Is the idea of playing a descendant of a pre-colonial native Polynesian King no bueno, by the way? Because you didn't comment on that either way.

And in terms of my Western outsider, I might either make a British PM to act from afar or a British Ambassador to act up close. I dunno. Longing for a British character lately. Been so Yankee lately. XD

Well, many voters will be Catholics. This is a former Spanish country, after all.

For history-

I’m thinking it is founded in the mid 1980s as an agglomeration of left wing movements

Perhaps doing extremely well in one or two elections thereafter

Currently a minor party

(I know this app is very flawed and this can definitely be considered a first draft, though it did entertain me to see the Le Pen similarity in how Diego ended up interacting with his father)

Appearance:

Character Country of Origin: Eblanca
Character Country of Residence: Eblanca
Character Party Affiliation (creating one is allowed): Truth and Community Party of Eblanca (P.V.C.)
Main Strengths: Firebrand populist, able to rouse crowds strongly; popular with the Polynesian language community; period of military service reinforces patriotic credentials; well-connected with former Principalía families of wealth and influence.
Main Weaknesses: Where his party have entered government, they’ve generally been quite poor at government; conversely not all too popular with defenders of Spanish language primacy; can be criticised for being out of touch with modern liberalism; seen as on the fringe of Eblancan politics.
Biography:
Diego was born in 1971 to the Kahurangi family, who - in the times before the Spanish conquest of Eblanca in the early 16th century - were the dominant tribal leaders. When the Spanish arrived, they were inducted into the Principalía, where local pre-colonial nobility were assimilated into the colonial political apparatus in order to help the Spaniards maintain their rule.

The Kahurangi first became politically active in 1902, after the transfer of sovereignty from Spain to Japan. Under Meiji rule, they were slightly suppressed but not extensively. It would be in the Japanese Taisho period that they’d be more vocal, taking advantage of the weakness of Taisho democracy to be forthright in their support both for Eblancan independence and a return to the rule of traditional chieftains from before the colonial period. When the Showa period began in Japan, the increasingly militarist and authoritarian colonial rule led to the Kahurangi family moving to Hawai’i, were they were well received by some locals who admired their defence of Polynesian heritage.

After the Second World War, the Kahurangi returned to Eblanca and became politically active, founding the Truth and Community Party (P.V.C.) under the leadership of Miguel “Mikaela” Kahurangi, who presented himself as both a valid candidate for an Eblancan monarch and as the Party President of the P.V.C. Miguel would be Diego’s grandfather, maintaining his pretendership until 1967, where his father Felipe “Pilipo” Kahurangi took up the reins upon the death of the elder. Under Felipe, the P.V.C. took a distinct right wing turn, hoping to appeal to the U.S. for support against left-wing elements, though that help never came.

Diego’s childhood was relatively unremarkable, beyond being confirmed into the Catholic Church and faith, receiving a creditable schooling at private institutions, and having it impressed into him how important it was to reclaim his family’s patrimony by his family. Upon the age of 18, he was sent overseas to study, doing a bachelor’s degree at the London School of Economics in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He made many connections in society circles there, on account of his interesting royal pretences, though this did make him - at times - personally abrasive.

Returning to Eblanca, he committed himself to a military career over the next 12 years, though he made sure to have no shortage of visibility in that role. He wanted to make sure that Eblancans were aware he had metaphorically ‘bled’ for them, despite seeing no real combat in that time. He would leave the military in 2004, when he would work with insiders in the P.V.C. to pressure his father to practically retire. He entered politics full-throatedly, taking up a Senatorial seat in a by-election (caused as a consequence of his father stepping down on account of his ‘age’), and whilst Felipe Kahurangi would remain Party President on account of being the head of the family, it would be Diego who maintained the real power, shifting away from some traditional conservative policy planks to more populist ones, managing to generate a small expansion in the P.V.C.’s share of the vote.

