Definitely interested. I'm not too well versed in Strike Witches lore at all, is it somewhat like Kancolle as far as the girl/weapon mix goes? Any particular important things to know about how they work?

A few questions app wise as well. What is/what is the difference between handheld and 'striker' weaponry? What counts as a hereditary power, and what are good baselines for rank? Thanks again!

As for your first question, not really. Most Witches in the original Strike Witches anime are based off of a real life ace in WWII, though they are not direct personifications (meaning fictional characters are fair game), and they are not personifications of their aircraft, either.

Important things to know is that a Striker Unit draws from magical power within the witch sorta like a battery, in order to drive a 'Magic Engine' which provides the magical blue thrust to propel the witch forth at immense speed, plus amplify the witch's magic abilities, physical strength and shield strength, but at the cost to their long-term magical abilities over a lifetime. The constant drawing of magical energy causes the Witches' familiar (animal tail and ears/wings) to come out constantly while the strikers are active.

Your third question? Well, handheld weaponry refers to the small/notsosmall arms your witch will be carrying on their person, such as a Liberion Witch bringing in an M16A2, or a Karlslandian bringing in a G36. Weaponry for Witches will be unlimited, mainly due to the fact that you all will have personal armory rooms to keep weapons and ammo present. You may also include any sidearms your character may carry around casually, like how Alice keeps a VP9 inside a holster in her uniform shirt.

--Also, remember. You CAN always apply as ground personnel. We probably could use more of them at the moment.

Rank? Uh, for that just go off of modern-day country equivalents of ranks, and take your pick between officers below O-6 and enlisted below E-7. However, if you're going Fusoan (Japanese), consult with this.

No pants, got it.

As for ranks, I was figuring as most pilots are officers, what ranks are appropriate. O-1 or O-2 is probably what I'd go as, but I wanted to know to avoid any leadership overlaps or overreaches. If enlisted is preferred, no problem.

Appreciate the help! I'll likely be apping for a Super Hornet.

Essentially, yeah. Though, probably not as long-ranged as the full size ones, but significantly further than what would usually be possible with these small munitions, that is to say perhaps 4/5ths the range.

Her wing was among the first to respond to the invasion in New York, being stationed almost directly off of the coast when the invasion started. Her squadron were sortied almost nearly around the clock for days on end. Over time, their attrition mounted, and in early 2021, WFA-6 was withdrawn from their forward positions as New York was finally abandoned. When the news of the defeat in Hispania reached Liberion, Sarah was selected as one of the liason pilots to transfer to the 511th.

Apologies, but mind taking a read again of the history summary? There was no Gulf War, only a Balkan War of Independence from 2009-2015. And the 511th didn't exist until 2021-- it was formed after the Neuroi came back, but only when the disaster at Burgos happened. Most of the fighting on Liberion's front would of course as noted in the history, be against the Neuroi Vessel near the now-abandoned New York, or in the Amazon Rainforest.

Also, powers don't exactly work like that, they're less dependent on your technology and equipment, more like a signature magical spell or ability. And, Striker training doesn't really take that long. She could've been operating by 14, and be far younger with more years of magic to look forward to.

Personality: Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov has an extremely calm and quiet demeanor. Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov is extremely good at following orders and tends not to ask questions, though she lacks initiative in combat situations. While she is calm under pressure and able to hold her own even when outnumbered, she is bad at weighing odds and knowing when to retreat. It is believed these are all a result of her young age and rough childhood as she has shown to be quite intelligent. Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov is highly gifted with computers and electronics, able to build highly complex micro drones. Background: Junior Lieutenant Alexandra Kuznetsov was arrested at the age of 13 for hacking into military computer systems. She was identified as a Witch with an ability that allowed her to manipulate electricity in a manner that let her wirelessly interface with computer systems. It was discovered under investigation that Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov’s parents had been using their daughters ability to stage several robberies and hacking’s and they were promptly arrested. Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov was taken under military custody and enrolled in witch training courses and officer school. Though troublesome at first Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov was eventually broken into military life where she performed well. Following graduation Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov was assigned to the 10th Guards Bomber Witch Regiment. Around the same time as the Neuroi invasion Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov unveiled a striker deploy able micro drone as part of a personal project. This caught the interest of higher ups who asked her to combat test. Junior Lieutenant Kuznetsov and her drones showed promise in combat and she was transferred to the 511th, along with Junior Lieutenant Fedchenko, despite her general lack of combat experience as part of a political move.

