Eastern Andean Region
Pedro almost couldn’t believe it, he saw the election results come on screen one by one, and while he didn’t win the majority in most districts, he won the plurality, and the plurality was what mattered. Just a few months ago, the man was an insignificant politician who was viewed as a crazy inexperienced kid by most, and now, he was the front-runner to become President of his own country. It was almost surreal.

His wife, Julia, walked out onto the stage with a bright smile on her face, waving to the enthusiastic crowd.

"Thank you all for this night, it is truly wonderful! And now, may I introduce you the best husband a woman could possibly have, and the next president of El Cargotá, Pedro Tejedor!"

Almost no sound was audible over the ear-exploding cheer of the crowd, as Pedro Tejedor walked onto the stage waving to all of his supporters, with a bright smile on his face.

"Thank you citizens of El Cargotá!" The cheering was almost deafening

"Today, is the beginning of massive change in our nation! It is time we reclaim our nation from socialism and authoritarianism, and restore democracy to the nation I hold dearly to my heart! Our movement has beaten candidates who outspent us by millions! All thanks to the energy of you! I could not be more humbled by your choice, and I am honored to be the front runner in the primaries. But our fight is not over yet, far from it. 190 districts are still left, we must keep this momentum going all the way to election day!

And, President Tafalla, I know you’re sitting there in Casa del Soberano counting checks from Xi Jinping, but just hear this… today is the beginning of the end of your regime! The people of El Cargotá are tired of your authoritarianism, it’s time we reclaim our nation!"

He walked off to the chanting of the crowd, ready to head to La Cezon for the next primary campaigns

Sainz post result rally, Bartago

"It is because of you, the people that brought us the victory of the districts and brought us close to winning more." shouted Sainz, feeling a new boost of confidence and energy through his veins as the victories and close calls allowed him to be seen as a major contender. And to think he was told to drop out by some rich knob who knew less politics than he did. That's most likely for certain, if anything Sainz is the forward hope for the Liberal Party, the bridge towards salvation and victory, one that the Nationalists rejected but something they would suffer as a result of. "We can keep this campaign going! But I have only spoken promises and very little due to the lack of questions at the debate and my paper not giving enough at times, sometimes it cannot tell the full truth. But I can."

"Tell me, people of Bartago. Who are the most important within our society?" Many stand in confusion, not knowing a clear answer. Some answer with "the workers!" or "The indigenous" or "Those that vote with Sainz" which gave the candidate a chuckle, "Well, you're all almost right. The most important people are all of us, without a single gear in motion we as a nation will fail. But if you work the machine too much, it wears down and breaks apart. Which is what the ruling Coalition wishes to do, what we offer is that we allow the machine to rest and make choices of its own. But...It's the Coalition that talks about us being the machines, we're not machines. We're people. We are the mechanics, the engineers, the builders and the programmers. We fix the machine, we repair the machine, we oil and program the machine. We are the ones with the tools in our hands to make changes, if there is something wrong with the machine we must change it to make it run better! Only through my unity can we get all to make our great nation restored!

"The Government Coalition wishes to force us to join the Russian Warmongering Giant and the Chinese Debt Trapper! But we don't wish to have the United States and the West as our enemies, I'm not speaking of being their puppets or being lap dogs, I speak of balance between the west and the east at least! If we support Dictatorships such as Venezuela, are we not accepting it to happen to us as well! We would become what we feared back then, a Junta of elite who would destroy our freedoms and make all daily points of life political. Our Unions are being used as the means of their end, we cannot allow that! The Unions are used to destroy our nation, when they are meant to build up the common man! Thus I help the people by setting up the Support the Worker Foundation, which all purchases of my paper support the common worker until we can truly change the laws! We succeed through our kindness and our unity of the people! Our unity of freedom and liberty!

