Skills: Can make a mean batch of cookies, is good at checkers.
Weaknesses: Incredibly vain, can not comprehend any written language.
Phase One Power: Incomprehensibility (level 1): Axourix is incapable of being described by any living being and can even drive unintelligent animals mad.

Other Eye (level 1): Axourix is capable of placing up to three eyes on any surface as long as it is not living this will allow him to view anything the
eyes see in monochrome

Phase Two Powers: Incomprehensibility (level 2): Axourix is incapable of being described by any living being his presence can now even drive the more unintelligent
humans mad, and if he were to exert this power he could cause those without a strong will to go insane.

Other Eye (level 2): Axourix can now have five eyes at the same time and is now capable of placing them on anyone or anything with a weak will
if placed on a living being Axourix can now see through there eyes if the entity the eye is attached to is not killed or remains
under the effects of the eye for more than a year, they will die unless Axourix chooses to retract the eye.

lighted area.

Background:
Personality: vein, self-centered, and a bit dumb
Backstory: Axourix was born, and was then immediately thrown into a dumpster due to the horror of his parents. He was then taken in by a small cult believing him
to be the old god Axourix reborn. He was then raised there sixteen years and named Axourix, during this time the cult granted him sacrifices and adorned
him with much praise until he was deemed ready and sent to the local highschool with a mask and hooded robes as to appear comprehensible

You're only allowed a single level 1 power at phase 1. Also, everyone only recently gained powers, nobody was born with them.

Understood. Will fix later.

No need to be rushing now. OP said we're gonna take this one slow, as it's important.

As I said on the Discord, this is a very large interaction, there are a lot of people involved in it so do not try to rush it.

I also haven't posted for a few days, which I'm aware I need to do. Unfortunately I have been, professionally, run ragged for the last few days. Which brings me to my other point. On top of what I've said about it being a big scene, there are a lot of extra pressures on people at the current time - professional, personal, financial etc. Not everyone may be able to post as regularly as they would like to. I'd ask that everyone please try to be understanding of that.

Character Description
    Name: Cassian Wilson
    Gender: Male
    Age: 17
Appearance: standing at 5'9 with his most obvious features being bright green eyes with an iris that is a fiery orange/yellow before the black center. He has a strong jawline, white skinned with brown hair. He has a certain look to his face, a somewhat stereotypical hero's look, he also wears wears a pair of rimmed glasses as his normal eyesight is somewhat poor. Clothing: Normally he wears green t-shirts or hooded sweatshirts with blue or black jeans and black converse. He wears a small silver ring with an emblem of a coiled serpent on his left middle finger.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: Listening, he is good at talking to people(even if he is a bit of an introvert) and he is selfless in this aspect. When he talks to those around them he values what they say, secondly he is quite calm even in dangerous situations, he has a cool head about him, even if he is unsure about what's happening, he seems to be able to take a step back and breath. He is also an athlete and plays football and wrestling at Prefeton High.
Weaknesses: If he is already focused on one task, sometimes he can lose sight of what's going on around him, this sometimes has people saying his name a few times to get his attention.
Phase One Power: Phase 1(Touch of Nidhogg): He gains thermal vision and his body up to his neck becomes covered in scale-like armor which is similar to leather armor in durability, This duration is 30 minutes before exhaustion sets in.
Phase Two Powers: Phase 2(Breath of Nidhogg): in addition to his phase 1 abilities he becomes cold blooded and is able to blow a poisonous choking cloud from his lips(range is 10 feet) and the duration of his abilities in up to 1 hour (thermal vision becomes at will/indefinite)
Phase Three Powers: phase 3(Spawn of Nidhogg): Cassian transforms into a huge snake that is almost twice the size of a schoolbus, he can also unleash blasts of his poisonous choking clouds from his jaws up to 30 feet. He is in effect a large beast, while very durable, can be killed or hurt by gunfire(though due to his size and scales he is highly resistant to pistol calibers and partially resistant to rifle rounds(5.56), hunting rounds and above can kill him with enough fire, he can remain this way indefinatley however he must consume enough food due to his size.

