Welcome to the country of Pacifia!

This country covers most of the west coast of the USA, from the north tip of Washington to the southern tip of California.

The capital is the Californian city of Sacramento.

In this roleplay, there will be an upcoming election! The following four parties are the major parties to be standing, but feel free to suggest your own:

Pacifia National Party (PNP) - centre-right to right-wing party that is currently in government.
Liberal Socialist Party (LSP) - left-wing populist party that is currently the second largest party.
Reform Nationalist Party (RNP) - right-wing populist nationalist party - usually gets 5-10% of vote, but has very few elected officials.
Oregon National Party (ONP) - centre-left independence movement for the Pacifian province of Oregon - usually gets around 40-50% of votes in Oregon, and 5-10% overall.

There are two elected chambers in the Pacifia Legislature - Parliament, and the Senate. The Parliament is the Lower Chamber, which elects 300 MPs (Members of Parliament - one per each parliamentary constituency). Here is how parliament is going before the election:

156 PNP MPs
122 LSP MPs
7 ONP MPs
3 RNP MPs
(12 seats for left for new parties)

The Senate is the lower chamber, which elects 50 Senators (two per each Senate region). Here is how it is going before the election:

21 PNP Senators
20 LSP Senators
2 ONP Senators
1 RNP Senator
(6 Senate seats left for new parties)

The winning party needs to have at least either a majority in Parliament and largest number of seats in the Senate (or vice versa) OR have the largest amount of influence over the legislature (most amount of Senators + MPs). The leader of the winning party becomes the President, who is usually also a Senator.

Here are positions that we need to fill:

Current Leader of ONP (ONP Senator/MP)
Current Leader of RNP (RNP Senator/MP)
Leader/Senator/MP of other political parties
Senators/MPs of PNP/LSP/ONP/RNP

Please make apps for characters down below (in OOC), and I will process them shortly. If you are accepted, please be active in the IC.

The election is expected to end around February 1st (however may end earlier).

The Sacramento Times

A new poll conducted by the Pacifian Polling Agency (PPA) has found that the Pacifia National Party is just lagging behind the Liberal Socialist Party for the upcoming election. This comes as a shock to the party, which won the last election with a majority of 12 in Parliament.

The poll had a sample size of 565. The results were as follows:

PNP (Pacifia National Party)- 39.1% - 143 MPs (-13) - 19 Senate (-2)
LSP (Liberal Socialist Party) - 42.8% - 147 MPs (+25) - 23 Senate (+3)
RNP (Reform Nationalist Party) - 11.8% - 3 MPs (=) - 0 Senate (-1)
ONP (Oregon National Party) - 3.4% - 2 MPs (-5) - 2 Senate (=)
Other - 2.9% (1 seat) 5 MPs (-7) - 6 Senate (=)

This is a great early showing for the LSP, however not good enough for a majority in Parliament. It's disappointing for the PNP, who were hoping
to improve on their parliamentary majority and gain a majority in the Senate. For the ONP, it is an extremely disappointing showing - losing five MPs and 3 points in the vote share would eliminate the cause of Oregonian independence altogether. It's hard to tell whether this poll is good or bad news for the RNP, who only had 6% of the vote share last election. Obviously, their vote share is looking positive in this poll, but losing their only Senate seat would not be good news.

Overall, the LSP will be looking to continue the momentum they have gained due to the public being disappointed with the PNP government.

PNP
Internal Memo

This internal memo outlines the party's strategy to retake the lead in the polls. This has been co-written by twelve staffers and electoral strategists and has been approved by the President.

1. Bring the discussion to the economy - and especially the tax cuts. Ignore social issues and focus on the economy. Even when the discussion gets on other issues (immigration, social issues, etch), always try to bring the discussion back to the economy and always mention the tax cuts. The tax cuts are popular among voters and should be mentioned as often as possible. The rather strong performance of the economy should also be brought up. Avoid though any talks about the deficit and try to deflect such questions.

2. On immigration, avoid giving detailed answers about the jail camps. Simply mention that allegations of abuse shall be examined and if true, they shall be dealt with. Defend the camps as a correct measure overall but do mention that living conditions could be improved. Candidates should maintain a balance between promising improved conditions for migrant prisoners (to avoid losing moderate voters) and keeping up the policy of border control (to avoid losing nationalist voters).

3. Free trade should be an important part of the upcoming electoral campaign - defend them as measures that will create tens of thousands of new jobs and will improve our relations with other countries. Hammer down protectionist opponents as isolationists and dangerous to the economy. Candidates should memorize names of economists who support free trade, in order to sound more credible to the average voter.

4. Paint the LSP as a communist, open-borders and fiscally irresponsible party. There should be a tons of ads showing threatening-looking migrants, mainly of color, pouring into the country: some ads could show those migrants attacking white families. Other ads should focus on the economy and contrast the current performance of the economy with a supposed LSP administration, which in the ad will be shown bankrupting the country. Add some footage of Venezuela and North Korea to make the point. Last but not least, ads should be aired which will contrast the popular tax cuts of our administration with the tax increases the LSP wants to bring. Accuse the LSP of wanting to overtax everyone. All the above points should also be mentioned by candidates and party members on TV and radio news shows.

5. The party should focus on the winning over middle and upper class voters with its fiscally conservative platform and record of tax cuts and by demonizing the LSP as communist and for open borders. Those are the two themes of the campaign: talk about our economy and tax cuts, show ads of the LSP opening the borders and destroying the economy.
