Legacy of the Titans

OOC

A chorus of bells echoed over the spanning campus grounds of the University of Thermopylae as the clock struck three o'clock in the afternoon, signaling the end of any final afternoon classes. Students eager to get back to their dorm rooms rushed out of exits of the buildings, chattering with one another over what their plans were for the weekend. Professors passing by could only shake their heads whenever they overheard these conversations, pretending that they hadn't heard about the upcoming house parties and other shenanigans. After all, they understood all too well that many of these students needed the break from the challenging curriculum the university provided.

Such carefree sentiments were not felt, however, in the office of the current president of the university. Sitting in a wheelchair with its top section covered with a large blanket, a man appearing to be in his late fifties slowly stroked at the thick grey beard that stretched well past his chin as he read through a large packet of paperwork before him. His tan skin held a mazework of wrinkles that showed a history of frequent scowling, an expression he was currently wearing as he flipped towards the final section of the thick sheet of paper.

"You know, people would probably be less keen on avoiding you outside of your training sessions if you smiled a little more, Chiron."

Staring over the rim of his thick glasses, the president looked across his table at the source of the voice, a relatively young man who sat with his thick muscular arms crossed in front of his chest. A teasing grin sat on his face, which only seemed to aggravate the president as a annoyed sigh escaped his mouth.

"It's Dr. Allen, when we're on campus here, Professor Iraklidis," Chiron replied in an irritated tone, clearly having not found the joking nature of the man in front of him amusing. "Who would have thought, the man who was capable of slaying the Nemean Lion with his bare hands was not capable of performing even the simplest manners," he continued, shaking his head in disappointment. His comment garnered a roll of the eyes from the former disciple before his playful expression slowly faded away as his eyes wandered towards the report.

"So, how bad is it?" he asked, his voice low and filled with worried anticipation. Chiron hesitated to answer, biting at his lower lip briefly before tossing the stack of paperwork in front of him.

"Attacks are continuing to increase at a rate that is abnormal, even for this time of the year. In the past month alone, three demigods have been found dead, the cause of death being from attacks by monsters. We're losing so many satyrs that it's getting hard to convince those remaining to go out and do their jobs, forcing us to choose between retrieving demigod children or dealing with the attacks the monsters have been carrying out against the mortals. Just last week a fishing boat was sunk off of the coast of Florida by none other than Skolopendra with no survivors."

A frown appeared on the face of Heracles, his eyebrows scrunched downwards as he flipped briefly through the reports, seeing the various pieces of news articles, sightings, statistics, and other pieces of information in front of him. After a few moments of silence, he pushed away the stack of papers and brought his gaze back up to Chiron.

"Any signs from Olympus?" he asked.

"None," Chiron replied as he shook his head. "Iris has refused any requests to allow anyone passageway into the city as well, including myself. I tried asking what the reasoning behind this was, and I was only told that it was not my concern."

Heracles raised an eyebrow at this, but did not press any further on the subject. While he still held property within the city, he had not bothered to return ever since his former instructor had asked him to return to the mortal realm years ago in order to help train the newest generations of demigods. He never bothered staying in touch with his godly father, partially due to the fact that Hera still regarded him with upmost disgust even after thousands of years.

"Has the Oracle been given any visions yet?" he reluctantly asked, concern filling his expression as he waited for an answer.

"Surprisingly, no. However..." Chiron paused, glancing out of the window next to him to look at the crowd of students passing by, many of which held smiles on their faces as they walked across the sprawling campus. For them, their most pressing concerns were things as trivial as an upcoming chemistry test. Yet the president of the university knew that for those who possessed the blood of the Gods, their lives could soon be turned upside down. And when that moment arrived, he would only be able to pray that their countless hours of training would keep them alive.

"...I fear that we may not have long until she does."

Lyra Kriophora, sword of the Hellenes!

A clash of wood and metal, shuffling through the dusty, sandy sparring arena in the outskirts of Thermopylae, was rapidly approaching its final conclusion. As soon as her lecture on the poetry of Dionysios Solomos and the themes present within his patriotic poems and the Hymn of Liberty ended, Lyra packed her belongings and made her way to training, much like most of the full demigods attending studies with her.

The blue-haired warrior rolled to the side, narrowly ducking under a powerful swing from a war hammer and standing face to face with a tall, burly, redheaded Ares spawn, decked out with full body bronze armor. Apparently, he was holding back the full extent of his strength, and yet Lyra could still register the superhuman force behind them. All she had with her was her aspis and a wooden training spear, not even a real javelin. And yet, she knew it was going to be enough.

Lyra rose to full height, eyeing her opponent down much like he did her, both waiting for the other to make a move. For the last two or so minutes, the two of them had been dancing a rather intricate dance - as much as the man would swing, all he would hit is the air, or, at best, the woman's shield.

Surely, he's gotten frustrated by now. And yet, both of them knew very well that this dance wouldn't last. Luck always runs out, or decides to favor the other side. The redhead surely knew that, as long as he continued swinging without reprieve, he's gotta hit the slippery gal one day. Lyra knew that even a single strike is going to knock her down to the ground, so she had to find a way to win before that happens.

Frustrated and seeking a victory with one blow, he'll forgo defense. As long as the initiative is in my side, he won't have a way how to respond. A hammer can't really answer to piercing attacks. You need a shield or a buckler for that, and he's got none...