Background:
Personality: A likeable and sometimes quiet person, Cassian tends to keep to himself only because he has personal interests in whatever he is doing, but when he is social he has no issues becoming part of the group, though he tends to take a more passive approach, standing on the side and chirping in when neccessary/needed or feels the need too. Sometimes he will mess with people making odd faces in situations to show surprise or amusement and affection.
Backstory: Cassian moved to Prefeton after some families issues between his parents. Now he stays with his father in what could be called the more "poorer" area of Prefeton in a small house. His father is a retired man who served in the military when he was younger before becoming a construction worker. He has a younger brother, Ken, at the school who is far more outgoing, though, they normally only hangout when they are playing sports, working out or if they are home hanging out. He discovered his powers one night when his brother went missing in the local woods and was worried for him, his body changed in the darkness and he was able to see where his brother was, but it turned out he was just at a bonfire in the woods, still, he now knows he is different.

This isn't quite set out according to the way I have asked people to do it. Phase one is overpowered, but given that you will be going straight into phase two, I have rewritten it below to summarise how I think this works and add in points. It looks alright to me, though I am going to ask one of our fearless auditors to take a look at this. I think the below is how the powers would functionally work:

Phase 2: lvl 1 poison breath
lvl 1 scale armour
lvl 1 thermal vision

Phase 3: lvl 3 snake transformation
lvl 1 poison breath
lvl 1 scale armour
lvl 1 thermal vision

'One question though... When you say blow a poisonous choking cloud from his lips(range is 10 feet) and the duration of his abilities in up to 1 hour' do you mean the poisonous gas stops being poisonous after an hour? I would recommend taking out the reference to range and duration of a chemical cloud as this would be hugely affected by environmental factors: for instance, if you tried blowing out a cloud into an oncoming gale you'd probably end up with the gas coming back in your face then harmlessly diffusing into the atmosphere pretty quickly, whereas if you did it in a basement with no ventilation it might linger for quite a long time.

I would say if you really wanted to, you could probably consolidate the scale armour, the thermal vision, and the snake transformation into something to the effect of "Serpentine Physiology"
Tier 1 would be very basic, I would say Serpentine Physiology would be either thermal vision/thermal pits like rattlesnakes and scattered scales around the body(Not armour, just random scale patches here and there) or more scales and no thermal vision
Tier 2 would then be
L2 Thermal vision + scale armour, as Dyelli outlined
L1 Poison breath
Then for Tier 3, you leave serpentine physiology at level 2, then have level 2 snake transformation, and keep the level 1 poison breath

I would say either of these options are comparable, but it really depends on how you word it.

A few other details regarding the snake transformation:
I would say his being twice the size of a schoolbus is simply too big for a variety of reasons. I would say the absolute largest reasonable size would be that of Titanoboa, which is the largest snake known to have ever existed.
Image

Still plenty big, but also not so large that it becomes problematic.

Note what Dyelli said about ranging with gas. We prefer not to use too much in the way of numbers around here, so it would be better to compare it to something concrete. Would the gas release behave like a fog machine? Like the mist function on a hose? Think about comparing to something.

Finally, small note for the bio, just please be aware that Prefeton is generally significantly wealthier than the average for a town, so its "poorer" area is still solidly middle class.

That's all, best wishes!

I might expand more on the backstory but the important details are done. (I also have to finish reading the IC)

Character Description

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: Excels academically, possibly in the running for valedictorian or salutatorian. Good at playing video games.
Weaknesses: Not great at making friends. Psionics are exhausting to use, and the more Reagan uses them the more tired she becomes. All of her offensive powers rely on being able to see the target, so anyone out of view couldn't be affected. Certain metals can also insulate against the attacks.

Phase One Power: Psionics - Synaptic Static (L1): A basic psionic attack. Reagan reaches extends her mind into someone else's, before quickly withdrawing. Signals in the brain are temporarily scrambled, causing the target to be momentarily stunned, often followed by confusion and a headache. Only a single person can be targeted at a time.

Phase Two Powers: Psionics - Synaptic Shock (L2): A more potent psionic intrusion. The sudden influx of energy into a target's mind is felt as a sourceless scream that echoes in their head. The scream can last as long as Reagan keeps concentrating on it, but it's very energy-intensive and holding it very long would exhaust her. The energy can be spread across up to four people.

