I already have a bunch of ideas for where I want to be after the time skip. I agree though if Joohan has time right now I think we should put together at least a basic sketch of the world for era III.

I actually quite enjoy when folks criticize the Imperium's borders. It shows that I'm building them off of uncommon knowledge, which is quite gratifying for my ancient education.

Technically more along the lines of culturally Proto-Indo-European/Baden, while incorporating a vague swathe of central European lands. With, of course, via the Author, a smattering of German, English, American, South African, and Russian archetypical isolates.

The borders for the Imperium of Man appear to be natural riverine borders incorporating the land surrounding the rivers. This is actually more effective in some ways than artificial nation state borders. One of the problem with centralized national borders is that the borders become points of contention for illegality and banditry as well as smuggling. It is hard to maintain clean national borders without having cities with militias or armies near the border points to prevent rivals from setting up opposition.

Partially true, but partially not. The Imperium's borders are a combination of both riparian access and not-tracing-lines-across-mountains. Outside of the core regions there are certainly areas (Wallachia, Poland, South Germany) where those riparian borders abut on reasonably habitable land, which is where you'll see plenty of military presence. In the core areas, though, the areas that are unoccupied are largely high mountain ranges over which the Imperium could nominally exert authority, but doesn't technically have a presence.

Expanding along rivers means you are a network of relatively isolated river cities as opposed to a real contiguous empire. My current map for China is largely limited by what its practical and reasonable to send armies and trade too.

For the ten year timeskip I have some areas along the Yangtze that are sort of like the Imperium, in that due to geography and barbarians the only control I have permanently is near the river and the area around that is only really under control if I have a patrol there at the time.

IMO if we do the timeskip you should bring most of Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary under your control. Those places have natural resources and will secure you against barbarians that are probably getting better organized and equipped because of you.

I’m going to have China start to have problems with barbarians as well, especially in the north where they’ll be able to threaten a lot of iron producing areas.

I've been gone for a LONG while, I don't know what happened with Camdens in Sariah, or even if he's still accepted anymore but it's good to see discussion still happening.

Some of the Illyrians are in the tip of Italy, so the Camdens if they made it to the base of Italy could in a remote way make contact with the Nestos League. This might be interesting. We could get more christians in the Nestos League.
