Palace of Memory-The Kingdom of Athena
"As the will of King Daemon proclaims, to succeed the throne of Athena, is his daughter, Laurena Prior, the White Dove of Leah, Queen of Athena! Gods save the Queen! Gods protect the Kingdom!" The High Priest backed away from the kneeling Queen, clad in white silks, covering her silver polished armour. She rose slowly. The Crown of Athena resting on her head. It weighed heavy. The gold ban rich with the studded stones of her forbears. Seven generations of Priors had warn the crown. Back to the founding of Athena. The five Kingdoms lived in peace under the Priors united throne. The four great Kingdoms that surrounded Athena were now humbled duchies. Brought low and forced to bow to the power of Athena. But no woman had ever sat this throne. She looked up to it. She slowly walked up the stone steps. Her white dress trailing behind her as she rose up the steps. Her court stood looking up at her. She turned and slowly sat down on the throne. Her hands sliding along the arms till they rested at the ends. Laurena nodded her head to the priest who bowed before her. She smiled and rose once more, "I, Queen Laurena Prior, the White Dove of Athena, Queen of Athena, do swear to uphold the laws of Athena and promise to uphold the traditions passed down to me from my father. As the five Kingdoms before, together we shall remain." The court cheered. Some in happiness at the rise of the new Queen. Others cheered just to keep appearences. Other remained silent. No Queen had sat the throne of Athena. No man had dared to leave it to his daughter. Daemon had thrown out tradition. Now the Kingdom would bleed. The four other Kingdoms still held ancient traditions. No Queen had ruled them. None would ever rule them.
The world of Athena is a dangerous place. A young untested Queen now sits the throne of Athena. Safe behind her mountain ranges. Then the Ancient River wrapping a ring around the capital city. A large natural moat. Four great houses stand as the other rulers of the four other Kingdoms. Will they bow to Queen Laurena? Or overthrow her and place a new monarch on the throne. Or one of her male cousins? Take up your place! Save or rule Athena? The choice is yours! Be a minor house of the great Kingdoms? Or rule a Great house? Where will your house go?
