Character Country of Origin: Eblanca (Japanese descent)

Main Strengths:
Fiscal conservatives' hero: his reputation as a 'budget hawk' has made him popular among fiscal conservatives.
Fiery orator: even political opponents agree his speeches are worth hearing.
Main Weaknesses:
Japanese descent: considering Eblanca's history as a Japanese colony, Okamura's descent can prove at time to be a disadvantage and populist/nationalist media do exploit it to make attacks on him.
Elitism: his studies abroad and his work at Chase Bank and McKinsey leave him open to attacks of being part of the elite.
Biography:
Fujita Okamura was born in 1977 to an upper middle class Eblancan Japanese family. When Eblanca became a Japanese colony, some Japanese decided to move there and make the island their new home. After the defeat of Japan in WWII, many Japanese families fled to the country to return back to their motherland but others remained in the island. Okamura's family was among those Japanese families that decided to stay in the island.
He managed to get a scholarship that allowed him to attend Harvard University and earn a bachelor's degree in social studies, receiving the Hoopes and Tocqueville prizes. He then attended Stanford University, earning a Ford Dorsey Master's in International Policy. For the next two years, he attended Harvard Business School where he earned an MBA (Master Business Administration). In total, nine years of studies. In 2004, he began working as a financial analyst at the corporate finance division of Chase Bank in London. Four years later, in 2008, he was employed by the consultancy McKinsey & Company in London, focusing primarily on the telecommunications and financial services industries. He worked there for two years, returning in 2010 in Eblanca.
Back in his native island, he became involved with local politics, becoming a member of the NLC. Okamura was attracted to the NLC message of economic liberalism and became an NLC senatorial candidate for the 2010 elections. The NLC won a clear victory and Okamura was among the elected Senators. He supported the NLCs efforts to liberalize the economy and deregulate the market but became increasingly critical of the growing deficit. Getting a reputation as a 'budget hawk', he grilled his own party and government on more than a few occasions. His outspoken social liberal views also caused conflict with some of the social conservatives of the NLC. His disagreements with the Estrada administration eventually led him to become an independent.
For the 2015 elections, he agreed to become a candidate for the small center-right Libertarian Party (LP). Despite the NLCs victory in the elections, Okamura managed to retain his seat, the only LP candidate to get elected. As Senator, he continued his fiery criticisms of the government over the deficit. Although Okamura was becoming more popular, the LP became embroiled in internal conflict as anarcho-capitalist, minarchist and classical liberal factions fought for domination of the party. Okamura belonged to the moderate classical liberal wing and became embroiled in the internal battle.
In 2018, he decided to defect to newly created Social Democratic Party of his personal friend Professor José Mariano Gerardo, despite some initial concerns over joining party that was to his left. Along with him came more than a few LP politicians and activists belonging to the classical liberal faction. Although he was to the right of the party's line, José believed that Okamura could help the SDP make inroads with centrist NLC voters and alleviate fears that an SDP government would be financially reckless. Okamura's influence on the SDP program can be seen in the promises to evaluate civil servants, digitize the public sector, cut back useless regulations & programs and to have a balanced budget. In Janurary 1st 2020, it was announced that Okamura would become Vice-President of the SDP.
His political views place him in the liberal center. He is concerned primarily with balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility. Although he generally advocates eliminating the deficit through spending cuts, he is supportive of moderate raises in corporate taxation. He is also supportive of increased, but still moderate, welfare spending as long as it does not cause new deficit. He is a strong supporter of free trade and economic globalization. On social issues, he is very much a liberal; he is staunch defender of freedom of speech, LGTB rights, pro-choice and pro-marijuana legalization. On climate change, he changed his views from a denier to a supporter of market-based solutions to combat climate change: some of his political opponents accuse him of flip-flopping on this front in order to fit in with his new party.

Keep going time. The Burns campaign is still building up. Around the end of February is when the war chest will really be released, as activist armies have been assembled and advertisements honed and prepared.

Granluras wrote:This shouldn’t have slowed/died. It has a good concept and is as viable as any other political roleplay. We also sort of publicized the worldbuilding process, allowing people to add to the lore of Eblanca and develop it as a fictional country. Improper administration is what I’m blaming, since the inclusion of more active mods, special events, and advertisement could’ve, and imo still can, do wonders.
