Reykjavik, Iceland/July 16th, 2496/"The Flare"
Iceland; Once the center for Geothermal Energy centuries ago, now a home for the forsaken, the poverty stricken, and the exile, long forgotten by the Starbound Elite. People here live in squalor, doing all they can to survive, and life is Hell. Gangs are prevalent, corruption is blatant, and crime is life, led by the "Jarls", who hold a stranglehold over this scrapyard of a country. Life is Hell, and that was before "The Flare".
Sirens sounded like Revelation's Horns. There was mass confusion and hysteria, and no one knew what was going on, or what to do. Some rioted, some turned to their faith, some just went to the highest rooftops, and watched the show. They waited for a spectacle, and when 8 minutes passed, they got one.
"The Flare" came, and it burned the sky. Lightning struck the scraps, and everything exploded:
Cybernetics? Electrified their hosts, and exploded like bombs.
Robots? Turned into giant shrapnel grenades.
The trees? Lit up like logs in a fire.
"The Flare" destroyed all it passed, and as soon as it came, it left. Reykjavik was left a smoldering pile of trash, but honestly, not much changed. Felt like just any other day. At least, until we learned what it truly destroyed. The internet... disappeared. The non-stop government propaganda... finally ceased. All electronics... dead. We felt isolated, stranded, and uncertain. What happened to the outside world, we have no clue, but right now? Iceland stands alone.

It is the eighteenth anniversary of “Flare’s Day”, and much has changed in Iceland....

Hello! Thanks for reading my intro to The Homelands, a game Powered by the Apocalypse! If you’ve ever played Apocalypse World, you’ll get used to this game pretty quickly, but to the rest of you? I honestly think you’ll love this game once you’ve gotten the hang of it. To see all the info you’ll need to know, go to my Discord I created for this game! All the info’s right there.
But, to summarize this game, it is a collaborative Nation building RP, with everything needed to flesh out Post-Apocalyptic Iceland in the faction handbooks. Once enough people have joined and made their factions, we can build this apocalyptic world, and get to playing! Speaking of playing....
I’d say the game switches between two styles of play. You have Faction play, which is like a turned based strategy game like Civilization, and an RPG, like you’d see in Final Fantasy. This game is epic in its scope of play, letting you play as a great Kingdom, and a mighty hero at once! I personally can’t wait to see what scenarios you guys get yourself into, and I especially can’t wait to join in the fun! Thanks for reading, and let us make this apocalypse a legendary one!
