bridge was chaotic: officers huddled around the holographic map of the system in the center, other lower tier Warrant Officers analyzing sensor and communications suites, and using the internal communications suite to issue orders to the remainder of the ship. Yet, despite the madness, this is where officers like Hauser thrived.

Approaching the central part of the bridge, several officers parted ways to give Hauser access to the hologram projector, which gave a four-dimensional map of the Taluecema System, and also displayed multiple red dots near the orbit of Taluecema, the only planet in system besides its star.

”Rear Admiral, our sensors indicate a hostile fleet affiliated with Gera Petothela is in orbit around Taluecema. We believe the Warlord Petothela himself is in command of the fleet.” Commodore Watson stated blankly.

”I see,” Rear Admiral Hauser remarked. ”If Petothela is in command, this could have the potential of turning deadly on a greater scale. However, if we capture him, alive, we can bring down the entirety of his criminal operations. How many ships does he have at his disposal? And more importantly, what kinds of vessels does his fleet contain?”

”Ma’am, our readings indicate that the enemy fleet is mostly comprised of refitted cargo vessels of varying origin. The enemy fleet also has several larger frigates. More worryingly, our intelligence suggests the enemy fleet is in command of three Devastator Class Star Destroyers.”

Seemed about right. Petothela, though he styled himself as a Warlord and one of the rightful rulers to an empire that had long died, was little more than a pirate. It was a common tactic of him and his goons to seize unescorted cargo ships travelling less travelled hyperspace routes, after which many of the crews and passengers would be mercilessly stuffed into escape pods and jetted into space to wander for eternity, if not picked up by another ship. Petothela’s henchmen would then take captured ships to his main base, the location of which was unknown to Naval Intelligence, and refit the captured cargo ships into makeshift frigates and cruisers to supplement his fleet. Yet, the Devastator was news to Hauser. Naval Intelligence never found any information regarding his fleet possessing three entire star destroyers. These must have been a more recent acquisition. The dozens of heavy turbolasers and heavier weapons systems on board one of those cruisers would be enough to make any Navy Officer’s headache.


Alright y’all, here’s the plan.” Hauser announced, while hastily drawing a formation of circles on the holographic map. Though she tried to hide it, there were moments were she couldn’t mask her upbringing down in Carolina before joining the Navy. ’If only,’ she wished silently.

”Squadrons Delaware, Annapolis, Gotham, Brandywine, Cambridge, and Chincoteague will be spearheading an offensive right at the enemy fleet, along with Squadrons Colorado, Breckenridge, Waxington, Laredo, Colorado Springs, San Juan, Linver, Collins, Morgan, and Bellemeade will be joining them. Squadrons Easton, Cranbury, Salisbury, and Dorchester will stay in reserve and protect Squadrons Altacado, Henningsdale, and Plainview, as well as Squadrons Saratoga, Batavia, and Genesee. The Starcraft Carrier Squadrons will provide starcraft cover and perform attack runs on the larger enemy ships will the remainder of the attacking squadrons take apart the enemy fleet, piece by piece.”

It was a solid plan, the Rear Admiral thought. The Altacado and Saratoga Classes were assault carriers and starcraft carriers, respectively. While decently armed and shielded, they had no business being in a slugout with heavily armed battlecruisers. TheDelaware[i] Class Battlecruisers, on the other hand, would be perfect. Armed heavily with turbolasers, torpedos, and other amazements, the [i]Delaware Class Battlecruisers are perfect for ripping apart large capital ships, all while their redundant shield generators and heavy armor would minimize any sustained damage. Coupled with the squadrons of Colorado Class Cruisers, and their even smaller escorts, the Susquehanna Class Frigates, the fleet would be fine. Even if the enemy turbolasers were silent and the roaring of the enemy starcraft engines would be heard, the point defense cannons and flak guns on the lighter escort frigates would do an excellent job at screening the fleet from enemy starcraft will the US Capital Ships ripped apart Petothela’s fleet.

”Any questions or concerns?” The Rear Admiral inquired, looking around the projected map. As the silence at the table grew, Hauser issued a follow up. ”Very well. Everyone, report back to your squadrons. Move on the Delaware. Good luck.”

The varying Commodores and other officers took this as an opportunity to dismiss themselves back to their squadrons, as they would have orders of their own to dish out. Ordering weapons systems to be loaded and charged, preparing starcraft for launch, activating the shields, and a plethora of other tasks to be accomplished if the battle was to be carried by the United States. Rear Admiral Hauser remained at the holographic map of the system, staring into it as her mind ran through a million simulations of how the battle would end. Either way, she came to the same conclusion: only one fleet would walk away. She was confident it would be her own.

The bridge was silent, save for a few officers at work in the pits aside the main bridge on the Guarlara. Several Naval Commanders had been observing the U.S Navy’s approach, and summoned the Commander himself to the bridge to assess the situation. At long last, he had arrived.

