Personal information
Name: Jag Caliman
Age: 44
Species: Miralan
Appearance: Jag is a rather short, stocky man, well aged, but still aged nonetheless
Planet of origin: Mandalore
Rank and title: Minister
Short biography:
Mandalore after the Clone Wars was a place of transition and unrest, and even the iron fist of the New Order could not prevent the ensuing corruption that would arise. In this environment, the orphan known as Jag would know no other family than the Empire, and no other life than that of intrigue. Regardless of the necessity in order to advance to higher echelons of the New Order, simple survivability, or a predilection towards guile and conniving, Jag gradually climbed through the ranks of the Imperial Security Bureau, while maintaining a genuine belief in the reeducation and integration of youths into the Empire. He acted as a wallflower webspinner, maintaining his middling post as a Sector Officer before distancing himself from the ISB post-Alderaan, and more into the desperate attempt to ideologically reconcile the destruction of Alderaan. Jag Caliman made connections, not enemies. As the galaxy gave way from New order to New Republic, the aspiring Minister of Education and Public Enlightenment seeks new opportunity, and rather to possibly perish at least on his own terms rather than in isolation...and aims to do so by enticing the young Luke Skywalker with potential baubles related to the former Jedi Order. Of course, his former colleagues-those who may prove a nuisance to reintegrate-would also be negotiated over, should the provisional government desire.
Political information
Political views: In short, a Feudal Minarchist, who admires the Spirit of the Empire and a “concert of worlds” rather than Palpatine himself. He desires a state strong enough and efficient enough to ensure the basic needs of each world, but no stronger.
Political faction and subfaction: Imperials/Early Imperialist
Organisational allegiance: Imperial Security Bureau (formerly), Commission for the Preservation of the New Order (currently)
Position within galactic government: Aspiring Minister of Education and potential persona non grata
Political goal: To restore an “active government, rather than a passive quagmire of bureaucracy”. His slogan being “Sovereignty, Security, Prosperity”. That meaning that the government must be legitimate solely upon its ability to secure it’s citizens and their prosperity. Ideally, he would wish for a galactic Constitutional Monarchy, powerful enough to assist during times of crisis but not inhibiting interregional commerce.
Favourable factions:
Status Quo- Caliman’s connection with the various former bureaucrats, industrialists, and important civilians of the old Empire meant that he spends as much time with this faction as he does with his own.
Sovereignist - Between the failures of the late Republic and the power of the Moffs of the Empire, Caliman wishes to promote regional power and prosperity so as to gradually “create a galactic community, rather than a polity dependent on Coruscant.”
Amidalists - He is willing to compromise with a Constitutional Monarchy evident on countless worlds such as Naboo, Toydaria, Mandalore, ect. As such, to represent the people, a strong Chancellor and Senate must both guide and enforce the rule of the Sovereign-who ought to embody the ideals and nature of the galactic state.
Warlords - The good Senator happens to be well connected with Moffs and Generals (notably Moff Denn Wessex, Gen. Arhul Kurumenga, as well as other members of COMPNOR/Coalition for Progress and the various Imperial Corps) which brings about natural suspicion. Of course, the good senator retorts with “who else is going to negotiate with them[the Imperial leaders]?”
Unfavourable factions:
Centralists - He views the Centralists as somewhat less naive Valorumists, or rather believes that centralisation of bureaucracy upon Coruscant was what lead to the need and creation of the Empire.
Valorumists - Considering that said Republic under not only Valorum, but his predecessors as well, was ultimately what caused the Clone Wars and rise of the Empire. He views them as a naive faction, who wish for something that cannot be accomplished under these circumstances
Parliamentarians - Tyranny of the majority, and often the target of uniting the Centralists and Sovereignists (moreso the latter) against them.
Palpatinists - Ironic on paper, but not on principle. Those who fulfill their promises and rule well shall curry their own loyalty, rather than loyalty somehow making miracles.
Key issues:
Chancellery Cabinet: To help streamline support for the government among the former imperials, even though Caliman himself disliked Mon Mothma, he would offer his services as a former member of the ISB and COMPNOR.
Slavery & Speciesism: Slavery cannot coexist in a meritocratic mindset, even if that mindset is more sympathetic to authoritarianism than not.
Criminality: As much as he will be loath to admit it, but the Black Sun and Hutt Clans may be useful for allowing credits to be made to pay off the loans. Going against such an ancient and powerful para-government would be both hazardous for his health, and the health of the new government. However, he just needs the Hutt’s money and stability, not necessarily them.
Amnesty: One of his forefront issues, to incorporate former Imperial bureaucrats and to allow only “just tribunals, not only against the Tarkins but the Gurerras as well”.
The Veterans & Military: Tentative plans are being made, not only to incorporate Imperial Warlords and military leaders for their “leadership qualities” but to utilize the vast Galactic Military as both a peacekeeping force as well as using them for massive infrastructure and Social Programs.
The Banks & Economy: The Bantha in the ballroom. (This portion shall be filled as soon as I cobble together a variety of economic situations that would be advantageous to him)
The Jedi: Perhaps contrary to most die-hard Imperials, he doesn’t view Luke Skywalker in the same light as the Jedi Order of old. Jedi and figurehead the former farmboy may be, but he is still but one man, and an overwhelmed one at that. All in all, the Jedi must not be held outside of the government, but even then the rebuilding of the Order will take time and require careful tending to grow to its full potential. A fact that Caliman is most eager to utilize.
Ilum Riots: Somewhat contrary to hardliners on both sides, Caliman urges Gen. Byrass to negotiate settlements with the workers and to come quietly, as the new government didn’t need the Kyber Crystals, and he personally didn’t want a bunch of ruthless Stormtroopers dead. Of course, knowing much of the Imperial brass to value loyalty over pragmaticism, Caliman will have no troubles turning a blind eye to any lynch mobs that may remove him...but keep an eye on the chaos to prevent it from spilling out anarchy across the Outer Rim, or along the Entralla Hyperlane.
Additional For reading purposes:
Staunch Supporter - Caliman views these people most in line with his ideals and supports them wholeheartedly.
Common Cause - Through excessive usefulness, swaying, and compromise, this faction and it’s people have more in common than not.
Begrudging Ally - Either by tenacity of their purporters, the fact they hold a majority of the Senate, or because they are a stepping stone, this faction or it’s people are what Caliman must contend with.
Ardent Opponent - To say that these people dislike one another is an understatement.