Hereditary Power: Electrical manipulation of computers

Preferred Striker-borne Weaponry: Deployable micro-drones modeled after the S-70 Okhotnik. Each drone features folding wings allowing for attachment of two drones per wing with an additional drone on each center-line. Each drone can be fitted with either two missiles in an internal bay, or a stripped down AK feeding from a drum mag.

Personality: Lt. Colonel Penkov is a rather interesting individual. On the surface he appears extremely calm, casual, and laid back. He is known for above average consumption of food and regularly singing and humming. These habits extend to his on duty performance as well. One has to wonder how someone as laid back as him reached the rank of Lt. Colonel in the first place. It is worth mentioning, however, that Lt. Colonel Penkov has shown a level of seriousness and competence in his duties. He has never missed physical training and in combat commands his crew with speed and precision. He has shown phenomenal problem solving skills that have allowed combat personnel to achieve missions with minimal losses. Since the start of the Neuroi War Lt. Colonel Penkov has routinely requested assignment to missions involving witches. In every mission Penkov was assigned to fatal casualties have been at a minimum.

Background: Lt. Colonel Penkov joined the Orussian Airforce instead of accepting draft into the army. He applied, and was accepted, for AWACS aircrew where he has remained since. In 2008 he married his wife and former Witch Yaroslava Ivanov. In 2009 they had their first daughter Taisiya and their second daughter Ludmilla in 2010. Months before the invasion Taisiya was identified as witch strong enough to perform combat operations. At the outset of invasion Lt. Colonel Penkov attempted to request deferral for his daughters drafting but failed. Taisiya was drafted, trained, and sent off to combat on the Kongo front. Weeks after her arrival Sergeant Taisiya was killed in action. It was cited that faulty intelligence and poor mission management were to blame for the loss of witches in action. Since then Lt. Colonel Penkov has been adamant about assignment to missions involving Witches. With the re-establishment of the Joint Fighter Wings it was deemed appropriate to assign Lt. Colonel Penkov and his crew to the 511th JFW.

The reference to the Gulf didn't mean the Gulf War, was only using it as a very loose turn for what the Gulf of Mexico-ish area was. But no worries, I'm fine with changing that. I also misread the current year as 2020, not 2021. I'll fix that as well.

You could do what I did for my own modern Witches setting and have them just be shrunk by Real Ass Magic to fit on Striker Units, the once they get a certain distance away, bzort up to full size.

Colonel Penkov has shown a level of seriousness and competence in his duties. He has never missed physical training and in combat commands his crew with speed and precision. He has shown phenomenal problem solving skills that have allowed combat personnel to achieve missions with minimal losses. Since the start of the Neuroi War Lt. Colonel Penkov has routinely requested assignment to missions involving witches. In every mission Penkov was assigned to fatal casualties have been at a minimum.

Background: Lt. Colonel Penkov joined the Orussian Airforce instead of accepting draft into the army. He applied, and was accepted, for AWACS aircrew where he has remained since. In 2008 he married his wife and former Witch Yaroslava Ivanov. In 2009 they had their first daughter Taisiya and their second daughter Ludmilla in 2010. Months before the invasion Taisiya was identified as witch strong enough to perform combat operations. At the outset of invasion Lt. Colonel Penkov attempted to request deferral for his daughters drafting but failed. Taisiya was drafted, trained, and sent off to combat on the Kongo front. The best way to think of an ability is like a super power. It can be something as simple as super strength or healing magic to something more complex like Yuki's force multiplication. If you are really struggling try and think of a power that compliments the character's personality.

Also if you have a Discord we have a server for this RP. People seem to be far more active on that then here.

