The local populace will also have all of these things if they join one of our client Republics, especially Slavic-speaking Polotsk. Better access to international trade, frankly, than joining the Union.

What incentivises joining the Slavic Union in particular as opposed to some other major polity in the region?

He probably kills them if they don’t.

Possible, maybe after a century. But tribes to the south like the Volga, Skalev, and Antiosk would be too far from the Commonwealth to really benefit from it (and what stops the Slavic Union/Allied States of Rus from trading with the Commonwealth and other powers while its Czar bids his time to be more aggressive with his goals?), and the Kolochin, Voskresenk, Vitachi (the people using the iron in my last post) and Kaluga do not want to be ruled over by Germanic kings.

Besides, it's not like Sasha will actually show his goal of eating up Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, and Czechia until Russia has become a very major power, so relations with the Commonwealth can be cordial for the first several centuries.

Bear in mind that few people live here. The few villages forged out of these nomads are small, and the churches built likely reflect that. Sariah is more of a holy city where people go in or around that has a set circle of influence. Their borders are... incredibly ambitious, to say the least, but when you consider the population density it isn't that bad.

Mind you we've started enforcing a borders as controlled, not as claimed policy when it comes to official mapping. It's why the Imperium looks like a deformed goose, Gdansk is relatively small, and the Commonwealth is split in half. From what I've read (and I could be wrong), the Camdenites are more a loosely knit group than a formal government. While that's fine, it's not the same thing as accepted, enforceable ownership of territory

Edited extent of the Allied States of Rus. As you can see, I've taken mostly the tributaries of the Volga River.

A note to Camdens. Would not have made it to Italy yet. (Moved to OOC from IC).

Right now, I have made it across what would be Albania in the modern sense. Illyria would be area which I am slowly expanding into. I have not crossed to Italy yet. I would just be starting on Athens for trade which in 3000 b.c. would be a beginning Helladic settlement on the Acropolis. They might have joined several tribes together to form a kind of mythical council. It would be in the times of the Greek Legends Athens. The head of the tribe would have a name like Theseus. There would be a little bit of copper, some stoneware, lot of pottery and flint, lots of poetry, maybe a few local bards. They might live in a longhouse with a tile roof. People would fish, raise cattle, grow wheat and olives. There would be a low stone wall. There might even be dwarf elephants wandering around on some of the islands, remnant of a bygone time that people thought of as cyclops. They Illyrians who don't want to join us might have given them a hand up, leather shields, bronze spears, the beginnings of writing and a healthy respect for our dangerous ways. We might trade with them for gold, pottery, and local produce.

We would have bigger issues to search for like where the Kraken went. There is after all a second genocide on the islands which occurs which we might find out about by the Kraken.

Ah, so in all actuality, it's just a bunch of polkadots across eastern switzerland rather than any tangible borders.

It is *ahem* also good to note that the historical European Bronze Age also won’t start for another few centuries.

Honestly, the full on Bronze Age is just barely beginning in the Fertile Crescent at this time (I'm not sure about when it fully started in the IVC). Because of this, I'm fairly certain that most armies would be using copper with some of the officers and elites using bronze. There may be some iron here and there, but only meteoric iron-nickel alloys that can be hammered into shape and sharpened instead of actually smelted and cast.
