MYSTERIOUS PLANET REBOOT OPEN SIGN UPS
You where a passenger; making a simple flight from New Haven of the Roanoak Colony to New Dallas in the Saul System. You either missed or couldn't afford one of the larger transports. You purchased a ticket on Starlight 5. The ship had to take a detour; the crew wouldn't say why. Three days latter the ship is a washed in a purple glow, it violently shakes- you are ordered to a life pod; and jettisoned with only a sum of other passengers. You don't know where you are, only that this wasn't your destination.
Mysterious Planet places you in the shoes of a survivor of the Starlight 5 incident. You'll begin by emerging from the life pod into the world outside- your fate beyond that, is in the hands of not only yourself but the other survivors- and the world around you.
(Anything you feel the host should know and the place to keep track of what your character has. Anything else RP related can go here from character relations to personal goals.)

Your character will need at least one skill. Skills have experience levels of 1 to 6 that help determine the chance of success. These levels should reflect the character's experience realistically. If your character has a skill replace '__' with '#x' where # is the skill level. The hitch however is that for every 1 level a decade should be added to the character's age. So someone with 2 skill at level one would be in their 20s, anywhere from 20 to 29. Someone who has mastered one skill (has one skill at level 6) will be in their 60s. While one may play a non-Human character life span should be with in the Human range.
The Skills are;
__ Beam Weapons (lasers, plasma, the like)
__ Computer skill (altering a robot's programming, writing a program, displaying information, etc)
__ Demolitions
__ Environmental skill (biology, botany, geology, etc)
__ Gyrojet Weapons (rocket propelled ballistics operated akin to standard firearms- usually used in zerogravity)
__ Martial Arts (Hand to Hand)
__ Medical skill (diagnose illness, treat wounds, stabilize, used in conjecture with technician skill for integrated prosthetics)
__ Melee Weapons (swords, knives, maces, polearms, etc)
__ Projectile Weapons (bows, ballistic rifles, etc)
__ Psycho-Social skill (linguistics and other communication, psychology, hypnosis, etc)
__ Technician skill (repairing machines, opening mechanical locks, adding new parts such as a robotic limb, etc)
__ Thrown Weapons (Javalins, stones, etc)
The game's host will use these skills to determine an outcome to challenges faced by the group. Every character has hidden stats assigned by the game's host, such as 'Stamina'- which come into play behind the scenes. By posting this application you acknowledge that a character's fate is not purely narratively driven and that a factor of chance and ability will play a role. The character may not survive and when declared dead will be out of the game.
THE LIFEPOD
The lifepod is capable of carrying six passengers, it's capable of atmospheric entry, has enough rations for three weeks with a full compartment of six. It has one Med-Kit, a Subspace Radio, a single EVA suit of civilian grade, and a Solar Power Generator (with panels on the top of the pod and capable of extending outward for more coverage if need be). A Parachute and Flotation device are also capable of automatically deploying as need be. Two extendable Oars can be found underneath the seats. The pod has two exits with the entry hatch capable of serving as an emergency exit should the other two be blocked.
Upon the start of the game a random roll with determine the situation and condition the pod (and other pods- if any) is in on the Mysterious Planet. The Starlight 5 was a Starliner, a kind of 'cruise ship of the stars'. First class passengers had private rooms and access to premium venues, second class had some privacy though more utilitarian accommodations (a bit like traveling on a train with sleeping cars) while third was seated much like one in a plane today. Starlight Transport wasn't a major transport company and struggled with competitors- such as Pan-Galactic.

What's New in this Reboot?
While the planet is the same one as before the game is this time far better planned and has adopted a skill system to make sure that the characters ability to contribute to the group is effectively measured and employed for suspense and team planning. The starting area may (again rolling for that area) not be the same as the old game. The Starlight 5 has been given a bit of a downgrade, to emphasis that it wasn't the best transport one could travel in.
Other Questions
- Are you ok with players new to NS RPs enrolling in this? Yes, I am. Every RP could be someone's first. I still remember the first NS RP I joined and how nervous I was.
- Can I be non-Human? Yes you can. You may use the 'other notes' section of the character form to provide the host with information they should know about the species.
- Can we use a skill if we have no levels in it? Yes though it'll be an unmodified chance of success. Skills have a 30% chance of success without level modifiers (each level adding 10% up to the max of a 90% chance of success with a level 6 skill).
