I don't want to pick up a great national story of characters and politics which is too vast or un-tangible for me. Also don't want to leave something unfinished or create a RP 'stereotype' out of a country because I haven't experienced it.

I just don't know what to do and what country to do it with, + I can get demotivated after long stretches of time.

(This isn't a rant about sexual tension I promise)

Germany, France, and the UK probably have about equal influence within the organization, though the French have the most powerful military out of the three so I suppose you could say them just on a standpoint of pure numbers. Though the spread of power throughout the influence is far more even than NATO with the huge disparity in military strength.

Turkey is accepted. I notice you used irl military stats but beefed them a bit, which is totally fair given NATO got boofed. I’m gonna have the OP look over it some, but for the most part, you’re fine. Worst case scenario we ask you to change a few numbers a bit.

Yea I went based on the fact that this is four years in the future, used some stuff I found about equipment orders to justify some of those numbers, but figured with NATO retconned and the fact that there's ongoing conflict with Syria that there'd be a natural growth of the Turkish Armed Forces to a certain degree.

EDIT: I take it there isn't an IC yet?

Major Domestic Issues - Government corruption, criminal impunity, low income, inadequate education system, violence and political influence from drug trafficking organizations, drug addiction, the growing economic inequality, the informal economy and/or the low rate of tax collection, absence of the rule of law and government presence in entire areas of the country
Major Foreign Issues - Balancing the Pink Tide and pragmatic trade relations with the United States, illegal immigration from Central America

History - For much of recent history, Mexico has been a nation struggling to survive. The War on Drugs declared by American President Richard Nixon was not only a large blow to the stability to the struggling Mexico, but to nearly all of Latin America. The metaphorical war drove the drug trade underground through Latin America, drastically increasing government corruption, crime rates, and the power of the cartels. In the 90s, Mexico opened its economy to NAFTA, allowing them to use the United States to secure their economy. The Mexican government has a future of strife and conflict ahead of them, constantly battling corruption and the drug trade in order to make Mexico the regional power of Latin America.

In the lead up to the 2018 election, Enrique Peña Nieto was the least popular president on record as he did nothing to stop record breaking crime rates that made a mockery of his pledge in 2012 to halve the murder rate, flaring anger about corruption, a weak economy and Donald Trump, who was still deciding then to tear up or drastically change the North American Free-Trade Agreement.

So who did the ruling party pick to be their 2018 candidate? José Antonio Meade, a technocrat with little political baggage and lots of intellectual heft. Meade was the first candidate for a major political party who did not belong to any party, even if not the last. An economist with a doctorate from Yale University, he held more jobs in the Mexican cabinet than any living politician, including in the PAN government of Felipe Calderón. Yet to win he had to perform a horribly tricky political balancing-act. He attracted voters from the PAN and at the same time, he fired up the PRI’s online supporters and made use of the party’s formidable electoral machine, banking on direct financial support from the Peña Nieto government and sometimes downright interference like the use of the Attorney General’s Office to accuse the PAN candidate of money laundering just as the election process began, investigations which mysteriously vanished after Election Day.

Despite Meade’s above-average approval ratings for a Mexican President that saw foreign investment grow despite corruption and violence remaining rampant, which isn’t saying much, voters were tired of the PRI by 2024, even if the PRI wasn’t tired of staying in power. So what did they do? They fished further out of the political inner circle. They picked the son of billionaire Carlos Slim as their candidate, someone who was unblemished by Mexican politics and had the money and charisma to make voters forget that even if they were voting for the candidate that self-financed his campaign, that had spoken out to the international community against the Trump border wall, they were still voting for the PRI. The old, reliable PRI electoral machine is expected to do the rest but against a voter base of Mexicans more politicized, connected, and active than ever thanks to social media, it will face its strongest challenge to date.

Unknown to the public, President Carlos Slim Domit, son of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, is the childhood friend of Cristobal Carvajal alias “El Licensiado”; co-founder of a small but powerful clandestine political cabal called “El Yunque”. Its power lies in its wealth, political connections, and extensive business connections instead of usual violence or any other criminal activity. The PRI expect Slim to be a type of Peña Nieto president but much more subdued and willing to simply lay back and warm the Presidential Chair for another six years but the populist billionaire could have a surprise in store for the party though first he has to win the elections.

History [MUST LINE UP WITH HISTORY IN "STATUS" SECTION, NOT SET IN STONE AND MUST BE APPROVED BY OPs, WRITE IT LIKE IT'S GOING IN THE "STATUS" SECTION -
The 2014 general election saw the rise of Narendra Modi and the BJP against an increasingly corrupt and incompetent Indian National Congress and the Gandhi dynasty, which had (with some minor hiccups) dominated the political scene of India since independence. Immediately, Prime Minister Modi went to work, hoping to recreate the economic growth he supervised in Gujarat when he was Chief Minister throughout the entirety of India.

