Welcome (back) to the NS Parliament RP!

What is this?
This is a character-driven RP in which we roleplay as politicians in a fictional nation. This RP, now the NS Parliament, has origins in the former NSG Senate. We have two simple starting guidelines:

    1. We are located in the Southeast Asian island nation of Banduria. We are a republic with a parliamentary system.. The nation has a large Chinese population, with a mixed Dutch-Chinese minority and several other minority groups. The details of Banduria as a nation are listed in this Google doc, and I encourage you to read it over to get a good picture on what kind of nation we're roleplaying in.
The rest is up to the players! In this RP, we will legislate and politick, ally and backstab, and so much more! It is your choice what your character will be. Prominent and outspoken? Shady and quiet? Progressive? Conservative? Fascist? Communist? Centrist? Government? Opposition? Crossbencher? Journalist? Activist? The list goes on!

As soon as you submit you application, unless rejected, you become a Member of the (imaginary) Parliament of Banduria. You can then feel free to begin participating in the RP. You can do things like drafting a bill, voting on bills, and joining or creating a political party.

Where does it all go on?

Our official Discord server can be found here.

Our official forum (where certain RP threads will be found) is found here
.

Threads

OOC Thread (YOU ARE HERE)

For general OOC discussion regarding the RP. OOC.

Chamber

For debates, votes on bills, and amendments. Strictly IC

Life Outside

For all other roleplay. From walks in the park, to restaurant bombings. Strictly IC.

Character database (offsite)

For posting details on your character, your organisation, your town/region, or your pet goat. Mostly IC.

Party threads (offsite)

For communicating with your party, recruiting new party members, and telling the world what your party stands for. Mostly IC.

Speaker's office (bill repository) (offsite)

For posting bills. IC.

Who's in charge?
Our administrators run the RP and their decisions are final.
We don't have strict rules, other than that godmodding is prohibited and our admins are fully in charge.
In the case of rule violations or unacceptable conduct, the offender will be warned. After two admin warnings within a month, disciplinary actions may escalate to a suspension or eventually a ban.

Great to see this up!

It may be cool if we were able to incorporate both the NS forums and some other offsite venue to make this work. So for instance we could have an OOC/IC thread on NS with a bill repository or twitter feed elsewhere. I don’t know if that’s too confusing for people to follow, though. I just think that, if we’re going for all offsite some day, we should at least start off half on NS so that we build up a reliable following.

That is something that I was thinking about, especially if NS admins have a problem with it being completely offsite. If that did happen, likely the only two threads on the forums would be the Chamber and our OOC thread, as those are the main two threads. Everything else would be offsite.

We've also got our forum set up although not much is going on yet;
https://nsparliament.boards.net/

And here's the link to our only current proposal, Banduria;
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kel ... yPpxg/edit

Most discussion around the RP happens in our Discord, and I encourage anyone who hasn't already joined to join.

I will only be rejoining if we actually have to campaign, rather than effectively stacking our parliament with meat.

Similar to say, Land of the Free, we'll have actual NPC-driven elections for seats, rather than people just taking a new seat.

I want actual political campaigning, where you have to work for NPC votes, rather than just inviting as many friends as possible to win a majority.

As a suggestion, why not just have an OOC, IC, and Chamber instead of so many different threads? You can probably merge every thread other than chamber into one IC thread

In my opinion, the character database is essential to this RP. The bill repository is less essential but if we can keep it I want to keep it.

The other issue is with stuff like Twitter. It's a useful feature, but having it in the IC thread does cause people to get annoyed by the spam. Having no limit on the threads we can create will mean stuff like Twitter could be separated into a separate "Social Media" thread.

Elections will be discussed, but as it stands anyone who joins and wants a seat in Parliament will get a seat in Parliament. That's how it works in this RP, and I don't want to change that. We may introduce an NPC element and stuff like campaigns to influence it, but I also want to make this more about character driven RP over numbers and campaigning. If you want campaigning and fully simmed elections to be the focus, there are plenty of Reddit sims that do just that. This sim is supposed to be different and I'm not going to change one of the main things that draws me to this sim.

Going back to the subject of the forum, another option that's been brought up is to just use Discord and have less important and "spammy" threads like the Database and Repository be channels on the Discord server. This would also mean that Discord would probably be made mandatory or at the least extremely recommended for the roleplay, which some people might not like. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

I mean, we have enough people on the discord to start this RP asap if we wanted to.

We've got a poll going for what proposal should be adopted for our nation on the forums.

https://nsparliament.boards.net/thread/ ... ration-nsp

The options are Banduria, a former Dutch colony in southeast Asia;
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kel ... sp=sharing

And Tahahnrin, a republic in eastern Europe;
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11AU ... sp=sharing

If you're interested in the future of this RP, please create a forum account and vote on the proposals.

With a vote of 7-2, Banduria has won the poll and will be the new scenario.
