Welcome to Swords 'n' Shields, a roleplay taking place within the world of Pokémon, the UK-themed Galar region to be exact. This roleplay could be considered to be the spiritual successor to "Adventures in Anglion", which coincidentally took place in a UK-themed region. It should be noted however that this roleplay will contain heavy spoilers for Pokémon Sword and Shield, as well as the upcoming "Isle of Armour" and "Crown Tundra" expansions. Unlike the Sword and Shield games however, you'll be able to acquire ALL Pokémon (with the exception of Legendary Pokémon, as that would throw the world into disarray), a few lucky folks may even find themselves wielding Mega Evolution or Z Moves.
Swords 'n' Shields takes place after a modified Sword and Shield story-line. It has been five years since Eternatus was defeated, averting a catastrophe known as the "Darkest Day". The Legendary Pokémon's whereabouts are unknown, though it is theorized to have entered a deep slumber. Despite the mistakes of it's chairman, the Pokémon League is as popular as ever and is set to be held once again.
The Rules
- As expected, all of NationStates's rules apply.
- Co-OP's word is law, unless OP says otherwise because OP's word has twice the law.
- This roleplay enforces a three-line minimum for In-Character posts, to maintain a standard of quality.
- There is no limit to how many characters you may have, just make sure you are able to handle them all.
Mechanics
Pokémon Capture
The capturing system is a hybrid of the anime and the games. You can weaken a Pokémon and then toss a Pokéball at it to attempt capture. For the most part, it is successful, though there is a chance of failure. Knocking a Pokémon out cold guarantees a capture but it is also a bit mean, don't you think? However, sometimes you won't even need to fight a Pokémon, they may just take a liking to you and let you capture them. However, some Pokémon may just need a helping hand and will refuse capture outright.
However, most Legendary and Mythical Pokémon may not be caught. After all, if you capture Arceus, that essentially makes YOU god.
Random encounters are decided by OP or Co-OP based on the area you're in.
Pokémon Battles
The battle system for the most part is like the games, being somewhat turn-based. Which suits the post-by-post way in which NationStates roleplays function. However, as well as the traditional "Fight", "Pokémon", "Bag" and "Run" options, you will also be able to tell your Pokémon to "Dodge". The Pokémon level system is employed here. However, the max level is 200 as opposed to just 100. Gym Battles are done with OP, Co-OP or authorised roleplayers.
Pokédex
Nowadays, everyone has a Rotom Phone. In addition to serving as a regular smartphone, the Rotom Phone also comes in with a built-in Pokédex. Now, unlike Pokémon Sword and Shield, this roleplay has the entire National Dex. Yep, all 890 Pokémon can be seen in some shape or form.

Items
Per the norm, items can be purchased in PokéMarts or even found in the wild. However, certain items such as the typical Key Items, Mega Stones, Z-Crystals, etc are distributed by the OP and Co-OPs.
Evolution
Item-based evolution works exactly like they do in the games, you give the Pokémon the item it needs and BAM, evolved. Trade-based evolution work the same too, you just trade it to another person and pray to Arceus that they give it back after the evolution is completed. Level-based evolution is also the same.
Starter Pokémon
While you can choose from the 21 traditional starters based on your character's region of origin, you can also choose from certain other species of Pokémon, so long as they possess at least one evolution and aren't late-game Pokémon. Yes, that means your starter can be Pikachu or Eevee. No, you cannot have Scyther as your starter.
Movesets
Unlike the games, your Pokémon may have have up to SIX moves.