Psychokinesis - Unseen Assistant (L1): Energy from the mind can start interacting with objects. Reagan can push, pull, lift, or throw objects weighing up to 50 pounds just by concentrating on them and focusing her mind.

Phase Three Powers: Psionics - Synaptic Shutdown (L3): The ultimate evolution of offensive psionics. A powerful blast of concentrated energy overrides every neuron in the target's brain and completely disables them. The massive amount of energy can be spread across only a few people.

Psychokinesis - Mental Deflection (L2): Incoming objects can now be stopped before impact. No one wants to be shot, unfortunately most people can't do too much about it. Reagan has found a way that works for emergencies, but not for very long. She's created a barrier of invisible psychic energy around her entire body that can deflect several small projectiles, or lessen the brunt of a large one until it's broken. It can be reformed, but it does have an upkeep cost that could limit use of other powers if it was continually built.

ESP - Neuron Sense (L1): A brain is just a loose collection of electrical charges running through meat. After interacting with people's minds so often, Reagan can detect when one is nearby. She can sense the presence of a person within 30 feet of her, unless their mind is insulated against it. All she knows is their relative position and distance from her, as she was never able to read thoughts.

Background:
Personality: Reagan is anti-social, frequently to the point of anxiety. She doesn't enjoy face-to-face conversations with people, often contributing very little if at all to discussions. She'd much rather stay in her room with the door locked than be in any large group settings. When forced into a social setting, this anxiety can present itself as being short and sarcastic as a defense mechanism, which possibly seen as rudeness or arrogance given her academic excellence.

Backstory: Reagan Ness is one of the more recent arrivals to Prefeton, her mother having transferred to the military base a couple of years ago. The military kept the two of them moving around a lot, never really giving Reagan a chance to make many friends—not that she'd make many friends if she stayed in one place for fifty years. By now they've been on the island longer than most places they lived, and there wasn't much indication that they'd be moving again, though Reagan doesn't too much about the situation on base. She's not particularly interested either, because she holds a deep-seated grudge against the military for taking all of her mother's time and making them transfer so much. She never speaks about her father, to the point where it's not entirely certain that she even knows about him, her mother is the only family member she mentions.

Reagan spends much of her time in her room, either studying for classes or reading on her own. When she isn't deep into a book, she can sometimes be found online playing video games but rarely actually interacting with people on voice chat. The few times she does try, it's met with the expected reaction for a girl on a console game, further reinforcing her silence.

She first began noticing strange occurrences around her a few weeks ago, when people that tried to talk to her seemed to become disoriented or get a headache when she didn't want to talk. After a few instances, she realized that she was the source of the issue, and that somehow her mind was weaponizing her anxiety and sending out waves of energy to people. She practiced a little on unsuspecting people at school, and stopped when she had figured out how to avoid accidentally targeting people at random.

Cool, looks good to me. As we discussed, feel free to flesh the backstory out a bit later on.

Since everyone else is at Stage 2 with the powers feel free to skip over the phase 1 bit if you want to, or not if you don't.

Now we just need to brainstorm a good intro!

Reagan spends much of her time in her room, either studying for classes or reading on her own. When she isn't deep into a book, she can sometimes be found online playing video games but rarely actually interacting with people on voice chat.

Cool, looks good to me. As we discussed, feel free to flesh the backstory out a bit later on.

Since everyone else is at Stage 2 with the powers feel free to skip over the phase 1 bit if you want to, or not if you don't.

Now we just need to brainstorm a good intro!

luckily it's very understandable why the introvert wouldn't be at a party or a dance. As for introductions, yes that will need workshopped

This is my Deleted Post, preserved here for posterity - This is no longer canon:

Ascot Rider

“Hello, everyone,” Ascot said in a lower voice than before, one devoid of his usual enthusiasm and arrogance. He tried to retain some measure of self-awareness, and to analyze both his own emotional state and the others’. And what he found was the fact that that they might - Might - Be less well-equipped for whatever may come in the future than they were right now. A meeting like this, so soon? It’d thin people’s patience, it’d make them more prone to betraying each other, it’d provoke tempers and lead to nothing useful… Unless Maurice knew something they didn’t.

