An Age of Dragons and Dragon Hunters: OOC/Character/Open

Dragons, the bane of man and beast alike. Fierce fire breathing beasts that devour whole towns before lighting them aflame, only to add the meager collection of shiny objects to their horde in some far off lair. Few can stand against the fell beasts and of those few, none can do it alone. That is why the Hunters guild was formed, first to hunt all types of dangerous creatures that plagued the civilized races, but now only to hunt the only true threat that remains.

Thanks to the guilds work Dragons had all but disappeared a hundred years before when the Slaughter at Cadival had occurred, scattering the dragons and killing their king. They were then hunted down in their ones and twos and put to the sword. But now things are changing, dragons have returned in greater numbers, organized once more they laid waste to several towns and villages that dared be to close to their mountain homes. They have also been seen flying high above great cities, not attacking, but not hiding themselves either.

And so the Hunters guild has been put back into the spotlight. New teams have begun to form in order to bring this threat down once more. You, be you human, elf, dwarf, or orc, have all joined the reorganzing Hunters guild. Whether it be to avenge a loss loved one, to gain fame and riches, or simply because you had nothing better to do, you all joined. And so now the hunt begins, how will your team shape up? Will you become the greatest dragon hunters to live? Or shall you perish in the flames like so many before you. Only time shall tell.

Dragons:
Dragons come in many different shapes and sizes (Think how to train your dragon). From small and roguishly fast to behemoths with titanic strength. One thing they all share in common though is their insatiable love for all things shiny. From golden coins to hunters great swords, these beasts are addicted to anything that may increase the size of their horde, for that is what gives them status in the mysterious dragon society.

Dragons can fly, making it rather difficult to hunt them in the open. To combat this, dragon hunters must locate the lair of a dragon and put the dragons loot under threat. A dragon is faced then with two options, be cornered and fight for what is its honor, status, and respect among other dragons or lose it all and become next to nothing. Very few dragons as of yet have chosen the latter.

A dragons skin is covered almost completely in scales as thick as steel, making killing them through striking the scales near impossible. Dragons do however have several weakspots, including the Eyes, Throat, Armpits, and behind the ears. Striking these spots may not cause immediate death, but it might leave the beast open for similar strikes by your comrades.

Magic:
Magic in this Universe is heavily influenced by Christopher Paolinis Inheritance Cycle. All magic is influenced and limited by two things, how much magical energy (mana) you have in your body and other objects and your knowledge of the language of magic. All magic is performed by speaking, or thinking if powerful enough, the word or phrase of the ancient language. Once spoken the spell takes place, but their are risks involved. If a spell is to much for a mage and your mana is drained before the spell is complete then you can go unconscious and potentially die.

Bestiary:
The most common dragon species, the mountain reds are fearsome beasts that cam grow to be 22 meters (25 yards) from tail to nose. These dargons also have a wingspan of 45 meters (50 yards), they have razor sharp claws and scales that cover their entire body other than already known weak spots. One particular fact about this type of dragon is that while still strong, the scales that cover its neck and underbelly are weaker than those of other species, making them more susceptible to straight attacks there. These dragons are easily identifiable from their shade of coloring, always a shade of red from maroon to Lighter colors.

Image

Much rarer than their Mountain Red Kin, Hornnosed Dragons are near double the size of those dragons, in both length and wingspan. They are also much stronger and more highly regarded within the mysteries of the Dragon society. The only known weaknesses of a Hornnose are those already listed, being the Eyes, behind the Ears, Armpits and throat. A Hornnose is easily recognizable from the large size of the beast and because of the deep black horn that begins at the end of its snout and curls upwards. The age of a Hornnose can easily be guessed by the length of its horn.

Image

Small and quick, Adders are the only Dragon species still commonly found nesting outside of the Mountainous homelands of the dragons. These beasts are as large as horses with wingspans of up to 5 meters. They are the smallest species of dragons but make up for this fact due to their natural pack habits. Adders usually are found in packs of six to ten with an Alpha and a Beta. These are also the only species of dragon that can reliably be taken down without having to strike weak spots.

Image

The most rare species of Dragons and the Largest known species, these dragons can range from 90 meters to 115 meters (100 yards-125 yards) and have a wingspan of about 180 meters (200 yards. These beasts are so incredibly powerful that during the First Wars with the Dragons they were known to singlehandedly lay waste to cities. The last King of the Dragons was and Eldar dragon and since his death none there have been no confirmed spottings of the species. It is advised that when facing such a beast you take it in its sleep, as that was how the last known Killing of an Eldar Dragon was done.

