THIS LAND IS MINE

Introduction
America, the Great Melting Pot, is simmering, too full, and threatening to boil over. The final sanctuary for refugees of a continent destroyed by war, and the most terrible weapons ever devised by man, was not ready to receive so many. In her crowded cities and bustling frontiers, natives and reluctant immigrants jostle for what few comforts remain, fretting over every slight and perceived grievance. New phobia's and prejudices fester alongside ancient feuds brought from the motherlands, as do visions of a new dawn and shining cities upon a hill. The ideals of the American revolution shall come to a head, as the founder's republic takes in the wretched survivors of The Great War. Is it too late to shut those golden doors, or does lady Liberty stand firm? This land is mine, is it yours?
The Great War ended when there was no one left to fight it, when Otto Hahn's deathly rains rendered entire countries dead and unlivable. The war had reached its genocidal peak in 1917, after the Reich had unearthed the rare element 333, and chosen to make a weapon out of it: a gaseous chemical so potent and toxic that it negated any and all protections offered by modern gas masks/suits, that would linger in the soil and in the water months after it's use, to which no living being ( be it flaura or fauna ) was immune. When it's creator, Dr. Otto Hahn first witnessed it's use during combat on the western front, he was repulsed, stating, " I am become death, destroyer of worlds " . This new unstoppable weapon would soon come back to haunt it's creators though, in the form of Hahn's Rain: element 333 contaminated rain. The long lasting life and toxicity of the weapon would allow it to permeate even the weather of the area's where it was used. Towns, cities, villages, every home in every country would feel the bite of Hahn's rain as millions would die. The war would go one for years, neither side having the strength to defeat the other, but also lacking the sense to back down. By 1928, Europe and much of near Asia had been reduced to ruins and wasteland - tens of millions dead, and even more displaced. The war was over, there was no one left to fight it. The survivors, dispersed across the world, unable to live in their barren and toxic homelands. Over a span of less than ten years, 45 million refugees would make their way to the United States. As of 1939, the country struggles in the throes of the still ongoing crisis, economic decline from the fall of Europe, the bristling tension between natives and the new arrivals, and a government barely capable of providing for all it's citizens needs.
What's the Point?
We're about 11 years after the end of the Great War ( 1939 ), whose ending resulted in the near total destruction of Europe and much of western Asia, due to the unforseen after affects of Hahns Rain. America is barely holding on, what with taking in so many refugees all at once. You are to tell the story of individuals living during this time: Americans, foreigners, journalists, clergy, politicians, exiled nobles, bootleggers, musicians - you are free to chose any station that you please, as well as to tell any stories that you should like to chose. Whatever direction you should chose to take is your own.
