[ MAP ] - [ IN CHARACTER ]
Iceland, was always an isolated place. Relegated to the far reaches of the North sea, hugging just below the Arctic circle, it would take thousands of years for man to finally come upon this last stretch of frozen land. As history is a rhyme unto itself, it is fitting then that as this was one of the last places to be defiled by man, it will be the last place to suffer his end. When the bombs rained down forty years ago, destroying nearly all life on Earth, Iceland, like so much of it's past, had seemed to have been forgotten. All the world had killed themselves in a fit of atomic rage, a fate unknown to the denizens of Iceland when they'd awoken upon a misty morning in the spring of '83. Two generations had passed since Armageddon fell, and the survivors of that day would come learn that destruction had not passed them over - the last island of man, was not forgotten, it is merely the last place to go.
Góðan daginn, and welcome to the Last Island of Man. On April 10th 1983, for reasons not entirely known to the denizens of Iceland, a nuclear war started and end in the hours between twilight and dawn, involving various nations and alliances. Iceland, for reasons unknown, seemed to have been sparred the destruction. Forty years have passed since the end of the world, and Iceland has had to contend with being completely isolated. Beyond the Faroese islands and a few settlements on Greenland's eastern coast, no survivors have been met or contacted; explorations into Europe and North America have reported back only dead, radioactive continents, ravaged by dust storms and were atomic fires over forty years old still burn. Just as much as it was saved by it's isolation, it was also trapped. 236,000 people living on an island were only 1% of the soil is arable, were 100% of the land is in either a tundra or sub-arctic biome, were trees have been an extremely endangered species for over a century, an island which had been racked by poverty and primitiveness until the dawn of global trade. The republic would collapse only a few months after Armageddon, unable to handle the famine, plagues, and violence which had begun to engulf the entire island. In the forty years since, only 100,000 people have managed to survive: the hardiest, most intelligent, and savage lot of humanity - you. You shall take the role of one of these survivors. Life doesn't give a set path to follow, and neither has Armageddon, you gonna have to figure it out on your own. Whether or not Iceland becomes the springboard for man to retake the world from, or becomes his final resting place will be dependent upon denizens.