Petothela, the feared warlord and pirate marched through the blast doors of the main bridge and walked slowly to the main console of the bridge. Flanked by a pair of heavily armed bodyguards, and himself with a most likely stolen M18 shotgun at his hip, the Warlord himself was not a man to be easily beaten. Though little more than a brutal pirate and outlaw in the nature of his operations, Petothela was still owed respect. For a warlord, he commanded a large fleet and several legions of soldiers, even a legion of the infamous stormtroopers.

”Lieutenant Papadopoulos, what news do you have?” Petothela demanded, the raspiness in his voice echoing through the bridge. ”Sir, we have U.S Navy vessels inbound. The US Fleet is heavily armed it seems, and are approaching as we speak. I’ve deployed the cruisers and frigates in a screen to protect the the Devastators. Fighters are ready to be deployed at your command, My Lord.”

”Excellent work, Lieutenant.” Petothela said, though his praise lacked any real interest in his underling, his focus clearly on the fleet before him. ”Active shields, and direct all batteries to fire at will. The stupid Amauritans are brave, yet incredibly foolish. Their arrogance ends today.”

”Yes, my liege.” the Lieutenant stated. ”All batteries fire at will! Launch all fighters!” The Lieutenant barked down into the pit below. Petothela looked on as the star destroyer’s turrets roared to life, aimed, and unleashed a salvo of turbolaser fire. It was on. And more importantly, the Amauritans were doomed.

On Board the U.S.S Delaware, Command Ship of the Delaware Squadron

”Intensify deflector shields! All batteries fire at will!” Commodore van Linde barked as the first volley of turbolaser fire rained down on the ship, rocking the bridge. Commodore Marcus van Linde was in command of the U.S.S Delaware and her squadron, who sat at the center of the Navy’s formation on the approach to the Warlord’s Fleet. The Delaware’s Batteries roared to life, unleashing a salvo of their own. Within moments, the other cruisers and battlecruisers in formation had unleashed salvos of their own, answering the Warlord’s fleet. Seconds later, a swarm of U.S starcraft soared overhead, heading straight for the Warlord’s fleet. Now, all the Delaware could do is what it did best. Rip and tear the Warlord’s fleet to shreds.

As the battle progressed, it became clear the Warlord would not be parading his fleet over the burning corpses of the US Navy’s ships. The torpedoes launched by the US starcraft into the smaller ships had destroyed the shields on the smaller ships in the Warlord’s fleet. Now, the turbolaser fire was ripping the smaller ships to pieces, leaving the Devastators exposed. The Delaware’s bridge was busier than ever, with officers directing the ship’s efforts, atop of directing the other ships in the squadron, and advising the other squadrons in the fleet. Yet, despite the chaos, Commodore van Linde remained in focus. Now, what he believed was the enemy flagship was advancing, with the cover of several of the Warlord’s cruisers. [i]’This has to be Petothela’s Flagship. And he must be onboard.’ Commodore van Linde thought. ’The Imperial Crest painted onto the side of that ship. That’s Petothela’s marking.’

Captain! Direct all firepower onto the advancing star destroyer! Request the rest of the line cover us.” The Captain nodded in compliance, before turning about and issuing the command. Within moments, the path of the turbolasers had changed direction. Now, salvo after salvo was making contact with the Devastator. Her shields, in the old and unmaintained state they were in, could not keep up with the intense firepower, and it was clearly shown. The Devastator’s shields had finally failed. One by one, the guns aboard the Devastator fell silent as Amauritan turbolasers continued to rip through the ships armor. Finally, a lucky shot struck an engine. Or ammunition store. Or a hypermatter reactor. Come to think of it, it didn’t matter. All that matters was the explosion that followed, enough to rip the Devastator in two.

Slowly but surely, the Devastator made its descent downward into the blackened abyss.

On Board the U.S.S Batavia, Command Ship of the Batavia Squadron and the U.S First Fleet

”Ma’am, we have confirmed the remainder of the enemy fleet was destroyed. The Warlord’s command ship was ripped in two following an explosion of unknown origin. The two escorting Devastators were critically damaged, our scannings indicate that breeches in the hulls of each ship have rendered the two escort star destroyers immobile and unrepairable. The remaining cruisers and frigates have been destroyed.”

”Thank you, Captain.” Rear Admiral Hauser stated blankly, her eyes focused on the wreckage that laid before her fleet. ”What are our losses after this engagement?”

”Ma’am, two Susquehanna Class Frigates were destroyed, and one more was damaged. Five Colorado Class Cruisers were also damaged to varying degrees, along with four of the Delaware Class Battlecruisers. We have also lost two of our bomber squadrons and one fighter squadron. I also have the unfortunate honor of reporting that 279 of our finest have laid down their lives today: 221 sailors, 17 officers, and 36 pilots. We have a further 4,112 sailors, 128 officers, and 72 pilots in the Fleet’s infirmaries, with varying degree of injury. We do not expect any further deaths however.”

