Alyssa

This was quite annoying. The new girl had to be pedantic about where she copied her moves from, Tefford just showed up out of the blue and started ranting to the whole group, and now he was picking a fight with the new girl. Granted, she was annoying, and probably everyone else wanted to hit her, too, but Teff beat the boat back (admittedly with a head start) to shore through Kraken-infested waters, meaning he probably has some kind of power.

"Look, I don't know what the fuck Ascot's going on about her showing powers, and I don't know what the hell you mean by 'drone', and I have no clue how you can tell if she has the plague or not, but if things are as dire as you say they are, you have even less time to waste on killing a little girl than we wasted waiting for her to manifest a power. And that's ignoring any sort of ethical considerations. And another thing. You keep expecting us to act like we know everything you do, but you don't even give us a damn shred of coherent information before flying off the fucking handle. The last time we saw you, you just fucking jumped into the Kraken's domain without ANY explanation. We thought you were fucking dead! And now you expect us to be on the same fucking page as you? We're on page fucking FIVE, and you've already finished the book!" she yelled in pure frustration at Tobias/Tefford, before taking a deep breath and continuing, in a noticeably calmer, though hoarse, voice.

"And I know we're wasting time we don't have, but so are you! Killing her is as much of a waste of time as standing around arguing. Why don't we take her with us? If she's a spy, she won't be able to give the military any info. If she's got powers, they'll probably present themselves when she's in danger, and we'll need all the help we can get anyways. If she's got the plague, well, we're all probably fucked on that front anyways, especially Maurice."

Jack Brekker

He'd stayed mostly quiet as the situation played out, still slightly frazzled by the situation. It had taken a second for the adrenaline rush of literally being in space to kick out, but when it wore off he was just tired. What he really wanted was to go home, but that obviously wasn't an option, considering home probably wasn't real, so instead he followed, watching emotional breakdowns and the idiot squaring up to the principal. She went to attack him, and at that moment Jack followed the group leaving. He had nothing to say, and he certainly wasn't going to try and step between Rosie and Tefford.

Ascot Rider

Seeing Jack run towards, then alongside him, Ascot slowed down to say, "Hey. I know that I am an asshole, and I probably ruined our friendship forever with my behavior. But I want you to know that I'd take a bullet for you any day."

Considering the context, Ascot hoped he came off as sincere, as he genuinely meant every word he said. He had ill-treated on the group he was trying to gather and protect, not having a plan and expecting others to provide him with one even as he presented himself as a 'vanguardist prophet' who would save them. He was young, he was foolish, and despite thinking he had a genius brain, he was still a child.

Turning away from Jack, the boy continued on, feeling the bitter sting of guilt and yet at the same time, hoping that what he found in the Military Base would lead to a way to lighten it - He still wanted to be a hero, but that desire was mixed with an appreciation of the responsibilities of being one.

Time to reflect, I guess.
Sorry for my behavior, P2TM.

It didn't work. Rosie might as well have tried to do a Codebreaker on a statue. He stood motionless, glaring at her as she hung off his neck then, with apparent ease, took her by the collar, holding her at arms length, "So you do have powers," he grunted, then dropped her back onto the ground. There was definitely superhuman strength involved in whatever it was that formed Tefford's set of enhancements; the only one of the group who even approached him was Allison. Clearly they were more developed, and he was better trained in using them than any of the Prefeton High class were, "So that makes you human. Or at least you were once. You can come with me or stay here and die. Your choice."

"As for you... do you ever stop talking?" Tefford rounded on Alyssa, "I don't have time for story time right now. So either you come with me, or you don't... but nobody is getting out of this complex without me. I have contacts with a ship: Captain Sesijura and Newton. We'll need to find a way to contact them to tell them to bring the ship in but then we have a ride out of here. If you want to do your own thing, go nuts. The rest of you, follow me. Now!"

He didn't wait for a response, just rounded on his heels and set off in the direction he had come.

It worked. Technically, as long as you consider getting Tefford to leave Rosie alone a stretch goal-which she did-so it was another flawless success. She twisted in the air to land on her feet, taking a step back. "No, I've been trying for at least forever these last few minutes, and nothing works. Unless!" She turned back to the boat and pointed at it, and absolutely nothing happened. "Nope, not magnet powers. Maybe they have a list of what they gave everyone?" she said, trying very ineffectively to hide the creeping desperation in her voice. "Then I'd know right away without anymore need to test..."

