Verily I profess to every one of you today that there is no higher calling, no greater deed, unto man than to serve the people of one's country. Words cannot express how lucky I feel to be saddled with the immense responsibility of stewarding this beautiful nation of ours for the next two months."

And while I know that many members in this House are partial to the ideas of Chairman Mao or Lenin, let it be known that those ideas are a fundamental affront to the cause of democracy, freedom, and self-determination. If there was any doubt, Mr. Speaker, I challenge the Honorable Members to simply look at Cambodia, Venezuela, or the USSR. There is no better teacher of the evils of socialism and communism than history.

Mr. Speaker, never has the battle ever been any harder, nor the struggle ever so decisive. But we will win. We cannot conscionably allow this nation to fall into the hands of the red menace. We must be the bulwark of democracy in a region threatened by the overreach of the Chinese Communist Party. We must condemn authoritarianism from both sides of the aisle. This Government will be at the forefront of that fight."