So Ascot turned towards the guy in question, the one who had gathered them all for this meeting, and said, “You gathered us here, Maurice - I presume you’ve found something out?”

Leaves audibly rustled, then, as Kalos arrived, the look on the young man’s face spelling arrogance more intense than Ascot’s own. In the days following the dance, and even the months before, Ascot had heard rumors about the Argyris boy, about how he was a crazy, arrogant mess who needed to be medicated lest he have delusions of being a ‘Wizard’. And with him possibly developing powers, it was clear that he saw said powers with the wrong ‘lens’, a mystically-inclined paradigm of seeing the world instead of the scientific or psuedo-scientific way Ascot preferred. Perfect.

Taking out a small loaf of bread from his backpack, Ascot searched for a sharp object, finding a surprisingly clean and pristine - He hoped - Clothespin. Pricking his thumb with it, he spread the blood from the small wound that resulted onto the loaf, knowing full well that Kristen and others would see it for the Pagan-esque rite that it was, even though Ascot didn’t actually believe in Pagan/Polytheist Gods and Goddesses - This was purely a cynical ploy to have the long-haired short young man as his new boyfriend, which in turn was to defang the obvious competition he presented and to gain a useful partner/pawn.

The problem was that Ascot did not want a pawn - He merely felt he needed one. He also did not want to do a cynical ploy - He just thought it was necessary. And despite the contempt he felt for Kalos’ obvious desire to lead the group and thus compete with him (and Maurice, the only more qualified candidate than him), Ascot saw deep inside that he did not have the heart to manipulate the poor kid. But he needed to find a way to get his way, Ascot needed to find a way to get what he wanted.

Then it came to him, he did not need to manipulate at all. He had not manipulated Jack at all, right? Ascot had maintained sincere feelings for the other boy till the end!

So there was another way. Walking towards Kalos, trying to show no intent to defer or provoke, Ascot faced the ‘Wizard Wannabe’ and presented the loaf of bread covered with his thumb’s blood to him, saying, “My intentions for presenting this bread and my life-blood to you were cynical, self-interested. I intended to propose a pact with you in order to drag you from the road to power and bring myself up in turn. In clearer terms, I intended to ask you for a romantic relationship so I can use you.”

A pause. “But I cannot bring myself to be dishonest, even as the differences between my ‘scientific paradigm’ and your ‘mystic perspective’ on the world continue to stand between us. And by that, I offer this bread, which has my life-blood on it, to you sincerely. I genuinely, despite my honest belief that you show arrogance and pride alongside great talent, wish to offer you my body, my heart, and my soul in betrothal, to pledge myself in future marriage to you as long as you offer the same pledge to me. Give yourself to me, let all competition and desire for primacy between us fade, and I will give myself to you. Be mine and I will be yours’, Kalos Argyis...”

Hello everyone! If it's not too late I'd like to participate in this:

Edit 2: Totally mixed up Maurice's/Bingellia's telepathic abilities with something else. Sorry 'bout that. Re-edited secondary powers.

Character Description
    Name: Colin Kocsh
    Gender: Male
    Age: 14
    Appearance:
    Image

Strengths and Weaknesses

Skills Well, other than going off on tangents about how the powers that be are constantly hiding the existential truth of UFO’s and other extraterrestrial phenomenon from the common man, he really likes fishing. To Colin, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of emerging victorious in a fierce battle of willpower and patience against the vicious beasts of the seas. Or rather, streams in the case of Preferton.

Weaknesses: Devoting one’s time to uncovering the truth hidden by the Government is not easy. Nor is it particularly productive. Because Colin’s obsessed over finding real UFOs he’s never really paid attention in his studies which can make him seem a bit simple. He’s also proven to be easily manipulated when someone uses his conspiracy passions against him.

    Phase One Power:
Green Thumb LV1 – Colin can will plants and fungi to grow from seed or spore near instantaneously. Additionally, he can also reinvigorate dying plants with energy sprouting them into a healthy state. However this ability is limited to small plants and mushrooms, and only if seeds or spore are present in compatible soil.