Annie O’Cassidy
Maurice’s Surprise

It was very rare that Maurice initiated hugs. It wasn’t that he was anti-hug, as Annie understood, but Annie certainly was the instigator of most hugs between them. She reciprocated and hugged him as tightly as she could. As he spoke to her, her hug slowly weakened. She pulled away as he whispered to her. She crouched a bit, and just gazed into his eyes with an expression that was terribly rare for her. She was practically frozen. Her lips were parted just a bit. If one were to compare her visage to something as she stood, it would be that of a Romantic painting—one that art critics would ask their students for years what the woman in the picture might be saying. In fact, she was silent.

“I—” she began as Tefford arrived and made his first command. She never finished what she was going to say. In her heart, it was a relief, of sorts. Maurice had never called her Del. Only family did. Several questions tried to bolt through her mind all at once, and she’d made sense of none of them as a result. As Tefford insisted they all leave at once, Annie grabbed Maurice’s shoulders for a moment and looked into his eyes again and nodded once. She turned and started running towards her car.

“Pile into my car!” she exclaimed as she waved towards her lavender 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille Convertible, “I only have four free seats...but if we sit in laps we can fit everybody!”

She dashed to her car and reached into the shadows to pull her cousins into her lap after shoving her keys in the ignition, freeing the passenger seat up. Her cousins were just shadows on her as she pulled a seatbelt over them all, but she still affixed the seatbelt gingerly.

Sally, Shawn, & Capt. Pennel
Cowritten by Khasinkonia, Imaria, and Talchyon

Although most of the students with powers were acutely aware of the dire straits they were in, there were two that had yet remained blissfully unaware of the circumstances they were in, namely Shawn and Sally. The latter was generally hard at work with extracurriculars, and, though aware of her powers, had never once thought to demonstrate them to anyone else, as of course, though there was empirical evidence to prove she had them, that evidence was surely something that in her head could mean anything from fame to detainment, neither of which sounded particularly appealing. In fact, her visit to Shawn's house had, as far as they were both aware, nothing at all to do with the purple gremlins that were swarming after many of Prefeton's superpowered teenagers.

It was their removal from the centre of things, both in relative to town, and in relative to the social circle of superpowered teens, that kept them blissfully unaware of the nightmare that was going on elsewhere.

Sally stood in the cold air outside of Shawn's house, wearing her favourite bright red puff jacket over a long-sleeve black tee with light peach corduroy pants tucked into black suede boots to keep her nice and warm. With a huff of condensation, she pulled her phone out of her pants pocket and dialled Shawn's number.

Picking up their phone, Shawn answered, "Hello Sally, you're a little late. I'm getting the door now, we'll need to keep the noise, my grandparents are sleeping." With a clack of the dead-bolt being undone, the dulled yellow walls being the first thing Sally sees of the room, followed by Shawn wearing a turtleneck, a skirt, and slippers. In the process of dyeing their hair. "Sorry for being in the middle of this, I dye my hair in secret, for err... quite personal reasons. It is also a good thing you brought the jacket, the heater needs to be serviced."

Sally nodded and smiled as she stepped in.

"No worries; my parents don't really like running up electric bills, so I'm used to being chilly," she replied cheerily, "I don't wanna keep you, so are you fine with chatting while you work on your dye?"

"I'm fine chatting while I do this, it is mostly set, it just needs to dry at this stage, do you want to sit in the living room, or head to my room for this interview. If we head to the living room we don't have to head up some stairs, but we're closer to my Grandparents if we go there," Shawn replied.

"Where are you most comfortable?" Sally enquired as she started fumbling with her left hand to pull a notepad out of her jacket pockets.

"I'll be more comfortable in the living room, I don't think we could get up the stairs quietly." Shawn replied while walking to the right and sitting down on a sofa.

Sally nodded as she sat down and set her phone on the cushion between them.

"Do you mind if I record?" she asked.

"No I do not" Shawn replied

"Excellent," Sally nodded as she opened up her phone. She said the date, and then crossed her legs.

"Alright, so I don't really know where to sta—" she began before a loud crash outside interrupted her.

"Sorry, do you have a dog or something?" she asked.

"I don't have a dog, my grandparents don't want the noise," As another crash interrupted their reply, "And I am not sure if any of the neighbors have dog, I've never heard one."

Sally looked concerned, and leaned in.

"There aren't bears on Prefeton, right?"

"I don't think so, but I've heard urban legends of similar things, gators, pigs, and some crypids. It could also be some raccoons." Shawn replied leaning forward about to get up.

"That doesn't make any sense..." Sally insisted as she shook her head and turned off the recording while standing up straight, "It sounds too bold to be a raccoon."

Her second statement was punctuated by what sounded like breaking glass elsewhere in the house.

Reacting to the glass shattering "That is really bold for a raccoon, I think that was the back porch door."

