China believes the Japanese are heading towards Hong Kong and as a result is trying to prevent such a thing from happening. I know that isn't gonna happen, but China can't predict the course of Japanese naval movements so frighteningly close to home.

Also, China is in the UN Security Council and I doubt the latter would happen due to MAD.

China won't sink the Americans thats for sure they don't want world war 3 either, and the japanese won't get anything like that as long as they don't sail closer to China or try to shoot down Chinese aircraft.