Phase Two Powers: Green Thumb, LV2 – Colin has managed to adapt his ability to the point he can now grow larger plant life such as bushes, ferns, and vines. Additionally, Colin can manipulate the growth of these plants in unnatural ways, such as using vines as an extension of his own limbs or encasing himself in hardened plant matter acting as a shield. However these plants are still subject to compatible areas and are only effective outside, making his powers near useless inside buildings or areas lacking any compatible soil for plants to take root.

Pollenpathy LV1 – Collin can release harmless pollen into to the air which will attract nearby insects. Once the insects consume the pollen they'll temporarily form a bond with Collin allowing him to manipulate said insects to follow simple commands such as swarming a target or using antennae to vaguely direct him to an object.

Phase Three Powers: Green Thumb LV3 – Colin has mastered his abilities which have also evolved within him. Colin can grow and manipulate plant life regardless of size even capable of manipulating entire trees to his will. He can also conjure smaller plants using his own body as a base, allowing him to project vines and other plant life from his hands in an offensive manner. This now allows him to use his abilities anywhere.

Pollenpathy LV2 –The pollen has evolved and now forges a stronger bond between Colin and affected insects. This allows him to manipulate insects in more advanced ways; such as seeing through the vision of said insects for a short time, or directing a small swarm of insects to open simple locks and other complex tasks.

Background:
Personality: Colin is a boy of few passions and fewer friends. He’s not particularly shy or anti-social, it’s just, people aren’t as passionate about conspiracies as he is. Afterall, week after week of how airplane contrails, which apparently contain memory wiping agents, are linked to a massive government cover-up of extraterrestrial spacecrafts can become quite tiresome to listen to. Even if he’s managed to find evidence on some obscure conspiracy forum online that may or may not have already been disproven.

It’s situations like these which have caused Colin to become something of an outcast to the rest of his peers. Though never one to be particularly bothered by this Colin can be a friendly and easy person to get along with, if not a little annoying occasionally. Colin is also easy to manipulate. You see, Colin is really into conspiracies. Really, really, into the stuff and always eager to share his passion with anyone who will listen. In doing so he sometimes can’t differentiate between someone just being nice and someone discreetly mocking him, proving to be somewhat naïve.

Backstory: Colin’s a townie, born and raised in Preferton. It’s all he’s ever known which may be partly why he’s the way he is. Preferton’s not a particularly large place and even less exciting sometimes. Much like the island itself Colin’s early life lacked much excitement itself and was relatively normal. In order to entertain himself Colin would usually accompany his father on his occasional fishing trips and hikes. It was this and the fact that the Kocsh’s lived in the more rural part of the island, that led to his affinity for fishing.

One evening when Colin and his father were out for late-night fishing, Colin would leave to relive himself and being bashful about his privacy ventured deep into the woods. Finished he began to make his way back knowing clearly where to go. Soon enough the minutes would seem to grow longer, and longer, until he had to admit he was lost. In his desperate attempt to find his way back he managed to come to a clearing. It was here when it happened. According to Colin he took a few moments to admire the night sky. Eventually becoming entranced by a meteor shower he described a phenomenon in which hefeelt the wind rush past him as if the meteors were mere meters away from him. Colin doesn’t know how he ended up back at his house that night although his father says he found colin passed out in somewhere in the woods and carried him back home, luckily unharmed.

Colin insists that what he experienced was an attempt by aliens to contact him. For a while, most thought this was just a phase. Soon enough though it no longer became just that night but dreams in which Colin claims he saw extraterrestrial beings. This went on for weeks, then months, and eventually never went away. Much to the Kocsh’s chagrin their son had become a full-blown conspiracy theorist. Despite their attempts at therapy, this eventually became the new normal. In school Colin would eventually become isolated and labeled as a weirdo though sparred any sort of bullying. Following financial troubles, the Kocsh’s would sell their rural home and settle for an apartment downtown. Here Colin’s mother would end up working for one of the local restaurants while his father would take work on mainland Maine. As for Colin, he’ll be attending in his first year of high school though his eyes are always to the skies. For in his mind he knows the truth is out there.