"Do you want me to help?" Sally asked, "Or should I wait here?"

"There's a gun safe upstairs, an old one with a padlock, which has never been locked since I've been in high school. Anything in it should be enough to stop it. Follow me so we don't get separated, it could be an intruder." Shawn whispered before springing up and heading back towards the door to go up the staircase.

Sally stayed close, but from the corner of her eye, spotted a glowing purple blur and turned like a whip. As if it was an innate reaction, she stomped on the tile floor while guarding her face, which promptly shattered and slammed the creature into the ceiling.

"We need to run," she said to Shawn.

"I've seen these before, get out the door!" Shawn yelled, "I'm sure my Grandparents heard the glass break and my yell, They'll be safe, Grandpa keeps a gun on him." Shawn said hurrying out the door.

Sally nodded quickly and followed Shawn out the door. She slammed her foot into the ground and sent a concrete pillar up from the pavement to block it shut.

"Hey Sally, before we go anywhere, I'm gonna check their bedroom. I'll try to be quiet." Sneaking over to the window, Shawn peered in. Noticing the room was empty with the lights on and the bed made. Upon linking back up with with Sally, Shawn said,"Ok, they aren't in their room, but the lights were on, where ever they are, I hope they're safe." Shawn said while quivering.

Sally delicated followed him, and then murmured, "What was that?"

In a hushed tone Shawn replied, "Oh, the creature, I don't know, I just remember seeing them during the dance a few weeks back, the one where the military claimed at the punch was spiked, that was a cover up, a bunch of kids of powers. And from what I witnessed, you have them too. I guess I'll show of my power, in part because if I don't I'll be shivering." And a few moments later, proceeded by a bright light the shrouded anyone's view of what was happening to him, Shawn's lower torso and legs had been transformed into a sheep's body and a pair of horns sprouted from the front of their forehead.

Sally's eyes went wide before she even attempted a response as she turned her head to avoid looking at the light. She nodded slowly and put her notepad, pen, and phone into her pockets and then clasped her hands together and looked back at him.

"I...well, that's interesting, I suppose. We can't be hallucinating if we saw the same thing, right?" she asked aloud.

"I guess your right on that one, and I don't think either of us drank punch on the way in." Shawn replied then paused for a bit "So... Uh, do you have any ideas on what to do now? I don't think my house is the best place to stay, should we head to yours?"

“I wasn’t at the ball,” Sally corrected, “But I suppose my house might be safer. But if these creatures attack humans, then would it be safer to be somewhere away from where most humans are concentrated?”

"So we're going to just run into the woods, but what if they come from the woods? It did come through my back door after all." Shawn replied, having troubles staying quiet in this state of mind.

“The military base,” Sally said with a snap of her finger, “They’re definitely safe. We should go there.”

"I mean, if these these creatures are just attacking everyone they see, the military is obviously on their way, so it couldn't hurt to meet them in the middle." Shawn replied to Sally.

Sally nodded, and waved in the direction of the road.

“Let’s go!” she exclaimed.

At that moment, a large van drove up on the road heading out of town. It was a dull green, and the driver looked rather serious. But glancing at the two youths by the roadside, it pulled over.

"Friends of yours?" Capt. Pennel asked from inside. When Rashaad nodded and he saw it in the rearview mirror, the older Pennel rolled the window down.

"Rashaad says you're friends of his. We're blowing this joint, and you can hop in if you want. But hurry and make up your minds, if you would."

After Sally and Shawn hopped in, they once more headed off.

For a moment, Maurice was frozen as Annie took off to her car. One might have expected that boy would have been saddened or infuriated by the seeming lack of reply to his confession. They would be proven wrong when, after a sudden shake his head, Maurice cracked a faint smile. He wiped his face with his hand as he faintly chuckled. He expected her to be stunned or shocked to a degree, and the spontaneity of the tone change was so very much like her. The damned theater girl, he confessed to himself, knew how to make a scene.

"Shotgun!" Maurice called as he hurried after he the best he could.

Tobias Scott

"You kids drive, I'll run on ahead," Tobias replied. Under normal circumstances that would have been a very odd thing to say, but these were far from normal circumstances and it pretty rapidly turned out that Tefford, Tobias, or whomever he was, could run fast as well. He was every bit as fast as Kristen was at the moment (though there was no telling where Kristen would get to once her powers were fully developed). If there was a power to do with body enhancement, the man seemed to have it to one degree or another. It was possibly where he'd got the codename 'Everyman'.

Chapter Four: Of the Devil’s Head in the Valley Perilous
(with some theme music!)