”Thank you, captain.” the Rear Admiral uttered. ”Send word to Naval General Staff of our victory and our losses, and advise them that the Army will begin the ground campaign shortly. Send word to Commodores Cabrera, Teaghan, and Earney to begin the landing sequence. And advise Generals Rossi, van Postma, and Tompkins that I wish them a happy hunt.”

”Yes, ma’am.” The Captain responded before returning to the communications suite. The Rear Admiral could still not take her eyes off the wreckage of the Warlord’s fleet. Now, Petothela was stranded somewhere on that desolated planet, to be hunted down and brought to justice by the United States Army. At least now, the Navy’s role was done. Rear Admiral Hauser could now only hope the Army was equally successful.

On the Surface of Teluecema, Several Hours Later

---

Petothela coughed, the wind swept dust filling his lungs. He had been stranded on this desolate planet with the other personnel in his escape pod. After the explosion that destroyed the hypermatter reactor aboard his flagship, he had no choice but retreat. And retreat he did to the surface. Teluecema was an odd world, to say the least. The planet was mostly an arid dustbowl, with a few rivers emptying into the odd lake or two. The flat, open plains would be ideal for ranching and farming, if intelligent life ever developed here. But now, Petothela was here. He had originally ordered one of his underlings to construct several fuel and ammo depots on this planet. Given the system’s location along the Columbia Hyperspace Route, it would have been perfect for raiding US merchant ships, allowing him to continue his reign. But now, his power was in jeopardy. The US Navy had cornered him on the planet, and there was nowhere to go. Not until one of his underlings, Lieutenant Gorian, arrived with a ship that would actually work.
The warlord’s train of though was abruptly broken when a stormtrooper entered the makeshift tent. ”Sir, we have found Lieutenant Papadopoulos! His escape pod was wrecked, but he is still alive and in good health.”

The warlord’s emotions melted, his disgruntled mood catching fire and his rage engulfing him. ”Thank you, trooper.” the Warlord muttered, standing up and exiting his tent, the bright light from the unforgiving sun beaming down on him and temporarily blinding him.

Two stormtroopers were outside, supporting the Lieutenant. With a simple motion of his hands, the Warlord ushered the stormtroopers away. The troopers complied, releasing the Lieutenant from their grasp. He promptly tumbled onto the dirt, before managing to stand again, his uniform dirty.

”My Lord, it is a miracle that you lived! I-“

You failed, Lieutenant.” Petothela growled, the anger spilling from his mind and pouring through his eyes. His rage, now funneled into the Lieutenant was clear, as Papadopoulos, clearly aware of the warlord’s disappointment and anger towards his underling’s failure, took a nervous step backward.

”My Liege, I beg for your forgiveness. I-“

BOOM!

Before the Lieutenant could get in another word, the blast forced him into doubling over, clutching his abdomen. As Petothela reloaded and reholstered his shotgun, the Lieutenant collapsed into the dust, under the unforgiving sun.

Taluecema Crisis Averted!

The United States Navy launched an expedition to the Taluecema Star System last week to dispatch a several fuel and munitions depots on the planetary surface of Taluecema. This morning, the expeditionary fleet reported back that the enemy naval fleet had been obliterated, and the campaign is well underway. The US Navy, which had deployed the First Fleet to the system, departed Amaurita’s home system on May 24th, and arrived in system. The United States Department of the Navy released a press statement early this morning on the campaign, confirming that the US Navy has conducted multiple air strikes on Taluecema’s surface, neutralizing the threat. The ground invasion, in the statement, was cancelled, as the US Navy, under orders from the Secretary of the Navy and the US General Staff, has conducted a series of tactical air strikes on depots located through planetary scans and airborne reconassiance.

The enemy fleet was commandeered by the infamous warlord, Gera Petothela. Petothela is a long line of warlords and pirates, whom operate under the banner of the Empire. Though long collapsed and confined into the channels of the Galaxy’s history, many high ranking ex-Imperial officials, and later their descendants, have continued the fight to restore the Empire. Most recently, Petothela had established multiple depots on Taluecema to conduct raids on shipping to the core of the Galaxy and beyond, in order to obtain more vessels and an additional source of income, via selling stolen goods aboard hijacked ships onto the black market. Many crews, according to Naval accounts, have been stuffed into the ship’s escape pods before being jettisoned into space. The recent victories in Taluecema are believed to be the beginning of the end of Petothela and the mayhem his faction has caused up until this point in time.

The victory in the Taluecema System did not come without cost, however. In the aftermath of the battle, the US First Fleet has lost 221 Sailors, 17 Navy Officers, and 36 Pilots, as well as a further 4,112 personnel injured during combat. The US Navy also reported that three squadrons of starcraft were lost in the initial battle over the planet’s orbit. The fallen will be returned back and honored at the Puloa Harbor Naval Base in Honolulu, Saiwaki, and subsequently buried in the Thetford National Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia. The US First Fleet will be stationed in Taluecema for the remainder of the month, ensuring that the Warlord’s faction does not reinfest the planet, and pose additional danger to the United States.

