The partisans are preparing for a siege, the White Knights are about to march on Appalachia, there’s a delegation of southern leaders heading for Maryland, and the Emperor is chilling.

And the southern delegation consists out of two people who have distinct private reasons to have good personal relations with the North, one secretly being the leader of the Underground Railroad and the other a railroad tycoon from Virginia with no love lost for the Southern plantocracy.
Interesting developments all around ;)

There is a fine line between using historically common vernacular and inappropriate language, I agree. Especially since we're likely mostly white people in RL, if I would hazard a guess.

I’m not going to lie, the vibe for the RP kinda got ruined for me. It also gave me a bit of anxiety that I didn’t want when I came into the RP, I didn’t come here to wage war (at least so soon), I came to do some character RP and economic management. That along side I have other RPs that require war, and war was something I explicitly wanted to put off. I’m not sure, but I may be pulling out, it’s just not that enjoyable for me anymore.

I really try to avoid them the best I can, because I absolutely hate using them. However, sometimes, anything else would sound strange out of the mouth of these people. It's not my goal to use them, rather, when I use them in the writing, they are there to point out the sick nature of their hatred and ideology.

I’m not considering withdrawing, but I second the notion that the RP should be focused primarily (at least for now) on diplomatic, economic, and political affairs.

Also, I’m waiting to post until my application for Raphael Semmes is accepted or rejected.

As far as I understand it, that only applies to secondary characters that are connected to earlier characters you already have.

So for example I don't think I can just barge into Texas with my Mascogo chieftain yet, since it had no connection to Newton Knight.

You don't necessarily need to get involved in an all-out war. One of the advantages of the basically feudal system in this RP, is that Texas can basically just refuse to send troops to Appalachia, or at least delay its deployments massively.

I do hope we will get an update from the OP soon, regarding the new applications and such. I would suggest we also could use a Co-OP for things like establishing basic alternate history and borders.

I second this notion. One because I haven't even made an IC post yet. And the sole reason for doing that was yes, I was a tad late to the Coronation/Funeral, but aside from that the events seemed to materialize way too quickly. That and the fact I was still trying to piece together what was canon versus non canon as a cooperative effort among all of us so my post would make sense in regards to interactions inside my territory and what was occurring, as well as its relation to other territories, and now I haven't bothered to post because being on the Northern border as Western Tennessee, it would be interesting to know if I'd even have any area to rule for very long. I had planned on fighting Unionist towns in middle-Tennessee and trying to expand my territorial influence as a localized internal civil military conflict.

But alas I agree with the point, war with the North certainly shouldn't happen on Page 10, unless we're all doomed to fail and be annexed this early on, which I feel like based on the strength some of our Southern fellow players have achieved (Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia to name a few) we shouldn't be able to be crushed this early on but also shouldn't have to worry about invasion from the North so quickly. But again, just my opinion.

Richard Taylor - (1826- Present)
Image

Account Name: Magnolixie
Occupation: Officially serving as Viscount of Montgomery, Richard Taylor is an increasingly absent and dispirited noble who focuses more on writing his memoirs than on running the affairs of the city, leaving his duties in the hands of his (often less capable) subordinates.
Motives: Depressed from the loss of his house and his sons during the War of Secession, Viscount Taylor's sole inspiration lay in writing his memoirs, Deconstruction and Reconstruction. He is otherwise an apathetic and empty ruler over Montgomery, leaving day-to-day operations in the hands of the burghers and his wife.
Background: I cannot trust a man to control others who cannot control himself. - Robert E. Lee

Though the Taylor family has now firmly established its reputation in times of war, peace has been unkind to Richard Taylor.

A war hero with military blood in his veins, Richard Taylor served the Confederacy from its inception, starting as a colonel of the 9th Louisiana Infantry and leading his men during the glorious combat of the Battle of Manassas. However, his reputation was already marred by rumors of nepotism and opportunism as allegations rose that he only held his position due to his proximity to President Davis. Receiving a promotion to brigade commander, Taylor led his Louisianans with distinction in the Shenandoah campaign, casting aside initial doubts about his capabilities as a commander. The Congress of Confederate States even issued a joint resolution in praise of Taylor and his men later during the war.

As he would soon find out, the war was eager to take a heavy toll on Taylor. As he rose through the Confederate ranks to command more men in the Trans-Mississippi theatre, the general received heartwrenching news: his two beloved sons had died of scarlet fever during their service in the war. Further complicating matters was news from Kentucky that the historic Taylor home had been destroyed in fighting between Union and Confederate troops. These losses were felt deeply by Richard, a set of wounds that the times of peace would only exacerbate.

The Confederacy won its war of independence, but social pressures and and economic meltdown disintegrated what shreds of democracy that Davis' government had fought for. In its place, a hereditary aristocracy rose out of military veterans and plantation oligarchs. The Emperor of the South, grateful to the Taylors for their sacrifices in the name of the South, intended to reward Richard with a title of nobility, but could not provide him a true hereditary title due to the lack of a male heir to the House of Taylor; to further complicate the situation, Richard had become depressed and isolated, and did not particularly want to deal with the stresses of managing a fief. Nevertheless, the Emperor bestowed upon him the title of Viscount of Montgomery, a position that Richard would quickly come to loathe and avoid.

Under the absent hand of Viscount Taylor, the city of Montgomeryhas stagnated, even by the standards of the fallen South. The city's railroad and cotton oligarchs bicker and quarrel as Taylor, fixated on what he views as a life without luster, remains dormant behind the walls of the old State Capitol. His daughters long since married to his fellow newly-made nobles, Richard has left the city to crumble as he spirals out of control in a depressive mania, focused on completing his memoirs to give meaning to the last carrier of Zachary Taylor's legacy.
Titles/Positions: As the previous details strongly suggest, Richard Taylor holds the title of Viscount of Huntsville, along with heading of the soon-to-be-extinct House Taylor. He also fills the symbolic role of Lord-Commander of Alabama, the practically non-existent duties of which he still manages to neglect.
Holdings: Viceroy Taylor holds the Viscounty of Montgomery, ruling from the old State Capitol that was, at one point, the Confederacy's first capitol building. His wife, Marie, assists in governing these holdings and meets with local power holders on his behalf, as the Viscount sees little point in doing so.
Politics: Absent from his own fiefdom's politics, the Viscount remains stagnant and neutral in the power struggles of Alabama and the Confederacy. He does not have the willpower to pursue a hardline stratified society, nor does he desire to reform the Confederacy into a functional democracy. He simply wants it all to go away...
Faith: The Viscount remains quiet on his public faith, praying that should a God be present to hear him, to provide him strength to redeem his family name and the legacy of House Taylor.

Edit 1: After a critical printing error, the editor would like to apolgise, and inform his readers that Viscount Taylor has not usurped the Archduchy of Alabama.
Edit 2: In a much less critical printing error, the editor would like to apologise to Viscount Taylor for cutting off the section about his service as Lord-Commander of Alabama, though this is a role largely ceremonial, and the Viscount almost assuredly does not read this publication.

I wouldn't be too worried about a full-fledged northern invasion any time soon. It's more on the level of secret support to anti-Imperial rebels.