The GDP did go up, but unemployment remained (and still remains) high. The tremendous growth Modi looked over in Gujarat did not recreate itself throughout India, but the religious violence did. Communal violence has always plagued the Republic, though under the new administration, the Hindu nationalist ideology of "Hindutva" (literally: Hinduness) was promoted more overtly than under previous BJP administrations. This prompted higher religious divisions between the various minorities, and more and more within the BJP posited that India would be permanently redefined as a Hindu state.

Modi’s rising popularity among the increasingly religious conscious BJP was stunted by the Bangladeshi migrant crisis. Not only did the migrants flood into West Bengal, but also into the Seven Sister States of Northeast India, which were already unstable due to secessionist movements, Naxalite insurgency, and drug runners. Modi’s decision to not deport them back caused quite a stir within the BJP, and was highly unpopular in Northeast India. His blunder would become a major impediment to the growth and increasing popularity of the BJP and the right wing coalition National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and the party was in jeopardy.

The media, which once praised the Modi administration, became increasingly hostile to the Modi government, and the INC was reorganizing in states it had lost in 2014 in hopes to usurp the BJP in the upcoming 2019 elections. The alliance needed to act with decisiveness, or it risks undoing the groundbreaking progress it made in 2014. So, Amit Shah, President of the Republic and Chairman of the NDA along with the BJP leadership transferred the leadership of the party to himself. The controversial move was shadowed by INC leader and head of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty Rahul Gandhi coming under investigation for allegations of using party money to give out interest-free loans to various industrialists at home and abroad. The 2019 elections were won by the now Prime Minister Amit Shah and his NDA, running on a campaign of unity and anti-corruption targeting the failures of the INC and the decades of corruption under the Gandhi family. Unfortunately for the more fundamentalist-minded members of the coalition, the NDA softened its Hindutva stance.

In March of 2020, Jammu and Kashmir came under attack by the Hizbul Mujahideen, killing 52 Indians in Srinagar. With support of the media apparatus and approval from the military, the Government of India suspended Article 370, violated multiple UN resolutions and split Jammu and Kashmir into the union territories of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, and instituted martial law. A total internet blackout was declared on June of 2020, and only the military delivers civilian fatality reports since. The occupation is expected to continue into the 2024 election, and it is expected Prime Minister Shah might escalate tensions to garner further support.

Meanwhile within the INC, a grassroots big tent movement led by prominent Indian politician Shashi Tharoor campaigned for the expulsion of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, and played a part in their prosecution for corruption. The INC continues to reorganize its entire power structure in hopes of reclaiming the government it once ruled for decades.

Mr. Axalis, Mr. Jax, and Mr. Osbar, I hereby present to you my updated application for the position of Republic of India in the roleplay 2024.

Pre-2024 History - The past few years have been a rollercoaster for the island nation. Post Brexit was a tumultuous time as clashes between native British people and Islamic immigrants increased. To quell the violence, Parliament authorized a program in late 2019 that hired over 20,000 new police officers across the island. Cameras were installed all over public places and cops were constantly on the street. Many thought that the UK had truly become a “police state”.

Things were made worse when Queen Elizabeth finally went to the next life in 2020. Wild conspiracy theories of poisoning by a Syrian refugee filled the island and attacks against Muslims increased, as well as retaliatory acts against non-Muslims in response.

The Conservative Party reached peak unpopularity following the violence. In an attempt to regain his parties image and prevent a vote of no confidence, Prime Minister Johnson decided to pursue a major victory overseas. The option came with the invasion of Nicaragua. Parliament authorized the deployment of 7,000 British forces to deploy to Nicaragua alongside the United States invasion. A major win for the government’s public image appeared after a daring raid by the SAS rescued several thousand imprisoned youth who had been jailed for protesting. The image of an SAS Sergeant holding a shaking girl in his arms was plastered all over the BBC.

The quick war and the moral victories caused the Conservative Party’s popularity to skyrocket back up to 2019 numbers. The spirit of nationalism that thrived on the day of Brexit returned yet again.

However, the Virumaa Crisis would complicate things. Riding the Nicaragua victory, Johnson proclaimed that the UK would not let calls from their allies go unheard. This plan was crushed when the United States failed to come through with their NATO obligations. The government’s popularity sank yet again as the UK appeared weak and cowardly.

Scotland was the biggest crisis of the last several years. After SNP called a referendum and succeeded in getting a majority vote, the Prime Minister quickly declared it as illegitimate and protests ensued. It seemed between Virumaa and Scotland the victories of Nicaragua had been swept away.

Johnson quickly looks for a way to reassert the power of his government as a potentially disastrous election looms. Polling shows Labour having a massive resurgence under party leader Keir Starmer. It is likely the Conservatives will seem to intervene in a conflict to save their current government, and to tell the world that the UK is still a force to be reckoned with.

Your military numbers seem oddly low, going off Global Firepower Index but if it's a mistake let me know. Accepted. Though I'm not gonna lie, I'm really fucking pissed you killed the Queen before the International Entity Council was able to, we're coming for Charles though Image

I find it unlikely the queen would still be alive by 2024...