Image

A dragon unique to the mountain range located in Diocese of Savenoria, the Alnebyan Zmai is a three headed dragon. The dragon is the same size as a Mountain red with about the same wingspan, they also share a lot of the same quirks and weaknesses, the exception being the three heads of the Alnebyan Zmai. Three heads means thrice the firepower and the sight of a Zmai above a village or town usually signals the worse is soon the come. A weakness that hunters might be able to use against this creature is the soft and easily pierced skin that sits in between where the neck of each head meets the body.

Image

Of the many Dragon and dragon like species, Wyrms are probably the most despicable. These creatures, which can grow to be almost 100 meters, live underground, tunneling themselves a burrow to live in and only slithering out on the blackest of nights. While these beasts cannot fly or breath fire, they are completely armored and host no obvious weaknesses that can be exploited by hunters. Wyrms do share a taste for all things shiny like their Dragon relatives and like their relatives, they are also extremely intelligent. The suggested way of killing this beast is simple, light its burrow aflame and it will come for you. When it does, aim for the only opening it gives, its mouth.

Nations:

Brief Description: The Diocese of Savenoria (Sah-veh-nor-ee-a) is the largest nation in the western end of Alesia, and one of the three big powers (Savenoria, Saresland, and Brasbover) of that half of the continent. Savenoria enjoys a Mediterranean climate at the coast and a more temperate climate in the north, and is renowned for culture and fine arts. Savenoria is technically governed by a bishop of the Ecumenical Church of Elvish Dualism, but in practice, the country is governed by an Advisory Council made up of many different races. Major cities within Savenoria include Viellia (the capital) and Fortoss (a crime-ridden city of merchants). The currency is the gaeld.

History: 1000 years ago, the Alnebyan Empire was trying to spread all across Alesia. The continent was a scattered mix of Bronze Age human tribes, Iron Age dwarf and orc tribes, and elf civilizations during that time. The elves, who belonged to the Savenor group, who were wood elves living in that region with brown hair and blue eyes, united the tribes to ward off the Alnebyan Empire. They succeeded, and the peoples living there formed the nation of Savenoria. The Elvish Dualist Church took over, but their rule was merely nominal.

The first few hundred years after Savenoria's founding were spent dealing with dragon attacks from Mountain Reds and their cousins, Alnebyan Zmai. Since the Diocese was too busy having its towns destroyed by dragons, the Church could not govern effectively, and so Savenoria remained a loosely affiliated set of towns, villages, and even some rapidly expanding cities.

During this time period, Alesia progressed from the Iron Age to the Low Middle Ages. Many new technologies were invented in Savenoria, mostly weapons. This period ended when the Savenorian human soldier Banen Olliver invented the crossbow 560 years after the founding of Savenoria. Now Savenorian soldiers stood a very small chance against the dragons, and Savenoria began to flourish.

Savenorian artists created many great paintings, sculptures, and even operas. Dwarves used the gemstones they mined to create fabulous pieces of jewelry. Mages from Savenoria became famous throughout the world, and Savenorian alchemists advanced the world's knowledge of the sciences. This was the time when Savenoria built her reputation as a center of culture and art.

The Diocese rapidly became a center of power in Western Alesia, although its influence was tempered by the fact that dragons were savaging Alesia at this time. The Elvish bishop actually governed, and the Advisory Council merely helped him.

But then the climax of the dragon wars brought a sudden end to that era of prosperity. Unwisely, Bishop Dreyon Beriton tried to negotiate with the dragons, in the short negotiations the Bishop was devoured and the dragons torched much of Savenoria, feeding on the chaos that the Bishops death rent. The ensuing battles became part of the infamous Dragon Wars. The Diocese of Savenoria was pushed to the brink of ruin.

When the Dragon Wars ended with the Slaughter at Cadival, Savenoria seized the opportunity to regain her former glory. The powers of the Advisory Council were greatly expanded at the expense of the bishop's. Savenoria rebuilt her cities and regained her former stature in western Alesia. Savenorian artists, mages, craftsmen, scientists are once again famous throughout Alesia, but now that the dragons are coming back, the Diocese is threatened once again.

The empire is by mass, population, and military size largest nation on the continent of Alesia. It is also arguably the one hit the worse by the past Dragon Wars, losing much of its territory to secessionist groups in the chaos that followed the End of the Wars. The capital city is Alnebyan in the central region of the country. Other major cities are Favros, Hymera, Losta Nuvera, and New Alnebyan.