Just as Lyra's train of thought concluded, the redhead lunged at her, swinging his hammer. This time, Lyra knew exactly what to do. She suddenly tapped her foot forward, sliding it across the sand and whipping up a burst of dust with a sweep. The hammer, driven by inertia, lunged forth regardless and collided with the girl's shield - instead of ramming into it, however, the hammer slipped, the shape of the shield redirecting the force to the side and turning what should have been a finishing blow into a falling hazard.

Lyra only had a few seconds before her opponent fell, stumbled and likely got himself back up, starting it all over. She only had a single shot to put an end to the spar and went right for it - the butt end of her spear suddenly lunged at the demigod's throat.

He dropped his hammer and fell back, collapsing onto his bottom and clenching onto his neck while the sound of a sharp whistle reached them both. He finally took a deep breath, coughed several times and yelled:

"What the hell was that about?! Who kicks sand into someone's face?!"

Lyra had taken off her aspis and held it by her knees while staring at the sky - getting interrupted in the middle of prayer, however, she turned back at her fallen peer with a look of faint contempt, and responded:

"You're going to tell that to a monster?"

Sighing, Lyra picked up her weapons and made her way out of the sandy ring.

"Whoever was planning to go next, it's your turn."

"Alright, double or nothing here. Your whole tab is on me if you hit this one. Red target, two hundred yards, moving left to right."

Staring down the spanning target range in front of them, Troy could barely make out the target that his friend Ashton had called out. Being on the size of a basketball, at this distance it barely registered as a small dot to him, but nonetheless Troy retrieved an arrow out of the quiver on his hip. Nocking the arrow and pulling back on the string, Troy felt the fletching of the end of the wooden shaft brush up against the side of his right cheek. Closing his eyes and focusing on his breathing, he forced the slight shivers that rocked up and down his body to steady themselves, as even the minute shake could throw off his aim.

Standing next to him, Ashton attempted to put on a look of confidence, sure in himself that there would be no way even a child of Apollo could make such a shot. Given the dreadful state of affairs that was his bank account, he was desperate to find any means of not having to pay for his lost bet, so he had chosen to roll the dice on what should by all accounts be an impossible shot to make. However as the seconds ticked by, a growing sense of doubt began to seed within him, causing the son of Dionysus to begin to reconsider what he had just done.

"You know, Troy, maybe we should just call this off and-"

Whatever he had to say next was cut short, as suddenly the sound of a bowstring thumping erupted, followed by a loud whistling noise as Troy's arrow cut through the air towards the target. A split second later a heavy thud was heard as the arrow embedded itself into the center mass of the red target, nearly knocking the reinforced pad off of its moving pedestal in the process. Ashton's mouth went agape as he looked on with a mixture of surprise and horror at the sight, and more than a few nearby demigods stopped whatever it was they were doing to likewise look on in awe.

Lowering his bow, Troy gave a small nod as he saw what he had done, positioning his weapon so that it was slung over his right shoulder. Ignoring the many stares he was receiving from his fellow demigods, Troy approached the still frozen Ashton and gave him a small pat on the shoulder.

"I've always wanted to try that top shelf whiskey there at the Hot Gates. Thanks for being such a generous friend, man. Now come on, let's go watch some fights."

Walking past Ashton, Troy ignored the glares he received from many of the other demigods who had slowly began to return to whatever it was they were doing, more than a few expressions of envy on their faces as Troy played off the whole ordeal as something minor. After a few moments, he heard Ashton catch up behind him, muttering a flurry of swears in both Greek and English as he realized the state of affairs he was now in. While Troy showed no signs of this to his disgruntled friend, the son of Apollo knew that he wasn't going to actually drain what little remained of his friend's bank account when they went out later, at most ordering a beer. Still, it was more than amusing for him to watch as the color slowly drained from his friend's face as he overheard him mumbling over the price of drinks at the town's favorite drinking destination for students of the university.

As the two approached the sparring area of the training facility, known affectionately by its members as "The Pit", Troy's attention was caught by what seemed to be the most mismatched pairing. A small blue haired girl, armed with only a shield and spear, was in the midst of facing off with a brutish redheaded male. Much to his surprise, even as the redhead sent down a flurry of crushing blows down towards his opponent, the girl seemed more than capable of handling herself. Troy's eyes widened as he watched the girl kicked of a cloud of dust into her opponent's eyes, using the distraction to send the butt of her spear into the throat of the boy. As the dust cleared, the victor was made clear, even as the redhead tried to argue over the ethics of the girl's tactics.

"Sheesh, that's a bit...rough," Ashton said with a grimace, watching as the defeated redhead rubbed away the layer of dust and dirt that covered his face. Looking back to Troy, the shaggy haired son of Dionysus elbowed his friend in the ribs. "You know, I tried to hit on her once at the library back during Freshman year. Wasn't that bad of a rejection, but yeesh."

Troy looked over at his friend with a look of amusement. "You know, I don't know if I'm more surprised that she didn't give you the same treatment or at the fact that you actually went to the library."

Ashton responded with a look of indignation, seeming about to respond with what was likely some meek comeback when suddenly his face went pale. Turning around to see where he was looking, Troy saw the aforementioned girl walking in their direction, likely also wishing to watch the upcoming bouts. Shaking his head at the cowardice his friend displayed, Troy's gaze met the girl's, causing Troy to give her a small wave.

"You know, as someone who is studying to become a medical professional, I can't say I approve of crushing the trachea of a fellow demigod," he called out to her in a teasing manner.