I'm not the OP but I'm pretty sure we're still open and accepting.

One word about your powers, though. The mechanics of this RP allow you to have more abilities than what you have listed. Each character can have 1 level of an ability at level 1.

We're now at level 2 of the abilities, which means characters can have up to 3 levels of ability, spread out between 2-3 powers. That means, you could have 3 low level abilities that hardly do anything at level 1, or one ability at level 2 that's pretty powerful (but not monstrously so), and another that is somewhat wimpy at level 1.

At level 3, characters can have up to 6 levels of ability, spread out between 2-6 powers. You can have 2 monstrously awesome powers at level 3. Or you can have 6 wimpy powers at level 1. Or 3 pretty decent powers at level 2 each.

All that means is, your character can have more abilities.

Thanks for the heads up Talchyon!

I've edited my app with an additional power. Tried to keep it in line with the whole plant theme. Assuming I'm accepted should I wait until the rest of the groups decided to stay or go?

Character Description
    Name: Alice Hawthorn
    Gender: Female
    Age: 17
    Appearance:
(Feel free to describe with text or put pictures in here. If you are using a picture, personally, I find it easier to picture a character who is shown in photo/realistic drawing though I'm not going to get funny about anything else. Unless it is your personal stick-man art. I might draw the line at that.)
Short dark brown hair, gray-blue eyes, navy blue hoodie, white skirt, black leggings, black and white striped scarf, small dark blue beanie

Strengths and Weaknesses Sorry, I can't really think of any strengths that wouldn't count as a skill. Weaknesses: Can't take criticism, doesn't know what to say a lot
Skills: (Is there anything you are significantly better at than most other people? These are not super-powers... good at trigonometry would go here.) Can understand other peoples emotions well
Weaknesses: (Is there anything your character is really rubbish at? Not essential you put anything in, but can be fun) Socializing
Phase One Power: (Please indicate what they are, what level they are at and -specifically- what you imagine them doing) Becoming part animal, for example: Having cat ears, a cat tail, whiskers, and fur.
Phase Two Powers: (Please indicate what they are, what level they are at and -specifically- what you imagine them doing) Becoming a full animal, but can't understand real animals
Phase Three Powers: (Please indicate what they are, what level they are at and -specifically- what you imagine them doing) Can understand real animals(wether she's in an animal form or not), and can (rarely) become mythological animals

Background:
Personality: Shy, very awkward, sometimes says unexpected things, avoids crowds when possible
Backstory:(How did you come to be here?) She recently moved to the town(sorry, already forgot its name) with her family, and she's been too shy to try to make friends

So, is this a work in progress? Because it definitely doesn't look like it's finished from my position. It can be improved to make it work, and I think I speak for the modteam that we try not to judge about writing ability. We are willing to help if you are willing to ask for it and accept it. However, what do you think the fact that you wrote "sorry, already forgot its [Prefeton's] name" in the application implies to someone in my position as co-op?

So, is this a work in progress? Because it definitely doesn't look like it's finished from my position. It can be improved to make it work, and I think I speak for the modteam that we try not to judge about writing ability. We are willing to help if you are willing to ask for it and accept it. However, what do you think the fact that you wrote "sorry, already forgot its [Prefeton's] name" in the application implies to someone in my position as co-op?

You know what, you don't have to accept it. I'm not a very experienced writer, so I don't know much about what a 'finished bio' should look like. Also, I can forget things easily sometimes, unless I literally repeat it in my head.

Perhaps that was harsh of me, but there are several applications that here that can serve as references that aren't a mile long. As I said, we are willing to work with you here. From my perspective, not seeing anything other than post count (which does say you are a relatively new account), but an effort like that isn't what I'd personally consider a good faith one. To once again reiterate the key point of the reply, we are willing to work with you, but that needs a degree of good faith on your end.

Yeah, sorry if I was being oversensitive. I've never roleplayed on NationStates before, so I don't have much experience on how detailed to make bios. I've only ever roleplayed on this website called Scratch, and the bios there are pretty simple, so I guess I thought my bio was good enough.