NS Name: Revlona
Character Name: Arcoss Eighmar (Are-kos Aye-mar)
Race : Half Human Half Elf
Appearance: Arcoss
Sex: Male
Strengths: Good Shot, Experienced Dragon Hunter
Weaknesses: Mostly Anti-Social, Can not Swim, Fears Burning to Death
Personality: A strong willed and able man, Arcoss leads the Guild to the best of his ability, showing flashes of Loyalty, Honor, and a willingness to be hard but just when called upon.
Biography:
Not much is Known about the Current Guild leaders past and what is known is mostly rumor. Arcoss himself was born 42 years ago in the Kingdom of Coche in a village near the Great Coche Mountain range. His village is one of the few to suffer the devastation that is a Dragon raid ever since the end of the Dragon wars. He was one of the few survivors, his entire family being killed in the flames, so when a group of local Guild members came to investigate he was able to point them in the direction that the beast had fled in. The dragon, a Mountain Red, was cornered and killed by the guild members and Arcoss adopted into the guild as a adept.

Since becoming a member of the Guild Arcoss has taken part in at least two dozen hunts, delivering the killing blow on half of them. In one such encounter he personally slew half of an Adder infestation including the Adder Alpha. Arcoss rose the become the Guild Master some 5 years past when the old Master died, the Voting Guild Members, those with at least 6 hunts under their belts, unanmiously supported his ascension to the position. Ever since the apparent reorganization of the Dragon society he has lead massive recruitment drives, hoping to combat and destroy this reemerging threat before it can regain a foothold of terror over the populace like it did once before.

Equipment: Scalemail armor, Hunters Guild Amulet (Two crossed arrows in surrounded by a circle of thorns), A steel longsword, a heavy crossbow, and a quiver of bolts.

I'm interested. May I introduce a new species of dragon? It will be called the Alnebyan Zmai, and it has three heads. You can make up the rest.

Hmm, that sounds like an interesting concept, I shall think on it and look at adding it later.

Added the first bit of lore for the Empire. Will be progressively adding to it in order to give anyone who wants the chance at filling out their own nation.

NS Name: Ceystile
Character Name: Zriel Montresor
Race (Available are: Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and Half-Orcs): Half-elf
Appearance: She's six feet tall even, with the slim, slender build common to most elves and half-elves. She has long, angular features with a somewhat triangular face, almond-shaped gray eyes and mid-back length curly black hair. Her skin is a deep sepia brown and heavily freckled.
Age: 29
Sex: Female
Strengths: Magic, intelligence, cunning
Weaknesses: She's kinda physically weak so she can't really take a punch, she tends to keep secrets and gaining more magical knowledge is her biggest weakness.
Personality: Zriel is a friendly woman, but a bit withdrawn and rarely makes the first move in conversation, preferring to be left alone with her books...it takes a bit for her to open up, but when she does she's quite a loyal friend. However, she does have the weaknesses of being secretive and greedy for spells, something that has caused her to clash with others on more than one occasion.
Biography (At least two paragraphs): Born in the kingdom of Saresland to Areva, half-elven midwife and Jorin, a palace knight, Zriel's childhood was pretty average for the daughter of castle servants. The youngest of three sisters, she often kept to herself when she wasn't playing with her sisters or her friends, the royal children. She took to grimoires like a fish to water and from an early age she knew that magic was the path that she wanted to pursue in life. With the hours she spent in study under the tutelage of the court wizard, sometimes she would study "forbidden" tomes in secret as she got older (didn't want to get into trouble after all) and hoarded the spells she collected much like a squirrel, at least that's what the prince would say.

Last year, during a bit of research she had heard that the Dragons had returned...sightings, burning villages, even rumors of a group of new dragon hunters being reformed had all surfaced at an alarming rate. He friend the crown prince, who was now King sent her to go investigate the rumors, and while she was conducting her investigation she learned that there was indeed a group of dragon hunters forming. She requested that the king allow her to join, and while he was reluctant to part with her, he granted it anyway with the condition that he would be updated regularly on any reports of draconic activity, and she agreed. This was an opportunity to help her kingdom, gain fame, and collect spells from other parts of the world so she wasted no time in preparing and heading toward what she saw as a step toward her destiny.

I like it, only would have you change a couple things.

1. The Hunters Guild would be common knowledge as they are spread throughout the continent. Maybe instead of having the now king send her to investigate these rumors, he sends her to be his eyes and ears now that the Guild is resurging?

2. Magic isn't exactly based on books and teaching yourself the Language of Magic, which is needed to practice it, without a teacher would have been rather difficult.

Ok, no problem, thanks OP...but I did give her a teacher. Unless you meant to say you'd need somebody to teach her every spell.