It was a hot Friday afternoon and most students of the University of Thermopylae had already begun to head home and relax or plan out some fun social event to spend their evening. Many among them, however, didn't lead lives as carefree as those of his peers. Those who were the offspring of the Gods were burdened with the knowledge that, outside of Thermopylae, the forces of chaos were out to hunt them, and so, even though their training classes were done for the day, many opted to remain in the campus a while longer to practice their combat skills, either alone or with a sparring partner. The training grounds, an indoor enclosure divided into several areas, was fairly populated as it often was after regular classes were over, especially 'the Pit': an area divided into several small arenas simulating various environments, where demigods could put their skills to the test against each other.

Raven Blake had not been expecting to spend part of his afternoon at the Pit that day. Just a few minutes earlier, he had been more than eager to get home and continue working on his screenplay, a topic discussed during his last class of the day having given him a surge of inspiration to continue working on his stagnant project. His head was in the clouds as it often was, swimming in a sea of possibilities as he began his journey back to his dorm. But things rarely went according to plan for him. As soon as he stepped out of the building where he had been taking classes, a yellow hurricane assaulted him, and before he was able to fully realize what was going on, he found himself being dragged off towards the training grounds located on campus.

After a moment he realized it was his friend, Danica Tevling, who had for some reason gotten it into her head that she wanted to have a sparring match with him before heading back home for the day. Never one to question the girl's seemingly random fancies, he nonetheless protested, but ultimately relented - even if he didn't want to fight, it never hurt to stay prepared, and in the end, who could say no to that eager face and those pretty little eyes?

That was how Raven found himself in his current predicament, decked out in training gear and holding a rubber-tipped spear while forcing his body to dodge and roll out of the way of Danica's unrelenting onslaught, the two struggling to best each other in combat. Needless to say, he was at a disadvantage here - he was not a born fighter, and though years of training had made him quite adept at combat and the use of the lance, he didn't have the divine blood to back it up. Among all the children of Ares, Enyo and Athena present in Thermopylae, he was just a normal guy with a sharp stick... or rather, a rubbery one. It did not help matters at all that Danica was overly committed to the sparring match, treating it like a challenge and using her very best moves in order to take him down. Her competitiveness could be a cute trait of hers sometimes, but...

Ugh... focus, Raven!

Diving out of the way of yet another spear thrust, the black-haired young man was quick to realize that being constantly on the defensive was a tactic that only worked if you had more stamina than your opponent, and that was far from the case here. He would just tire himself out and be easy pickings for the blonde girl. He had to go on the offensive if he wanted to have a shot at finishing this.

But how... That was the question. He was no master of the spear, and while he was sorely tempted to use his divine gifts to get the upper hand - no doubt as a result of Danica's competitiveness rubbing off on him whenever they sparred - he didn't think it was right to use them in a situation like this.

There!

Finally, Raven saw his chance. Instead of rolling away from another lightning-quick spear thrust, the son of Hecate knocked the tip away with the shaft of his own spear and then rushed in for the kill - figuratively speaking of course - delivering three stabs in quick succession. He doubted it would be enough to best Danica, but if he could keep her on her toes, perhaps he'd find an opening. Just in case, though, he made sure to keep an eye on her spear.

Lyra Kriophora, sword of the Hellenes!

Lyra couldn't wait to exchange her training spear for a real weapon and go have some actual training. The need to switch to these blunt, childish spears whenever sparring against one another simply did not resonate with her. It's a harsh world out there, after all, and it was only getting harsher by the day. For now, however, she just shook her head a little to clear her mind of her thoughts and continue making her way out of the pit. There were a few more spars taking place which she can spectate and get a hang of how everyone else is performing, and she's got a half-finished novel she can bring to the Literature Club to continue reading once that is said and done...

As she departed, Lyra was met by two young demigods of roughly the same age as her, both of them familiar to the woman somewhat. Ashton... not for a good reason, and perhaps because of that, he turned pale and began to cower. The other, Troy, was less familiar, and acted with more confidence, waving and then sending a snarky comment.

With an indifferent expression on her face, Lyra looked over her shoulder - the man she had just beat was still rubbing his shoulder, but didn't seem any worse for wear, and was making his way out of the arena after her. From the glare in his eyes, she already expected a rematch fairly soon...

"He'll live." Lyra bluntly replied after turning back at Troy. "And know to protect his neck next time."

Before she could bring up anything else, her eyes darted towards the sparring match taking place in the other pit before them.

Is that Raven?

Right as she stepped by Ashton and Troy and leaned forward while holding onto the fence of the arena, she saw exactly that - her literary peer, struggling in spearwielding melee against a shorter blonde girl. It was odd to see someone as calm as collected like Raven decked out in training gear and engaged in a clash, especially since he was actually holding his own somewhat, even against someone with clearly more skill and experience.

"Well that's a pleasant surprise..." Lyra muttered, stepping back from the fence and standing next to Troy. "He's clearly unable to take back the initiative in the fight, though. Aside for a fluke, I'm not sure if he can win this."

Unless, you know, you use your powers, idiot.

Leaning up against the fence next to Lyra, Troy let out a small scoff at her comment. "I think it would call for intervention from Ares himself to give him even a fighting chance," he said, watching as the two combatants exchanged blow after blow. Furrowing his eyebrows, he tried to get a better gauge on what was all occurring, but given that close quarters combat like this was far from his expertise, it was hard to pinpoint any specific flaws or strengths either fighter had outside of a general sense of whom the better fighter was.

