Hey Hoosier, two things. First is that you’re actually supposed to be on the right according to the starting positions with the rest of 1st Company. And second you don’t have MG-42s, those aren’t until next in game year. You have MG-34s instead.

Apologies. I must have read “platoon” instead of company. I will change both when I get a chance

Fixed my errors. Apologies once more for my poor abilities to read your map, lol. I'll just blame it on a late night at work.

Image
Personality: “Eddy” is an overly-ambitious and harsh infantry platoon leader. His aristocratic background and elitist tendencies, as well as rigorous drills, makes him one of the most disliked platoon leaders in 2nd battalion. His platoon, however, is in great shape and the men, partly due to their tough training, are remarkably fit. Von Scharnsdorf is also an avid national socialist, mostly due to the strict and politically tainted education his father gave him. He’s been a member of the NSDAP for more than four years, and he spent most of his life in the Hitlerjugend. Eduard doesn’t smoke, and tries to greatly reduce the number of cigarettes his troops receive, for he knows that smoking is bad for one’s body, and he strongly related to nazi propaganda. He’s an asshole through and through, but he knows that this war will need the least compassionate the most, and the more his troops sweat on the assault course, the more they curse at him if he doesn’t look, the less they’ll bleed on the battlefield, and the fewer of them will have to scream and cry for their mothers after being shot. In contrast to the other men in his unit, Eddy has little to no real affection for his men. His ultimate goals are to be succesful, extend his career and honour his home country. The troopers are but pawns, who can be thankful that capable officers like himself are playing the game that is warfare, for one needs good players in order to lose as few pawns as possible, and to win the game sooner rather than later.

History: Eduard Egon von Scharnsdorf was born to the aristocratic von Scharnsdorf family in the city of Jena, Thuringia, on the 23rd of January 1919. His father Egon von Scharnsdorf, an aristocrat and ex-officer with the 1. Ulanen-Regiment Nr.17 (Sächs.), had been a cavalry commander, and developed a form of shell shock after fighting the Russians on the eastern frontier. He returned to his home after the Brest-Litovsk ceasefire, and his wife bore him his second son, Eduard. In the political turmoil that engulfed Germany after the war, Egon lead a Freikorps detachment, and defended Jena from bolshevik incursions. He was a conservative monarchist then, but his political ideology would shift with the rise of nazism. Eduard grew up in his family manor, far away from all the political violence and ideological clashes that occured in the cities. He never really understood what his father did until he was taught to respect and appreciate him for it. His early childhood years were unremarkable. His mother was a compassionate, loving woman, and his father was strict. In his early teenage years, he felt obliged to join the army like his father did, and honour his fatherland. Eduard was already getting indoctrinated then, and he was often exposed to national socialist propaganda. His father, who was radicalized to the nazi cause, encouraged his son to do the same. Eduard joined the Hitler youth at age 8, and participated in party rallies. He was taught military and leadership skills at the HJ, skills that would stick by him all these years. Then, at the age of seventeen, he joined the NSDAP, and applied to join the army as an officer cadet, a Fähnrich. Due to his father’s connections in the party and his aristocratic background, Eduard was quickly accepted, and attended a military academy at Weimar, the Wehrkreis capital.

He was eighteen and a half when the 71st marched on Poland. He lead his squad well, and though he lost some men in forest skirmishes between Radom and , he achieved his tasks. Eduard is not a sentimentalist, and feels that there is enough time to mourn the dead once the war is over. After several battles around Radom and Warsaw’s southern flanks the platoon celebrated the capitulation of the Polish forces. Von Scharnsdorf, together with the rest of the division, was reassigned to the 16th army, and, with their modern motorized equipment, rushed through Wallonia to cut the English off. His division was part of the reserve troops during the battle of Dunkirk, and Von Scharnsdorf’s regiment remained in France as an occupation force. He spent about a year in Burgundy, where he learnt to speak French conversationally. His regiment was brought over to Bialystok, and started to prepare for operation Barbarossa there. Now, Eduard and his troops are pushing into soviet territory, in a violent struggle against time, trying to gain as much land in the shortest time as humanly possible.

Apologies for not responding sooner, I’ll admit I had to really weigh my choice here because of your equipment. It’s a lot of non-standard equipment and I’m trying to keep us relatively standardized for the RP. However, the amount of detail you went into, and the quality of your previous posts has earned you an exception to the rule. As such, ACCEPTED, welcome to the battle.

Fantastic! I'll post something soon.

Two questions: Could we maybe add names for the NPC company commanders, and is it okay if I add two light Granatwerfer 34 mortars to my platoon? They were distributed on a platoon level, and operated with the zugtrupp as far as I know.