The island was not huge, there weren't too many roads and the two vehicles just about ran into each other as they approached the front gate to the military base as the dirt tracks leading up to the facility merged, both forced to screech to a halt to avoid a high-speed and potentially serious traffic accident. This might have drawn guards, but Tobias had arrived first and neither of the two guards who had been on duty looking like they were in a position to do anything. One was sprawled half way across the field behind the base while the second lay half-out of the guard hut, his head twisted a full 180 degrees around. Tobias had one of the guards' rifles in hand, which he levelled at Captain Pennel's van, looking like he would pull the trigger without a second thought, though before he had a chance to riddle the vehicle with bullets, Atalia stumbled out from the back door, "Principal Tefford! Wait!" she called, holding a hand up.

Tobias hesitated, "Bayer. What the hell are you doing here?"

"We're trying to get somewhere safe. Ask Captain Pennel."

The slight breeze they had felt at the beach had increased now, increased to a constant steady wind blowing out to sea. It wasn't a gale. Not yet, but it could well be if given another quarter of an hour. None of the class had been to the base before, though what lay beyond was probably not what they would have expected. There was just a single four storey tall building, just peeking up from above the surrounding treeline. It didn't look big enough for all the soldiers who seemed to appear out of the base at the drop of a hat. It didn't look like a bunker, a laboratory perhaps? Though that still didn't explain where all of the soldiers were coming from. There didn't seem room for them unless they lived underground somewhere, but why would you do that if you didn't need to?

"Get out of the van!" Tobias raised his voice, his eyes focussing on Captain Pennel, never lowering his weapon, "And don't make any sudden moves!" he instructed before adding, for Atalia and any of the others who were listening, "You can't trust the soldiers Bayer. If you want to live, you need to follow me."

"I know... he helped with the others," Atalia put in by way of explanation, "One of them had a snake in his head! Is that why we can't trust them?"

That drew a frown of confusion from Tobias, "That doesn't make sense," he growled, "Pennel. Who the hell are you?"

"I know... he helped with the others," Atalia put in by way of explanation, "One of them had a snake in his head! Is that why we can't trust them?"...

The older Pennel was on high alert after the other vehicle, a suburban, almost collided with them. He was able to maintain a decent control of his van without going into a ditch or ramming a tree off to the side. He had stopped the vehicle to a screeching halt as the gravel beneath him kicked off a cloud of thick dust. But before Pennel had time to reach for a weapon, the other driver was out of the other vehicle with a rifle, and ready to use it.

Cursing to himself, the older Pennel tried to figure out his next move. Years of training made him take a quick stock of the situation. Something was off. The figure in the suburban wasn't dressed in fatigues, but khakis and a button down shirt. The weapon was standard military-grade, however. And the armed assailant wasn't alone either. Capt. Pennel could see a number of others in that man's suburban. Youths, by the looks of them. Which meant one of two things - there was a kidnapper on the loose, or this man might be out to do the same thing he was. Get out of this hellhole. Only, Pennel was somewhat surprised that someone else was here on the same mission as he was, at the same time. He wasn't a believer in fate, or the stars lining up in just the right order to affect differences in lives. And yet, here they were, as if the neglected power of Fate had woken up long enough to make it known that they shouldn't ignore her.

When Atalia jumped out of the shotgun seat in Pennel's van, he barely got to hear the conversation. But it was enough. "That ain't no principal," Pennel whispered, more to himself than anyone else. He knew what he had to do. No longer trying to reach for a gun, Pennel thanked Atalia in his head for giving him a chance to talk. He rolled down his window, and exited the car slowly with his hands outside first to show he was unarmed. He got out, raising his hands and doing as he was told by the rifle bearer. Finally, he gave Pennel the one chance he needed - which might be the only chance he'd get.

Dyelli Beybi wrote:That drew a frown of confusion from Tobias, "That doesn't make sense," he growled, "Pennel. Who the hell are you?"

Capt. Pennel kept his arms raised and his voice steady. "I'm the man who's taking this group out of here. And I'm guessing that you're trying to do the same. Atalia and Rashaad know you. She calls you principal, but you are far beyond that. You are no principal - judging by how you handled those guards. You're not a soldier, either, but you are familiar with weapons. You have high school youths here - I'm guessing my group knows yours. Put all that together and that tells me you wouldn't be here unless you knew why we have to leave too and were trying to do the same."

By this time, Rashaad had lowered his chair out of the van using the slow lift, and the other youths had gotten out. It was Rashaad's electric, motorized chair, while his lighter manually-operated chair was folded up and attached to the back.

Capt. Pennel spoke again saying, "I may be wrong, but I don't think I am. But I got some stuff in the back of the van that will help us, and you too. It's unlocked. Feel free to take a look."