Until the recent events that is. Eager to jump into the fray when the Neuroi is involved, Philippa flies headfirst into to conflict, all within any protocols or ROE set by her commanding officer. When outside of her Striker, Philippa is a rather amicable if a bit shy when meeting new people, with some exception to those with ties to Venezia and Karlsland with mild suspicion. After warming up to someone, Philippa will more or less act the same but is more willing to being open to them. She also problems with being called short or being underestimated for being so, doing so will cause the otherwise timid witch to flip out on them.

Background: Born from a long line of witches, Philippa was born in Southern Liberion, her family priding themselves in her great grandmother's accomplishments as witch in the Second Neuroi War. Due to this, she grew adoring the old generation of witches and the tales of their heroic struggles against a seemingly unstoppable foe, desiring to be hailed a war heroine like them. But with the Neuroi threat gone seemingly for good, Philippa could only dream about such things. Instead a separate door opened for her several months after she turned 10, right in the middle of the Balkan War for independence, being approached by Liberion Air Force recruiters and offering her something similar. Not taking much convincing and jumping at the chance, Philippa enlisted, despite her being at least two years too young to be a combat witch.

Not taking too long to finish basic training, they wasted no time in getting Philippa shipped and transferred to an air base in Grecia. Shortly after she became busy performing CAS missions, hitting targets that mostly composed of vehicle convoys and logistics outposts. Soon she would be told to perform CAS against infantry units. Her powers allowing for a high density of fire to be rained from above, the Liberion witch excelled in such roles and left many targets devastated. Then there was the occasional air to air combat she dealt with, most commonly against helicopters and a much more separate combat against enemy jets. In one of these engagements, she would be one of the few, if not the first witch, to score a supersonic gun kill in an engagement. By the time 2011 hit and the conflict had ended, Philippa had gone on at least 220 sorties, at the same amassing 51 confirmed vehicle kills, 12 confirmed helicopter kills, and 4 confirmed jet kills. The larger objective accomplished, Philippa would turn 12 when she was suddenly detained to be prosecuted under the UCMJ. Confused and scared, it took nearly a year before the charges against her were dropped, instead being given a slap on the wrist due to how useful she was in the Balkans.

Having reached the age of 13 when she was sent home, was sent to an airbase in the center of Liberion, ready to be deployed at a moments notice. Yet for years that wouldn’t come, forcing her to instead to train for an opponent she wishes to face, at the same time going through the ranks. By 17 years old, Philippa has been promoted to a Sergeant and placed in charge of a reservist squad. It wouldn’t be till three years later, Philippa would get a shot once again, as her and reservist squad would be deployed overseas to combat the resurfaced neuroi. Much to her chagrin, the combat would amount to nothing more than AMRAAMs at distant neuroi, leaving her frustrated to no avail. Following the near destruction of General Morales’ frontline force, only motivated her to fight in a more active role and volunteered to be placed in a JFW upon their reactivation. With enough shouting, would land her in the 511th Joint Fighter Wing.

Striker Unit: F-4E Phantom Block 53

Hereditary Power: Explosive Projectile Application: Philipa is able to make any projectile (whether it be hand thrown or from a weapon that shoots projectiles) have explosive properties, making any bullet she fire have the destructive capability of at least a 20mm high explosive round. At the strongest application, she can make the projectiles as effective to 30mm high explosive cannon fire. In exchange for this power though, it destroys the chance for any long-range shooting due to the projectile always exploding exactly 400 meters away from her location.

Preferred Striker-borne Weaponry: XM301 20mm cannon, AGM-65 Mavericks, GBU-12, GBU-15, AIM-7 Sparrows, AIM-9 Sidewinders, and AIM-120 AMRAAMs.

I personally don't see anything objectionable, other then the 20mm Gunpods and striker mounted Vulcan. Strikers are not big enough to mount those.

Edit: The gunpod thing would be viable, but probably more like the one from fanon. You'll need to get finale thoughts from Osk though.