"We must not break away, we must stay united, we must not be divisive but decisive. The only ones who tolerate our opposition are the nationalists and aren't they too the people of Cargota?" They shouted yes, "Yet, the Government Coalition do not support unity of the people, but of the few. The Government elite and disunity of our nation. The President has not taken action against the violence against both the indigenous or the refugees. We cannot favor one side when both do wrong, but we cannot wrong both without understanding why. The people of Venezuela are trying to flee from a Dictatorship and the Indigenous are trying to regain the equality they deserve, but if we become a Dictatorship both will lose the freedoms they died for. We cannot allow such contempt or indifference. For we are the people of this nation and we demand our freedoms and our right to choose our leaders against the will of the Authoritarian President who wishes to take them away!" The crowd yelled in support.

"Now, we must keep our campaign going! For we are the One Voice!" The crowd shouted that they too were the One Voice, "So it is our duty to protect! Our One Nation!" They shouted this in return as well, "So go out there and support my cause! Not just in donations but in your time as well, volunteer to hand out my papers and to spread my message across this country! For we are the reason in this nation, without it we will simply replace one Authoritarian man with another!" With that the crowd cheered as Sainz slowly walked down the platform to his car, shaking the hands of those that promise to vote for him, touched by how much of a difference he is truly making. But this also makes him question his own morality, for was it really right for him to sell poison to these people? The drugs as part of the cartels, was it really necessary? He did it to spite the Government, but with the major victory behind him he felt the sins slowly dawn on him, for he was too deep in with the Cartels to pull out. "I'm stuck...But I must keep going.."

When he got into the car, he was handed a message from the driver, another from Kalinsky demanding he meet with him, he called while he was on stage. So he ordered the driver to go on then, to Kalinsky he would go. Now with new confidence and power behind his voice, he was guessing Kalinsky was scared. Scared that the person he asked for him to endorse wasn't as popular as he was in this system. With a smirk he felt the jolt as the car moved forward, "Things are getting interesting."

Jose Verdads Rally For Tejedor in La Cezon:

Jose Verdad walks up on stage and begins his speech in support of Pedro Tejedor.

"I have known my friend Pedro since he first joined us in the Assembly, he has been firmly steadfast ally in the fight against corruption, crime, the elites and the socialist agenda of the PDP and their associates. We have fought many fights together and will continue to fight for the people of this country and the liberty we all hold dear to our hearts. No man like Tafalla should have that much power, when my friend takes that office he will push for limits on the power of the executive, because that power belongs to all of you, the people of this great nation. It is a time for change, a time where the lives and freedoms of the people are not pieces on a chessboard for the political elites to play with as they wish. It is a time for a new leader, a time for honesty, a time for the end of cartels, a time for the end of the political elite and a time for all the people of this land to live freely. It is with sincere love for this nation, that I have put my faith in my friend Pedro to serve this great nation as President because I believe in him, I believe in his mission, I believe in the change we so desperately need in this nation. We have already seen our friends in Venezuela go down the path of socialism, the path of failure, corruption, starvation, political elites, death and a erasure of the freedoms we all hold dear. We shall not listen to the false song of socialism no more, we shall not listen to the false song of the political elites, we shall listen to the people and secure the song of liberty for this country once again. That is why I have endorsed Pedro Tejedor, and I call on all lovers of liberty to vote for him in these primaries so that he can defeat Tafalla. For the People, For Liberty!"

Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

Postby Sao Nova Europa » Sun Mar 29, 2020 10:17 am

Juan Carlos Sánchez spoke to a hall in Bartago filled with about two hundrend people. It was an event organized by the 'Institute for Social Democracy', Juan's own lobby group: 'Social Democracy and the challenges of the Future'. Speakers would talk about how the center-left should respond to global inequalities, the negative effects of economic globalization and automation and climate change. Juan was one the speakers and he was greeted to thundering applause by the crowd.

Image

"Thank you! Thank you! Our country has moved forward a lot since 2008. Under the neoliberal establishment governments of the past, the rich grew richer while the average Cargotans suffered, being crushed by draconian austerity policies meant to enrich the corporate buddies of the Liberals. Then the change came! In 2008, Mr. Tafalla became President and in his twelve years of office implemented an ambitious agenda of sweeping social reforms. Healthcare, education and welfare became available to all citizens. Exploitative multinational corporations that violated workers' rights legislation were booted out of the country. El Cargota became once again prosperous, proud and independent!"

