Quirky Heroes
A My Hero Academia Roleplay
This is the OOC Thread!
An Obligatory Introduction!
Long ago, in the city of Qing Qing, China, a baby was born. From day one, the baby was glowing, literally! From there, an innumerable amount of similar occurrences were reported. In the present day, at least 80% of Humanity possesses a special, superhuman ability. These abilities are universally known as "Quirks". In the early days of this new era, society was chaotic, having suddenly been flooded with super-powered criminals. As chaos continued to plague society, ordinary civilians had decided to take matters into their own hands and the first real "Heroes" were created.
As society adapted to the new status quo, regulations were put in place. Since then, only "Pro Heroes" have been allowed to utilise their Quirks.
How might one become a Pro Hero? Well, you'd have to attend a school or academy dedicated to the practice. While many exist across the world, the most famous is "U.A High", located in Musutafu, a city not too far from Tokyo.
For the most part, this roleplay is focused on the latest batch students in U.A High's Class 1-A, though student from other classes, teachers, pro heroes and even villains are welcome.
Types of Quirks
Emitter
Emitter-type Quirks are abilities that allow their users to generate and possibly control certain things or alter existing things around them in certain ways. Emitter-type Quirks can have a wide variety of different properties and abilities. In addition, some Quirks may require a conscious effort to activate and possibly large amounts of concentration to maintain activity. Emission-type Quirks can have varying ranges; While some users may need physical contact to use them, others can have longer ranges with no distance limitations. For the most part, Emitter-type Quirk users have a firm grip on their abilities, though some individuals may hurt themselves through over-usage.
By a wide margin, Emitter-type Quirks are the most common.
Mutant
Mutant-type Quirks cause the user to possess a permanent "abnormality" that is directly related to their abilities, manifesting as varying bodily structures such as additional appendages, or the ability to add structures to enhance preexisting abilities. Some Mutant-type Quirks can even have certain aspects channelled in a similar manner to Emitter-type Quirks. Mutant-type Quirks are also the only known Quirk type that can be passed down through generations without necessarily bestowing the corresponding ability. In addition, Mutant-type Quirks can never be switched off. However, some Mutant-type Quirks may prove to be inconvenient in day-to-day life. They are the most recognisable Quirks, simply due to their passive activity.
Transformation
Transformation-type Quirks are abilities that cause the user to take on a temporary alteration of some kind, whether it's by enhancing, removing or even adding features to the body. They typically require conscious effort to activate though most users can train themselves to activate their Quirks reflexively. However, most Transformation-type Quirks are only effective at close range. While powerful, they are often temporary and over-exertion can negatively effect the user. They can also be limited based on the body's resilience and resources.
Transformation-type Quirks are sometimes referred to as "Hybrid" or "Composite", as they are essentially a combination of the other two types.
While most Transformation-type Quirks only affect the user, some can affect others, though this is rare.
Known Sub-types
Accumulation
Some Quirks require that the user accumulate a particular resource in advance, such as energy, mass or power. As such, some Quirks are also referred to as "Accumulation-type". Without the necessary resources, these Quirks are generally weakened, if-not useless.
The Rules
- Godmodding, Meta-gaming, all that fluff isn't allowed.
- Keep it PG-13. NSFW Roleplay is not allowed on NationStates, not even in telegrams.
- Try to keep flame wars to an absolute minimum, to which I mean don't start them at all, please.
- Creativity is welcome and appreciated, I expect the majority of the Quirks seen in this roleplay to be custom anyways (ask for permission to use quirks similar to half hot half cold).
- If you want a Quirk seen in the source material though, it'd make most sense that your character is descended from it's original user, so ask permission! (Note: Nobody is allowed to use One for All or All for One.)
- Even animals can have Quirks, though that's an incredibly rare phenomenon. So yes, you CAN roleplay as an intelligent animal with a Quirk.
- Minimum 3 lines for roleplay posts, please!
- Keep OOC to OOC Thread, IC to IC thread.
- Have fun! I'm not joking, fun is MANDATORY.
