In the following months, Zardari accused the ruling party and government of being corrupted and failing the people of Pakistan to declare his intent to become the next president of Pakistan. Citing the lack of reinvestment into the Pakistani people, Prime Minister Khan's failure to deliver on any of his promises, and the lack of interest in Kashmir he publicly reprimanded the then-ruling government. This forced the spotlight on the PTI's shortcomings and caused severe backlash towards the party that could be seen throughout than Pakistani landscape. Social and mainstream media in the country painted Zardari as the bold and powerful leader that Pakistan needed, and needed badly.

In the elections of 2023, Zardari won with 43% of the vote. Not only that, the PPP as a whole made sweeping, and frankly shocking victories across the country. Zardari was sworn into office in early September of 2023, declaring that his victory and his presidency was a new era for Pakistan, "...THE PEOPLE'S ERA..."