"However, we shouldn't fall into the trap of thinking that our job is done and that now we should simply sit back. No! We need to become ever more ambitious and to implement more structural reforms. The world is changing and the center-left must deal with new challenges; automation, globalization, climate change, increasing global inequality. We cannot turn a blind eye to those changes unfolding before us. We need to come up with a reformist, progressive agenda. Otherwise, the far right will take up the mantle of change. We simply cannot allow that to happen."

"On climate change, we need to be far more ambitious. We need to introduce a flat carbon tax on corporations and to commit to El Cargota becoming carbon neutral by 2030. To combat inequalities, we need to make use of new tools, such as introducing a Universal Basic Income so that all Cargotans can have a steady source of income. We also need to do more for disadvantaged regions, creating a new Public Investments Fund that will fund extensive infrastructure spending in regions lagging behind. We need to offer free job training to our young people, especially for jobs such as coding. We need to prepare them for the new digital economy."

"The PDP needs to be at the forefront of change and innovation. We cannot afford to become an establishment force. Having been in government for so long, I fear we may be in danger of becoming stale, of being unable to produce new ideas and policies. I believe we can avoid this fate, and that is why I founded the 'Institute for Social Democracy'. To come up with new, innovative ideas with which we can further a popular, progressive agenda. Your ideas are needed!"

Primos Residence-Caitado, El Cargota
Image
Aden Primo smiled reading the newspaper. An ass-wipe had won the debate, possibly the nomination. Glad to be done with this whole mess though when its all over. He sipped his coffee and shook his head. Let them splinter each other apart as they willed. He would take the glory of allowing this chaos to unfold. He heard the music getting higher beneath him. He looked back behind him as the double doors swung aside and his wife stepped into the room clipping her earrings onto her elegant ears. She smiled at him, "Let's go make the children happy." She offered her arm which he perfect slipped into. Two servants opened the grand doors to the upper balcony to look down at the party going on in the ground floor of their home. Below them, servants in bright white suits and masks covering their faces waved in between the clumps of elegantly dressed people. Music soared all around them. Primo smiled down on the crowd and rose his glass to his lips. American champaign had been imported for this party. French champaign was flowing through the fountains outside. Primo was hosting the party of the century. And he wanted the powerful in Bargota to remember it. He looked around the upper floor where soldiers in the black uniforms of the Primos stood around at attention. Rifles at their feet with white caps over the tip of the barrel. They were beautiful. His private guards. Elena lead her husband down the grand stairs slowly so all could see them. Elena waved and nodded to the on-lookers. Primo did the same. Two soldiers in black sleek uniforms meet them at the bottom. Two more were behind. Guns slung over their shoulders.
Image

"Sir, the men are stationed outside at your pleasure," The commander of the guard reported at a whisper to Primo. Primo nodded and then leaned and kissed his wife. Primo slid away into an adjoining room. The four guards took a position on the outside and closed the door. Primo smiled at the men surrounding him. Officers of the El Cargotan army. Particularly, leaders of the 2nd Army. "Gentleman, to the republic!" They all nodded. A map sat in the center of the room. Chess pieces littered the map marking positions. White were fewer than red. The red were pro-government forces. White being his own. The King piece was in Caitado with a couple of pawns. The heart of this operation. Primos son, Zander, stood at one end of the table and nodded to his father. Primo pointed to Bargota, "What is happening there?" Zander put his own piece onto the table, "The 5th Jungle regiment has been transferred to the capital." Primo nodded, "We have three-hundred new recruits and are recruiting more. We will take the side roads to Borgota, recruiting along the way. The official military forces will use the main highway or rail junctions to show normal operations." Primo nodded again. "Long live the Republic gentleman." Primo then exited as the officers and officials departed through the side door.