Allison Clark

Allison watched from the back seat of the car as Tefford confronted the man who had been driving the van. She was almost certain that it would end in a murder as Tefford had his weapon trained on the man. It seemed like he had no problem doing so as a few other bodies laid around the gate. She couldn't hear much of what was being said. Maybe they knew each other, but with Tefford still being a mystery who's to say what was actually true.

None of that mattered to Allison, however, as soon as Atalia stepped out of the car. Her eyes immediately lit up with joy as she spotted her best friend. She was glad that Atalia was still alive, fearing that all those who had stayed behind were dead. Moving Nikolai off her lap, Allison opened the door to the car and got out.

" Atalia?! Atalia, you're still alive!" Allison said as she quickly ran over to her BFF. She wrapped her arms around the shorter girl in a hug, lifting her effortlessly off the ground. She set Atalia gently on the ground, still grabbing her by the shoulders.

" I'm glad you're ok, Atalia. I thought you might have been dead." She quickly spotted Rashaad climbing out of the van. " And Rash! You made it! You two won't believe what happened at the beach." Allison said, smiling that her friends were ok. Before she could say anything else, her focus returned to the man they were with. He looked like military which immediately drew Allison on the defensive. She moved Atalia behind her, using her body to protect her just in case there was trouble from the man.

" Who the hell is this guy?" Allison asked Atalia, her fist clenched and her stance widening for a fight.

Ascot Rider

Ascot, having arrived at the base, presumably with Jack, listened to Tobias Scott and Capt. Pennel talk. It was clear from the start that the former didn't expect any allies among the other adults, and expected all the soldiers to be hostile. Atalia's words about the troopers they did encounter and the 'snake' in the head of one of those added another layer of confusion. But the young man didn't speak up, he didn't jump to conclusions. Instead, he continued to just stand there, observing the confrontation. There was now a throng of kids with them, a throng which seemed to be all who can be gathered to assault the military base. It wasn't what he wanted, it wasn't the unified band of powered kids he had dreamt of leading, the band of kids whom he wanted to pool their knowledge and resources under his aegis.

He chuckled at how foolish he had been earlier, then whispered to himself, "As if I had an aegis to protect others with."

Once Harper and Cecil walked out of the car, the young man prepared to say something to the two, anything. "Harper, Cecil. I know I hurt the both of you. I'm sorry." Then to Atalia and Rashaad, "Atalia, Rashaad, there's a wall around this entire town and breaking it leads to space. The military base is supposedly a way out of whatever Preferton seems to be."

A side glance at Allison, before Ascot said as calmly as he can, "This is Rashaad's father. It seems he's free of whatever influence the other 'unpowered' are under."

Eren Fritz

Eren Fritz, meanwhile, was already going behind the van and trying to open the back door or waiting for it to open up automatically. If they didn't, he'd wait for either Tefford or Captain Pennel to reveal the rear's contents. He was content to lazily wait while this business solved itself, but he had one hand on his borrowed revolver's safety, just in case he had to defend the Captain.from either Allison or Tefford. As for Ascot, the younger teen's words would have been unbelievable if he himself hadn't dealt with brain worms just earlier today, so one had to accept the wannabe hero's words as truth.

A yawn escaped his lips as he waited for the order to break in. Then to Harper, he said in as protective a tone as possible, "Harper, stay close behind me."

He didn't bother responding. He didn't believe in that age old rule "don't say anything if you don't have anything nice to say", but there was no point in antagonizing his mildly insane ex. In his head was a cavalcade of "fuck offs" and various equivalents, and he wanted to say all of them, to cut ties with the boy whose two skills seemed to be acting like his diet was pure mercury and getting on his nerves, but he couldn't. He just couldn't.

Jack was a standard teen in that he didn't quite like new situations. He in fact had a deep discomfort outside of his comfort zone, and now the guy who had dragged him out of there, apparently to his benefit, Tefford, was on edge, and that made a deep discomfort deeper. He ignored the cheerful reunions, though he took a second to give Harper a glance. He was glad the dude was alright, with the way he'd dissapeared. Instead, he eyed the new guy, Pennel, and the fact that he was a soldier meant Jack didn't like him right off the bat. Then he noticed the bodies.

So apparently their benefactor was okay snapping necks. He could only hope it was something like self defense, but he stood a little further away from Tefford all the same. Absent mindedly and perhaps nervously, he phased his fingers, one by one, mostly watching the situation, waiting for it to play out. He knew something was brewing, be it break in or brawl, and he was ready for the former, ready to run from the latter.