Personality: Elise is known perfectionist due to her magic, often spending hours looking over her striker and weapon to make sure everythings in order and is known for being a rules stickler. When she's not in the hanger one can often find her drawing or painting, diving into the arts as an escape from the nearly unbearable pressure of living up to both the Luftwaffe's expectations and her family legacy. She's shy an very reserved, rarely leaving her sisters side. In combat Elise has been described as "robotic", operating in a calm trance that sits at odds with the wild maneuvers of her flying.

Background: Elise could be argued to have both the best and worst luck in the world. Great granddaughter of the legendary Karlsland ace whose family had a long distinguished military career (both of Elise's parents being high ranking Luftwaffe officers), it came to no surprise when her magical talent revealed itself at the age of ten. After a brief medical scare relating to her new powers, Elise was sent to the training academy at Bayern.

At the academy Elise had difficulties harnessing her magic at first, initially overwhelmed by the amount of information it granted her even with her high IQ. But after learning to channel and filter the information, she quickly became one of the academies rising stars. Despite objections by her parents, she was graduated early and attached to the 51st Immelmann squadron operating against Neroi in the Pacific. However, after the disaster in Hispania had further tarnished a Luftwaffe image already ruined by flying in support of Venezia during the Balkan war, the decision was made to tranfer her over to the newly formed 511 JSF wing in hopes that she would make a name for herself and put the Luftwaffe back on the map as a premier air force.

Striker Unit: Tornado IDS

Hereditary Power: Artists Eye. Elise see's the world through a heads up display with readings ranging from distance and airspeed to color shades and sound decibels. Unfortunately this power comes with quite a few drawbacks, most notable that Elise can't turn it off and has to actively think about what she's seeing or the shear amount of information will overwhelm her brain and cause severe medical issues.

After finishing her training, Johanna was assigned to her sister as her personal crew chief.

Rumors abound over why she had forfeited her career, but the truth was that it a personal request of her parents. They told her that Elise needed someone to look out for her that wasn't worried about politics or national pride, and after helping Elise recover from the discovery of her powers Johanna had all but jumped at the responsibility. She's been Elise's personal minder ever since, following her first to the Pacific and then to Hispania.

Hereditary Power: Healing- Johanna’s has a very focused healing ability that while lacking the energy to heal large areas like most witches, makes up for it with the ability to small scale delicate work.

Appearance: Slightly taller than Elise with short jet black hair and grey eyes. Wears jeans and a T-shirt under a military field jacket normally.

Striker Unit: Tornado IDS

Hereditary Power: Artists Eye. Elise see's the world through a heads up display with readings ranging from distance and airspeed to color shades and sound decibels. Unfortunately this power comes with quite a few drawbacks, most notable that Elise can't turn it off and has to actively think about what she's seeing or the shear amount of information will overwhelm her brain and cause severe medical issues.

After taking a six month leave of absence to help take care of her sister while she recovered, Johanna resigned her commission and transferred to Striker Maintenance as a sergeant. After finishing her training, Johanna was assigned to her sister as her personal crew chief.

Rumors abound over why she had forfeited her career, but the truth was that it a personal request of her parents. They told her that Elise needed someone to look out for her that wasn't worried about politics or national pride, and after helping Elise recover from the discovery of her powers Johanna had all but jumped at the responsibility. She's been Elise's personal minder ever since, following her first to the Pacific and then to Hispania.

Poland, I don't see anything wrong with your Elise, though I do believe that passive abilities do not trigger familiar transformation. Though, and I'm not sure Reg is definitely gonna enforce this if I'm right about it, but I do believe that hereditary powers are passed down along the generations. Though I might be wrong about that and Reg might not care even if I am.

For Johanna if you could specify some of the details of healing that would be fantastic. Healing in SW is common, but also has many different ways in which it manifests itself.

As far as Elise goes, I’m not actually sure magic talents are hereditary given no siblings shown in the series seem to share talents, even Erica and her identical twin Ursala. As for always having some of her familiar showing, yes her talents passive like Sakamoto or Minna’s. But while theirs are minor annoyances at worst, Elise’s is an extremely powerful one that will cook her brain if she’s not careful. Elise used her familiar as a sort of control to bleed of some of the excess magic.