"You know, if I had to take a bet-"

Without even bothering to look back, Troy quickly covered up Ashton's mouth with his hand, stopping him from putting any more money down that he couldn't afford to lose. Troy had been merciful, but as for Lyra, he didn't need to have the prophetic wisdom his father possessed to know that he would not be given the same treatment, especially after what he had just admitted to him earlier. The son of Dionysus let out a muffled series of curses before he realized what his friend was doing, and quickly ceased his protests and stopped whatever it was he had to say.

Returning his attention back to the girl next to him, a thought passed through Troy's mind as they continued to watch the two demigods before them dueling with one another.

"You know that even if this guy manages to win, Dani's not going to accept the loss, right?" he said, half questioning and half informing as the two continued to lean over the fence and watch the spectacle. A small amount of pity flowed into Troy as he watched the outmatched male opponent desperately try and hold on for dear life to what little advantage he had gained in their previous engagement.

"Children of Nike are tenacious by default, but this girl...She's on a whole new level," he finished, memories of what the various encounters he had with her in the past returning to him.

With classes over for the day, Danica Tevling, daughter of Nike, could finally have some fun. She had beentrying to figure out exactly what to do when, lo and behold, a familiar sight had caught her eye. Target acquired.

Meandering through the crowd of students, Dani came upon a dark haired boy and grabbed him by the arm, dragging him along with her. "Alright Raven! Our mission is to fight to the death, taking no prisoners and holding nothing back. You vs me, in the pit, no mercy." Giving a large grin, she released his hand amd twirled to face him upon arrival. "Well poodle-boy, let's see what you got. After this, you can pick our next activity."

Once the son of Hecate agreed and both prepared themselves, Dani immediately went on the offense. It seemed that the boy was having trouble doing more than simple defense, so Dani fought harder, hoping to force him into action. Soon, he made his move.

Blocking the first two strikes with her shield, she let out a small compliment. "Alright, looks like you do have some fight in you! Now let's see how you handle this new trick I've been dying to try."

Deflecting the spear away with her own, Dani retreated backwards to the edge of the ring. However, her movement hardly stopped there, as she released her left handed-spear towards Raven's right shoulder. Directly following this, Danica charged to his left with just her shield. Moving low, below his waist, she swung her shield diagonally at his hip trying to knock him off balance. Her shield was held high to block any attacks from above, and her other arm moved to catch any other attacks and trip him up through her leg.

Raven couldn't keep a thin smile from forming on his lips as his attacks managed to drive back the daughter of Nike, despite failing to actually hit her. With that he had managed to buy himself some room to breathe, and it seemed like she might've even been impressed by his counterattack!

Far from growing complacent and letting his guard down, however, the young man instead kept his senses sharp as he observed the blonde girl, who was retreating to the very edge of the arena. "Yeah, I'm not all bark and no bite like some other people." He replied to her comment, though he immediately grimaced in regret. She already have him a lot of trouble over one of his gifts, and talking like that would just make it worse.

In any case... I should've pressed my advantage instead of trying to sound cool. Damn it, Raven!

As soon as the thought had finished forming, Danica tossed her spear at him. Having kept an eye on it since before, Raven didn't find it hard to sidestep the flying weapon in such way that he faced it as it flew past him - however, he noticed perhaps a little too late that this essentially exposed his back to his opponent, whom he had spotted rushing to his left out of the corner of his eye.

Too late to turn back... I might as well commit!

With that thought in mind, Raven used his body's momentum to carry on his turning motion while gripping his spear with his right hand, crouching low as he whirled around to face Danica once more with his spear making a sweeping motion across the ground just before she was able to reach him. With any luck, she'd fall to the ground, and if she managed to jump over the attack and keep a good enough footing to resume her attack on him, he was now in a better position to block with his left hand. After all, she only had a shield on her now.

Sidestepping but still keeping slightly low, Dani sped up to a full sprint. "Now bark for me dog boy!"

With an agility befitting of her mother and her toned form, she stepped on the wooden part of his rubber tipped spear and launched herself forward at him. Her shield raised to brace against any attempts of his to try and strike her as her free hand reached for her prize. Using her own momentum from her sprint and her jump, she flung at his head like an arrow, aiming to knock him back and onto the ground under him.

Rebecca Jones
That Friday had began how past few days of Rebecca's life had, with a nightmare. It wasn't the same nightmare every time exactly, but it was always eerily similar. She stood among a strange terrain, the sky was bright red and the earth around her desolate. It always began with her alone, but she was joined by tall man in traditional Greek armor. He brandished a flaming spear and stood atop a chariot. There was no doubt in her mind that this man was Ares, her father. Normally that might be a comfort to demigods, who so rarely see their godly parents but for Rebecca the sight brought chills down her spine. She couldn't speak to him, he only spoke to her. "You cannot avoid your destiny my child. You are the warrior child, and when the war rages you shall be my most feared general. Look not to your friends, but to blood. For in war, nothing but blood matters." In that moment the scene around her shifted, Rebecca appeared in full armor, spear in hand. She was leading an army of faceless men, blood pooling on the ground around her. She had a cruel and animal like expression on her face.