Nikolai stared towards the four story structure that was nestled nice and clean in the dark of night, taking in its drab and spartan architecture as the one place that led out of this strange world that they had believed to be their home, if it was a world to begin with. The breeze had been growing stronger; that meant the hole that had been initially sealed with his frost powers had grown, and the ice covering the whole section of concrete wall had probably already completely melted. Given by the rate of expansion and the growth of wind strength over the last few minutes, they didn't have long before the vacuum of space sucked out all of the air in these dome, and everyone in it.

Tefford had been very fast, faster than Annie's car, and by the time they had arrived on the grounds of the military base, the corpses of two guards were already lying there. It was apparent that their former principal had unnatural physical strength, agility, and stamina, if his running ahead of a car was of any indication. Either way, this will be a break in soon.

All the while, there was a voice in the back of his head. One that chuckled at every misfortune, laughed at the sight of the dead, and mocked him at every turn. It was a cruel thing. It kept him up at night. Tired him out by making his sleep cut short. But now... it had gone silent. Silence, for once, came into the boy's mind when he saw just who had crossed paths with him and the others. Harper, Atalia, and a bunch more... and Pennel Sr. Rashaad's dad.

Apprently, Teff... no, Tobias was not a fan.

That drew a frown of confusion from Tobias, "That doesn't make sense," he growled, "Pennel. Who the hell are you?"

"Another sleeper...?, Nikolai thought as he ran the scenario through his head. Given that they were apparently going for the same place, and since Pennel Sr. had his own suspicions that Tobias had the same goals as him, that made the most sense. And now... some soldiers apparently had worms in their heads. "So is she saying that at least some soldiers have neural parasites that control their actions like a pilot puppets a drone... drones... makes sense."

Either way, Allison appeared to be on edge, and Ascot was there to tell her to calm her down. Nikolai placed a hand on the girl's shoulder and shook his head; a sign to stand down.

At the meantime, Nikita had been watching closely, sadly musing on how his brother seemed to have a dark premonition lately. He could always say that everything was going to be alright, but that would be a lie. In less than an hour, this whole place will get sucked into space, and almost everything that they had known and loved will be cast into the void. He had been more hopeful about the whole thing when they were supposedly headed out towards the mainland, but now, there was no mainland. Just a lonely dome in the middle of space, an existence that has been a counterfeit all this time. Nothing seemed to be fit into the bill of reality anymore other than the continual urge to flee, to survive. And they were, according to Tobias, going in a ship.

Worst dream ever, if it was one.

Still, the silver lining was, the friends that had remained behind when the rest of them tried to sail away to the mainland were alive and well. With a slight smile on his face, he watched as they all came out, never mind that Tobias and Rashaad's dad seemed to be at a little bit at odds.

"What do you have back in there, exactly, Mr. Penell?", Nikita asked as he glanced towards the van. Given that this was a military man, he probably had a stash of guns in there. He needed some of those, as his powers had no offensive application whatsoever, and his brother can't just always be the one keeping him protected, nor could Erika as anything could happen while they were breaking in. "If those are guns I'd like to have some just for self defense..."

Leo Walker, Military Base
Leo had been along for the ride for quite some time, not really sure what to say about the whole situation. Throughout the entire journey from Capt. Pennel’s house till now he had been particularly silent, keeping to himself in order to listen and learn about their situation. It wasn’t looking too great right now, especially with the principal pointing a gun at the man who had saved them not long ago.

So many things had happened recently that Leo was almost not surprised at the fact that his principal wouldn’t bat an eye about killing people that got in his way, something that didn’t bode well for Capt. Pennel if the situation ended up turning sour.

There were several students with the principal as well, all of which he had known of before hand, but had never actually interacted with them too much. It was odd, seeing so many more people in the same boat as himself. Maybe he wasn’t as alone as he thought he was. If he could make friends with the students with the principal as well then, through either Stockholm Syndrome or genuine compatibility he would at least have new friends to know and learn about. Assuming they made it out of this situation alive, anyway.

Leo made his way around to the back of the van slowly and smoothly, just in case the principals trigger finger was a little itchy towards even his own students. He then waited on either the principal or Capt. Pennel to open up the back and reveal what useful tool they had hidden back there.

Maurice Williamson

Unlike the others, Maurice found the drive to be pleasant, until they nearly collided with Pennel's van. It was a very appreciated calm before the storm, especially since the wind had picked up and a part of him knew that it was going to be do or die from here on out. Of course, the fact that he had not so subtly stole glances at Annie served as a brief distraction, even if he knew something was going on given the space hole. Maurice had been to the mainland and Annie had grown up in Louisiana, but it was impossible for them to take the boat out. Even if it was all fake, it's not like he had any better alternative to believe at the moment.