Come 2011, Felipe would die, and after arranging a degree of political theatre in securing a cathedral service for his funeral, well in the public eye, Diego would take up the unchallenged post of Party President. In this role, he continued to expunge the P.V.C. of those more loyal to his father’s way of doing things, and set about bringing the party closer to 21st century populism.

Character Position/Role/Job: Army Officer
Appearance:

Character Country of Origin: Eblanca
Character Country of Residence: Eblanca
Character Party Affiliation (creating one is allowed): Conservative-Nationalist Party of Eblanca
Main Strengths: Physical strength, combat training, intellect
Main Weaknesses: Islamophobe, homophobe, uncaring and Machiavellian, views poor people as "lazy"
Biography: Duke was born in 1990 to a middle-class family in Montgri. All his younger years he knew he wanted to be a soldier. He was frequently in fist fights, but his small stature led to him not winning them very often. He scored mediocre throughout his early school years, but a few belt whippings from his father forced him to pick up his act in High School. When he was 17 he enlisted in the Eblancan army, serving two tours in Afghanistan. Duke's hatred for Muslims started to manifest during this time as he witnessed several friends die in IED attacks. At age 21, when he was at the rank of Corporal, he managed to secure an appointment at the United States Military Academy, or West Point through their international cadet program.

He graduated as a Second Lieutenant in the Eblancan Army in 2011, ready to lead men in conflicts in the Middle East, but was disappointed to be placed behind a desk as a supply officer back home. In this time he met his wife, Maria who was a school teacher. He was stationed in East Carina where he came invested in politics for the first time. He supported former General Escarana-Burns in his run for Senate. He strongly liked the General's for his former service and his ruthless personality. However, having politicians he likes or not didn't change the fact that he couldn't stand his boring post.

His time came in 2014, when he finally was allowed to apply for a different post. however, things didn't exactly go as planned. In order to take command of an infantry company as he wished, it would have to be a National Guard company. He took charge of a Guard company stationed right outside Montgri, his home. Despite it being his childhood home, Duke has little love for the city. He views it as a Left-wing hellhole full of lazy troublemakers. he has been stationed there for five years and is appalled at the election of the EPF mayor's election. He feels all it will bring is more rowdy troublemakers on the streets.
Other Info: Staunch Catholic, very much against the EPF. Wishes to maintain the old, conservative ways of Eblanca.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Sanabel
Character Name: Sed Amar Rohit
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 76
Character Height: 5’11”
Character Weight: 145 lbs
Character Position/Role/Job: Senator from Santo Domingo de los Cruces Constituency (rural southeast), Chairman of the Popular Front
Appearance:
Image
Character Country of Origin: Eblanca
Character Country of Residence: Eblanca
Character Party Affiliation: Popular Front
Main Strengths: Devoted and active base of support, experienced opposition leader, principled, uncorrupt, skilled politician
Main Weaknesses: Ideological to a fault, perceived as radical, subversive past, tendency towards inflammatory comments, aging
Biography:
Sed Amar Rohit was born in 1943 in a guerrilla camp outside of the village of Tapochau, in the forests of southern Eblanca. The island was under Japanese control, and his parents were fighting with a band of fighters within the Liberation Army of Eblanca, an anti-Japanese, anti-colonial, nationalist group. Sed spent his formative years in this environment, his mother teaching him to read and write while his father destroyed supply lines and picked off soldiers of first the Japanese then the American occupying forces. He routinely faced hunger and disease during his youth, but became radicalized nonetheless. First against imperialism, then against capitalism. In 1953, when Rohit was almost 10 years old, the American occupation ended and the Liberation Army disbanded. His parents took him to the small city of Purosa where his father took a job with a steel mill and his mother became a schoolteacher.

Due to malnourishment during his youth, Sed was somewhat sickly. But thanks to a normal routine, attending a proper school, and through working class machismo he recovered and began to assert himself physically and intellectually. As a student, he helped his father to organize within his factory, and he led protests in the early 60s against the arrival of Japanese and American industry to the island.