"You shall be my sword, and we shall forge an empire"

With that she awoke in a cold sweat. You need to tell someone. She thought as she seemed to everyday this week. For demigods dreams were rarely just messages from your subconscious they could also be communications from the gods or even have predictive natures. She knew that was true in her mind but a part of her doubted. What would I even say? Hey, I think Ares is planning a war and he wants me to betray my friends? Not only did it seem silly to accuse the war god of wanting to start a war, but how could she make such a serious accusation without any proof? It was an easy way to get her half siblings to hate her. Still, the dreams caused a sinking feeling in her stomach and she barely managed any focus during that day of class. Upon her last class she headed to soccer practiced, which thankfully helped clear her mind. Soccer was her true passion after all. Still practice would inevitably have to end, and Rebecca would once again be forced to deal with her father's ominous words.

“She should have started with that move.” Talia Croft grumbled to herself as she watched Lyra drop one of the Ares boys. Proving why his father was the god of war and not the tactics used to win it, the idiot immediately began complaining about losing unfairly. “Isn’t one of the rules of war cheat often, win often.” She mused, just audible enough for Ares group to hear. “Oh right, the only unfair fight is the one you lost. Guess that explains why you’re always complaining about everyone else cheating.”

Walking over to Lyra, Talia paused as she noticed her talking with Troy. Him and Talia had a history full of words not easily taken back by both parties. “You need to stop playing with your food.” She told Lyra, making a point to ignore Troy.

His sweep, it seemed, didn't quite work as intended - the blonde girl stepped aside and then stepped on the shaft of the spear, immobilizing it. As she charged at him, time seemed to slow down to a crawl for the young man, who ran through several scenarios in his head to figure out how to get out of his predicament or better yet, turn the tables on his opponent. However, instead of reacting based on this, he simply froze. Danica was the type of person who would do just about anything to achieve victory, even in a friendly competition like this, but he wasn't, and some of the options that crossed his mind could potentially hurt someone he considered a close friend more than a sparring match warranted.

So in that moment of lucidity, aside from moving his head to the side to avoid being grabbed, he did nothing and was promptly knocked onto his back by the weight of the daughter of Nike who was now on top of him. This presented an entirely new set of problems for Raven, who was about to try and figure out how to throw Danica off, only to immediately notice how close he was now to the blonde girl. As a result of her maneuver, her grinning face was now mere inches apart from his, a situation Raven couldn't easily ignore just for the sake of winning. Worse yet, thanks to the intensity of their bout, Danica's hair, previously tied up in a messy bun on top of her head, had come loose and was now touching his face, the young man suddenly realizing he was able to faintly smell the scent of her shampoo. The closeness of their bodies just added another layer of awkwardness to his predicament.

Painfully aware of it, yet incapable of doing anything about it, Raven found himself terribly flustered by the situation, his face taking on a distinct red shade that was all the more striking due to the normally pale color of his skin. Instead of trying to think of a way to gain an upper hand in this match, the young man wound up desperately trying to find a way to get out of this situation as quickly as possible.

"I give up!" He shouted, perhaps a bit louder than necessary, much to his distress. "I don't want to spar anymore!" He stated afterwards in what was perhaps a slightly childlike tone, which he hoped wouldn't be taken to mean that he was being a sore loser - he was usually quite gracious in accepting defeat, but in this one occasion he really just wanted the match to stop. Still lying on the ground, Raven crossed his arms in front of his chest with a disgruntled expression on his face, hoping that his anger would somehow manage to cover up his profound embarrassment.

This is why I don't like sparring with you.

Lyra Kriophora, sword of the Hellenes!

While Lyra remained focused on the battle, scanning Raven and Danica's moved - or talking with lack of moves - Troy continued speaking. After shutting his friend down, the Apollo spawn added an interesting point - Raven was challenging a child of Nike, so even if he somehow managed to pull off a victory, he wasn't going to see the end of it, ever. Lyra took an another glance at the battle and noted:

"Yeah, I can certainly see it..." The way how the blonde-girl acted, the energy she put into every single swing, especially compared to Raven's far more timid battle stance, all proved Troy's point on the field. Not that it would dissuade Lyra from taking her opponent down were she in Raven's skin right now. Who would not want to win in a battle? Maybe weirdos who enjoy getting pummeled, but aside for them...

An another demigod approached the trio, one with pitch black hair, and immediately spoke to Lyra, something about playing with her food. The blue-haired woman offered a glance to her and immediately connected the dots.

"Psychological warfare. Keep your opponent busy going after some abstract concept of pride instead of focusing," she stated and turned back to the battle. "Works on humans, works on monsters."

The fight between Raven and Danica devolved to a point where neither of them were even using their weapons, and just slammed into one another, until Raven, for some reason, called it quits. Not only was it a loud desperate tone Lyra hadn't seen from him before, but the entire situation was just... baffling to her. Grapples and slams to the ground were troubling to deal with, sure, but not to a point where a tackle as sloppy as that would be a finishing move. The girl didn't even have a weapon with her anymore, anyway, all you need to do is shove her to the side...

Maybe it's the lack of experience, or having your opponent step on the end of his spear might have sowed more panic than it should. But still...

"If you want to see someone who really is not putting in all of the effort they could, well..." Lyra spoke up and pointed her thumb at the intimate scene, then stepped off the fence and stood right next to the exit from the arena, awaiting for the two sparring partners to depart before she can start chastising.

Upon hearing Raven's surrender, Dani quockly moved back to her feet. Grinning wildly, she held her hand to help the embarrassed boy up. "It's alright, everyone loses sometimes. Well, mostly everyone. There's no need to blushover it. Hell, you should be happy. If you didnt surrender I was going to go for your groin."

