Third Age: A Lord of The Rings RP [OOC/OPEN]

Third Age: A Lord of The Rings RP

Image

“Home is behind, the world ahead,
and there are many paths to tread
through shadows to the edge of night,
until the stars are all alight.”

IC:

“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”

17 years have passed since Bilbo's 111th birthday, suprisingly Bilbo never left his ring to Frodo.
September T.A. 3001. After Bilbo's farewell party he left with Nar, Anar, and Hannar to Rivendell where they would stay for just a few days. Under the watchful eye of Elrond they stayed, per request of Gandalf, and upon leaving Elladan and Elrohir announced to Bilbo that they'd be joining him on his journey to the Lonely Mountain.
And so the six journeyd to Erebor, only to arrive in April of the next year. Bilbo got reunited with several members of the company that he took part of all those years ago. Dwalin, Dori and Nori, Glóin, Bifur and Bofur, and Bombur, they all met Bilbo once more at the Lonely Mountain. Bilbo also met Dáin II Ironfoot again who warned Bilbo of the "increasing shadows as of late".
After a month Bilbo decided to head for Moria, where Balin, along with others, had set up a Dwarven colony.
Along with Elladan and Elrohir, Dwalin, and Glóin's son, Gimli, Bilbo travelled to Moria, only to find out about the disasterous end Balin and the others had met. The company decided it was not safe to wander around and decided to head back to Erebor where they delivered the news to King Dáin II Ironfoot.
Months later it became clear that the Dwarves had started to preparing for a war, likely against the Orcs of Moria. Bilbo was not in a position to join and instead decided to return to Rivendell where he stayed since January T.A. 3004.

The world has grown darker ever since then, the Dwarves have gathered and have started to march west, both to Moria as to Gundabad. In the south Gondor faces the encroaching forces of Mordor and struggles to keep hold of Ithilien.
Close to Hobbiton Black riders have gathered, searching for a Hobbit by the name of Baggins. Gandalf, with support of the Rangers of the North fought them off two times and as the Rangers hold guard Gandalf has urged Frodo to leave the Shire and head for Rivendell.
Isengard has grown cold as Saruman has ordered his own search for the Baggins through his many spies. Whatever happens next will determine the future of all of Middle-Earth.

“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

Welcome to the Third Age, where anything is possible.
Darkness has spread and Middle-Earth is on the verge of war. What role you will play in this is entirely up to you. Will you join the dark side or will you stand with the free peoples? And will you be a mighty King or will you be a humble soldier?

“Pay heed to the tales of old wives. It may well be that they alone keep in memory what it was once needful for the wise to know.”

This is one of my favourite parts of Return of the King. I'm in!
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

I'm still deep in thought on that. I'm not even sure about the side. Haradrim, Elves... Also, I want to give Glorfindel his share of the glory. But Isengard is cool too... I'm gonna have to think some more about it.

I like Denethor, but will it be possible to incapacitate or kill him in some form before the RP starts? His inflexible mindset might do Gondor more harm than good, especially if he resists Aragorn's claim...

Edit: And while we're at it, Boromir, but only because I want to put Faramir on the Steward's seat and he is an obstacle to that...

Edit 2: Ah, I have to keep things as close to Canon as possible, meaning that the above two possibilities are unlikely.

First GoT, now LOTR, love the new sudden uptrend in fantasy media RPs

Idk who I'm gonna pick honestly, I've never been exactly an expert in LOTR plus a lot of the factions don't exactly match with my play style

Perhaps a Mercenary company of some type?
Call me Warg or Antic
Yeah, u do that and I’m gonna have to force u to pull a France, and then a Vichy-Wargloria, after one of his allies proposed pulling an Italy

So it is 17 years past the point of the books.

What is the deal with rohan then? Theoden still alive? Saruman have massive influence?

Go with Edit 2. Boromir could always die in battle somewhere, but Denethor is quite difficult to get rid of. In fact, i suppose only Aragorn could make him leave (or Gandalf ofcourse).

Rohan would be a nice choice, gives you a lot of room to play around with. Be careful though, if you chose Théoden you're still influenced by Saruman. In that regard Isengard might offer you the same eventually.

We used to have regular LOTR RP's on here but it's been quite a while since the last one, figured i might as well try again.
Mercenary companies are a possibility yes, though i'm sure something would fit. What exactly is your play style?

It's 17 years since Bilbo's 111th birthday, so bookwise we're around the point where Frodo finds out he has the One Ring and has to leave the shire. Basically only thing changed is that Bilbo never got rid of the ring, and thus was able to travel more than he could in the books.

Ah yes thats right, haven't read the books in a while so I forgot the adventure takes place a while after his 111th.

Could I take Eomer perhaps, or would it be erkenbrand, and attempt to free Rohan of Isengards control?

You can even take both if you like, though if you want just one, Erkenbrand does have the better claim.

Isn't Eomer in the actual line of succession though? I believe that erkenbrand is just the lord of westfold.

Ah yes you're right. I forgot, Théodred was Théoden's son, and he's still alive at this point. In the books he died in a battle against Isengard's forces sometime early in the war.

Application

Name: Kingdom of Rohan
Notable Characters: Erkenbrand, Theodred, Eomer, Theoden, Grima, Eowyn
Race: Human
History: Rohan was a great kingdom of Men, located in the land once known as Calenardhon, situated in the great vale between the Misty Mountains to the north and the White Mountains to the south. The land of Rohan extended from the fords of the river Isen in the west, up to the shores of the river Anduin in the east. The forest of Fangorn lay within the borders of Rohan, and the Elven city of Lorien lay to the north of the river Limlight.

The land of Rohan was originally part of Gondor, but gained independence from it. The land was first known as "Rohan" to the Men of Gondor, and its people the Rohirrim, meaning 'the Horse-lords', but the people of Rohan called themselves the Eorlingas, sons of Eorl the Young, first King of Rohan, as the land of Calenardhon was given in gift to Eorl and his people by Cirion, Steward of Gondor, in thanks for their service to Gondor in battle against the Balchoth. Eorl, the first king, swore an oath of friendship, at need or at call, to the Lords of Gondor, and thus the Rohirrim became the greatest allies of the Men of Gondor throughout the Third Age and beyond. They were known for their cavalry and horse training, which came into use countless times in battles.
Army: 120 Eored (12,000 Riders), infantry levy of 10-20 thousand
Goals: Secure Independence from Isengard and Saruman
Other: King Theoden is under the influence of Saruman and hinders the efforts of His heir and his nephew in ridding the taint of Isengard.
RP Sample: viewtopic.php?p=35693927#p35693927

Application

Name: Theodred
Age: 41
Race: Human
History: Théodred's mother Elfhild died giving birth to him. During the War of the Ring, Prince Théodred was the Second Marshal of Rohan and commanded western Rohan. He set Grimbold in command with fifty dismounted Riders, while Théodred himself manned the eyot, to cover Grimbold if he was driven back. Little else is known about him, except that he loved Éomer like a brother, and loved no one more except for Théoden.
Goals: Rid Rohan of the Taint of Isengard
Other: Theodred is the Heir of Rohan and second marshall, his father is under the Influence of the Fallen wizard Saruman and is beginning to choke Rohan of any independence.

No notable characters in Rohan?

As for the Character app, Isengard hasn't gone fully evil yet (this will soon change unless some other player decides to take another route with Isengard) so no battle has taken place so far.
