Same here. Dark FTW.

Am also generally a fan of dark mode too! I was originally just going to go for that one, but then had a thought that the white background gave a bit of a sense of "purity" and "light" that links a bit more with the Mandate's pseudo-religious culture/origins?

I wonder if people will accidentally mistake our flags and symbols, causing amusing but ultimately tragic incidents on the foreign scale.

Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

Was about to agree and end things there, but then for shits-and-giggles went ahead and googled white and yellow flags. Real bad idea cause it's just made me indecisive again:

Vatican City
Kingdom of Jerusalem

That religious iconography is bloody tempting...how jarring is it on your folks' screen?

So what are space navies like? Are they just all big warships, or are fighters a thing in this universe?

Oh wait, I remember one of my ships is a carrier. In fact, it is the main ship of the fleet.

Now, all I have to do is actually get around to writing something.

Probably depends how hard we want our sci-fi. Space fighters and the like generally aren't considered to be all that realistic, but they're still pretty darn cool to have around. Though if we want to have them, it'd probably be worth discussing how essential they'd be to a fleet's performance. Would fighters be as essential and dominant in naval engagements as carriers are today, or would a non-fighter naval doctrine be just as effective in its own way?

Also depends on doctrine as well.

The Cyberocracy employs carriers, but their payloads are less "dogfighting space frame" than it is "A smaller, remote controlled ship with a bunch of guns on it". It could be possible that smaller, resource-strapped powers could produce small fighter-esque ships en masse, but even then one would expect something like the Rocinante from The Expanse.

Maybe battlecarriers can work in space.
Put bombers in its bays to sneak in more damage.

Yeah, the hard scifi argument always boils down to whether fighters are any better than guided missiles since larger ships with bigger engines are likely to be faster and better armed/armoured. It ends up where space fighters/bombers are more like PT boats than fighter jets in terms of combat capability. Though that being said, there's no reason we can't just say "we know it's not necessarily super realistic, but we're going to have strike craft be viable in the rp since it's fun."

I could just change the specialty to just being able to have a navy by attrition. Like so many other shipbuilding companies.

Small craft would be viable because they could rotate on their gyroscope quickly and would be cheaper than larger combat ships

But a smaller craft would also not be able to travel as far as a larger ship, and would require frequent resupply. While a much larger vessel could stock up on supplies and travel far.

Also, bigger ship=bigger/longer guns, larger sensor arrays, and a ton of other stuff.