Once he was eventually on his feet, she waved to the onlookers. "Troy, Lyra, Talia, creepy guy who's name I keep forgetting! Wanna come over to my dorm? I have Mario Party~."

Without waiting for an amswer, she grabbed Raven by the wrist and tried to lead him with her. In her defense, she hadfully forgotten about her promise earlier. Besides, she liked running ideas through him. "So, Rover, think I could get a Hephaestus or Athena kid to put a button in my shield to remove the strap? That way I can throw it, Captain America style. Better than losing my sword or spear or whatever weapon."

Before Lyra could start chastising Raven on everything that was wrong with his fighting stance, strategy, and just an overall approach to battle, Danica spoke first, calling out to her and the demigods around her to offer them to come to her dorm and play Mario Party - alongside Raven, whom she was already dragging around by the wrist.

"Wait, wait, wait!" Lyra suddenly called out. She shoved her shield and training spear to the side, clenching onto the fence and leaning forward over it. "Our literature club gathers today, don't you know? And you need to be there, Raven, I'm pretty sure we put at least four books on schedule to be discussed today."

She offered a brief glance to Danica, and then Troy and Talia. "So, you know, maybe another time."

The sound of a familiar voice forced an involuntary shiver to run up and down Troy's body as his gaze was directed back to the source. Looks like the fun's over, he thought to himself with a grimace as he returned his gaze back towards the duel. He initially ignored Talia's comment, but upon hearing Lyra's response, he couldn't help but look over out of the corner of his eye towards her with a growing sense of concern. Things were exasperated when he felt an elbow digging into his ribs, causing him to turn his head over towards Ashton, who rapidly raised and lowered his eyebrows suggestively. Troy simply rolled his eyes at the immature action, fighting the urge to give his friend the middle finger as he returned his attention back to the duel.

In a surprising turn of events, Raven suddenly surrendered to the child of Nike as he found himself in an awkward position with Dani straddling over him. Troy couldn't help but let out a small chuckle at the almost naïve response the guy seemed to have, knowing that he wouldn't have had quite the same reaction if he'd been in the same predicament. Still, the match was officially over as the two got up from the accidentally intimate situation, with the winner jumping to her feet grinning ear to ear, no doubt feeling smug over her victory.

Much to the surprise of Troy, Dani practically dragged her freshly beaten opponent with her towards where Troy and the rest of them were, not skipping a single beat as she invited them over to play Mario Party at her place. Lyra was quick to dismiss her offer, however, throwing out an excuse of needing to go to the literature club or something of that nature. Troy raised a small eyebrow, unsure of whether or not this excuse was actually legitimate or not, but decided not to press the matter as he glanced back to Ashton, who held a thousand yard stare on his face as Dani's words seemed to sink in.

"Er, I mean me and Ashton were planning on going out to the bars tonight..." Troy began to say, before he saw the disappointment lighting up in Dani's eyes. Shit, Troy thought as he began to awkwardly rub at the back of his head. Looking back over to Ashton, he saw his friend was still contemplating his life's existence, meaning Troy was on his own in this decision making process. After a brief pause, he let out a small defeated sigh as he turned his gaze back to where Dani was. "...but a game or two probably wouldn't hurt."

Turning his gaze over to where Talia was, Troy couldn't help but send a small jab towards her as payback for her earlier comment. "Although some of us here might think playing video games is a waste of brain power," he said, pointing his thumb towards where the child of Athena was while holding his hand up to mockingly pretend that he was trying to keep her from overhearing.

It was grueling and almost cruel, the letters and numbers just somehow made sense to other people but to Olympia, it was just too advanced to wrap her head around. Thankfully, this was her last math credit for graduation and needed it desperately, but that thought just added more pressure to the young adult. Taking a quick glance outside, she sighed heavily as the training grounds were still alive with sparring partners she was just itching to slam into the canvas. Jumping her foot up and down, she stared hard at the paper in front of her and tapped the tip of her pen on the sheet as she tried once more to follow through the order of operations.

It took some time and some careful googling, but the dmeigoddess managed to finish her work and call it good for the day, briskly walking the walls and down the stairs to the ground floor as she made a beeline for the training grounds. She became quickly disheartened, though, as it seemed the crowds were dispersing for the day in order to do other activities with the daylight remaining. Pankration practice wasn't for another two hours, and she wanted to get there warmed up and ready to go, and training on her own was always a bit dull and awkward.

She circled around the training grounds for a moment with her book bag half hanging on her shoulder, spotting some familiar faces all together in a group, "Hey!" She shouted abruptly, walking toward the circle of friends she often collaborated with, "We still doing some sparring or is something else fun going on?" Olympia continued, injecting herself in the conversation and giving everyone a warm smile, unaware of the Mario Kart invitation, bar plans, or other rival ideas floating around. With a smirk, she ended with, "Allow me to leech in on the good vibes, if you don't mind."

It was another boring day of classes for Anders which meant he could probably head to some cafe and mooch on their wifi. Homework could wait for later or maybe the next day. A lot of it had deadlines weeks from now anyways. Upon exiting the main building where his classes that day where he thought what way to get to his next destination could suit him. There was the usual path back to his dorms where he could drop his stuff off and then to the cafe. However, it was usually busy and he really wanted to avoid any distractions. He was mentally dog tired and just wanted to unwind for an hour or two...or three...especially after that one professor's lecture on the French and Indian War that somehow made it boring as watching paint dry. The alternative route was through the sports fields which he was pretty sure where a short cut.