Then things played out, quickly. Tobias and Mr. Pennel bringing two different groups and fighting, more talks of sleepers and drones, something useful in the van, and all of it was pointless as the oxygen was slowly getting vented from whatever they were in. He tried his damned hardest to avoid noticing the bodies as he awkwardly worked his way to Tobias.

"We need to get moving, Everyman" he whispered to Tobias. "And if he wanted to do something to us, he wouldn't have gathered a bunch of empowered kids when he could have taken them individually."

Glancing over to the captain and his gun for a second, he gulped before continuing, "We don't need to trust him fully. You take the lead through the base, or laboratory, or whatever, and keep an eye on him. He's one man with a rifle and we've all got powers, and, whatever those powers are, that stacks the odds in our favor."

Tobias Scott

Tobias paused for a long moment then lowered his weapon. He turned to Maurice, "You were in contact with Newton weren't you? Do you know what they're up to? Do we need to signal for extraction?"

He left enough time for a response before turning to the group as a whole, explaining the situation as he saw it, "The only reason we haven't been caught yet is because they'll be scouring the town right now looking for us. Powers or not, once they realise we are here, we don't stand a chance. That being said, there will be guards on the doors to the building. Anywhere from two to six. Do any of you have any powers that will make you harder to hit?" he asked, "If you do, you're in Team A. Your job is to distract the guards. Get their attention and hold it. If you can lure them right away from the door without needing to fight, that's perfect. If you don't think you can do that, Team B will jump the guards while they are looking the other way. Once we are inside, you will need to follow me or Pennel. If I'm right about him," he glanced at Captain Pennel, "he'll be able to read the base signs, as can I. The rest of you won't. We'll try to get to a computer terminal and get as much information about this place as we can, then we'll need to get to the dock to get out of here. For real this time."

He paused, turning his stern gaze on each of the teenagers under his care in turn as if hoping he could read their intentions on their faces, "Does anyone have any skills they think can assist at any point?" he asked.

Atalia was the first to raise her hand, "I can run fast and turn invisible. Sort of. If I'm standing still," she offered.

"You're in Team A," Tefford informed her, "Anyone else?"

Maurice frowned for a second as he recalled what Newton has last told him.

"Maurice, I'm hoping you can hear me. Whatever you are doing, stop it now. You need to leave the town right now or you and everyone else in Prefeton is going to die before the day is over. You need to find the route out. It will be somewhere you aren't supposed to go. People will mysteriously appear and disappear there. You need to think fast and act faster as you won't get another shot at this. We'll try to meet you on the other side, but until then this is the last you'll hear from me. Godspeed, Major Tom."

"The last thing she told me was that we needed to get out, things were going to get weird, and that she and the Captain would try to meet us on the other side of whatever exit we need to take to escape," he answered before Tobias turned to the group. "I'm sorry, but I don't know how contact them. They've only contacted me."

He waited for Tefford to finish before speaking up once again. "I'm just a walking radio set, but I can't be jammed as far as I'm aware. No use in a fight, but I can keep the teams connected." Maurice knew a bit about most of the others, but it was far from perfect information so he opted to stay quiet. He was keen on correcting the situation and would listen carefully when the others spoke about their powers.

Nikolai raised a hand at Tefford's query for their abilities, a little bit of cold mist discharging from his palm in the process. "I'm cryokinetic. I could freeze things and make ice, though not a whole lot at once. The ice I do make, however, is as strong as metal. Bronze, I think. I also happen to be able to lower the temperature around me... but I suppose that last part isn't helpful in this situation." By this time, of course, everyone else would have already noticed that the air around him was by far chiller, indicating a limited form of atmokinesis.

"If it helps with the whole computer terminal thing,", Nikita in turn began as he looked straight at their former principal. "I have the ability to access a computer's files and network by merely touching it, thereby gaining all the knowledge inside. If there's encryption, I would need a little bit of time to crack it..."

Connor, in silence up to now, finally spoke up," I can see people's aura and see through walls." Though that will probably be useful once we are inside of the base. I can also launch aura projectile at people". Connor scratched his head, nervously, "Not sure exactly how much damage it does, but I know it does hurt."

So now is the time. They are going to invade the military base and with more people who have powers. Even Rashaad's father is joining them to get everyone out. That is a surprise, and this is it. Connor took a deep breath as he readied himself to be in either team. No mistakes here and Connor could only hope that he is ready for this. There is no choice really though. It is do or literally die or worse in this case. Well, maybe they might find some answers in the base if not a way out of... whatever in this place is. Before anyone realizes there are here that is and things become complicated.