Presidential Election Heats Up

---

The Road to the Presidency is heating up this week as residents in several states head to the polls. President Frederick A. Garthwaite, the incumbent President, is seeking reelection this year, yet he will have to win the Republican Nomination from several of his colleagues. Most notably, President Garthwaite has to campaign against Nancy O’Mellean , the former Republican Senator from Colorado; and more notably, Emiliano Vallone, current Republican Governor of Pavonia. Governor Vallone currently has the greatest chance of success against the incumbent Garthwaite. On the Democratic side, current Representative George Wilson from Susquehanna’s 3rd District; former Governor Patrick Wiltsham of Virginia; and Laura Alfano, current Governor of Mexico; are all contenders for the Democratic nomination. Several other parties, such as the Amaurita Liberty Party and the Unionist Party, have also announced primaries and intend on running candidates in the general election, yet are projected not to amass a million votes each, on a national scale.

Several states head to the polls this week as part of long process of determining who ultimately gets the nomination in October. This week, the States of Susquehanna, Flaurita, Ouachita, and Oklahoma are all up for grabs on both sides of the aisle. As of today’s polls, Garthwaite and Vallone are. Both projected to be in close competition in every state except for Susquehanna, which heavily favors O’Mellean. Across the aisle, Wiltsham and Alfano are close in Ouachita and Oklahoma, yet Wilson has a distinct advantage in Susquehanna and Flaurita. Polling results in the primaries are expected to be in by the end of the week, and should serve as a massive indicator as to how states will be voting come October. Oklahoma and Ouachita have been traditionally Republican in the past few election cycles, while Susquehnna has remained loyal to the Democrats. Flaurita has flipped several times, voting Democrat in 2008 and 2012, yet has flipped in 2016.

National Park Celebrates Anniversary

The Sierra Nevada National Park celebrated its 114th Anniversary yesterday with a public ceremony, dedicating several trails to the late Albert Rendall, the Secretary of the Interior at the time the Sierra Nevada National Park was founded. The Sierra Nevada National Park, which is located in the mountains of eastern Kalinea, was founded on Christmas Day, 1906, as part of a now extensive national park system that was created in the early 20th century as part of the Wildlife Conservation Act of 1905. The Sierra Nevada National Park was founded during the same time frame as the San Juan, Channel Islands, and Rio Bravo National Parks, which were all plotted and founded in late 1909 and early 1910. Sierra Nevada was the first national park to complete this process and open its doors for visitors.

The Department of the Interior, in 1905, had purchased the land that the Sierra Nevada from several cattle ranches, for an undisclosed total. The land had sat idle for several years, with the intention of utilizing the land as a site for an agricultural research center. Ultimately, the plan was discarded in 1907, and the Department donated the 6,000 square kilometers of land to the National Parks System, creating what would eventually be the Sierra Nevada National Park several years later. The National Park System, including the Sierra Nevada, is considered public land and is free to enter for all. Several limited hunting permits can be purchased though for animals such as trout, bison and bighorn sheep, allowing the park system to generate revenue during the varying hunting seasons throughout the year.

After quite a few months (3 months to be exact) of quarantine, President Alvin Newsom, is now enacting phases of reopening under the circumstances of sanitary action (like washing hands for 20 seconds, hand sanitizer, face masks, etc.), and also advising social distancing only to the elderly, people already sick with another disease, and ones who have weak immune systems (like infants, HIV/AIDS infected people, etc.), the phases will be listed below.


Phase 1
Citizens can take a casual walk around the cities, but it is the only thing citizens can do beside grocery shopping, takeout, etc. and citizens will only be allowed to from 8:30 am - 7:45 pm. Then at 7:45 pm, curfew comes in effect. This phase will be in effect for 2-4 weeks.


Phase 2
Citizens are now able to visit some non-essential stores like toy stores, video game stores, etc. but only from 9:00 am - 6:30 pm, and citizens are only allowed to enter the stores with masks and gloves. It will be in effect for 1-3 weeks after phase 1.


Phase 3
Citizens are now more open to places like non-takeout restaurants, skate parks, etc. but under the sanitary circumstances, and only from 10:20 am - 7:25 pm, this phase will be in effect 1-2 weeks after phase 2.


Phase 4 (Final Phase)
Citizens are now allowed to access all non-essential places but under sanitary circumstances and only until curfew (7:45 pm), and society in Carah will be technically back to its original state of regular society.


After the phases, people are able to return to normal society under sanitary circumstances every day until 7:45 pm which is curfew, the first phase will take place June 12.