Ah my fault, I missed that she learned from the court wizard.

Just fix the mission the King sent her on and everything should be in order.

Of course

As a mage you will need to use the Magic language to use spells, their are two ways of doing so.

You can either say she is using the spell and not actually type out the wording which I am fine with or you can Use this Translator which is for the Inheritance Ancient language but is what we will be using for the magic language

NS Name: Izbien, or Reserka
Character Name: Aywin Marche de Narte
Race: Half Elf
Nationality:
Age: 30
Sex: Female
Strengths:
Knowledge of Cartography, Alchemy, and General Sciences
Social wit and skill
Quickness on her feet
Applied knowledge of bomb-making, poisions, and potions
Weaknesses:
Cowardness
Bossy
Know-it-all
Obsessive in her pursuit of knowledge
Personality:
Aywin grew up in a wealthy well to do family of merchants who specialized in the trade of books, engineering, alchemical, and other pricey objects of knowledge and science. Aywin from a young age was taught the sciences and history. From this, she fell into a love and passion for the knowledge of the world. She learned a few passions that have come to help her gain her current position. She knows how to use and to read maps and methods to navigate using one. She is also versed in the knowledge of alchemical sciences which she has perfected alchemical equation to form a construct of liquid metal which retains some of the intelligence of the magic that was used to make it. Finally, she is well versed in speech and diplomacy; though for completely separate reasons.

She learned the trade of business once she was of age. She learned valuable lessons from her human parents who had adopted her about trade relations, politics, how to haggle, and the like, and she wasn't one to back down from a good deal. Her frugality led her to become in charge of a small contingent of the trading company that shipped and operated in and out of a local lord's estate. From this, she met the local elf lords who had taken a fancy in her wit and intelligence and bought her under to help with local scientific efforts.
She was not without her flaws though many didn't take fancy to her after her stay. She was always correcting people and putting her nose into the business she didn't belong. Her books didn't quite sate her. The court had enough and eventually persuading the chief of engineering, Eynweld Eynna, to send her off to do "field" research far away from the court. Essentially cutting her off from the stability of the estate but also its resources, with minimal resources in her back she headed off disgruntled at the disapproving court searching for a new mission. She is now traveling with a caravan which happens to be an entertainment troop in hopes there misadventures might stumble upon some unknown artifacts that could be bought back to the court to prove herself. As her letters of research and updates are reviewed but never replied to she is getting more and more upset with her estate.

Note: Her human family is pretty elderly, her mother and father live in there manor in that elfen city but their company is run by there human son. The son has some small tensions with Aywin but its more of a rivalry. Aywin quickly wasn't super attached to the company after she left: since she was forced into that small part of the company

Interesting, I see that she hasn't yet joined the guild. Are you intending to do so when the IC starts or?

NS Name: Der Voschland Voxija
Character Name: Javarga Thunderfist
Race (Available are: Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and Half-Orcs): Dwarf.
Appearance:
Javarga not in armor:
Image

Age: 65 (mid-twenties in maturity level)
Sex: female.
Strengths: Physically strong, good with weapons, follows orders
Weaknesses: not that intelligent, bad at strategy, more of a follower than a leader
Personality: Emotional, not in the crying, hysterical way, but that when Javarga feels happy, she feels extremely happy, when she's sad, she's in the lowest of lows, and when this dwarf is angry, get out of her way. Likes fighting and battles. Javarga makes friends rather easily, especially when they share some beer or mead with her.
Biography (At least two paragraphs):
Javarga is a light dwarf, a subspecies of dwarf that lives closer to the sun than other dwarfs and interacts with humans more. She lived in the mountains in the north of the Diocese of Savenoria. Javarga's family, the Thunderfist clan, were merchants who dealt with other races and acted as the middlemen between the mining dark dwarves and non-dwarves. Javarga grew up hearing stories about terrible dragons who destroyed dwarven villages and killed the dwarves living in them. Javarga had a slew of older and younger brothers, and she was the middle child. When Javarga was the dwarf equivalent of a teenager, she decided to grow her beard, instead of shaving it like the other women in her family.
When Javarga learned that the dragons were returning, she was horrified. She immediately joined the Savenorian (?) chapter of the Hunter's Guild. It has been a couple of weeks since she joined the guild, and Javarga hasn't killed any dragons yet, but she's itchin' to do some in.
Equipment: A full body leather suit of armor, a double-bladed axe named "Thing-Flayer", a sword named "Vera", and a shield that isn't named anything.

Generic MT liberal democracy Meh. | I think that by now I've created more lore for my nation than most real-world nations have.