Allison, at the request of both Ascot and Nikolai, lowered her guard. She seemed to be a lot calmer now, but still remained on her toes. There was no telling if Pennel was not under some kind of influence. He was still military and therefore Allison did not trust him.

The time had come for the group to split up into teams and assault the military base. Tefford had told them that each team was going to have a particular task when it came to dealing with the guards. Allison assumed that this plan would give them a better chance at survival when they divided the guard's attention. Each of the group was going to be divided based on their powers, something that Tefford was going to decided. Allison waited until it was her turn to tell them of her powers.

" Most of you probably already that I have super strength. It also seems that my body has become more dense, making it resistant to physical damage. " Allison added, placing her hands into her jacket pockets. " Worse comes to worse, I can protect someone from getting hurt. "

Jack Brekker

A plan. A coherent plan. That put a lot of wind in Jack’s sails, knowing there was some idea of what needed done, how they were gonna get out of here. Granted, it was rudimentary, and would almost certainly go wrong, but that seemed to be the name of the game, lately.

Leo waited patiently while the others spoke up. His powers seemed to be far more oriented to strictly fighting than all the other students, save for a few who were in a similar boat to himself. Leo had never actually taken a shot at trying to describe his particular abilities, so after fumbling around with words in his brain for a little bit he finally mustered up what he viewed as the most accurate representation of his powers.

“I can conjure various forms of knives, such as daggers, butter knives, throwing knives, you name it. They can “cut” through everything they can physically touch, but they can’t get too far away from me or they disappear. I can also teleport in a very unorthodox way. I can manage to take a couple of people with me to where I end up at, but it’s not a very pleasant experience for people that aren’t used to it. I’m particularly suited to fighting and, when taking into account my powers, assassination, should the need arise.”

It was only after he finished talking that he realized: Wow. That was really dark. It is a do or die situation though right? So maybe it’s okay to say that? Leo looked around with a concerned look on his face as he was thinking. I really hope that nobody thinks I’m just a murder crazed idiot.

Rosalind Llywelyn

As each person spoke up, Rosie deflated a little bit more. Had everyone really gotten powers except her? She'd tried so many things and nothing had worked, there must be something she wasn't thinking of! She seriously doubted the prospect of anything being duplicated since so far no one had mentioned any repeats, so she was running out of ideas. Until she went to the beach she'd not known anything about any of this, and she kind of wished she never had now; everyone else was special and either she was a very late bloomer or she was just a normal, boring person. It wasn't any different than she was not more than two hours ago but now it was crushingly disappointing.

She shook her head and held it high again. When the time was right, it would come through. It always happened that way in the movies: everything looks bleak and everyone is down, until the person who had up-to-that-point been weak and uninteresting suddenly proved themselves to be the strongest of them all and earned everyone's respect with their awesome raw power. She just had to wait for people to get in dire straights so she could shine with the babyface fire.

Rei Fujiwara

With things coming to a head, and the other group of teens showing up lead by Rashaad's father, it seemed they had some extra manpower for this mission to break out of ...whatever Prefeton was. If nothing else, it could be said that it probably increased his odds of survival. Of course, too many cooks could spoil the broth. it was certainly possible that with more people involved, more mistakes could be made. At least if things go wrong, there'll be a few extra distractions for anything that happens to show up to kill us. It was quite a cynical way of thinking, and it was tinged with a bit of sarcasm. At the end of the day, as far as he saw it, it wasn't worth it placing too much trust on others. Certainly, there could be situations where your life depended on others, and it was all out of your hands, but that still didn't quite count as blindly placing one's faith in others. It was simply a matter of necessity, and it was that mindset that Rei tended to default to. It was best not to grow complacent, and to remember, whether on your own or in a group, survival was paramount. It was all very well to mess around and be bothered about the minutae regarding relationships, trust and so on, in safer circumstances, but reality didn't care about such trivialities. Whatever allowed one to survive in the end, be it through self-reliance, cooperation, whatever, anything went, as far as Rei was concerned. In the past few months, he had begun shifting his mindset to that of one focusing simply on avoiding trouble and enjoying himself, but it seemed fate didn't permit such a lax attitude.

As the others brought up their powers at Tobias' request, Rei waited for a good point to inject himself. Once it came, he spoke up. "I have invisibility, teleportation and the the ability to emit a flash that can temporarily blind people."
Formerly Videssos. Just a femboy-obsessed degenerate. Also interested in history, mythology, fantasy, science fiction, metal and some other stuff.
A little bird told me, "Go, Go! Socialise! Talk to those fine people! And then, KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! Plunge your knife into their throats when they ain't lookin', and then burn 'em to the ground!"
Well that's silly, isn't it?