"Well a short cut's a short cut," said Anders to no one specifically.

He nonchalantly made his way to a dirt road outlining some of the fields where a group of students seemed to playing soccer. He continued to walk along the road unaware that one particular spawn of ares had gotten fed up with being overshadowed that practice session which lead to them kicking their ball in frustration way out of field and like a catapult's rock it crashed right into Ander's cheek. He unceremoniously fell to the floor which left it prime opportunity for anyone to check on him.

As soon as his opponent had gotten off of him, Raven sat up, still indignantly holding his arms in front of his chest. Ignoring the blonde's words - she had misinterpreted his surrender, much like he was expecting, though in all honesty he preferred this. If she had correctly guessed what was up with him... that'd just embarrass him further. Either way, he hesitated to take her hand, but eventually relented and accepted the help in getting back to his feet.

As he stood up and removed his training gear, the daughter of Nike surprised him yet again by walking up to a nearby group and promptly inviting them to her dorm to play videogames. As he took off the last piece of equipment, his eyes scanned the faces among the group. Two of them were quite familiar, but... not in a good way. Troy and his buddy were not people he enjoyed being near for any length of time. The girl next to them wasn't someone he knew, though he vaguely recalled hearing that she was a daughter of Athena. Lyra was a more welcome sight. They weren't quite close, but they were friendly acquaintances as far as he was concerned - they'd have to be in order to run a club together after all.

Speaking of which, don't we have sessions on Fridays?

His train of thought was quickly derailed as Danica began trying to drag him along. "Hey! Didn't I get to pick where to next?" Raven quickly protested, not as quick to forget as the blonde girl. Her words seemed to drown out his complaints however, and he begrudgingly allowed himself to be led away, not unhappy with her touch. "And just get a spare spear or something." He added afterwards to reply to her question, albeit with little interest.

Before anything else could be said, Lyra's voice interrupted the group as the girl confirmed that, indeed, Fridays were literature club days. Ah, that's right. And I can't just ditch the club I'm the vice-president of. Now how to put it in terms she can understand...

"Lyra's right, you know." The young man spoke as he quickened his pace to keep up with Danica's, while gently pulling his wrist away from her hand. "I have an appointment with the rest of the literature club, and I can't win at being a responsible person if I just ditch it, so we'll have to play games later." He stated, only to continue after sparing a glance at Troy. "Looks like you'll have other people to play with anyways."

By now it seemed that, following Danica's momentum, the group had managed to wander to the entrance of the enclosure that was the training area, where they were joined by yet another newcomer, one that Raven was quite close with.

"Olympia!" The son of Hecate greeted her cheerfully, moving in to give the redhead a quick hug. He had little qualms about showing affection to the girl that was undoubtedly his closest friend. "I actually have to head to the club, but I can come by after your practice if you want." He said, smiling brightly.

Talia shrugged at Lyra’s response. “Fair enough, still doesn’t seem wise to give your opponent a chance to get lucky.” Turning back to the fight between Danica and Raven, Talia could only shake her head as the horribly outmatched Raven was finally put out of his misery. Talia had no idea what Dani saw in that boy, other than him being cute in a “lost puppy dog” sort of way. The daughter of Nike then dragged Raven over to Talia and the others looking to invite everyone over to her place for a game of Mario Party. Talia was about to decline when Troy threw a shot across her bow. “Actual video games are a good exercise for hand eye coordination. I’d love to just-“

“Hey, Bitch!” She heard one of the Ares kids shout from behind her, having finally pieced together her insult.

“Have to take care of something. Won’t be more than a minute.” She finished, turning around to see the guy that had just been handed his rear end by Lyra storming over to her.

Dani slowly felt downhearted as her plans were shot down mercilessly and with logic. However, between her own words brought to light by Raven and the arrival of Olympia, she came up with a plan. First, though, she needed to stop someone else she considered a friend from wasting their time.

"Talia, beating on people who are already licking their wounds is pointless. If you want to kick a puppy Raven is right there, and he seems to love being abused."

With that said, Dani turned to her new target and made an announcement. "You know, Lyra, you're totally right. And as Raven said, it's his turn to choose what's next, so I guess..."

Dani narrowed her eyes in challenge and her mouth formed a thin, sly smile. "I'll just have to join you two today." Leaning in, Dani quietly said "Besides...I don't know why you are trying to compete for time with him, but I will accept any challenge. Besides, we're missing the main contestant."

Pulling away slowly, she returned to a large smile. "Olympia! Won't you join us before your practice? While they are doing boring meeting stuff and read their book, I can help you with homework. And after they are done..." Giving the daughter of Helios a small wink, Dani continued. "Maybe Raven can help you too." So maybe she was a fan of the childhood friend trope. It was, in her eyes, cute. Besides, with how dreadfully oblivious Raven seemed to be, not even being able to tell when someone had a crush on him, Olympia could use all the help she could get.

The gang was getting together. Troy and Ashton changed their minds on going out to drink all by themselves and decided to tag along with the rest of the party, Olympia appeared out of nowhere and decided to join in moments before suddenly getting pulled into a hug by Raven. Talia got into a verbal scuffle with Ashton and appeared ready to join as well, before getting thrown from one conflict to another, this time by getting picked on the same child of Ares who had foolishly challenged Lyra earlier. Finally, Danica decided to drop her idea, for now, in order to tag along with Lyra and Raven as well - all while insinuating that Lyra had a different reason for suddenly bringing it up.