In 1963, having earned a technical degree in mechanical engineering, Sed went to work on a farm outside of Purosa working on agricultural equipment like tractors and newly imported combines. He was still becoming radicalized, building off of the worldview he inherited from his parents. Reading the works of Mao Zedong encouraged him to spend time as a worker and with the peasantry, the people who could bring down the neoliberal imperial system that benefited only a lucky few in Eblanca.

In 1965, Sed participated in a 2 year long labour exchange in the Soviet Union. He spent his time on a farm near Slutsk in Byelorussia. He learned some Russian on the trip, but also solidified his political views after witnessing an alternative path of development that his country could take. There, he fell in love with a woman from Eblanca that was also on the exchange, and married her while in the USSR.

After returning home, he was invited by the Eblancese Communist Party to write about his experiences in the party newspaper, La Voz. His article was a success, and he ended up writing a weekly column first on his experiences in the USSR, then about his political views more broadly. He advocated for a Fabian, radical democratic approach, against more radical elements within the party that urged an armed revolution. Concurrently, he became a full time party activist and labour organizer. in 1970 he was investigated by police for connections to the bombing of a municipal building in the capital. The charges were dropped, and many in the community took his side, viewing it as an effort to repress dissenting opinions. In 1971 he was arrested for conspiracy to murder the prime minister, this time spending a month in prison before his name could be cleared.

In 1973, he was named editor of La Voz by the party committee. As editor, he would continue to argue for his comparatively moderate approach, while also attempting to persuade members of the public. Certain segments of the population, especially students found him to be remarkably convincing. The newspaper’s circulation increased slightly under his direction. In 1980, he was added to the party slate for senate candidates in the rural south. He eked out a victory, with the communist party barely making the threshold of winning a seat in the constituency. He went to the legislature with the party’s small but dedicated group of senators. On his first day in office he was barred from taking his seat in the chamber due to his refusal to wear a tie.

During his first term in office, the First Conference of Laguna was held, during the winter of 1983. At the conference, an electoral pact was created between the Communist Party, a social democratic party, Christian socialists, Green activists, indigenous rights activists to share the same slate of candidates for senate elections. This was done to help the a Communist Party to shed its violent past, and to help the other groups enhance their electoral standing by uniting the left wing opposition under a single banner.

In the next election, it worked. The party picked up more seats. There was some squabbling, however, between senators of different backgrounds. So, in 1985, the Second Conference of Laguna was held. The Popular Front was transformed into a more proper party, with a chairman elected, a single manifesto drafted, and loyalty pledges signed. The left was formally united in Eblanca. Sed was an integral part of this, serving as the primary delegate of the Communist Party and chairman of the committee tasked with drafting a manifesto for half of the conference.

In the election of 1990, the Popular Front did exceedingly well, winning around 1/3 of the vote nationally due to a scandal that embroiled the governing parties. This led to the Popular Front serving as the main opposition party in the senate. During this time Sed rose to become Deputy Leader of the Opposition, a position from which he critiqued the mainstream parties and the capitalist system that would inevitably do more harm than good. By the 1995 election, the image of the mainstream parties had been rehabilitated and the sands shifted against the Popular Front. They were relegated back to a more minor party.

They continued to hold this position until 2005, when opposition to the war in Iraq and Afghanistan touched a nerve in the electorate, and the Popular Front presidential candidate made it into the second round of voting and only lost by around 5 percentage points. Sed served as a primary campaign organizer during this time, along with his two sons.

After the 2010 senate elections, the longtime leader of the Popular Front stepped down, allowing for a contested leadership contest. As a party stalwart, and someone with a lot of following among labour, the youth, and farmers, Sed won. He made the case that he could combine both principles with electability, and successfully carry the party’s message and manifesto to a broader swath of the electorate. This is especially true as voters respect Sed for his honesty, integrity, and the fact that his political views are authentic and have not changed since his adolescence.

