It will get really awkward when Antony shows up.

I will post later today. If I post before Anarcho-Syndicalist I will react to Nadia-Marie's arrival and have a doorstep meet-and-greet while we are waiting to be let in.

I re-read your post, and if I may say one thing, Joseph isn't hiding, he is standing between the staircase and the coach not doing anything to try to hide

How long would it take for a vampire to master two forms for shapeshifting? I know we've got among the current cast, at least one vampire around 300 years of age that has mastered two forms, while the others I've seen have at best only one form as far as I remember. Also, more of a side note, but what happens to clothes when they shapeshift? I know some settings just have them magically vanish and reappear for convenience's sake. Just curious.

A little bird told me, "Go, Go! Socialise! Talk to those fine people! And then, KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! Plunge your knife into their throats when they ain't lookin', and then burn 'em to the ground!"
Well that's silly, isn't it?

Convinience sake for clothes. As for forms, it depends on how much time the vampire has dedicated to it. One who has dedicated decades of their life to studying their chosen form and getting to know it intricately, likely would be able to master it faster. A casual studier of forms likely would not have mastered more than one at the recommended max age, if they have even completely mastered one. Besides blood magic, Shapeshifting requires the most active work to learn.

If a vampire has a missing eye, would their shapeshifted form also reflect that?

Also, I almost forgot about it, but when you mentioned before that vampires outside during daytime start to smoke under the sun when clothes are covering their flesh, how how much of a barrier between them and sunlight would they need to be unaffected? Would an umbrella help? Would the materials of that umbrella make any difference? Does clouds blocking sunlight help? Presumably whatever carriages are made out of is enough to protect them from sunlight. Say, if they shapeshift into some aquatic creature, how far underwater would they have to go to avoid being burned?

With them rapidly bursting into flame when directly exposed to sunlight, I guess it would be more or less equivalent to what happens to vampires in Interview with a Vampire and Underworld. Though rather than "turning to ashes" as you described it, in Underworld there's still a charred corpse, and in Interview with a Vampire, they basically look like the people who died at Pompeii, with only bones being left, and the ashes resembling their flesh crumbling upon being touched.

Yes

Basically consider a Vampires quote unquote "life force" as fuse when sunlight hits them. If they are out in the direct sun at all, be it in the shade, or covered with clothes, that fuse starts to tick, albeit slower if your in the dark and such. Getting pitch darkness, like a coffin or a completely covered carraige, halts that fuse. When your fuse runs out, which would be almost instantly for a nude vampire but within say a 30 seconds to a few minutes for a vampire in shade or covered, they spontaneously combust and disintegrate. The smoke can be seen as this life force burning off.

Yay the doors are open. :p

I have been meaning to say that I have made a small change to my character's backstory. In my endless biography two praetors feature. One, a nameless guy who served as Geneviève's mentor before she conspired to have him murdered with the other praetor given the generic Roman name Marcus Valerius Maximus. I have changed these people's names to Naevius Sutorius Macro and Locusta the Gaul respectively.

What language does the Society use for its government? I assume Latin considering how the Society appear to have been linked to the Roman Republic/Empire when it was founded and how most of the very senior old vampires presumably speaks it.

Latin would be used for the senate yes, but for Quaestors and Governors it would be whatever language the feel like using. Praetors would probably use Latin for communication as well.

I don't think that is necessary.

Since my character is talking to Britannia I will let them get a chance to post before I do, but if there are still people out in the cold by my next post I will have Geneviève walk out and get them so don't worry about it. :p