The sun broke over the eastbound horizon, casting light onto the old city. Columbia, nearly as old as the United States itself, has always been the epicenter of Amauritan Politics and Law since the foundation of the Capital in the 18th century. The Federal District, at the heart of the old town, was a time capsule in itself, the government offices lining the streets constructed in federal and classical styles. At the very end of the District, on the banks of the Potomac River, stood the Capitol, the house of the U.S Legislative Bodies, the beating heart of the Republic’s Government.

Today was unlike other days, however. Traffic was non-existent. The factories that would be normally churning with productivity were still. Today was a holiday: The 21st of June: Amaurita’s Independence Day. Columbia, the heart of the Amauritan Republic, was hosting the annual Amauritana World Fair, the yearly celebration to commemorate the foundation of the United States on June 21st, 1767. Forged in the fires of Revolution, this day was set aside to celebrate the formation of a new Union, cast from the images of Liberty and Republicanism.

The National Mall, a wonder on its own, had even greater majesty on this special occasion. The normally tranquil and calming lawn between the Capitol and the Cullington Monument was now a bustling hub of exhibits and pavilions from every corner of the Union and beyond. Hundreds, if not Thousands, of Amauritans from every corner and every State packed the Mall. The aromas from every cuisine native to the United States blended together in a brilliant concoction of flavor: the savory seafood from the Northeast, the Cajun flair of the Bayou, the meats from the Heartlands, and the Atzlano inspired cuisine from the Southwest all blended together, in the heart of the Mall, into a cuisine aroma that was uniquely Amauritan.

Pavilions representing every state in the Union dotted the Mall, bringing the fair-goers goods and displays from every corner of the Union. The Holland and Pavonia Pavilions displayed the rich Itasnan, Dutch, and Polish cultures that enriched the northeast. The Altacado Pavilion proudly exhibited the Atzlano-Amauritan traditions that enriched the Southwest. The Canawessee and Ouachita Pavilions told the stories of the coal miners that industrialized the Union post-Civil War. The Flaurita Pavilion displayed with pride the Carney Space Center, where the technologies of tomorrow are researched with pride. Every State Pavilion told a unique story, showing the true individuality of each State in the Union, from Sea to shining Sea.

At the gates of the Presidential Mansion Complex, the United States Armed Forces commenced their annual parade down Susquehanna Avenue, from the President’s Official Residence, down Susquehanna Avenue, Louisiana Avenue and across McClelland Avenue, and ending at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider in Arlington National Cemetery. Regardless of the unrelenting Summer Sun, Regiment after Regiment of the Union’s finest soldiers marched, honoring the Amauritan Warrior, past and present.

For many, a setting sun would mean the end of the festivities. Yet, such was inapplicable. As day turned into night, the blackened sky was brightened by the brilliant fireworks displays not only from Columbia, yet also from Alexandria, Arlington, Rathingmore, and Richmond. Volley after volley of fireworks lit up the sky, the bright and awe-inspiring colors turning the night into day. The wondrous roar of the mid-air explosions were so intense, one could be forgiven for believing the city was under artillery fire. The brilliant displays shown not only in the Capital region, yet across the nation, was a testament to the patriotism that defined the United States. Such patriotism would forever be a cornerstone of the principles that defined Amaurita.

Guide to a New Normality

As of June 23, there are 340,389 total cases, 19,951 deaths and 190,545 recoveries in Scotatrova.

This June the Government published the decree-law to regulate the 'new normality' , in force throughout the territory as of Sunday, June 21. Among the measures that came into force, the use of a mandatory mask is maintained in public transport and in any place where the obligatory meter and a half of distance cannot be maintained throughout the territory. On the other hand, measures are recommended for the progressive reincorporation of face-to-face work, although teleworking is encouraged. Many of the decisions in the coming weeks, such as limiting capacity in bars, shops or entertainment venues, depend on the states and territories.

Masks must be used in means of transport, such as the subway, bus, plane or train, as well as in public or private places - closed and open - if the physical distance between people cannot be maintained. The separation to be maintained with respect to the rest is 1.5 meters. As is already happening now, children under 6 and people with illnesses or some type of dependency that prevent their use are exempt from it, in addition to cases in which they cannot be carried. Failure to comply with this obligation can lead to a fine of up to 100 troyevans. There will also be capacity restrictions in bars, shops or entertainment that the governors of the states will have to make. "It will be the responsibility of the authorities of each state and territory to specify this if they believe that it must be specified or there must be some capacity limitation, just as it happened before the state of alarm was decreed and as it already happens in phase 3," explained this Tuesday the Minister of Health, Pablo Abasto. In phase 3 there have been variations on this aspect. The decree law only states that the competent administrations will have to ensure "the adoption of the organizational measures that are necessary to avoid crowds and guarantee that customers and workers maintain the safety distance." The Government proposes that these new rules to deal with the pandemic continue to be in force until it can be terminated because it is controlled with a highly effective vaccine or treatment.

