Do you not have reserves? Or save certain things in storehouses?

most recent post is a collab with my boy Mizrad which is why it's so long. Luckily it's right after Vacif's post so it looks like a one-liner in comparison :lol2:

If the nations in the northern more parts of the map don’t have food preservation techniques and a concept of storing food for the winter, How on earth could they have survived as long as they did. I would expect for them, disruption of supply chains and managing the cold would be among the harder aspects.

Also the worry that a hard winter means a summer frost. A summer frost is far more damaging to a food supply than a hard winter.

I've seen someone put a cap on how much a family can hunt and keep to themselves which was pretty innovative.

In regards to how fast paced this RP will become, once we settle into things, how often will we be using time skips?

So I'm trying out some IC stuff. Do you guys think I should add some inoffensive colours to my text to tell who's talking and to break up the word blocks, or keep it all black?

I've never really used colors before but seeing several people try it here I've started to consider it. I'll advise what i'll do; try it out and see how you feel about it.

Well, we have animals, but long-term ketosis causes brain damage, and we're eating corpses anyway, not living people.

I don't think anything's gonna grow under a foot of snow my dude. Greenhouses are your best bet now, and even then, that'll be iffy.

Rock salt could be a solution. Iowa has a decent salt mining industry.

I sent a messenger and some Partisans to Utah, how long would it take for them to get there?

implying that a corpse isn't meat and will not cause the same issues a meat only diet would cause?

yeah it's probbaly better to just eat more meats than usual because it would take months to get new crops even in an ideal greenhouse. if you're out already.

People are very fruitful calorie-wise.

And there are no problems with a meat-only diet, the Inuit did it for, well, as long as they've existed.

There are foods that can be grown in snow and cold weather, they're just not enough for a good diet. Peas, spring onions, that sort of thing.

Surely there'd be some sort of steam car or at least they could move faster using bikes?

Ketosis is about carbohydrates, not calories. If you want lots of those from animals, get the liver. that's where the long sugars stay. And indeed, almost exclusive meat is usually fine for people so long as they can get their vitamins usually gained through fruits. But the way you had initially described your situation seemed a lot more desperate than it is.

Nah, our society is just less prudish on cannabalism. We're talking about eating the already-dead, since killing our livestock en masse would hurt us long-term.

But yes, ketosis is about carbs. That's why I'm scrambling for carb-heavy foods. My people are going to end up stupid if they're forced to have a carb-free diet for up to a year.

Somewhat related note, lots of nutrient deficiencies can lead to cognitive impairment. For example severe salt deficiency can bring about violent mania. I bet thats more of an issue these days ( in game) . Random villages succumbing to madness and not knowing why.