Alright, with most everyone (or I think it is everyone) posted I’ll get a post up either tonight after work or tomorrow afternoon after my day shift because I can’t have a steady shift for my 40 hour weeks :P

The post will detail the opening Soviet moves of the game now that we are dug in and ready to receive them with...warm gifts. Still, until then, here’s a little tidbit on who we’re fighting: 20th Mechanized Corps and 4th Airborne Corps.

While the counterattack historically was at Slutsk to the south of Minsk, I have changed things up so that we can have some better advantages for what is in all reality a tutorial before we truly dive in. With that said, post should be up sometime within the next 24 hours.

Post is up, and I want to use this one to go over a few lessons being taught in the tutorial here.

1. Never work alone, I apologize to 2nd Platoon, 2nd Company but I am using you as the pseudo punching back for this lesson (don't worry, it's not a punishment I just saw the best opportunity to show this with you). Your positioning was indeed superior, which is why you surprised the soviet's greatly and forced them to very rashly declare you a larger unit than you were because of your effectiveness, however you left yourself cut off from the rest of your company, which has allowed the soviets to focus on you with overwhelming numbers and cut off your escape with tanks. I only want to hammer this lesson in because in past iterations of this RP there was one time when a commander isolated himself on a high hill away from all other support and got his entire platoon wiped out as a result, nevertheless your positioning was no where near like that but it's again a lesson I wanted to make early to avoid actually having to wipe anyone's platoon (don't worry, 2nd Platoon will not be wiped in this battle).

2. Pooling support points. As of now, all players have support points (25 to be exact), and while 25 is enough to get a few small support options, it's not enough for any of the really big stuff. As such I've put 1st Company in a really bad position so that the platoon leaders of the company can come together, pool their points and then call in the best support option of the game which is named Carpet Bombing (though tbh it isn't really that, though it's effects might as well be). In missions outside of this, once this tutorial battle is over, the way this would be done would be players announcing on here (or somewhere else) that since they are working towards a single objective (ie two platoons are both trying to take a fortified bunker) they've agreed to pool their points together in order to call in a support option that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford alone. Basically, working and planning together gets you guys shinier things to blow soviets up with. :)

Finally, I wanted to ask a question, should I set up a discord group for this RP in order to make that cooperation and joint work together easier? I'd love to hear all of your guys' thoughts on this, thanks. Also, please accept my apology for any grammar mistakes I made or sloppy sentences, it's rather late right now for me and unlike normally (where that wouldn't be an issue) I've been switched over to day shifts at work so I'm kinda dead tired right now and prone to a few mistakes at the keyboard I'm sure.

The post was great, thanks for taking the time to write a long and cohesive piece from different perspectives! Regarding the Discord stuff: I would recommend you do not set up a Discord, as that usually kills off RPs quite quickly. We don't have that many people as is, and it would be a good idea to post as much on the forum as possible, as that could attract more people.

Also, your reasons for putting 2nd Ptn. under greater pressure are totally legitimate and fair, and though I've nothing against any developments as they stand now, I'll have to ask: In my most recent post, I detailed the troops setting up provisional road blocks to keep away potential soviet vehicles. Since Von Scharnsdorf's men have only set up foxholes, which take a considerably shorter time to build than trenches and don't need any supporting equipment such as wood or steel, I figured that it would make sense for them to have more time. Since my lieutenant is quite strict and a bit of ass, I thought it best to have him order the erection of so-called "provisional road blocks", or rather just fallen trees that have been moved to block the roads. They're only mentioned briefly, but do they count? I added them to the little map that I made beneath my post. If they do count: would it be appropriate to delay the soviet armour's pincer attack until they've figured out how to move around the blocked off roads?

I concur with Vrijstaat in that setting up a discord probably wouldn't be viable due to our small number of players.

Hey Vrijstaat, sorry for not responding sooner. I did see those roadblocks, which in my estimation would probably be able to be gone over by the T-26s (if they weren’t overly large) or simply gone around off the road. Any trucks behind those tanks however would be stuck until the trees could be moved by a squad of men or so. Thankfully those tanks aren’t exactly in the best position right now considering they’re both exposed and their sides are more than likely either towards your AT gunners or the upcoming tanks of 1st Panzer Company...so take that as you will.

Hoosier, I actually really liked that post, good job! Just, in the future, I did distribute radios on a platoon level so the various PLs could communicate with each other. So hopefully your poor dude won’t need to take too many more tank rounds in the future. Also I’ll get an IC reply up for you once everyone else has had a chance to post.

Ok, so I have a question about pooling supply points. Do we have to be together/communicate with each other IC, or do we just have to agree OOCly? Meaning, if I had, could I have just called in the carpet bombing from my platoon radio (now knowing I have one, lol)? Or do we need to radio in our request to the company radio, then the NPC company commander calls it in? What's the etiquette here?