As of June 23rd, Phase 3 has began in 10, while 5 states and the Romosea Islands are in Phase 2, 6 states are in Phase 1 and the final 8 states and 2 territories are still stuck in Phase 0.

Malcomb’s Valley: State of Ouachita, U.S.A

The moon pierced through the midnight fog, the beams of moonlight piercing over the mountain ranges and illuminating the slumbering valleys and hollows. The rivers and lakes scattered across the highlands, once illuminated by the basking glory of the summer sunlight, were now brightened by the eerie glow of the moonlight. The twinkling lights indicating the dozens of settlements scattered throughout the highlands were seemingly swallowed up by the pitch black of the night. The mining and milling towns were silent, save for the occasional freight train flying down the tracks, deadest on making the Interstate by first light. Though isolated and rugged, these mountains arguably had the best scenery in all the State of Ouachita, and arguably the most breathtaking view in all of the Commonwealth of the Rio Grande.

A lone rail line, seemingly old and derelict, ran through the trees, several kilometers from the main Interstate that snaked through Malcomb’s Valley. Though the northern and eastern sections of the valley was home to several major settlements including the State Capital in Cleaveland and the major riverport at Annesburg, the southern and western regions remain largely uninhabited. This was not the case several decades ago, however. The mining boom of the 2250’s saw a dozen settlements established near the booming mines in the western and southern valley, including towns like Jonesboro, Milton, and Colter; which justified the now abandoned railway snaking through the forests and hills. Now, thirty years later, only Jonesboro remained, the other settlements scattered throughout the region abandoned, left to be reclaimed by the Ozarks.

A Faint Wind whispers through the Trees

The ground began to tremble, scaring away all the animals, from the tiniest of rabbits to the massive moose that wandered the forests. The trembling worsened, and a powerful light appeared at the end of the hollow. With the bellowing roar of the whistle, a train flew down the tracks, sending a sea of dust into the air. Though seemingly abandoned, the old railroad was still in service, being used by local hospitality companies as part of a chain of ghost tours through the abandoned mining towns and the local military installation at Fort Brennard, that long stood empty, a haunting relic of the past. Oddly, the tourist season was not due to start until September, when the region cooled as the fall approached.

The train rolled past the derelict corpse of what was once a mining town, the sign adjacent to what was once the train station ironically welcoming visitors to the Town of Cornwall, State of Ouachita, Established 2269. The once booming town now stood silent in the dead of night, the loudest sounds being the waters of the Kamassa River crashing against the rocks. The tracks were, for a moment, sandwiched between the Kamassa River and the dead town, before the tracks bent inland outside the town, heading north towards Willard’s Point State Park. Several kilometers from the River, the tracks split. Going east would take the train back to the Cleaveland-Annesburg Metro, and west would take the train past old For Brennard, and eventually across the Ouachita-Oklahoma State Line.

The train rolled on through the night, the surrounding hills and valleys becoming smaller and increasingly less dramatic, until a worn sign appeared in the fog: Welcome to Oklahoma. The train slowed, and exited off the old line onto a service rail a few kilometers west of the state line.

The train crawled to a halt, the dust flung into the air clouding the surrounding woods. The deer and squirrels were promptly scared off by hardy laughter as a dozen masked and heavily armed men disembarked from the engine, two tenders, and the dozen or so passenger and baggage cars that snaked behind them. It was finally clear: the train was not a tourist train, it was a stolen train. Stolen just outside of Springdale in southern Ouachita, and emptied of passengers and guards. And then, taken for a joyride, up the interstate and into Malcomb’s Valley, losing the local law after detonating several large trees and sending piles of charred lumber and rocks onto the rails and adjacent roads. Now that they were across the State Line, they were safe. At least until the U.S. Marshals came looking, but they would be long gone before then.

One outlaw, after jumping from the engine, holstered his shotgun before searching a nearby cargo container, left behind by the outlaws before the heist. Emerging with handfuls of breaching charges, and tossing them to the approaching gunmen. ”Marion, Antonio: you two blow the safes in the first baggage car. Darragh and Charles, you two take the safes in the second baggage car. John, Mac, and Davey; y’all search the rest of the train for anything valuable. Lenny and I got the third baggage car.”

The senior gunman, with Lenny following close behind, boarded their assigned baggage car, with the rest of the outlaws executing their missions. ”Arthur, you get the safe in the front, I got the safe in the back.” Lenny exclaimed, securing the breaching charge onto his safe. Arthur, upon securing his charge and starting the fuse, took cover outside the carriage, and braced for the explosion. The charges rocked the baggage car, as did the others, afterwhich Arthur stumbled through the smoke towards the now opened safe. Blindly feeling inside the safe, Arthur emptied its contents into a sack, before exiting the train. The others had done the same, with sacks and haversacks filled to bursting with loot.

With a dedicated haste, the outlaws counted their prize. Between the half a dozen safes in the baggage cars, the valuables left behind by the evicted passengers, and one final safe in the mail car, they had amassed a small fortune from their heist: a grand total of 100,000 Thallers in cash, plus jewelry and other valuables.