The blue-haired woman shot a glare back at her, and spoke:

"...what? I'm not... competing with anyone. You're the one who found a competition here somehow."

Leave it to a child of Nike to find conflict in the most meaningless things... It's... just bureaucracy. I wouldn't ask Raven out for anything if he wasn't my vice-president.

Lyra turned towards Talia next, as the child of Athena was making her way towards the Ares spawn. As mythologically fitting as a fight between the two of them would be, it's just going to turn into a chore. Especially if they want to do anything together as a group in any reasonable timeframe. "Talia. Just... Don't play with your food."

Making her way to the scene between Olympia and Raven, she reached up to grab the latter by his upper arm as soon as he pulled back after their hug, in order to drag him along with her.

"We're not going to get anywhere at this rate."

With situation rapidly evolving from a simple invitation to play video games into what seemed to be all-out romantic warfare, Troy and Ashton were left simply to stare at one another in confusion.

"Book club? Yeesh, count me out on anything involving that. There's only one kind of literature I read, and that's the kind of stuff you find in the back aisles of gas stations," Ashton replied, nudging Troy in the ribs with an obnoxious smirk on his face. Troy could only roll his eyes at the antics of his crude friend, shrugging his shoulders as he waited for a lull in the ongoing verbal warfare between the girls present. His gaze briefly lingered over to where Raven was, eyeing him with a mixture of curiosity and confusion.

"What the hell is this guy's deal that makes him so popular? Sure as hell didn't seem like that back in high school," Troy muttered under his breath as he shook his head, deciding not to dwell on the subject. Glancing over at the others, who seemed to be momentarily paused in their conversation, Troy decided to speak up about what his plans, and by default Ashton's, were.

"If that's the case, call us and Ashton out. However," Troy paused, looking over to a confused Ashton who was unaware of what his friend's intentions were. "If you guys are interested, I've got a buddy throwing a house party tonight over at his place. It's technically an invite only, but he won't mind." Turning his attention over to Raven, a small smirk appeared on his face, something that could either be seen as friendly or threatening depending on how one looked at it. "There's going to be plenty of girls there, so it might be a fun time for you based on how things are going already. I'll text Dani the address later, if you guys get bored reading books."

Walking past the group with Ashton quickly following behind, Troy gave the group a small wave of his hand in a farewell salute. "Hope to see you all there," he spoke out loud enough so that they could still hear him as the two parted ways. As the two exited the training area and made their way over towards the parking lot, Troy felt a hand grasp onto his shoulder as a very irritated Ashton glared at him.

"Why the hell did you do that? Do you not understand the 'Invite Only' aspect of Mark's party?" Ashton practically yelled at him. In response, Troy merely shrugged.

"I invited them, didn't I?"

Ashton didn't seem convinced with the excuse, however, as he let out a groan and shook his head. "No, you idiot. As in 'Invite Only, But People Mark Would Want Over', kind of invite only." Running his hands through his thick hair nervously, Ashton's head drooped down as he stared at the concrete below. "Mark's parties are things of legend, and now you're going to take that from us when he realizes you invited them to his place," he continued in a defeated sounding voice.

Reaching out and patting his friend on the shoulder, Troy gave a reassuring smile to the panicking Ashton. "Don't worry, I'll make sure that doesn't happen. Besides," Troy said, this time being the one to give a nudging elbow to his friend, "what's the worst that could happen?"

Rebecca
While she had hoped that soccer practice would have taken her mind off things and served as a needed relief from her stressful day, things were clearly not going as planned for Rebecca. She been struggling during most of their drills and she finally reached the point where she punted a ball in frustration. The ball went flying down a hill and out of sight. Rebecca sighed and slowly trotted after it, ignoring the snickering of a few of her teammates behind her. As she got closer to her punted ball she realized she had actually hit someone with it, who was now on the ground because of it. Embarrassed and concerned, she rushed over to them.

"Hey, are you okay?" She asked, offering the man a hand to get off the ground. "Sorry about that, I didn't mean to hit anyone with that ball, I really hope you're not hurt." She told him, feeling guilty about her childish display. She didn't know the man who she had hit, but he seemed vaguely familiar enough that she had probably seen him around campus.

Jack Mercier
Therm U Athletic Field

Jack started down the street after just getting off work. It had been a long week, but it was finally time to unwind for a few days. He had his bag of tools sitting in the backseat behind him, and let out a sigh of relief as he rolled down the windows and let his worries fly away behind him. Work hadn't been hard today, actually quite the opposite. It was excruciatingly boring. It's not every day that someone locks themselves out of their house or car, or needs any other sort of clockwork done. So Jack spent the majority of the day sitting behind the counter at the storefront and waiting for something, anything to happen.

"Gods, at this point just give me anything!" Jack complained loudly, as he pulled into the parking lot at the University's sports fields and climbed out of his car. He slammed the door shut just in time with the thud of his good friend Anders hitting the ground. Jack turned to watch a red-haired girl in a soccer uniform race to recover her ball and check out the fallen demigod. The disembarked demigod started laughing at his friend on the ground, in a friendly sort-of-way as he approached to see how he was doing as well.

"Wow Anders, I know you aren't very into sports but I've never seen them retaliate before." Jack mused aloud as he joined the pair, offering him a hand just as Rebecca did. "How are you, my friend?"