The party seems to be on the up and up again. Despite his age, Sed is intent on becoming prime minister and/or seeing a Popular Front President. Thanks to the growing appeal of green politics and growing opposition to the neoliberal status quo internationally, this seems to be within reach for the party.

Other Info: Prominent anti-American voice, atheist, firmly within the old radical left of the party

Character Name: Diego “Iakopa” Kahurangi
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 48
Character Height: 5’10”
Character Weight: 211lbs
Character Position/Role/Job: Senator (2011-), Party President of the P.V.C. (2011-), Party General Secretary of the P.V.C. (2004-2011), Army Major (2001-2004), Army Captain (1997-2001) Army Lieutenant (1995-1997), Army Officer Cadet (1992-1995).

I don't know how such a party could have ever entered government and that is not mentioned in the bio, but otherwise I'm willing to accept it. Also, what constituency does he hold?

I have read and accept the rules of the roleplay: Sanabel

NS Nation Name:
Character Name: Carlo Rigoberto Saiden Estrada
Character Gender: M
Character Age: 60
Character Height: 6’0”
Character Weight: 176lbs
Character Position/Role/Job:
Appearance: (Photo preferred, not required)

Character Country of Origin: Eblanca
Character Country of Residence: Eblanca
Character Party Affiliation: New Liberal Coalition
Main Strengths: Strong Economic Record, many accomplishments, rich
Main Weaknesses: Big deficit, lost coalition, born with silver spoon, lame duck
Biography: (Minimum 2-3 paragraphs)

Carlos was born into a wealth Eblancan family in 1959. He was a child of intellect and privilege, enjoying the best schools and tutors money could buy. He was accepted at Harvard in 1977 to study economics and business management, graduating with honors in 81.

Returning home he worked for his families shipping company, turning a profit and making connections in the nations business community. Despite the successes of his family he was struck by the consistent crime and poverty in the city of Laguna (second largest city in the country) where his company was based. He became increasingly frustrated and politically involved until he ran for mayor in 1990.

He won a narrow victory as a member of the Liberal Coalition and served for two terms. During his time as mayor he took inspiration from New York City, implementing broken windows policing, anti-corruption measures and an expansive pro-business agenda. Crime went down and the economy went up. Carlo left the office and returned to his business highly popular with the people of Laguna, in 1998.

He remained working with the family business until 2002 when the Governor of Candon province appointed him to fulfill a vacancy in the Senate. He came just in time for the Liberal Coalition to reinvent itself into the New Liberal Coalition, which was much more focused on economic issues and a somewhat more populist message. Carlo found himself riding the wave into election in his own right in '05, inspired by the groundswell of support he began to rise through the ranks of his party, winning another election in '10 before running for President in '12.

Running on a platform of economic liberalization and more moderate social policies, Carlo took 57% of the vote. Carlo followed the lead of nations like India and China and began liberalizing the economy and freeing up trade. The highest corporate tax rate became 18% and regulation was slashed. The economy boomed, and unemployment fell, goods were cheaper and in '16 Carlo was re-elected with 58% of the vote.

But it was soon after that a massive crack emerged in the New Liberal Coalition. Unexpectedly a bill to legalize gay marriage passed through the Senate, the Catholic Church had long been a strong supporter of the Liberal Coalition but after its reformation, social issues had taken more and more of a back seat. Carlo signed the legalization into law, and the walls came tumbling down. Carlo had always been a moderate socially, even allowing abortion to be legal before the end of the first trimester, this bill was the last straw and the social conservatives deserted the coalition.

The NLC went from 58% of the Senate to 40% of the Parliament, many blamed Carlo who has since become somewhat of a lame duck in a divided Senate... Still Carlo's economic legacy is undeniable, with the country still growing at a steady rate. Unable to run for a third term Carlo now looks to the future.