”Good work, gentlemen.” Arthur proclaimed. ”Everyone needs make themselves scarce. Ride separate from each other with blasters ready, and make sure you are not followed. See y’all back at camp.”

One by one, the outlaws mounted their airspeeders, or rather the ones they stole from a local warehouse and hidden in the woods. The dust flew into the air once more, as the outlaws rode off, just as dawn broke over the highlands to the east. Now, Arthur was alone, yet he had one more job to take care of before heading off. Grabbing the sack full of leftover breaching charges, Arthur climbed aboard the engine one final time. He exited, tossing the sack onto the cabin floor next to the engine’s reactor. Leaving a trail of gunpowder behind him, he left a trail all the way back to his airspeeder. As he climbed aboard his escape, he struck a single match, dropped it onto the gunpowder below, and took off. A brilliant explosion soon ballooned into the air mere moments after he left, with a billowing tower of smoke and fumes now climbing into the sky. The law would find it now, sure, but that was no longer a concern.

National Fair to Commence!

---

The Amauritana World’s Fair is set to begin on the first of August this year, in the city of Saint Theresa, State of Acadiana. The A.W.F, a two week-long fair hosted annually in August, is the largest gathering of exhibitions, athletic games, parades, and other large gatherings held in the United States. The honor of hosting the World’s Fair was given to Saint Theresa this year, whereas last year’s honors were given to San Antonio, Texas. Next year’s host is yet to be decided, with the settlements at Cleaveland, Ouachita; Alderney, Holland; Saint George, Ambarino; and Albany, Tennessee all submitting bids to host. This year’s Fair, however, is expected to be one of the largest fairs since the establishment of the World’s Fair in 2209, and one of the largest revenue generating events in addition to this.

Saint Theresa, the capital and largest settlement in the State of Acadiana, was established as a major seaport and interstellar port on the Gulf of Dixie, in the Commonwealth of the Gulf. The Amauritana World’s Fair is to be hosted in the historic French Quarter District of the city, overlooking the Bayou du Maurepas and Gulf du Orleans to the north and the Gulf of Dixie to the south and east. The French Quarter is the oldest section of the city, established in by Franco-Amauritan settlers upon the creation of the Territory, and later State, of Acadiana on August 4th, 2078, thirteen years prior to Acadiana achieving Statehood in 2091. Renowned for its colonial architecture and rich Franco-Amauritan culture, the French Quarter is a lively and bustling neighborhood, perfect for the Fair. Events and activities will be hosted throughout the Quarter in public parks and other large spaces, most notably on Chartres Avenue, DuPont Avenue, and Beauregard Square.

A projected fifty million guests from both the United States and from abroad are projected to descend upon the settlement between Saturday, August 1st and Saturday, August 15th, the dates for which the World’s Fair are slotted for. Guests from Great Eilean and Commonwealth, Antillla, France, Scotatrova, Germany, Japan, the Soviet Union, the Republic of China, the Republic of Poland, and the Free Republic of Croatia are all expected, in addition to guests from other nations. The World’s Fair is expected to generate nearly one hundred billion Thallers in revenue over the course of the two-week fair. Hotels across the city and in nearby towns such as Hammond and Morgan have reported maximum bookings, with some clients being turned away due to the sheer volume. Restaurants and Bars are expected to earn several fortunes throughout the month of August. The Gulf region, already popular with domestic and international visitors for its beaches, national parks, and local culture and cuisine, is expecting twice as many visitors this month than August of last year.

The spike in economic activity, however, will come at a cost, as claimed by Elisabeth Poletta, the current Mayor of Saint Theresa. A small spike in crime is expected with the combination of the influx of national and international tourists and the projected spike in sales of alcohol. Chief Horatio Lambert of the Saint Theresa Police Department has committed additional officers to be present at public spaces throughout the Fair’s duration, committing to strict enforcement of the law. The S.T.P.D is to be supplemented by Deputy Sheriffs from the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, as promised by Sheriff Leigh MacCallion in a press conference held on Thursday from the Sheriff’s Headquarters in Hahnsbury. The Saint Theresa’s Sanitation Department also has its work cut out for it, as cleaning up excess litter will likely be a daily occurrence. Saint Theresa has also rented two-hundred mobile sanitation stations for the event, to be posted throughout the French Quarter to ensure the city’s health and hygiene is protected. Nonetheless, the City of Saint Theresa and the County of Orleans are committed to ensuring the city remains clean and safe for the duration of the Fair.

