22 years into the Commonwealth there probably are quite a few ossified political fossils sitting on the legislature, but a long career certainly isn’t guaranteed. Doubly so in the executive branch, which is liable to get sacked and replaced wholesale when parliamentary majority shifts from one faction to another. Even in the legislature I imagine someone serving until death is more exception than norm - local politics can, after all, be quite competitive also.

Competitive in modern polities where everyone isn't related to everyone else, certainly. Kinship-entrenched systems of patronage and support for tribal leaders, though, will probably see those tribal leaders holding their locally elected positions almost in perpetuity - unless you combined multiple kindreds into single electorates, in which case your democracy is going to be spicy.

Quite difficult to tell how far ahead you are since you have no dates. But your making quite a amount of progression between posts.

A legislative seat represents one settlement, which average 200~250 individuals at present. It’s definitely not a group tied together solely by family bonds.

The atmosphere definitely is going to be more communal, though - with that electorate size most people know their representative personally and being a representative isn’t a full time occupation. Somewhat more like secondary school student councils than the Canadian House of Commons.

But that sort of politics - the informal, favour-trading, reputation-and-patronage system of office/classroom politics, is still politics. It certainly is very stable, but over a 20-year career there are a lot of political pitfalls to be avoided beyond just the obvious old age and death.

Is... is viktor riding on a engine powered vehicle?

As previously stated, major technological discoveries should be publicly announced prior to their introduction, and their research shown Ic'ly - not just dropped out of nowhere.

Also, WHYYY? What purpose could that thing serve aside from image? I imagine that the amount of the Imperium's resources that get diverted toward Viktor's pleasure projects is stroke inducing.

" As for the April quarterly deficit there's... my lord, what is that on your wrist? "

" Oh this old thing, it's a wrist watch - I recently invented it! It's a cog driven device, constituting hundreds of intricate moving parts. "

" Oh, well, brilliant my lord! Out of curiosity... how much did it cost? "

" Well, taking into account all the specialty tools I had to design in order to begin constructing it, the hundreds of parts I had to design, test, and develop from scratch, the dozens of faulty test designs, all the experts I had to bring in from their jobs to help me design it, all the man hours put into - being taken from other fields... You know what, it's not that important. "

* Now sweating nervously * " Oh... O-Okay... and... what does it do? "

" It tells time "

* Nose begins to bleed * " ... We-we can do that now! We just look at the sun! It's a very common skill! "

* Points at drip * " Yeah but this is cooler. "

* Stroke begins * " ... Okay my lord... whatever you say. "

" If you love that, you're gonna love my idea for a giant money eating, self moving parade float. Also, how do you feel about a 3rd war with the Commonwealth? "

* Stroke intensifies *

No, that's not how either antibiotic's or medicine works.

If you wantt some very early form of penicillin, discalimer, never, absolutely ever do it unless you have no other option, as it's very faulty, you can just wait until something goes moldy and then wait intil that mold becomes blueish

Indus Valley Civilisation, presumably.

Seconded. Before you start putting your ambitions into action you need to be able to communicate clearly enough that we know what you’re doing. That last IC was a pain to read and even more of a pain to decipher.

I’m still not sure what advantage you’re expecting to derive from these highly expensive contraptions. It just strikes me as less mobile heavy infantry.

We’re really running up to the limits of our population... I don’t think the Commonwealth can find any use for steam transportation at all, except maybe in mining.

I am curious, in terms of development, how is Viktor's ambitions affecting total, overall development for those lands that have taken the Oaths?

Between all the wars, insistence upon a massive metal industry, huge amounts of steel being dedicated to the military, all the resources and man hours being given over to projects which either have no proactive benefit ( the white palace, clocks, multi-storied buildings, writing lotr, etc. ) or no immediate benefit ( the steam engine ), and all the projects which Viktor is throwing himself at once while dividing his time, as well as all the administrators and specialists needed to manage these affairs alone - how is this affecting development outside of Moravia? Germany, Hungary, Serbia, all the rest?

Spoiler alert, this is going to tie into your approaching event.

The Imperium doesn't really have any use for it either right now. Huge population, sure, but most of it they can't really use. Lack of literacy, development, loyalty, specialists, beyond Moravia and such. Rapid expansion in all directions has it's consequences.

Still wandering what ships Indus is sailing. Just going to assume its galleys since Ur's naval tech hasn't spread and Nux hasn't made any big post devoting research and resources to trying to go beyond.
