Biography: A fourth generation Oklahoma native,

George Hanlon was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1970 to Johnathan and Linda Hanlon. His father was a minor but rising real estate mogul in the Plains areas of the United States, as such George grew up in privilege and was somewhat spoiled. A precocious and wild youth with absent parents he was commonly in trouble for pranks and vandalism and more than once his father had to get him of of trouble. This reached a head at age 15 when George got shipped off to military school for much needed discipline.

After 2 years of military school George had settled a bit, he went to VMI for College in 1988 which was a family tradition. He graduated in the middle of his class, greatly improving academically and in discipline over the years, he got a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering before accepting a military commission as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Corp of Engineers.
He served for 15 years eventually reaching the rank of Lt Colonel, which included tours in Afghanistan for a total of 2 years in the country. He served honorably if relatively uneventfully until 2003 when he left the service and returned to Oklahoma. He would enroll at the University of Oklahoma studying business administration and work for his father’s real estate business until 2008 when he would run for Oklahoma’s 3rd District congressional seat, left open from the incumbent’s retirement. In a crowded field his family’s money and his status as a veteran allowed him to win a minor plurality in the primary and then easily win the general election.

Since his first election he has served on the Armed Services Committee and Homeland Security Committees and has served on Ways and Means since 2012. He has authored several pieces of legislation that greatly supported the mining and agricultural interests which fund him and in 2016 was one of the primary authors of Wolf’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The majority of his term had been spent criticizing the Obama administration, especially in military policy, and protecting farm subsidies but since 2016 he has shifted to a Pro Wolf message. He believes strongly in the message of Wolf regarding manufacturing and believes in the importance of the resurgence of domestic manufacturing, and introduced a bill to help build President Wolf’s wall. He holds an interest in foreign policy as well, taking a hardline on Iran and China especially.

In 2014 he was appointed Chief Deputy whip as the primary assistant to the Republican Whip and after the 2018 losses he became the Republican Conference Chairman.