Accident Forces Traffic to Grinding Halt

A massive accident occurred yesterday on Interstate Expressway 96 towards Lansing, Michigan . The incident occurred at 0730 in the morning, when a road train, a truck transporting more than one trailer, had the last two trailers it was transporting overturn on the highway, as a result of one of the trailers skidding on a banana peel. Upon spilling, the doors to all three of the trailers burst open, spilling hundreds of thousands of potatoes onto both sides of the roadway. Due to a law passed in 1954 that bans the crushing of potatoes with an automobile on Fridays, traffic has ground to a halt as cleanup crews rush to clean up the mess. Thankfully, no one has been hurt in the incident, however, the incident makes it clear that the state and county governments need to better enforce anti-littering policies, especially on major roadways, where one slip up can lead to a disastrous ending. Furthermore, it also makes it clear that some of the many laws the state government has passed in previous years can be absolutely ridiculous, and need outright reform or better yet, straight up repeal. Additionally, this accident also makes it clear that the smallest of actions can make everything go absolutely bananas.

Flaurita Man arrested for “Drive By Mayonnaise-ing”

Jackson Humphrey of Alachua County, Flaurita, was arrested last night for committing a ‘drive by mayonnaise-ing” on another local man, whom Mr. Humphrey claimed owed him money. At approximately 1730 yesterday evening, Mr. Humphrey drove past his neighbor in his Bryant F-150 Pickup Landspeeder, and hauled an industrial sized container of Vestchau’s brand Blue Ribbon Mayonnaise at the head of his neighbor, knocking him unconscious. Neighbor’s contacted local law enforcement, whom arrived at 1745 to assist the injured man and track down the offender. Mr. Humphrey was charged with first degree assault and arrested by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department at 1915 at a local Publix, after employees contacted law enforcement due to Mr Humphrey threatening staff for not giving him a refund on the Vestchau Mayo. Booked at the County Jail in Gainesbury, Mr. Humphrey is expected to be convicted on the charges of assault in addition to charges of reckless operation of a landspeeder and disturbing the peace, at the request of the Publix Company. Mr Humphrey’s trial was set for September 3rd of this year, in addition to a one thousand Thaller bail assigned by Judge Steven Keane of the Alachua County Court.

As of August 17, there have been 355,663 total cases, 20,804 deaths and 226,963 recoveries in Scotatrova.

With daily coronavirus case numbers rising, Scotatrova imposed its first new restrictions on daily life since coming out of lockdown nearly two months ago, ordering mandatory mask-wearing, even outdoors, in areas with nightlife. The new measures come as Scotatrova faces its most precarious moment of the summer. School is due to start in less than a month. Scotatrova's government is specifically targeting nightclubs and evening socializing as cases are increasingly detected among the young. After being ravaged by the virus in March and April, Scotatrova has since emerged as an example of how a careful reopening — and widespread adherence to rules — can help restore a sense of near normalcy. Scotatrova in April had one of the highest infection rates in Europe; throughout the summer, it has had one of the lowest rates. Across the country, people have started to become more relaxed. Some shopkeepers and cafe owners wave off indoor mask-wearing obligations. Scotatrovians have tried to reclaim some of their usual summer rites — zipping off to other Mediterranean countries while also slowly welcoming foreign visitors. Over the past week, Scotatrova has detected roughly 500 new cases per day, well above the 200-a-day pace from earlier in the summer but one-tenth of the peak. Health experts in Scotatrova say they hope the country can avoid a true second wave. But there is concern about what will happen as school begins, temperatures drop and socializing moves to indoor spaces more hospitable for the virus.

Roaseran Peninsula Slammed by Second Wave of COVID-19 Infections

As of October 17, there have been 503,922 total cases, 21,891 deaths and 281,659 recoveries in Scotatrova.

When Atalon became the epicenter of the pandemic in the spring, concerns arose of the virus raging throughout the rest of the Roaseran peninsula and overwhelming the health systems of the states located there. That fear was mildly eased as Atalon alone was the main epicenter, with the second most affected state in the peninsula, Cadecia, reporting half the numbers that Atalon had at the height of the pandemic. But now the virus is raging again, through Europe and through Scotatrova, with a spike that is hitting Atalon but this time also the rest of the peninsula. In the states of Casturas and Avaria especially, who have been leading the spike in new infections, the daily number of detected new cases is larger than March’s peak. Many hospitals in the peninsula remain understaffed and have fewer beds per capita than those in the northern half of the country. The governor of Casturas has ordered a school closure through the end of October and threatened a lockdown if the numbers continue to rise. It was earlier this month that Casturas surged to surpass Cortana as the second most affected state in the nation. If cases continue to climb at the rate they currently are, it is estimated that Casturas may pass Atalon to become the hardest hit state by the beginning of November. During the first wave, Atalon, the most populous state in the nation, accounted for about 23% of all infections. Now, it accounts for 17%, even though it has seen cases slowly rebound as well. Scotatrova this week mandated mask-wearing even outdoors and this week curbed the hours on bars and restaurants. Officials say the aim is to avert the need for a second, inevitably bruising, national lockdown. But they say localized or even regional lockdowns may be necessary even as the National Tier System as gone into effect.
