However, the "National Front" coalition of the Christian Democratic Union, Liberal Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, and Communist Party of Germany were effectively institutional parties under the one-party state controlled by the pro-soviet Socialist Unity Party, “SED”, a merger of the social democrats and communists. The SED created the German People's Congress, “Volkskongress” in 1946, and the Constitution of the German Democratic Republic was ratified in 1948 as a federal, socialist republic, with Wilhelm Pieck elected as its first president.

Economy:
Despite the fallout from the partition of Germany, and on top of paying reparations to the Soviet Union, East Germany has conducted a largely successful economic reconstruction campaign under Soviet guidance and nationalized 60 percent of the economy, seizing industries formerly controlled by Nazi Party members and organizing them into “people’s enterprises”, “Volksbetriebe”. The remaining 40 percent of the economy is left to private enterprises and civil society. By the end of 1948, the Soviet Union reported that East Germany had returned to near pre-war levels of industrial productivity, with a budget surplus of $1 billion GDR marks.

Twelve years of fascist dictatorship, six years of Hitlerian war, have flung the German people into the most dreadful economic, political, and moral catastrophe of their history.

Hitlerian fascism was the instrument of domination used by the wildest reactionary and imperialist elements of finance-capital, by the lords of the armaments combines, and by the large banks and the owners of large estates.

Fascism attained power by splitting the working class. It destroyed all democratic rights and liberties by the cruelest terror and transformed Germany into a military prison.

This cleared the way for an unimpeded imperialist war policy. German imperialism had no compunction about sacrificing the lives and means of existence of millions of workers, farmers, tradesmen, intellectuals, and above all, youth, to its claims of world hegemony; it risked the existence and future of the nation.

How can a way be found out of this catastrophe?

Militarism and imperialist policies of force and war have twice plunged Germany into the greatest national disaster.

To safeguard peace, to reconstruct the German economy, and to preserve the unity of Germany, it is necessary to destroy the remnants of Hitlerite fascism, and to liquidate militarism and imperialism.

Never again must reaction be allowed to rule.

Therefore the working people must decide the fate of the new democratic Germany.

I was just having fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also other people have included their maps, described their histories, mentioned things like their priorities... I don't think I've really done anything that remarkable, apart from using hammers and sickles as bullet points. Plus at least with the maps, it's a nice reference to have when I forget what East Germany looks like, which is often because I'm not German.

Thank you. Back in my day, forum aesthetics and RP lore were a serious pursuit... Middle school was a wild time. But I'll admit it was a totally different game from NS; I'm really a noob here.

Anyway, if accepted I'm not sure how the GDR will play out. The actual history of East Germany and the Cold War in general is pretty fascinating so there's a whole bunch of directions to go down the line, and characters to create. I'm not sure how long these NS type RPs go for, but it would be dope to get through more decades. I'm thinking about stories set in something like the Years of Lead, or something. But we're still far away from even the 60s right now... I'm sure people've been dreaming of space flight since before the first V-2 rocket landed on London, and now we have nukes, but Sputnik isn't until 1957. And the Korean war has been averted / concluded? Maybe could fill in that war's story.

That's what I mean, in this timeline the Korean war in 1950 is (presumably) already over. If there were to be another Korean war, it would be a different kind of war. Maybe the ROK remnants fled to Taiwan and are getting ready for a Bay of Pigs or something.

I know France tested it's first nuclear weapon in 1960, but somehow in this RP, the Americans support the French nuclear program (which they didn't do IRL), which means a test in the 1950s is now more likely. Also, I think you mean the F-101 Voodo which was an American plane (since when I typed in Voodo missiles, all I got was the plane). But that didn't enter service until 1957, and it was only suplied to Canada IRL because they were a close US ally at the time so you probably won't get them in this timeline because of the tense American-Canadian relations.

What I'm most excited about is the early 1950s when I can finally get some great French made planes like the Dassault Mystere IV along with some better navy ships instead of whatever survived WW2, whatever could be salvaged and rebuil, and whatever France took from the Germans as war reparations.