Fireworks exploded outside as Primo rejoined the crowd. The crowd surged out to the fanfare of a live band. Before the crowd growing on the porch stood soldiers clad in black. Riot equipment on. Rifles slung over shoulders. A white dove painted on their helmets. The fireworks highlighted their outline. Recruits were impressive in uniform. But still had a lot of work to go. A lot more training. He finished his letter and sent it on to the President and the Premier. Then he handed a copy of the letter being sent to the President to be sent to every member of the government and to the nation.

To: Office of the President of El Cargota
From: Office of the Minority Leadership, Aden Primo
Sir, In times such as these that we have found that the Republic being shaken by the corrupt government now formed in the heart of this country. I lay the responsibility of this failure on your person to the extent that your rule has lead to its great tarnishing. I present my registration as Leader of the Minority Opposition to your office. Not out of love or respect. But for the honor your office holds. Your title was the absolute power of the country. And your corruption of it can no longer be tolerated. Rather serve my people in Caitado than be apart of this government a moment longer.
Aden Primo, White Dove of Caitado

To: Office of the Premier of the National Assembly[/i
[i]Sir,
I formally resign my position as Leader of the Oppostition and resign my chair in the National Assembly.
Aden Primo.

Soon we won't need to elect a Minority Leader, for we will become the Majority. We will stand united against the Government Coalition and claim the Majority that we deserve, to restore the people's freedom to the political process and to restore economic responsibility from the currently ineffective hands of the government back to the people. As it is their God given right to do so. #OneVoiceTogether

"This one looks nice, I think we did a better job with this one."

"They're questions people need to hear, healthcare and law enforcement are hard topics to cover but I believe you've done a great job. I think it connects to the main stream liberals and to the general public." Carlos smiled, though Sainz leaned back in the leather chair he bought himself last week. His energy pulsing through him."

"Any word from Kalinsky yet?"

"No, Mr. Sainz. He has not made contact after the results, why do you ask?"

"No reason, I just hope he's doing well after telling me to drop out only for me to get the votes his candidate was supposed to get. I am honestly the best bet for the Liberal Party now, more so than ever.We need unity, not radicals. I simply need to keep my momentum and I'll win the elections, that's for certain. No one can take away that ability from me now." The confidence bleed out and a smile grows on Sainz's face, it truly felt good to be alive.

"Speak of the devil, I swear you say anything it could happen. Especially an endorsement...but do I wish to have it?"

Julian Carlos looked at the message, thinking for a moment, "Well, lets think of this from a political point of view. If we receive his endorsement we also most likely keep our investments in this company. But we risk getting called a corporate puppet and alienating our voter base who sees you as a mainstream liberal, the polls do not lie. But this could also harm your chances of obtaining votes from those who lean certain ways. Especially the center-left liberals who could help swing votes from the Government Coalition to your side. Accepting this endorsement publicly, it could ruin our chances of being elected, the people see you as someone close to the ground to them. Someone who understands them."

Sainz was impressed by how much Carlos knew, but as an editor he guessed that Carlos would need to learn these things from other newspapers, "So what do you propose to do?"

"We cannot accept the endorsement, but we cannot reject it since it would harm our campaign. Perhaps if our company was larger and had a larger reader base, we could be more independent. But I think, if we simply stall for time, we can get it to grow and we get the votes prepared before Kalinskly knows a thing which could harm the campaign. We'd have it in the bag."

"You're right...I'm going to be busy, so a simple excuse is the best one."

Apologies but I have my schedule booked for the upcoming times, due to the recent elections the toll upon my time has been taken and the need to do these actions require that time. When I am next available to meet you, I will send you a message or a call that will let you know that I am no longer burdened with time consuming work.

I would like to meet with you as soon as possible, perhaps consider changing my endorsement to you.

Kalinsky growled upon receiving the email, seeing the nuclear option as the only option. He began to meet with the elites of the Liberal Party, one by one, hoping to get as much funding and as much internal party support as possible. He needed their support and their money to really make a splash in this race, just before he entered.

"Thank you." She sat down, "do you want me to just cut to the chase with this?"
