Welcome to the Andromeda Galaxy. The year is 2787.

Galactic is an interstellar politics roleplay. Following a galactic revolution, the leaders of the Andromeda Congress declared victory — then packed their bags and headed back home. To many, victory meant freedom from the Milky Way for each system to govern as it pleased (or to not govern at all). But a few great statesmen realized that without a single galactic government, the systems would fall into isolated disarray.

A constitutional convention was called to found a government for the Galaxy. Assuming you meet the minimal requirements, you will instantly be a member of the constitutional convention from a planet or system of your design. This is our OOC and sign-ups thread.

The Latest
The Interstellar Constitutional Convention has been called in Respite, a major city in the Orion system. Delegates from across the Galaxy are expected to arrive soon to begin drafting the Constitution of Andromeda.

Political Ideology: Notoriously neutral on most issues. Supporter of galactic federalism.
Background: Allison Ricardo is an Alpheratzan politician and former General of the Andromeda Galactic Army and President of the Interstellar Constitutional Convention. Previously, she led Andromedan forces to victory in the Galaxy's war for independence from the Milky Way.

Ricardo received her initial military training and command with the Alpheratz Regiment of the Milky Way Armed Forces. She was later elected to the Alpheratz Interplanetary Council and served in government. She was named a delegate to the Andromeda Congress, where she was appointed Commanding General of the Galactic Army. She commanded Andromedan forces in the defeat and surrender of the Milky Way during the Siege of Perseus. She resigned her commission after the Treaty of Earth in 2783, then became an Alpheratzan delegate to the Interstellar Constitutional Convention, where she was elected presiding officer.

Political Ideology: Personally religious (born into the Infinitarian Church), Alestrandrix is a firm supporter of civil liberties, and believes in loose federalism with power concentrated at the Planetary level.
Background:
Temperance Alestrandrix is a Julissan politician who represents the planet of Nadir in the Interstellar Constitutional Convention.

Born to a family of devout Infinitarianists, she was raised in the background of faith in a higher purpose. At sixteen, she was voluntarily registered in the Enochian Order and became a Beguine of the Obadiahan Priory on one of Nadir's inhabited moons, Leuta. In that role, she became responsible for a number of duties most prominently including the wellbeing of laypeople living around the Priory, but also a number of more menial tasks such as cleaning and accounts - for the sake of tradition most parts of the Enochian Order still use physical means for accounting, such as books.

After nine years in this role, she had become a senior Beguine and was noted for her organizational talent. An unfortunate opportunity for progress arose when Prioress Trueity passed away at 168. The Elisha Abbey, which their Priory was responsible to, selected Temperance to become the new Prioress after a series of interviews and traditional challenges. As Prioress, she would more fully develop and display her impressive organization and coordination skills, up to and including turning the first net profit in the history of the Priory by increasing efficiency in a number of areas, and growing cash crops instead of competing with agriculturalists on the moon that produced cheap food.

The turnaround in the fortunes of the priory led to a general increase in charitable support for the nearby communities, and Temperance's organization of volunteer efforts to restore aging infrastructure and improve general wellbeing made her very popular among both the religious and irreligious groups living nearby. She rose to the position of Abbess in 2757, which effectively gave her oversight of all the Order's operations on Leuta.

As Abbess, she oversaw broad liberalization of many rules and restrictions (up to and including allowing males to join the Order) and expanded her own political role, serving as an advocate for a number of groups to the local governments. While she proved a successful Abbess, her more controversial reforms proved unacceptable to some of the highest in the Enochian Order, and in 2764 she "voluntarily" left her service in the Order. An election to the Planetary Parliament that year saw a draft campaign to have Temperance run. She was eventually convinced to do so, and established the Civic Party which won 11% of the vote in the election and became a junior Government Coalition partner. Factions of her proteges have since risen to power in the Order but she has consistently declined to return to service.

With the rapidly deteriorating inter-galactic crisis, she did not run for re-election at the end of her term in Parliament. She was a forming member of the Civic Volunteer Army (CVA) which supported the Andromedan cause through peaceful measures, and pivoted as the war accelerated to being a homefront support force, performing defense drills, keeping industries working, and other such measures. She was also invited to serve in the Julissan Emergency Government, a system-wide establishment formed during the revolutionary war. Her primary role, a success, was the stabilization of regular law enforcement during the war, to prevent anarchy.

In 2772 she was elected the Executive Secretary of the CVA Central Committee, and through until the end of the war served in a position of Galactic prominence, organizing aid to damaged systems, supplying Andromedan troops with care packages, and coordinating volunteer medical efforts. Occasionally, the CVA served as an unofficial force multiplier for the Andromedan Military, and while Temperance publicly disagreed with the CVA being used as a militant force she did coordinate behind closed doors with the government and armed forces on certain occasions.

With peace finally won, the Nadir Planetary Government has asked her to serve as their representative to the Constitutional Convention, a role she graciously accepted.

Yes, though be sure to consider the social effects of human colonization of the Andromeda Galaxy. Racism might potentially play a role in galactic politics, for instance.
