Gods Among Us Character Application
Character DescriptionName: Erik Fregel
Aliases: Angel of Vengeance/Simikiel
Gender: A Man
Age: Chronologically 97; biologically 25.
Appearance:
MotivationsGoals:
Dying, as he is soul bonded with his sister and if he dies, so does she for good.
His goal, at least the one he reveals to the other members of the syndicate, is to make it so that metahumans will be the ones to rule the world. All those who stand in the way of this goal must be destroyed.
However, he has another goal: to give Ana new life. Literally. This however contradicts with his first goal, as giving Ana a new body will make him lose his meta abilities.
He also wants to kill every last Nazi on the planet.
Fears:
Strengths and WeaknessesSource of Power: Soul Bond with his deceased metahuman sister, Ana.
Powers :
Chains of Vengeance: Simikiel fires two chains made of ethereal energy forward for a distance of up to 30 meters at a relatively slow speed. They do not injure nor damage anything or anyone they encounter on the way, but they will pass through. Once they have either reached their maximum range or if Simikiel wills it, the chains snag the last object or person that they have phased through towards him. This does not cause injuries or pain by itself. He can make the chains disappear at will.
Chains of Wrath: Simikiel creates two 6 feet long chains made of ethereal energy that have glaives on their ends and wields them in battle. These glaives are sharp enough to slice through unprotected flesh. The chains themselves cannot be intercepted, but the glaives can be blocked.
Azrael's Gift: Simikiel manifests a ghostly scythe into realspace. He wields this weapon with utter mastery. The scythe also charges energy every time a person within a radius of 50 meters dies; five deaths allows it to fire an outburst of energy with the force of a shotgun.
Death Incarnate: Simikiel is capable of transforming his body into an incorporeal form. In this state, he is incapable of affecting his surroundings, though he can pass through solid objects, cannot be harmed by non-magical attacks, can float up to 50 meters from the ground, and is invisible to the naked eye. He can bring one other person with himself while incorporeal. He cannot remain in this state indefinitely and will turn back to a corporeal form after 10 minutes. He can still be sensed by magic users and thermal sensors. This has a cooldown of 10 minutes in between uses.
Soul Leech: With a slow and deliberate process that may take up to an hour, Simikiel is able to heal his own injuries and extend his lifespan by draining life from a living mammalian creature. This causes excruciating pain to the one being drained from beginning to end.
Rapid Reflexes: Simikiel processes information and stimuli much faster than an ordinary human. As such, his reaction times are twice as fast.
Abilities:
Expert Combatant: He has honed himself in both marksmanship and unarmed melee combat. He is thus both a highly accurate shooter and a dangerous fighter.
Equipment:
1 Barrett M82 Sniper rifle (always in his car's trunk)
4 daggers he keeps in his boots and inner pockets
2 Glock sidearms he always keeps on himself
A pair of magnetic armbands that he uses to attract his weapons back to himself
Weaknesses:
Magic: Due to the overflow of otherworldly power within his body, magical attacks tend to weaken his abilities and himself.
Traumatic Past: Mentioning the names of Ana, Leonora, Thomas, and Jemma cause him to hesitate due to the outburst of painful memories associated with them.
Injury: Being injured while in his physical form prevents him from turning to his incorporeal form.
Background:Job: Part of the metahuman syndicate in secret. He is a jeweler in public.
Legal Status: Simikiel is a wanted terrorist; Erik is just the owner of a jewel shop.
Backstory:
Erike Fregel was born in 1923 in the city of Poznan, Poland. He was part of Poland's sizable Jewish community, and the Fregels especially were moderately wealthy owners of a bakery. Not much happened for most of his early dats, as Erik pretty much lived a normal life for a boy at the time. That is, until the German Reich invaded the Republic of Poland. Poznan, and eventually all of Poland fell to the Germans and the Soviet Union. Deaths were many and the nation was once again the boot of foreign powers, but that wasn't the worst yet.
At first, the tendrils of hatred of subtle and silent like serpents in the darkness. However, it soon intensified; the Fregels were forced out of their home and business. They were placed into a ghetto, where disease was rampant. Erik and his family lived there in terrible conditions… until they were rounded up and placed on a truck sometime in 1941. They were sent to the Sobibor Concentration Camp, wherein all of them, except for Erik, were gassed immediately upon arrival.
Erik was irreversibly changed that day as he, a young man at the time, was ripped away from his family. The Nazis forced him and the others who were seen to be fit for work to slave labor, toiling from morning to evening. He believed that he would not last long after that. Next thing he would see the next day were the bodies piled up near the furnace, and the Nazi devils told him that he was going to help with carrying them to the furnace.
After some time of unrelenting slavery and toil, he heard a voice in his sleep. Not just any voice, in fact. It was his sister, Ana. She spoke into his mind and to his soul; she was like a ghost that none could sense save for her voice. Erik believed that he was going mad, but Ana assured him that he wasn't crazy. She was a metahuman, one with the power to bind her consciousness to another person and grant them abilities in the process. It wasn't until her untimely death in the showers that she realized her gift, but still, she was alive, in a sense.
Some time would pass before the historic escape from Sobibor was planned by an ex-Soviet Jewish officer that was in the camp. It was around this time that Erik's power finally manifested. He had gained the ability of a howling ghost (incorporeal form, ethereal chains, and summoning a scythe). In addition, he was also able to reverse his ageing and heal himself by draining the life out of living creatures; by the time the plan of escape was enacted, he had been able to control his abilities to the full. He would be instrumental in killing some of the SS officers that managed the camp, but they still have mishaps as they weren't able to assassinate all of them. However, 300 out of the 600 inmates still managed to escape.
In 1946, he emigrated to the United States, settling in New York City. He kept a low profile life, taking various jobs over 14 years until he exposed his abilities when he attempted to shield a friend from a gunshot. While the government easily suppressed the news, agents injected him with tranquilizers in the dead of night and brought him to a testing facility. There, they experimented on him, and wondered about the discrepancy between his age and the brand on his arm. They confirmed most of his abilities, albeit with excruciatingly painful experiments; so much so that one of the personnel, Leonora, in the facility began to show sympathy. The head researcher reminded her of her duties; that the man in that cell was a subject, nothing more, nothing less. In the end, however, she helped Erik escape from the facility. Details are scant and the files of the incident have been heavily classified, but some records say she placed a few mice in his cell.
Erik along with Leonora crossed over towards Mexico, where they stayed for the next thirty years. It was at this time that Erik had his own family, with two children named Jemma and Thomas. He allowed himself to age; Ana had been silent.
In 1988, Leonora died from leukemia. In 1990, Jemma and Thomas, who were returning to their home after a night in the movies, were both fatally shot in a crossfire between rival gangs. Erik had once again lost those he had grown to care.
First, he survives the Holocaust with all its horror. And then, he gets experimented on for trying to save someone. And then… his family dies. Again. In the long life that he had lived, Erik lost everyone each time he tried to be a good, functional member of society. Now, Erik Fregel has taken on the mantle of Simikiel, the Angel of Vengeance. Simikiel has been operating alongside the metahuman syndicate in the last few years, gaining the reputation of a dangerous criminal that is practically immune to gunfire. However, Erik Fregel is just some jeweler in Tijuana… No?
